The photographer extraordinaire, @joits, took either all or most of these great shots for us at CHUCKfest3 and is sharing them with the world. So, ENJOY. And if you were there, thanks for your donations to @OperationSmile.
Loverly Photos! Is Yvonne crying in some of the ones near the end? Awwww. Such a wonderful cast and crew who wear their emotions on their collective sleeves. Thank you so much for giving us 91 episodes of awesomeness!
I had read that people had made a fan tribute video for her and she cried when she watched it and then they applauded. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that was what happened.
Great photos and it looked cast, crew and fans all had a great time. Emotional I'm sure, as shooting the last episode will be.
Josh holding a "*heart* Zachary" teddy bear is just wrong.
Also, while Yvonne looks pretty adorable holding that service dog, he looks like he's thinking, "Dude, let me down. I'm on the job here; you're embarrassing me."
Kudos to the cast and everyone who contributed their time/money to a worthy cause.
Thanks for the photos Magnus and congratulations to you and all other who made ChuckFest possible So glad to see Linda Hamilton and Mekenna Melvin with the rest of the cast
Oh I just found out that she got emotional after watching an 8 and a half minute fan tribute video. It is on youtube and basically it is fans all of the world saying thank you. Nielsen is just so crap...I know, I know, I know...it is all we have, but when people from Australia, Japan, South Korea, England, Spain, Italy, Poland...etc show this kind of love and how far its spread...it kind of sucks that a crappy system says that not many people watch the show. The probably just watch it illegally sadly. Man I love this show, thank you so much.
Jesse, is Nielsen the problem? I mean, having seen some data from other sources, CHUCK just hasn't registered with the masses for whatever reason. So, it is a niche show. A wonderful niche show, but niche show nonetheless.
I actually disagree. I think we have no idea at how many Chuck fans their are out their. Even thought what you saying maybe true Razorback and most of the time it is I still think the Nelson system is outdated and flawed. But that a whole other discussion.
The name of the system is NIELSEN, not Nelson, or Nielson, and it is constantly being updated. I don't think the Nielsen system is as flawed as the opinions about it by those who are ignorant about how it is used.
I constantly hear people talk about how flawed the system is, or how outdated the system is... but they base this on what? The opinion of actors, show runners, and other fans who don't like the numbers their show receives.
How is that any way to judge the value of scientific data? It doesn't matter how many countries have CHUCK fans. LOTS OF SHOWS have fans all over the world. Hell, most shows... you know, since they are virtually all sold overseas.
So what makes CHUCK unique? Within the big picture? Virtually nothing. But in the hearts of its fans, everything. And that is all that matters. You don't need to diminish the validity of Nielsen to know what you love. And you also don't need to inflate the "true" value of the thing you love to validate why you love it.
Just love it. Stop trying so hard to make it more important than it is.
Looking back at the pilot episode ratings Chuck started at 10 million and is now down to 3 million. What a truly amazing feat to get to 91 episodes. I like that Fedak now in his interviews accepts the end is nigh. He say's that he talked to Yvonne about how emotional it is that they will not be back in the new year to shoot and things are coming to a close so quickly. That is good to hear that they are gracefully accepting their fate and are enjoying every last moment together. What a fantastic, fantastic show..I am going to miss it like crazy. Fedak, thank you brother...I will always love you and your cast and will love you even more if you put more sexy times between Chuck and Sarah and Ellie and Awesome in this season. Thank you...sniff, sniff.
I am not at liberty to say more about it. Just that it was definitely not true that it needed 10 million viewers or some ridiculous rating to get more episodes.
And when I said what you say I said, it was months before I learned differently. And I posted an article about it when I heard differently.
All I am saying is that the public information didn't match with what was happening behind the scenes.
I don't know how the cast is taking it... but I do know how people on set are taking it and right now it is kind of like graduation. You are prepared for it to end but you know you are going to miss it. There will probably be a lot of crying on the last day of shooting for everyone involved. And since some people will finish their last shot on a different day than someone else, it will be a pretty emotional week all around.
