CHUCK Versus the Bearded Bandit - 5.02 Episode Discussion

This is the 80th episode of the series! Here is what WB is saying about it:

Logline
Carmichael Industries faces competition by a rival security firm led by the tough Gertrude Verbanski (CARRIE-ANNE MOSS — The Matrix). JEFF FAHEY, JUSTIN HARTLEY also guest

Synopsis
As the team takes on a missing persons case, Chuck and company struggle to establish themselves as Carmichael Industries in the face of a rival security firm led by the tough and efficient Gertrude Verbanski (recurring guest star CARRIE-ANNE MOSS — The Matrix). Meanwhile, Morgan continues to adjust to the Intersect, while Chuck adjusts to being Morgan’s handler. Also, the Buy More finds an unlikely spokesperson to help motivate business. JEFF FAHEY (Lost, Grindhouse) and JUSTIN HARTLEY (Smallville) also guest star.

So what do you expect? What did you think? What do you rate it (once you have seen it, of course)?

UPDATE: Here is what I had to say about it over at GeekFurious.com.

  1. I expect more Morgan the Bearded Wonder focus...ehh.

  2. I expect to see very good stuff from Carrie Anne Moss and Adam Baldwin
As for bad stuff i am sure Morgan is going to provide enough material

  3. Hehehe... I was just messing around and didn't even try to make it look seamless. But it made me laugh to see Morgan inserted into the picture so I left it like that. I usually do a better job but... shrug. It made me happy.

  5. I just saw a preview clip and am now confused about something. Did Casey say that Gertrude was a former KGB agent, or that they were just one of the agencies she had worked for? If she is Russian, where is her accent? Then again, Ilsa was a French agent who spoke with an American accent.

  6. I have no idea where to post this to get some attention, but wouldn't it be cool if Chuck&Sarah were the winners?

    http://uk.eonline.com/news/watch_with_kristin/ultimate_tv_character_crush_2011_vote/273373

They are both in round three, but losing at the moment. Spread the word!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Maybe they give some language lessons at the KGB academy so that their agents would not be so obvious to spot.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Chuck is actually just winning whereas Sarah is losing and losing by a few percent. What is the world coming to where fans think lily from himym is hotter than Sarah? We may just find out that fans actually may find chuck the hot one out of the two .....hehehe...how times have changed, just a few years ago Sarah was way out of his league....now it is the other way round.

  9. I am about to ban The Gimp for life...

  10. It is not my fault that fans are voting insanely. I voted for Sarah and chuck.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Do they get something if they win this poll, like the tv guide cover thing? Do they guest on E or something? Or is this just a random useless poll?

    ReplyDelete
  12. For your ridiculous non-sequitur that Zac leading means he's now hotter than Yvonne. They are separate votes! Each is going up against totally different fandoms. If you really buy into the horsepoop you are dishing out, then you HAVE TO BE BANNED FOR LIFE!!!!

Oh and Zac is losing now. I guess he is ugly as sin if we go by your logic bombs.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Sue, they get nothing. It is pointless to vote for anything like this. But people do it anyway, like it means something.

But then people are still claiming credit for "saving CHUCK" to get this season... even though I have not spoken to anyone in position of knowledge over at NBC or WB who even knows what they are claiming to have done to save the show.

So... facts have never stopped fans from thinking their actions important.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I suppose it just let's the actors know how hot the fans think they are....or in some cases not. Based on interviews the actors do find it flattering but know it's part of the game. I mean when Zach was on Rachael Ray he was very humble about being in the top 25 sexiest guys in the world....or he is just a sweet and modest guy by nature. These poles exist to draw traffic to their sites.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ok, thanks. I won't even bother with the link. I don't understand the appeal of polls where you don't win anything.

    ReplyDelete
  16. 50-50 could go either way.....come on the geek/nerd!

    ReplyDelete
  17. These polls are meaningless since people just spam vote anyway. So, what does it mean? That five people set up voting bots and that somehow makes you the hottest? Or most liked? Or your show is the best show ever?!

Polls are ALWAYS used to draw people in because people love voting. Hell, that is the only reason I ever have them. It draws in those who wouldn't have otherwise read the site.

