  2. OK Mr Razorback. I know you mentioned this before. But since The Playboy Club Chucks replacement on Monday nights just got cancelled and if Chuck on Fridays night gets the same amount of rating it does on Fridays that it did on Mondays nights you think Chuck can get more episodes. I know that getting another season is not going to happen. But is their a chance maybe that Chuck could get more episodes ordered.

  3. I actually had this conversation with a couple of insiders this week, so I can answer you confidently.

There is a chance, but it is very unlikely. WB would need to lowball their fee and no one I talked to seems to think they will now that they have reached syndication numbers.

But if WB suddenly feels like having 100 episodes is worth losing $20 million for...

  4. So i going to take that as a no. Their no way WB would want to lose that much money.

  5. Unless they think it will make them $25 million more in the long run. These studios bank on long term returns on their investments.

  6. I'm hoping the math works out against a Chuck renewal, as seems to be likely. It's had its run, and a good one at that. Let it end gracefully on its own terms and let the cast and crew move on.

  7. I'm hoping the show gets an episode extension even though it's unlikely, Chuck is my favorite show and i would be a hypocrite to say im glad this is the last season

    @Jim
If you are bored with Chuck's "run" and you want the show to end why are you still watching the show ? and why do you care what happens to the show ?

  8. I am back to the nice and lovely and charming Chuck after watching the Breaking Bad finale...I am going to have nightmares for a long time after watching that! I need more Chuck, please the WB please make it work for at least 9 more episodes! I love BB, but man we need a counter series to all that darkness and Chuck is it!

  9. "If you are bored with Chuck's "run" and you want the show to end why are you still watching the show ? and why do you care what happens to the show ?"

At what point did the subject of boredom come up? And it's precisely because I care about Chuck that I don't want an extension.

I love the show and look forward to season 5. However, Chuck has had the cancellation rug pulled out from under it on more than one occasion, and the result has been largely unsatisfying (see Morgansect). They seem to have been given closure for once. I want them to have that closure, and I want to see the best they can do with that closure in mind.

If you view the show in terms of the archetypal hero's journey, then by any logical measure it's at or near its end. Maybe they could change direction enough for it to be worth it, but I would rather they not take the chance when they are so close to wrapping things up into a (nearly) perfect package. Would I watch if the show got an extension of some sort? Of course I would, and I would wish them the best in pulling it off even if I'm doubtful.

That's my opinion only. You are certainly entitled to disagree. However, I don't think you are entitled to question that opinion or comment on whether or how much I care. Far too many shows outstay their welcome, and I would hate to see something I've enjoyed so much over the past few years join those ranks.

  10. I agree with Jim- because I love Chuck, I want it to end on a "final chapter" that the writers and actors etc. were really able to plan and execute the way they wanted, not half of which they came up with on the fly. I've come to terms with the idea that it will be 13 episodes and done, and so at this point I would just like an amazing 13 episodes to close the book on everything.

  11. Another person in total agreement with Jim.

I don't know where the "boredom" thing came from.

There's nothing wrong with looking forward to an ending to a book, no matter how much you've enjoyed reading it. And you don't stop reading just because the ending is approaching. If anything, your reading becomes more intense.

    Viva La Closure!

  12. Yeah, I am not bored but I am excited for it to end.

  13. You guys operate under the presumption that if the writers know this 13 episodes are the last they are going to come up with a perfect arc with a perfect ending
The problem with this presumption is Fedak said it many times before the ending will leave the story going -> not a closed book type of ending

What makes you think that more time to prepare for the 13 episodes is going to make a difference in a good way ?
remember season 3 ? they barely came back, an episode extension was unlikely and they had plenty of time to prepare for the season.
So what did they do with those 13 episodes ? they butchered the characters and the relations between the characters.
Funny enough the story got better with the episode extension in season 3 both plot wise and character wise
So i doubt an episode extension in season 5 would somehow damage the quality of the show giving the fact they are used to last minute episode extension and the Chuck endings are always left open ended

  14. Razorback,
Do you know when we'll finally get our first look at Ms. Verbanski? Also, how many episodes will she be featured in?

  15. News and twitter reports first mention Carrie Ann Moss being on the set for 505. If she was there for earlier episodes, no one mentioned it or leaked it.

  16. Lucia, I will go with what MediaSavant said. I don't remember offhand if she shows up any earlier.

  17. Adrian--I actually think that 313 would have been an apt ending to the series if it had ended up that way. Chuck had overcome all the obstacles thrown in his way, defeated his rival Shaw, saved Sarah's life and finally consummated their relationship in Paris. Classic "hero's journey" ending.

    Not awful at all.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I also think 313 would have worked nicely as an ending. The Shaw arc served a necessary function. Personally, I think it could have been handled better and that there were big missteps along the way, but that's irrelevant to the larger picture. As part of his growth, Chuck needed to be separated from his support structure and he needed to hit rock bottom. That included losing Sarah for a while in a way that wasn't just superficial.

  19. I didn't much like 3.13 so I will have to respectfully disagree with you NUTBAGS!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I agree with Adrian that the writers wouldn't necessarily write a better ending just because they have a final set date of 13 episodes.

I liked several episodes in the second halfs of season 3 and season 4.

Hypothetically if this show were to get some more episodes i'd probably like most of them.

I don't get the dislike of the first half of season 3 that a lot of people have.

    I liked season 3 a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yeah I liked the overall idea of season 3 just no the execution. The plot was kind of not well structured..I mean Chuck went on his first solo mission before he had an asset or took on an alias, when really he should have done both before. They had Chuck ask or every character referenced Chuck and Sarah's relationship (awesome 3.03, Buymore 3.08, Morgan 3.09, Casey 3.10, casey, morgan, awesome and ellie 3.12....etc) that they were just banging us over the head with it...this was meant to be Chuck's decision yet everyone was telling him what he should have known or what he did know in season 2 that he loved Sarah...etc. There was a huge disconnect by 3.13, the PLI (as much as I love Kristen Kreuk) were too much convolution to the narrative and not neccessary. The name reveal was piss poor, etc, etc.

  22. Oh and the whole everybody or Sarah saying that Chuck has changed because he was lying and he pulled Casey's tooth...like it is so bad to lie to people...I would think there are worse things and besides he lied tonnes in seasons 1 and 2...so Chuck never really changed..not from what we saw, it was just Characters saying that he changed and so did not carry much wieght...but the show was smart enough by 3.14 to just sweep that all under the rug and even reverse the whole killing thing...so that was cool of them.

  23. @MediaSavant
It's probably just a matter of taste but i think 4.24 serves as a much better series final episode then 3.13

    @Jim
"That included losing Sarah for a while in a way that wasn't just superficial."
If the way Chuck lost Sarah is not superficial or illogical to you then i`m really curious what's your definition for superficial

    ReplyDelete
  24. Adrian,

I didn't think Chuck was boring before, and I did not claim the Shaw arc was the height of logic now. In fact, I think there were several lapses in logic starting with Prague, which is why I had huge problems with the execution of those episodes. However, there is a big difference between execution and intent. The intent was to drive a real wedge between Chuck and Sarah, and that was probably necessary for Chuck's growth at that point.

A superficial separation would have been a fight lasting an episode or two or a "breakup" a la the Jill arc where it's clear that feelings haven't changed and that nothing much is at stake in the long term. Instead, what we had was an extended period where Sarah seriously questioned who Chuck was becoming (whether justified or not) and Chuck had to face the fact that he was at least partly responsible for driving her away. The barrier wasn't circumstances or CIA rules or external trivialities.

    Jim

P.S. For what it's worth, I also thought 4.24 or even 4.13 would have been much better series enders than 3.13. However, as a way to cap things at that point, 3.13 would have worked.

  25. Can we stop all this superficial talk and discuss Sarah in fishnets?!? CS sexytime ready for Morgan interruption!