I hope Adam Baldwin gets some quality roles after Chuck.
Hopefully he'll get a chance to play in a couple of good movies again and then maybe he can get a big role on a great television show that is seen by the masses.
It was not meant to help Chuck anyway: at this moment I seriously doubt that even a miracle could. But as many people here talk about Nielsen and how to improve it, mostly with no knowledge at all (I am first who is deeply ignorant about it) I suggested it, if someone might be interested. Maybe GF was the best place for it, but it was somehow in topic...
"I suspect that Zach and maybe Yvonne will try to become big film stars now that Chuck is almost over."
Isn't that what every single actor in Hollywood is trying to do?
"They must be happy it's ending and is not getting an extenstion."
Last two seasons have not done anything good for their careers, so i guess it's fair to say they are happy to be able to pursue other projects without restrictions.
The thing is, a new Nielsen measuring method applies to ALL shows. In the end, no matter how much they measure, I doubt it will change the percentages much. Sure, the networks will be able to collect more money, but it will just shift the threshold for cancellation. So, if CHUCK went from a 1.0 to a 2.0 suddenly, a show doing a 3.0 would probably go to a 6.0, or something like that. CHUCK would still get cancelled.
The biggest misconception about the Nielsen ratings is that people think it's supposed to add up people who watch the show. It's not.
It is designed to be a "currency" by which an advertiser who purchases an ad running on NBC has an estimate for how many people may have seen the ad. It doesn't add in Hulu or NBC.com or illegal downloads because THOSE HAVE DIFFERENT ADS or none at all. They get measured seperately as a result. The Nielsen rating is a surrogate for ad revenue.
(Note: Nielsen has the capability of adding in people who watch online IF the ads are the same as run on-air. Turner networks run the same ads online as on-air. Therefore, those viewers get counted even though it's not a lot of people.)
It doesn't count other countries because the ads weren't meant for other countries. All countries have their own ratings system.
If someone at WB wanted to go to all the different measurements and add them up, they could. But, it doesn't mean anything if it doesn't translate to revenue.
Didn't Fedak say he wanted Adam Baldwin for the role of Casey? That + NBC's programming issues worked in Adam's favor. Straight to dvd films and Breitbart blogging are in his future.
I understand that everyone is sad myself included about this being Chuck last season and it not getting more than 13 episodes. But come on why is everyone so unhappy about it. It was bound to happen. Like I said least we are not getting taken off the air without a proper ending. At least I hope so.
"But, it doesn't mean anything if it doesn't translate to revenue."
And that is something that I am often surprised to hear people who work in the industry don't seem to understand. Raging against Nielsen is like raging against "big government." The problem is the individuals utilizing the system, not the system.
Well I just don't understand WHY the hardcore fans are not watching at all anymore.. this ratings are really horrible by any standards. I find this season is still watchable, and dare I say it even more interesting than last season. Sad times. Oh well, this show will always be special for me.
Well then if their not going to pull it. Then I not going to worry. I actually glad it not getting more episodes. It time for the swan song. I mean really Chuck has kind of ended like 3 times to me already.
As long as the writers feel like they can totally end it on the perfect note, I am cool with it ending now or later. But if they were always going to end it on some "OMG SARAH HAS THE INTERSECT" type moment... then it was always going to end badly, no matter how many episodes it got.
"How do you know the hardcore fans aren't watching?"
You got a point. I just thought the hardcore, more loyal fans were the ones left at the end of season 4.. I guess those that left weren't as loyal as I thought. It's really sad that a really mediocre show like Smallville had better ratings on fridays than Chuck, which in my opinion is a much better show. Maybe is the payoff of seeing Clark in the supersuit that made it so.. looks like they wasted their time, lol.
"I just thought the hardcore, more loyal fans were the ones left at the end of season 4"
As MediaSavant and I have pointed out many times, the misconception is that hardcore fans make up the majority of viewers. This just isn't true. A large portion of weekly viewers are stragglers.