    Simple.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I should mention, I have no idea when the next podcast will come out. Everyone is at Chuckfest3 this weekend... unless I find someone to cover.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Heh, that's actually a fascinating tidbit of human nature some people need their opinion to be heard as loudly and frequently as possible. No matter how mundane or useless the subject.

    ReplyDelete
  20. People are lonely and insecure. Reality sets in around 30 that life is not going to go the way you wanted. And for some, even earlier. So, they try to validate their lives by the things they like, by having others like them too.

And if others won't like them, they are going to try to force them to like, or at least notice them. And that is what poll spam voting is about. Seeking validation. Which is why the lowest rated shows often win.

  21. I wonder tonight's episode but I don't expect too much...

  22. When the client asked to find something for him I thought he would ask for them to find the island, lol. Morgan is an idiot.

    ReplyDelete
  23. lol at one of the guest stars names. wesley schnider? like the kick ass soccer player?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Chuck, why? why! why! why did you stop the gunman? do you not know that if they find prints on the gun you will be exposed?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ok Morgan has just dissed Sarah, I hate him. No one dissess Chuck's much better half!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I have to say, I'm disliking Morgan more and more. He's being a word that's probably not allowed on this site. Part of the reason that Chuck was so great as the intersect is because of his humility - Morgan's putting people at risk, including his best friend, by being so...you know.

    ReplyDelete
  27. why do they keep teasing that someone is going to shoot morgan, just do it already.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sepinwall rarely ever, ever craps on Chuck, he goes out of his way to explain all the things that goes against it (budget, seasonal orders, etc) but I can see why after watching two episodes even he thought they maybe should not have come back, this episode is bombing and it is because of Morgan. Where is the show I love? The best part of the episode was Sarah climbing the cliff, it only had the main three players...enough said.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Groan, enough Morgan!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. ehhh not the best episode of chuck ever. the morgan intersect storyline is rubbish.

But even so Wesley Sneijder FTW!!! lol. one of the best soccer players of our generation.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I loved the episode. The only thing that didn't work for me was the first time Morgan fights inside Karl's place. That looked ridiculous.

    Otherwise... loooooved it.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Best moments: Sarah doing a morning run with Chuck and reminding him of his worthness (very sweet and she is so happy, I mean compared to season 1, so wow on that front). Secondly I liked the cool action sequence of the rock climb and finally I like Carie Anne Moss a lot, so cool. I really like the buymore subplot with Awesome. The rest of the episode was meh (I know! I mean Morgan).

    ReplyDelete
  33. Like I will mention in my review, I actually liked Morgan a lot more in this episode. Even his fighting (outside of the one time).

    ReplyDelete
  34. I see by your tweet that you liked the episode, and I don't know why, but I am not surprised. :)
I think that this season shall be evaluated more "story-wise" than "character-wise" (maybe I just invented a word or two here...), and for me, this is a good thing!
But I have to say, I think that maybe they could have made the whole "evil Morgan" thing in a little more subtle way...

    ReplyDelete
  35. I thought this episode was funny as heck.

I love Casey's new lady and I love the way he acts around her.

Awesome always comes through. He should have done the commercial shirtless though, they would have had a line out the door.

Sarah and Casey in the car was hilarious. Her reaction to his hooking up killed me.

Finally I dug Morgan's change. At first it seemed just like general whining about staying in the car, kind of like Chuck. But gradually you could see the change, I thought Josh played that very well.

This episode was definitely better than last weeks. And judging by the promo I might get a little bit of a Chuck/Morgan fight.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ryan Magee gives Chuck a "C"...worrysome.

    ReplyDelete
  37. And after reading his review I have to agree with his gripes. Fedak, come on brother get it together and quickly. The best parts of your show have always been the best parts of your show....Casey, Sarah and Chuck. I just wished you never lost sight of that. arghhhh

    ReplyDelete
  38. Loved the episode. To me, this drives the nail home that Chuck was truly special to handle the Intersect as well as he did and that the writers finally remembered to really point that out, especially given last season with those two agents on Casey's new 'team'.

But yeah.. the morning jog was beyond cute and fun (and holy crap, a kiss, even though it was cute! They made contact!) -- I liked the bit early on with Sarah and the beautiful Carrie-Ann Moss. It was hilarious basically any time she talked about Casey, or was in the same room with him. I love how she half-tripped as she left the house there at the end.. was a nice touch.

Awesome being brought in for the Buy More was fantastic, and awesome usage of the wind machine! That was..awesome (see what I did there? Yeah. I went there.) Needs some more Sarah in the Buy More with Jeffster/Big Mike for added hilarity. OH. And even Big Mike admits he's sick of Jeffster. That was great.

The only negatives I had were a couple of the fight scenes being.. eh. I think it's slowly coming together though because it wasn't *all* bad this time.

Oh, oh.. forgot a bit. Can't forget the Casey and Sarah in the car bit.. having that conversation at 100mph? Oh lord, poor Sarah!

Overall, I actually liked this episode.. definitely more than last week. I like how the intersect is slowly (or in this case.. quickly) changing Morgan's personality, basically funneling out any of the 'old' Morgan (all the geekology), and creating this new personality.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I liked the episode.

    Big Mike was funny.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Good build-up episode, waiting next week for conclusion. People on the internets on the other hand seem to be either stupid or ignorant for not seeing that it's the intersect that's beeing annoying and arrogant, not Morgan.

And it's pretty obvious that the arrogant intersect plotline will be resolved in one or two episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think people are just desperate for Chuck and Sarah and Casey adventures and are getting a little impatient with spending 3 or more of the final 13 on a wasted storyline that includes a character that is at best just a sidekick. This show has always been at best about the 3 leads and I suppose the expectation was for the show to go for broke and just resolve their storylines properly. Sarah gets one episode for her backstory this season and Morgan gets half a season? yeah I see where they are coming from since everyone loves sarah like the most of any character on the show, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I miss Shaw, I would rather have him back hitting on Sarah then some of this stuff with morgan.

    ReplyDelete
  43. My review is up.

Stop whining you pains in the ass.

    ReplyDelete
  44. should I post here ? or the GeekFurious ? :)

I admitted , I was Harsh on the last week episode. But this one was pure Awesome. literally LOL.
And I start to like the idea of Morgan as the Intersect, may be becasue there was no Sarah and Morgan dacne scene , HAHAHA.
But no, realy, it was good episode. I still have some problem, with the idea, I'm not realy sure how they make it, that Chuck is special, becasue, if realy Morgan's Intersect has a problem, then I dont know how, they gonna make it, that Chuck is special, cause, it is just a problem that He not have to face it in the past.
    But whatever.

Even Chuck himself was way mre better than last week, and He has also some great fight move, wich is gladly welcome for me. And I have no problem with He's behavior at all, I understood him.

And to be honest I'm glad that they have other drama, than Chuck and Sarah have a relationship problem, wich eventually can't be avoided unfortunatly :(. , but I'm cool now :). This episode is actualy was more like I hoped once Chuck and Sarah get together, they are there they are okey, they are sweet but the drama is not with them, even the season 4 they have to much focus on their problem, every episode or almost every to be fair :) have some mini crysis in their relationship, so it is refreshing to see this, if only they can give them more Hot and Sexy scene, I will not have any bad word anymore :).

  45. If you want to curse up a storm while writing your responses, post there. Otherwise, post here. :)

  46. I'm not getting the Morgan hate at all. Even without the preview for next week, it's being clearly telegraphed that something is wrong with the intersect or at least with how it works in him. Just because that didn't pay off immediately doesn't mean it won't.

Anyway, a couple of things I really liked. I've been wondering if Chuck is making any attempt to train now that he has no intersect. That last scene with Sarah and how he handled himself against the bad guys indicate that he clearly is. This is a big plus. Second, I'm continuing to love the way Chuck and Sarah interact now. Sarah is even more unguarded with him than she was last season. Finally, Sarah rock climbing. Enough said on the last.

  47. I'm with you 100 percent. I LOVED this episode. The whole adventure just made me smile and I remembered why I use to look forward to Monday nights so much.

  48. Are you still going to do a podcast for the episode?

    ReplyDelete
  49. "Are you still going to do a podcast for the episode?"

Yes but I don't know when. There was talk of doing it tonight but I doubt that is happening. So, maybe tomorrow or Sunday.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I don't know if it's me or not but going on the whole batman, batman thing that morgan was saying in the show I kind of see it as Chuck is Batman and Morgan is Robin turning into Nightwing trying to break away from the group thing. I would like to see Morgan stay away from the group for at least 2 episodes and then maybe there is a situation where he has to choose between 2 things like I think it was in Batman Forever where Batman had to choose between Robin and Dr. Chase Meridian. Anyways I can see the glitches coming with not knowing who Luke Skywalker is and not knowing the Indy reference which I thought was awesome and the whole movie marathon thing not caring thing. I think it's kind of cool that Morgan is with Trinity aka Carrie-Anne Moss.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Don't get the hate either. This episode was awesome and hilarious!
Loved the Casey and Verbanski interactions and his reactions to her and vice versa!!
Casey & Sarah conversation at 100mph.OMG!
Chuck and Sarah run talk/interactions, too cute.
Casey playing dumb/hunter - was channeling Jayne again - hilarious!
    Morgan re-enacting Indy was great!
Awesome in the BuyMore. And many more
I also think you can tell the intersect was affecting Morgan. Can't wait for the resolution!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I love this episode...
    -The bush was great idea...
    -Muffin joke was great...
-Big Mike was great...I have to say he is newlywed as chuck and sarah but I think his sex life better than them...
and chuck and sarah went their honeymoon?? just mentioned 4x24 that's it (to jeff and lester)
-I love chuck as a person... He is a good friend... His behavior to Morgan was thougtful...
-Morgan as an intersect, I mean...we have to deal with it... I don't like it and I will not like it but I like the show...
-Gertrude Verbanski was great I liked her. There was a Reagan picture on her table...
-Sarah and Casey were great in the car... Casey was great...
-Sarah's "gas for lotus" was good...
-Devon was good... Buymore crew as an ad star were great and funny...
-And finally I have to say New married couple never act each other like that... if they didn't wear a ring I could say they didn't get married... I didn't find convincing!!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. At least we won't have to ever worry about getting more than 13 episodes this season. CHUCK got a 0.8. It once could get that in repeats.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Come on! Where are all the monday's Chuck fans? If we lost them because of Morgan intersect story this is stupid!

    ReplyDelete
  55. To be honest even if we where to score in the rating what we got on Monday nights i still dont think we would of got more than 13 eps. I sorry their a reason why NBC brought it to Friday nights. I not mad at NBC either. Their giving Chuck a proper ending. I know some people bitch about how NBC had treated Chuck but really NBC has treated it good. Five seasons it a good run for a show that struggles in the rating. If it was Fox it would of been cancelled in its first season.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Nah, we know we weren't getting a Final 13, but lol. A 0.8.. being beat out by what it was beat out by.. is just silly and very, very bad. HIMYM re-runs double that easy. :/

    ReplyDelete
  57. Friday 8pm during High School football season...college party nights...family nights out...hoping that viewership picks up soon. I've accepted the fact that Chuck is going to end it's run after 13. I have not been disappointed with the show...I'm glad that I've had it for 5 seasons! I've enjoyed this site...thanks for your dedication in keeping us Nerd Herders informed!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Cause Grimm is new and fresh and also Morgan getting the intersect. Sorry even i was turned off by it. I watch Chuck till the end but i was not all that excited about this season to be honest. Morgan with the intersect while has it funny moments still turns off a lot of people. Also the move to Friday nights does not help. I DVR Chuck now.

    ReplyDelete
  59. So, Magnus, excuses aside, why are the ratings in freefall? Your scores for the last two episodes seem to indicate you still like the show. So quality or at least entertainment value are not the issue. What is?

From my perspective, I'm happy to see the show go out his season, hopefully on a high. I'm asking more out of curiosity than anything.

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  60. As I often say, quality has little to do with why shows gain or lose interest. It's mostly about fads. CHUCK lost the interest of the masses a long time ago... and then it lost the interest of the geeky curious. And now they lost the interest of those who used to tune in every week.

I have stopped watching shows I liked before simply because I missed an episode and didn't feel like "finding" the episode to make it up. I am sure people do similar things like that all time.

But the DVD/BD sales should have told us that this was going to happen. They dropped by 41% from last year. Why wouldn't the ratings too?

    ReplyDelete
  61. It's the final season of a show that spent 4 seasons on the bubble, and it's airing on Fridays, what did you guys expect? :)

There was never any hope of more episodes, even if Chuck miraculously maintained its Monday ratings. There is a very very slim hope of NBC pulling it since they don't really have much on their slate so ... enjoy the final episodes and think back fondly to Seasons 1 and 2 when Chuck was a cool show. And thank WB & NBC for even considering making this deal for Seasons 4 and 5, rationally the show could have very easily ended with Shaw dominating the final episode.

    ReplyDelete
  62. And of course when this happens, people like to blame it on story stuff. You know like.. oh it was Shaw... oh it was Chuck and Sarah getting together... oh it was this.. or that... not getting engaged quickly enough... or they got married... and now Morgan.

I think it is more about Chuck and Sarah getting married than anything else. Hell, once people thought they had gotten engaged, the ratings went to poop and haven't recovered since.

Never put your romantic leads together! NEVER DO IT!

    ReplyDelete
  63. "There was never any hope of more episodes, even if Chuck miraculously maintained its Monday ratings."

    Wrong. Very wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I agree, keeping the leads apart keeps people interested in what may happen. The moment they're together forever it's like "Oh", and people change the channel.

The only time it makes sense is at the end of the series when you know it's over like JAG.

    ReplyDelete
  65. "Never put your romantic leads together! NEVER DO IT! "

You were around in Season 3, cast you mind back to the fandrama and the if they don't put Chuck and Sarah together yesterday I will quit the show silliness.

Sometimes the fans are bad for a show ;)

    ReplyDelete
  66. What would say the odds are of Chuck being moved to Saturdays or even pulled altogether?

    ReplyDelete
  67. You know while i don't like the overexposure of Morgan, i actually liked the last episode. So while Morgan was getting on my nerves i thought that everything else...and i mean everything was great.

I actually liked Chuck the most i had in a while, those few Chuck/Sarah scenes were great, Verbanski with Sarah and Casey was very good as well.

    Siemon

    ReplyDelete
  68. I actually said Chuck might get an 0.8 this week.

    I'm 2 for 2.

The ratings shouldn't be this low.

    ReplyDelete
  69. What did the dvr ratings from last week say? Have people switched to dvr viewing or abandoned the show completely?

    ReplyDelete
  70. I used to be absolutely addicted to Chuck, especially in seasons 1 and 2. But since then, my enthusiasm has waned. I think it has to do with them drifting away from the saving the world for 10.50 and hour. I don't enjoy the show nearly as much with Chuck and Sarah being equals. They brought Chuck up and took Sarah down over the last two seasons and I think the show has lost something.
I'll still watch the remainder of the season but now I can just DVR it and watch in my own time. Couldn't do that in season 1 or 2.

    Lee

    ReplyDelete
  71. If you ask 100 people the same question you'll get 100 different answers.

There's not one definitive answer as to why there's such low viewership this season.

In a way i'm surprised the ratings are this low.

If Fringe in it's 4th season can get a 1.3 on Fridays then Chuck should be able to do the same.

    ReplyDelete
  72. My feeling ( and probably wrong ) is that with it being announced as the final season that some fans don't feel then need to watch it live . They can catch it on their own terms when they have time . The Fringe fans are more rabid now that they think that they can get a fifth season . My odds for that would be %95 NO where their current ratings are at . WB won't be giving the show on the cheap the way they did this year to reach syndication requirements .

Friday nights this year are actually pretty exciting for tv . Chuck, Grimm , Fringe , Supernatural and even Blue Bloods isn't that bad once in a while .

    ReplyDelete
  73. Except FRINGE split up their romantic leads. :)

    ReplyDelete
  74. Well, you may be on to something there.

Maybe Chuck and Sarah shouldn't of gotten engaged or married last season.

I've never watched Fringe is that a good show?

I've been looking for a good sci fi show to watch that i haven't seen before.

    ReplyDelete
  75. If they had kept the will they won't they aspect of CS's relationship I would have quit long ago because it would have ruined the natural progression of story. They got Booth and Brennan together with a baby no less and I doubt the ratings will be as bad as Chuck's.

I think with CS, you have a young spy couple and yet you have them kissing like their 5. If they want to blame getting CS together as a drop in ratings it's too simplistic. If anything to fix that all they could do is bring in some more sexy times and they could still do angst, but just the married kind (not the lets break them up and bring in third parties kind). I hate when shows getting a couple together is used as an excuse. I know most shows have that, but most shows also get their couple together in the final years of the show, where quality overall is dropping and fans have already started to lose interest because it's not "fresh" anymore.

Right now I'm enjoying the season well enough butI hate Morgan as the intersect (just don't care) and wish the show would focus back more on Chuc, Sarh and Casey.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Yeah but Boith/Brennan got together in Season 7. The Chuck/Sarah story was effectively over midway through Season 3, and don't fool yourself, the core of the show was the Chuck/Sarah story, and from halfway through season 3 it was just a linear progression to them getting married. Sure some people stuck around to see them get married but for many people the "purpose" of show was pretty much done in Paris. The rest was sprinkling, some of it good some of it not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Weren't additional episodes a long shot anyway.

I was under the impression that NBC didn't want to pay for more episodes so even if Chuck had comeback to 5 million viewers with a l.5 it wouldn't have been enough.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Your impressions and reality are not matching up.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I think of the actual story elements, putting Chuck and Sarah together did have the biggest negative impact on viewers. I also think they wouldn't have done it so soon if they had a guaranteed 5 years. However, I disagree that it was the wrong thing to do at that point in the story. What's good for the viewership is not necessarily good for the narrative.

If the alternative had been 7-10 years of unending will-they-won't-they nonsense, I'm glad Chuck is going out when it is and the way it is. Stick it on at 5 am Sunday to finish out; I'll just Tivo it and enjoy the conclusion of one of my favorite shows of all time.

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  80. So i'm wrong and 5 million viewers with a 1.5 would have been enough.

    Interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I can't say any more about it... just that your impression about what was really going on behind the scenes is way off.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I disagree, I believe that the "natural progression" of the story they decided to go with after "guy's, I know Kung Fu" is what has caused the show's decline.
I was involved with numerous web sites in season one and they were all vibrant and bustling with activity. And the age of the participants were from young to middle aged.
I would say that this site is clearly the leader in activity now..and I doubt that it's hits would compare to those of season 1. That's not a statement about this site but rather, the state of viewership of Chuck. I would also guess that the average age of viewship is much younger than it was in season 1. (just a guess)
I guess what I'm saying is that the shows direction has, in my opinion caused the downturn in viewership.

    Lee

    ReplyDelete
  83. "I can't say any more about it... just that your impression about what was really going on behind the scenes is way off."

Can we guess? Here's mine: NBC seems to be well and truly . If Chuck had done even marginally well, they would have added a back half to fill out what is probably a mid-season pile of steaming .

    Close?

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  84. Ah...I used angle brackets above with the words "expletive deleted". I guess this blog software just assumed that was bad html or something.

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  85. Maybe I will tell you about it when the season is over.

    ReplyDelete
  86. 91 episodes for a show that could have been cancelled after 13 is a great achievement, why are fans now concerned about what is causing the show to fail? I mean complaining about Chuck and Sarah being the reason...they put them together 32 episodes ago! lol. The show has basically in the end lived half of its life with them together. I mean theoretically they chose to be together in American Hero...so that makes about 45 episodes together versus 46 not...that is good stuff. Heck that is probably better than any other show in the history of television that did the WT/WT.

    ReplyDelete
  87. If that's true that really disappoints me.

  89. Everyone is talking about it because it's what fans have always talked about regarding this show.

The really low ratings lower than anyone really expected caught people by surprise.

Yes, 5 seasons with 91 episodes is a very good run for this or any show.

A lot of other shows have similar runs.

  90. What Jim was talking about regarding more episodes this season.

  91. Finally watched the episode and it was a lot better then i expected
The only weak things in this episode where the fight scenes(seeing Josh's double every time Morgan has to fight is pretty sad) and the lame kiss between Chuck and Sarah

Otherwise the episode had pretty good stuff :
    - The Casey and Gertrude dynamic
i have a feeling its just the beginning and im pretty sure they are going to bring good couple scenes in this show that otherwise was hurt in that department since season 2(with the exception of Chuck and Hannah who actually shared a few decent kisses in S3)
    - Morgan as the rebel intersect is pretty nice i love how unlike Chuck he doesn't take crap from his handlers
    - Loved the Morgan Chuck talks
    - A very nice B story for the Buy More this episode and they found a way to involve Awesome in it too so that was pretty sweet

If they keep moving in this direction with Casey/Gertrude Morgan/Chuck and keep the boring Chuck/Sarah dull couple scenes at a minimum this season might turn out to be a good one after all : )

  93. Considering the storylines we are getting now (Morgan intersect) I'm glad the show is not doing that great and wont get a back order.

I prefer 5 seasons where I still love the show, rather 10 seasons ending with me hating it. Plus most of the earlier season writers are gone so it's not like you can compare show quality.

I love Chuck and Sarah and how they've been developed (well take away the badly excuted Shaw/Sarah). I also would have had Chuck/Sarah be in a secret relationsip from Beckam more but that aside I don't see them as being why the ratings decreased.

I hope Fedak & Co didn't write S5 finale thinking they had a chance of a back pick up.

  94. So maybe now we can stop hearing about another extension of the season. More "Chuck" is good, but they've had to retool so many times already for a back order. Better to just finish (hopefully) strong and let it stand.

Since they wrote this episode and it had some awesome Casey moments, does it seem like LeJudkins are the prominent Casey fans on the writing staff? A lot of the Casey scenes/plots/quotes that come to mind since they came on board with "TicTac" seem to be in episodes that they wrote. (OK, and they're responsible for the infamous meta of "Charah" last season too.) It's like when we saw an Ali Adler episode and knew it would have great family and great romantic stuff.

I'm almost thinking we need to turn FauxMorgan the Stuntman into some kind of a drinking game. It's one way to cope with it.

  95. I must admit that even though Chuck has been put through the ringer and lost some audience...looking at the Av Club their grades have been really good, up until season 4 that is. Season 2 and 3 were filled with A's and B's and the odd C in season 3. Season 4 had a few C's, 3 D's and some A's and B's. Season 5 has a C and B and by looking at the online buzz for the next episode maybe an A. That is pretty incredible consistency wise. I mean that a show can go for six series finales and still pull grades that are above C is fantastic. So while fans keep saying quality is down and this is the reason for this or that..blah blah, blah...they have done good the Chuck people, they really have.

  96. Unlike SMALLVILLE which was Fs for 6 seasons.

  97. There is one critic who annoys me, actually two. Steve Hiesler and Myles Mcnutt. They just keep crapping on the show for no particular reason other than they are pompous butt holes. The latter gave phase three a B+ and then went on to crap on it for the whole review. It did not have nuance and subtleness...whatever nutjob! Then again he craps on Fringe too...he must be one of those guys who only has time for Cable shows.

  98. I really liked this episode.

I liked the mission with Jeff Fahey.

I liked Carrie Anne Moss, Casey and how Carmichael industries is having troubles and having to take on seedy cases.

I liked the return of Big Mike he was very funny.
They didn't give him a lot to do last season and this is probably the best storyline the Buymore has had in awhile.

I liked how Awesome was used.

I liked how Morgan was used better this week and where the storyline is heading with his personality being affected.

Season 5 has been pretty good so far i'm looking forward to next week which i've heard is a very good episode.

That's a bummer about the ratings.

Chuck has come this far only for it's fanbase to almost completely abandon it.

  99. Magnus: Why isn't this episode available on line through NBC.COM, Hulu, iTunes, whatever? We didn't have power on Friday night (CT) and we'd like to see it before this next episode.

    Frustrated in CT.

    ReplyDelete
  100. It's on iTunes in Canada ! Maybe that's why the ratings in the U.S. are so low ... :P
    Lol

  101. I'm going to stab the next person who says the ratings are low because of something that is happening in Canada.

Did you try contacting you local affiliate? Maybe if enough people in your market complain about not seeing the episode because of the blackout, they could possibly replay it just in your market.