My estimate for "hardcore" is 125,000 viewers. Everyone else doesn't watch every week and doesn't watch the entire episodes. How many DVD's sold again?
However, I had a cool moment in Joshua Tree, CA yesterday. I was wearing my Jeffster shirt because stupidly I packed execting warmer weather in California than was the case. Its the only longsleeved shirt I had and I was going into the national park.
I went into a "hole in the wall" restaurant and someone came up to me recognizing the shirt and said how cool it was. One of the 125,000, I guess.
Chuckfest3 was an incredibly cool event. I've been part of the fandoms of several shows over the years and I've never experienced anything as special or as well-run. Kudos to everyone involved.
"Zac told our table at Chuckfest he wants to go to NY and do some Broadway. I don't know how set that plan is, though"
Not surprised at all before Chuck got picked up he was suppose to do a theater production in NY but he canceled that when Chuck got the green light hopefully Zac will get some good movie offers after Chuck and he will cancel theater again and stay in the main stream : )
Film work can be "iffy". People spent months talking about how great it was for Yvonne to be in Killer Elite. And then it actually came out. And disappeared rather quickly from the box office.
The guy who got Zac's role in Thor is now in a TV show: Once Upon a Time.
Loverly Photos! Is Yvonne crying in some of the ones near the end? Awwww. Such a wonderful cast and crew who wear their emotions on their collective sleeves. Thank you so much for giving us 91 episodes of awesomeness!

Linda Hamilton will play in season 5???
ReplyDeletePlease anyone got a video???
BTW I'm so jealous guys...
ReplyDeleteI wish I was there... you're so lucky:))
Thanks for the photos Magnus and congratulations to you and all other who made ChuckFest possible

Thanks for posting the lovely pictures.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joits for the pics, and thanks to all the people at Chuckfest: the lucky few representing the rest of us, the not-so-many... :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful collection of photos.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to everyone for being part of such a wonderful event.

ReplyDeleteIt was my understanding that it was 13 and out unless it got huge ratings which on Friday is hard to do.
ReplyDeleteThat's basically what the president of NBC said last May.
None of NBC's scripted shows from the last few years have gotten a huge mass audience so Chuck is not alone.
I will miss this show very much but it's quite an achievement to get 91 episodes when it could've been cancelled after 35.
"It was my understanding that it was 13 and out unless it got huge ratings which on Friday is hard to do.
ReplyDeleteThat's basically what the president of NBC said last May."
That's nice... it wasn't true.
oh really.
ReplyDeleteWell, that was still my understanding since that's what everyone seemed to be saying.
Even you were saying before the start of the season that there was almost no chance of getting more episodes.
Let me guess NBC would have ordered 6 more episodes if Chuck had gotten a 1.3 these past two weeks.
I am not at liberty to say more about it. Just that it was definitely not true that it needed 10 million viewers or some ridiculous rating to get more episodes.
ReplyDeleteAnd when I said what you say I said, it was months before I learned differently. And I posted an article about it when I heard differently.
Well, then I apologize for misremembering your exact statements.
ReplyDeleteIt is disappointing if all Chuck needed to get some more episodes was a 1.3 or some similar number.
If they needed a 2.0 or 1.8 or something like that i'm not sure that was realistic to expect this time around.
Do you know how the cast is taking it?
I suspect that Zach and maybe Yvonne will try to become big film stars now that Chuck is almost over.
They must be happy it's ending and is not getting an extenstion.

I understand that and I also respect that you can't talk about it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe someday you can say what you know.
Get Zac and Yvonne over to COMMUNITY for a guest stint !!!
ReplyDeleteEnough said .
I hope Adam Baldwin gets some quality roles after Chuck.
ReplyDeleteHopefully he'll get a chance to play in a couple of good movies again and then maybe he can get a big role on a great television show that is seen by the masses.
Interesting article about Nielsen and the web:
