CHUCK Renewed for a 5th Season

No more wonderment, no more conjectures. CHUCK has been renewed for a 5th season! CELEBRATION TIME!

As was predicted on this blog last month, the show returns for 13 episodes next season.

Update: NBC announced this WILL BE THE FINAL SEASON.
UPDATE 2: CHUCK moves to Fridays next season.*
*sources say it is 13 episodes with no chance of more

  1. Yay! More Chuck!

But 13 eps again...I wonder if not having an end date will continue to hurt the pacing of the show? They should give these 13 eps to wrap up the show IMO. Either way, I'm happy and I hope the writers can continue to do good by the characters we love and come up with great storylines for S5. Oh and more sex ;) LOL

Plus another year of this site! Yay!

Question, how do you see this news affecting the season finale? Does it make a better season finale then series?

  2. As I said back during the Dear DR, I don't think renewal or cancellation was going to change the finale one way or another.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Sorry I forgot about that.

  4. Well If Chuck comes back for a fifth season I am hoping they at least get twenty-two episodes so they can at least reach the hundred episode mark. I think if they do that then I think NBC will give a second look before thinking of cancelling them when thinking about a sixth season. But one thing at a time. Right now I am guessing all we can do is cross our fingers and for all you people that have the nielson thing will watch it so we can get great rating.

    ReplyDelete
  5. 22 episodes? We were like 20 minutes from NBC announcing it was cancelled and you GREEDY FLOPPY HEADED CANADIAN are already talking about 22 episodes?!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Yeah, we need to reach one hundred episodes. I'm with Greg.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Let's face it, Chuck pulled through by the skin of it's teeth, and we've got WB to thank (so i hear.) Wrap the story up nicely in 13 episodes, and i'm a very very happy camper

    ReplyDelete
  8. That's great news Magnus .. i hope it will perform better in september & with better ratings we may hope for a few more eps (but anyways as you sayed .. we shouldn't be greedy and be happy with what we got).
On that note .. some1 just uploaded a really cool interview from the last ep of the season on youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXA1yc0eepg&feature=player_embedded
I hope i'm not breaking any rules by posting the link :P

  9. Party!

After monday it will be long summer until september, but at least with something great to look forward to. (and with luckily enough to do to keep myself very busy in the meantime).

Congrats Magnus with your great source. Must be a real super guy/gal you got there. Maybe organizing a donation campaign for a nice present for him/her? Or is that insulting or whatever?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yup, thank WB the next time you see him or her. They deserve praise for snatching the show from the jaws of death and making sure NBC could not say no.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I didn't think I was being greedy but being hopeful. I would think most people would want that and plus I don't know if it was you who said this or someone else on your podcast but when we got the back 9 for season 3 were the best for that season. If we get that for season 5 maybe we can be luck again.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Question for you Magnus. Did you source talk anything about them calling it the final season at all? I mean I know you never want to put the cart before the horse. But I think we can all agree we are very lucky our show is coming back at all. I would just like to think that with a known ending they could really go out with a bang. What do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  13. And I promise to get my source something nice for giving us such hope in a time when everyone else, including usually super positive Chuck Versus the Podcast, were being so negative.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Canadian Greg,

What a tool. Come on dude celebrate!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. What am I going to do?

I'm flying to San Diego to be first in line for the Chuck panel. Ballroom 20, here I come.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Joe, he didn't say that but maybe the show runners announce it this weekend. I don't know.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Thanks for the good news i'll be happy all summer long :)

    JonyBgood

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thanks Magnus. And cheers to this fun news. I honestly cant believe we get to see at least 14 more hours of Chuck.

    ReplyDelete
  19. And just as I predicted, I see people giving credit for renewal to people who had nothing to do with it.

Man, am I good at predicting how this fandom behaves or what? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  20. I hope they call it the final season actually. I would like to see what the writers can do knowing it really is the final season. I'm happy with 13 eps. I've been seeing everything after S3 as a bonus...well after S2 actually, lol.

So the WB saved Chuck. Go them!

    - J

    ReplyDelete
  21. Awesome news but just confirmed what magnus had been predicting for weeks now!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. J says ...

I added a little bit to the donations in light of the good news . Also for your supreme general awesomeness :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm very excited now. I was prepared to say goodbye, and all but sure I would. A little worried about how low the budget must be now, though.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm not giving credit for anyone saving it except the only thing that mattered; WB was like 'Nah, we like Chuck, so don't cancel it please, kthx."

Though you are awesome for the fandom, Magnus. Also, I think my negative nancy thinking worked, because I am awful at predictions, so it went the opposite way. Clearly I am also to thank. (lolno)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yeah! Much love to the WB for giving us another season! Magnus way to be the FIRST to give us hope so Kudos to you and your insider!

    ReplyDelete
  26. J, you rule!!! I am going to give my source a nice gift and tell him it came from you!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Julian ( formerly J says .. ) says ...

Your welcome Magnus ! It's just awesome to know that you'll be doing Chuck related stuff for a little while longer and that makes me happy on the inside :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. NBC has their non-fiction block on Fridays. Chuck is NOT going to Fridays. NBC is not Fox.
    /pet peeve

I'm surprised at another season, and that we found out so soon. Chuck must be profitable enough for WB.

I haven't been in love with everything this season, but if I can make it through season 4 of Prison Break, Chuck season 5 should be a breeze.

    --erica

    ReplyDelete
  29. CHUCK is definitely not very profitable for WB, yet. But they clearly think it will be or they wouldn't have done this deal.

Julian, you rock. Totally. Made my week and now I get to give gifts to those who earned it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thanks so much for reporting this, I love you and this site... You're the best!

Apart from that I'm freaking ECSTATIC! Yay! I am so happy. Im totally smiling and can't get rid of it. YAY CHUCK! Oh yeah and I kind of agree with the Canadian. I am greedy. I think us fans need to pool together and protest for 22 episodes next season! WoooOoo Hooooo!

    ReplyDelete
  31. this is such awesome news - so pumped!!!!. and sorry magnus im sure you have answered this a hundred times before but what episode number are we up to? how many till synidcation?
    MF

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wow I feel like I am in the twilight zone reading headlines like "Wonder Woman NOT picked up; Chuck likely to be renewed!" lol. Either way I'm excited for at least 13 more hours of Chuck; more CYT from the great Magnus, and more episodic goodness for syndication. BTW thanks Magnus for all your hard work, confidence and insider info- Obviously, its proven to be the best!

    -OPD

    ReplyDelete
  33. As I said to someone some time ago... you don't have to like me but you have to love my sources. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  34. @MF if my answer in place of the great Magnus I believe by the end of this season we will be at 78 episodes. A 13 episode, season 5 would put Chuck at 91 episodes total. Closer to the magic (but not really magic) 100 episodes.

    -OPD

    ReplyDelete
  35. WB thinks it needs 88 for syndication, so expect to hear that they have sold the show into syndication next year. They must have a buyer or buyers to have made the deal.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wow... thanks for the donations to those who did. I just sent out gift cards to my ninjas from you all. They deserve it more than me. This site wouldn't be what it is without them. And who knows if it will be the same next year but we had a fun run the last couple of seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I had serious doubts that NBC would drop their best Monday night performer (even if it had low ratings)...Then again, Fox seems to get along just fine cancelling all of their shows and starting fresh.

If it in fact does get renewed, I can honestly say that I would NOT mind if the wedding doesn't actually happen in the finale. It would make for a good lead-in to next season...unlike this season which felt like trying to start a car that hadn't been started in years. They need a great season premiere that grabs your attention. The pilot episode did that for me. S3 & S4 premieres seemed flat. Good luck Chuck.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Wow. Nice donation total there, Magnus. I'll probably ship ya a fiver tomorrow at some point. It'd be more, but I'm also donating a bit to Red Cross, and other donation spots for the Tornado Relief Fund in Northern Alabama. Those storms were just so devastating and seeing as I live in Alabama.. i felt I needed to help.

Anyway.. I'm also surprised WW didn't get the pick up. I had a bet on the over/under of WW episodes being around 7-8ish before cancellation. Too funny.

    ReplyDelete
  39. is there any way that sarah gets cut off from season 5 and we see hannah again?

    ReplyDelete
  40. its kind of funny on the latest chuckvsthepodcast theyre talking about how they miss big chunks due to tweeting and whatnot.

Hm... who said that would happen?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yeah, stop tweeting and whatnot. It didn't have any effect on the show returning... but why listen to me? I have only been right...

  43. Word on the street is that the Chuck decision has been delayed until they finalize the #of eps. Please tell me the deal will not fall apart or we will get less than 13.

    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  44. Great Magnus (seems redundant right?)

I am torn because now I must pay tribute to 2 dieties: WB and yourself.

Let the blood of the goat spill.

Here's to Sexy Sex Season 5!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm so excited thank you nbc and WB. We got mad at you sometimes but thank you for renewing chuck:))))))))

    ReplyDelete
  46. "Word on the street is that the Chuck decision has been delayed until they finalize the #of eps. Please tell me the deal will not fall apart or we will get less than 13."

I think it is just a matter of agreeing to a number not whether to do it at all.

    ReplyDelete
  47. One side pushing for more than 13 or one side pushing for less? Seeing the vanity articles say 'at least 13' eps makes me wonder if more may be on the table since chuck has always gotten the 13 ep renewal then had to get more later.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I don't know. I am not even going to bother him with questions about it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yeah, cant blame ya, more chuck either way is good news, and your source has obviously been more than helpful as it is.

and... i dont know why i put 'vanity' instead of 'variety' in that last post.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I figure if things go south, he will tell me. This is a busy time of year for them. I am grateful for his time whenever he has it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Thanks magnus for the big hint about the renewal...Do you have any idea as to when NBC will confirm the news?

    ReplyDelete
  52. I can't say for sure when they will confirm it. Could be any second now or Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I love how some of the more vocal fans have reacted to tv by the numbers "rage-baiting" updates recent. Chill out. It's their job to get you to their site

    ReplyDelete
  54. Rage baiting? What does that mean?

    ReplyDelete
  55. seeing this news puts a lot of pressure off the season finale. I wonder what the twist is at the end. I think Team B is on Burn Notice by the CIA

    ReplyDelete
  56. Nearly everything they post in regards to Chuck almost always infuriates the emotionally unstable members of the fandom. It kinda makes me chuckle. Then I cry. Or something.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Magnus,
What did you think of the sneak peaks? I assume that them taking new identities and running isn't the cliffhanger since you would have to assume that they wouldn't spoil it plus it would probably be short lived in S5 but it would be intriguing - not - 0/10

    ReplyDelete
  58. If Chuck and Sarah are on the run..

What if Jill\Fulcrum remnants are the ones that Chuck and Sarah have to turn to for help?

    ReplyDelete
  59. I already answered that Jill won't be in the finale. Though, if you mean for season 5... we shall see.

HT, I thought the sneak peeks looked fun.

DMJ, negativity breeds negativity which in turn drives up interest.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yeah, i meant for season 5. From those previews looks like there's going to be more than enough going on without trying to fit the Jill angle in there too.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I just ate Delicious-Sauce!!! Season 5!!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO! Victoryyyyyyyyyyy!!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. i knew it!!! now lets fight for Season 6!!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Hell Yeah! Chuck FTW! <3 #Chuck It Number One! We Don't Want It Gone! Chuck Is Number One! We Don't Want It Gone!# :D

    ReplyDelete
  65. THIS CALLS FOR A CELEBRATION !!!!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Im very happy and content with this but everyone is reporting 13 ep pickup. Do they usually announce that and say possiblity for a back 6 or 9 later? Or is just 13? Either way victory

    HT

    ReplyDelete
  67. Dude, did you see that creeper Canadian from the other podcast said he 'called it'??? LOL! Didn't he predict cancellation a few weeks ago? The only person who called it was you, Magnus. No one else gave it a chance and you called not just renewal but the number of episodes and when it would return. You rock!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Yeah, someone else pointed that out to me. It is sad how desperate he is... and none of his followers call him on it. If I tried the same thing, my followers would hammer me. I guess that is because they expect a level of honesty his followers do not.

Oh well, CHUCK is back... does it matter who was right and who was wrong?

OK, so it does matter because I was right and he was wrong. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  69. @dimokritos

NBC already said this is the 5th and final so whether it gets a back half pickup remains to be seen but you can go ahead and let the fight for season 6 end and just be happy and enjoy season 5

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yep, apparently they did say this was it. I still don't know if that means no chance for a back end, but we at least get a final season where no one needs to bother with pretending to save it.

    ReplyDelete
  71. There may be no reason to try to 'save' it, but chuck fans have been doing pointless stuff that had no benefit before, so why stop now?

    ReplyDelete
  72. I can't argue with that logic. They have been wasting their time for this long, why stop to try to actually enjoy the episodes?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Glad for writers, staff, cast & us that it can be wrapped up nicely at the end but still...

I can't imagine life without Chucky boy :(

    ReplyDelete
  74. I bet that with them knowing they are going to end the series, that we will get some kind of time jump finale.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'm not really expecting a back 9 to be honest unless something really stinks in the rest of NBC's line up. Getting to a 100 episodes and finishing would be nice though. As I recall the shows average over the first 13 eps has generally been at the NBC average and the back 9+ episodes have slid under it. So I ask myself why would NBC gve the show an option on 9 eps when they know it struggles and drops?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Will chuck still be on Mondays?

    ReplyDelete
  77. This is great news.

If all fans would just listen to Magnus.

Maybe if Chuck's ratings go back up again in the fall and the majority of their new shows tank it will get additional episodes.

Then again I wonder if Warner bros. didn't just negotiate for a final 13 to get the show into syndication. Then would be unwilling to give NBC another deal for more episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I'm so happy!!!! Thank you NBC for renewing our CHUCK!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  79. The deal is unlikely to go past 13 unless we have massive failure from everything else and only CHUCK hangs tough. That is beyond unlikely... plus why announce this as the final season unless your intent is to dump it after the initial order?

    But hey, ANYTHING can happen.

    ReplyDelete
  80. This is really awesome, great news.Any news about back order 9 or smt ? 19/22 episodes is always better than 13 episodes and feels kinda sad same time feeling very happy, sad is for this fall is the last time we see new Chuck :( :(
It's been a great run for a series like Chuck,5 seasons means super, will be awesome if a movie comes too u know,5 season and a movie of Chuck is FTW !

Still remember how I started watching Chuck on middle of season 1 in AXN,they aired 1st 2 seasons and thanks to internet I watched up to date.

    Thilina,
    A fan from Asia/Sri Lanka.

    ps-Magnus your podcast's are awesome :D

    ReplyDelete
  81. no chance of getting more than 13 episodes?

    ReplyDelete
  82. I won't say there is no chance... but whatever chance there is, it is very, very, very, very low.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Good news but not great news .. couldn't they just renew it without the whole "FINAL SEASON" part ? =))) anyhow .. i think this show reached a number of episodes that not the bigest fan would of predicted in the begining. 2bad they'll end it so close to 100 eps. Anyhow .. thx for the info/spoilers/etc. you provided to us all Magnus and i really apreciate the fact that you are honest about everything.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I'd hate for there to be a 9/11 episode pickup order. Yes, it means more CHUCK, but it also means more writers who have to scratch themselves and go: "We just wrote a wicked plot for 13 episodes (Whatever anyone says, I really enjoy Season 4 and Timothy Dalton is just about the best villain this show has seen to date). How the hell are we going to tie in these back 9?" So yeh, I'm more pleased that NBC has said they would call it quits after this. The writers can give one last hurrah, the actors can as well, and at the end of the road we can look back on a TV Series that (whether you want to admit it or not) has touched everyone that's on this website.

Be pleased that it stuck by for the amount of episodes that it has (+13 makes 91 am I right?) and enjoy the last season of a fantastic TV series.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Seriously, why can't people just be happy for 5 minutes before they are on to the next thing. We are getting a fifth season of a show that might not have seen a 2nd on another network, definitely not a third, and definitely definitely not a fourth. Plus we get the opportunity to see an actual ending, which low rated shows almost never, ever get. I almost say make it 13 and that's it, period end. That way the writers can craft a tight 13 epi arc that they have been known for with no questions hanging over their head. Personally, I think that is the best way to assure the most satisfying ending possible.

    ReplyDelete
  86. i think its better this way. we know whats coming and its a smooth way to end the series. but now lets celebrate!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Im sure youre loving canadian podcaster right now... now giving credit to the twitter campaigns.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Btw they should make a Chuck spin off,a sitcom of Jefster maybe ? :D :D
two lunatic guys with a guitar roaming in America can be fun

    ReplyDelete
  89. I'm very happy for the renewal. 13 episodes are perfect for to end the show of the best way.

Magnus, Thanks so much for all the informations, spoilers, rumors... but over all, and as somebody said for your honestly, thats to be grateful.

    Thanks, again!!!

    ReplyDelete
  90. While I totally agree with the no back-order thing, I also know, I'm gonna hate myself for saying this once it's done. :P

    We're spoiled indeed.

Glad how things worked out anyway.

    Bob

    ReplyDelete
  91. He isn't the only one, people who work on the show are spewing the same BS. Shrug. It is just the illusion some people need to feed to the delusions of other people. Anyone who believes it to be true WANTS to believe it is true and would anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Julian says ...

Good to hear it's official ! I look forward to CYT next week :)

Ok , I'll ask the inevitable question . Did/will we lose any of the writers this year like we did last year ? What do you think the Chance is that Ali or Matt Miller come back now that both their shows were cancelled ?

    ReplyDelete
  93. I actually let out a sigh of relief when I read "fifth and final season". It should be good for the writers to go into it with no question marks hanging over it and just leaving it all on the table for those 13 episodes.

I liked how Schwartz ended OC with a flash forward to show the characters later in life.

I'm sure it also helps the actors and other crew plan their careers beyond those thirteen.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I think the people who have to be happiest are the lead actors... who can now start planning out the rest of their careers.

CHUCK has been a great ride but I have always felt it had a finite story life. 5 seasons was always the perfect way to go out and now we do.

    ReplyDelete
  95. what are u talking about?

    ReplyDelete
  96. I wouldn't be surprised if the network and WB talk up the fan campaign, whether it made a difference or not. As we go into the upfronts, everyone in the ad industry know it's not going to get high ratings. So, NBC will promote "fan passion" and engagement instead.

That kind of thing helps them sell to product placement advertisers.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I would bet money they talk about how great the fans are and how they fought for the show blahblahblah. But internally they talk about how CHUCK fans can't be counted on any longer to deliver worthy numbers. This happened because WB low balled the show and for no other reason. I am told NBC was just about to dump the show... we got really close.

    ReplyDelete
  98. josh talked about the fans and thanked them on twitter

    ReplyDelete
  99. What was Josh going to say?

Thanks to my studio and the network but you fans disappointed me all season.

    I don't think so.

    ReplyDelete
  100. this show has great fans... i see it on the internet. i dont think there's another one with so loyal fans. but the americans dont watch it... dunno why...

    ReplyDelete
  101. I am not saying the show doesn't have some great fans or that it is one of the most active on the Internet, but it doesn't translate to NUMBERS that matter to the network. And so the budget gets cut more and the show is always about to be cancelled. At least this time we know it ends next season. So, people don't have to waste their time pretending to be saving the show again.

    ReplyDelete
  102. awelle, I need you to edit your post since you included an expletive.

    Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Or I should say... retype it...

    ReplyDelete
  104. You were right from the beginning!!!
Thank you for your honesty about Chuck's fate and everything.
I hope for more episodes but don't get cocky right?

    my question
what about the next season's bugdet?
    Any clue?

    nena

    ReplyDelete
  105. Jack at TVBTN posted this:

"The show was going to be cancelled until WB gave in. Fans saved [redacted]."

So you are not totally alone in calling the truth. ;)

And I´d love to tweet a thank you to the WB, but twitter is down. Anyway I am really glad we will get a final season and I love that it is declared that beforehand.

And thanks to you for always telling it how it is. I would like to know, if you think they will definitely write some real ending now, as you said previously, you doubted Fedak would ever truly write an ending?

(Sorry about the expletive. Didn´t think about that, as it seemed so fitting. ;))

    ReplyDelete
  106. That's Harsh DR.

Sure, it was the WB deal that saved us this time and NBC were definitely likely to bin Chuck, but the cast & crew thanking the fans is more for their passion and trying to help. The fact that people were trying to save the show by any means possible, even if it didn't work.

There is a very small chance that ANY show could gain more nielsen viewers without the actual network promoting the show, but Chuck fans tried and that's why we've been noted many times.

    Other Note:
You going to podcast (after the finale) about your hopes for Season 5?

    ReplyDelete
  107. awelle, thank you. I looked for the comment but didn't find it. Oh well, I believe your quote. :)

You will find that the people with something invested in spinning a message will tell you how the fans saved the show and blahblah. Those who have no such investment in the spin will tell you what I have been.

Now, I love my CHUCK fans who have given so much of their time and money to the show they love. I do.

But if the fandom was so great and so strong that NBC quacked in its booties every year at the fear of cancelling it, and the advertisers were so supportive that they couldn't help but call NBC to "save" the show, then why are its ratings such junk and why does its budget keep getting cut?

And why did NBC just announce it as the final season?

    ReplyDelete
  108. I assume with the announcement of the final 13 that CHUCK will stay on Mondays in the fall to get hammered . Not that it matters now lol . Would have been nice to see what the show could have done on Fridays . More CHUCK on the way yipppeeeee !

    ReplyDelete
  109. yeah. true. i also have seen ον a research that Chuck is the series with the most illegal download on the internet. btw twitter is down... wtf!!!???

    ReplyDelete
  110. For the first time i disagree with your statement Magnus .. indeed it's a good thing that now they can forsee the future of the show and don't get surprised by the cancelation.
But them being happy about it ? .. i don't think so honestly .. the most of you tend to think this was just their ramp and now they are going to turn into Brad Pitt / Angelina Jolie but if you really wanna be honest with yourself Zach/Yvonne aren't going to turn into superstars overnight (i don't say they are not good actors .. in my opinion they both are great actors and way underated). But if you put the facts together it's pretty elementary they'll end up in other tv'shows and not in "Blockbusters". And contrary to the popular believe i trully think if one of them is going to make it big that one is Zach (more good publicity, singing at the oscars etc.) As for Yvonne .. she's a great actress but in my opinion she'll get roles like the one(everybody gets overexcited with) in Killer Elite, where she plays `eye`candy` a romantic interest for the main character .. that implies not nearly enough screen time. So i really believe that Chuck is the High of their careers(hopefully i am wrong and they are going to be stars on Hollywood Bld. but don't bet on it). I am a big fan of the show and it's cast and i didn't mean to offend anyone .. just my 2cents ;) :X

  111. "And thanks to you for always telling it how it is. I would like to know, if you think they will definitely write some real ending now, as you said previously, you doubted Fedak would ever truly write an ending?"

Until someone pays me to not tell it how it is (which is essentially why ChuckTV and Chuck Vs. the Podcast lie to you, because they are "paid" for their services), I always will. Actually, I have no plans to be "paid" by anyone but the fans, via donations, so you will always get the truth from me since you are my employers. ;)

I think Fedak could write a finale that is less open ended than the one we get on Monday now that he KNOWS it is the end. But I still think he will leave it a bit open ended... like things are wrapped up and then they get a call for another mission. But I don't think he will do a cliffhanger if he KNOWS it is the end.

    ReplyDelete
  112. because every show has to come to an end.and maybe the writers didnt have anything else to write about. thats why viewers are falling down every year... its just natural

    ReplyDelete
  113. It´s the third comment on page 9.

And what you say does make total sense to me, but logic doesn´t always prevail for everyone. ;)

What you say about the lead actors having to be very happy about this, does also ring very true. There was an interview with Zac, Yvonne and Josh at some NBC press event not long ago, in which Yvonne said they are basically blacklisted to be casted for everything else as long as the show is in limbo and Zac agreed. With Chuck now having a definitive end date, that must make things much easier for them.

I am also glad for all the other people working on the show, who now know when they have to have some other form of employment. This really can only help them as well.

While TVBTN had probably hoped for another season of Chuck fans frantically following the ratings, but maybe some still will. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  114. It may be harsh, in your mind, but it is the truth. Don't like the truth, don't read this site. I don't sugar coat things. And when Zac tweets that fans saved the show and then confirms he means it in interviews, then I will believe it since Zac is too honest for his own good.

As for Zac and Yvonne not wanting to move on from CHUCK, I will trust my instincts.

Finally, CHUCK is NOT the most illegally downloaded show on the Internet. Not even close. It was for one week and someone wrote an article about it. Get your facts straight. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Dimokritos, obviously you are much more aware of what is going on behind the scenes and why these things happen so you should run this site.

    ReplyDelete
  116. not all of us have insiders on nbc and the cast...

    ReplyDelete
  117. at least i am not a jerk...

    ReplyDelete
  118. Anyway... we have 14 new episodes on the way and that is most likely it. 91 episodes... it could have all ended after 13. Be happy with what you are getting. Because I am going to be shocked if those final 13 don't look like they were made for $5 and happen mostly inside the Buy More.

    ReplyDelete
  119. dude. u just take credit for things that insiders tell u... yeah... this way i can run this site. anyone can.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I don't take credit for what insiders tell me. I give credit to my insiders.

And you ARE a jerk for misrepresenting me just to be a douche. BANNED FOR LIFE.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Unbelievable we celebrate here people so stop arguing and be happy for our renewal. Damn you always ruin everything with your moan and your complains...

    ReplyDelete
  122. It isn't a CHUCK renewal until someone gets BANNED FOR LIFE.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Dimokritos .. maybe anyone can post spoilers from the insiders but not anyone can SugarCoat the spoilers in a nice form so they feel atractive to us viewers and at the same time don't disclose to much so we'll get surprised when we see the actual episode. What Magnus does is pro`bono and also very well done(at least that's what i think)
i don't know how many people will have the passion and determination to keep a blog with live updates about a TV show (and do it 4 free) so.. i really don't get why your so upset with him :)

    ReplyDelete
  124. I guess we have to wait that ChuckTV blog of yours a little longer ;-)

In the end did the NFL situation have any bearing on the renewal?

    ReplyDelete
  125. Yeah... too bad about that wait. ;)

NFL situation seemed to have nothing to do with it. Was just WB making it so NBC couldn't possibly turn down the deal.

    ReplyDelete
  126. It's sad , but a little funny if you think about it that last year when everyone thought Chuck would be cancelled Ali , Matt , Phil left at the end of the season Scott left half way thru to either start new shows or take over pre-existing ones and now ALL of them have been cancelled . What would you have thought the chances of that would have been last year ?

    ReplyDelete
  127. Oh and not ANYONE can post info from insiders... because you first have to get those insiders. So, go do that and then you can get rid of me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  128. Now twitter is back and you can complain about whatever you want outside this blog please!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  129. One good thing about Chuck's low ratings is the actors on the show don't have to worry about being typecast.

I never even heard of Chuck until about 6 months ago.

I imagine a lot of other people had never heard of the show either.

If the show was really popular Zac, Yvonne and the other cast members would have real hard time finding other work.

    ReplyDelete
  130. That is a great point. The thing that keeps them from ever being recognized come award season is also the thing that keeps them from becoming typecast for playing those characters for five seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I would bet some people who know Zac as the "mayor of WB" don't actually know what show he is on. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  132. I really disagree with what AdriaN`S said. AdriaN`S seems to be offering their opinion on how far Zac and Yvonne's careers can go. That's not necessarily how Zac and Yvonne feel about it...or how their agents feel about it.

Nobody is saying that either one thinks they'll be the next superstar. But, give them some credit for having ambition and wanting to try something else.

My instincts say Magnus's instincts are right.

    ReplyDelete
  133. What is being demonstrated here, from a couple of fans, is that they think their fan-centric suppositions/fantasy is somehow supported by any facts. The problem is that the industry isn't what most people think it is. Actors aren't sitting around loving the fact that they are on the show you love, at least in the way you think they are. They may love working on a show and may be glad to have it, but their handlers want to move them onto bigger and better things. And CHUCK has undoubtedly slowed down the career progress of at least one actor.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Hold on I know we normally get some pretty excrable logic when ever ratings or renewals come up but seriously? If the show was really popular, Zac and Yvonne would have 'real hard time' finding work? Would they give a stuff?

If the show was really popular both Zac and Yvonne would be tied to multi-year deals and rolling around in sack fulls of cash. With a bit of work on the side during hiatus.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Oh yeah, if the show was popular they would be happy to be making TONS OF MONEY. But typecasting is a real problem in the industry for some actors, especially when they have played defining roles.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Yeah, I bet Zac sat through Thor wincing a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Zac and Yvonne might not become Superstars, but they are hardly Superstars now.

They are employed actors. And I think they have a pretty good chance of getting employed somewhere else once Chuck ends. Which path their careers might take then is really not that predictable.

Like Magnus already said, we should hope more for the other actors to get great gigs again. I´d really like to see more of Mark Christopher Lawrence, Vic Sahay and Scott Krinsky. And I very much hope for more Josh Gomez on tv or in movies. He is hilarious.

And like I said, I also think to know when they have to find new jobs, is probably also not a bad thing for the countless other people employed on Chuck.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I bet we see the other actors getting work on future Schwartz and/or Fedak shows. Producers tend to pay things like that forward. Schwartz is well known for promoting his people and bringing them along.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Aside from typecasting, most actors usually love to stretch their wings a little and try out new things, despite the possibility of making tons of money on hit shows.

I followed the X files pretty closely and David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson loved to move on, despite earning a lot of money. David Duchovny wouldn´t even return for the finale season no matter how much money they offered him.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I can see that, on the other hand it does potentially lead to a steady stream of jobs playing 'that' character. As an aside I've always thought as an exampple the lead on Pysch, James Roday handles that 'problem' well by producing/acting/directing plays in his off season, to keep himself interested. I could see Zac perhaps doing something similar with the Nerd Machine.

    ReplyDelete
  141. If that means McKenna Melvin has more work in the future, im just fine with that.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Zac is young and versatile... and well liked. I think you will see him become a much bigger star over the next few years. Yvonne, like most women in the biz, has a much shorter time frame to become super famous and she may have already run out of that time. I hope not since I am a big fan and want to see her do much more.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Agree Chuck fans are spoiled. Not only get a miracle season 5, we get an end date, go out on it's own terms and not too mention all the character profession. Would anyone in a million years have guessed Chuck and Sarah marrying ever!

We have no idea how spoiledwe are.

    Rich

    ReplyDelete
  144. I have an idea how spoiled you are. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  145. Good point about seeing some of the actors on other Schwartz or Fedak shows.

Something else to look forward to. :)

And these two can now also concentrate on getting new projects off the ground, without Chuck suffering for them being preoccupied with something else.

Knowing a finite end date in advance does really seem kind of sweet, although I would have gladly taken any amount of Chuck episodes, even if they do all take place in the Buy More and look as if they were made for 5 dollar, as long as the key players are still there.

I hope they did not kill off Sarah in the season 4 finale after all, and I have to eat my words. :/

    ReplyDelete
  146. Oh I don't know, Yvonne is a genuinely talented actress and she has a pretty big range. She'll be 29 when the show ends so she has maybe six or seven years left before she is seen as 'old' from a shallow looks department and by then I'd have thought her talents as an actress would have cemented her. Perhaps not super super famous but I think she'd have had to go into a breakout film immediately for that.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I see some fans already trying to "get CHUCK a full 5th season." Delusions on top of illusions.

    ReplyDelete
  148. eaglemmomomomo, read the last sentence I just typed. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  149. some people are trying to dissapoint the fans the day the show has been renewed,

    ReplyDelete
  150. I think season 5 should be it IMO. Hell yeah, I would love a season 6 but I think that is pushing it a little too far. But who knows, I assume if Chuck does really good in numbers next season. NBC will reconsider. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  151. I never said i think they are extatic about working on CHUCK cause they are underpaid raporting to other primetime shows that reach 5 season, i only stated that i don't think (and again this is my point of view i haven't done any studies about it) they are all that happy about the show ending for obvious reasons .. like steady work`place, some level of atachment etc.
And i still think this wasn't just a "ramp" for most of the cast .. AGAIN i trully hope they all get great gigs in the future .. especially the leading couple who from my opinion are both very talented and have the best`on`screen chemistry i ever seen on a TV show .. but if you want to keep it real you have to see that chances of them making it big are not that likely.
Magnus 1 more question .. wich actor's career was slowed down by CHUCK? :) i'm really curious what's your point of view :P :D

    ReplyDelete
  152. I don't think you understand... season 5 IS it. There will be no season 6. It will not be cancelled. It will end as per the agreement with WB. So, CHUCK fans should be happy about that and stop fantasizing about a full season or more than five. This is the most desirable way to go out.

    ReplyDelete
  153. i am rading many comments of people thinking that sarah is gonna die... well thats ridiculus and even if its is real then farewell chuck

    ReplyDelete
  154. I am so happy! 13 episodes final season is perfect. We came so close to not even getting a S5, the fans should just sit back, be happy and enjoy and stop stressing.

Plus now that the writers know it's the final season they can plan accordingly...no excuses. That was always my worry the writers not being able to deliver an ending, knowing it really was the end.

This is the best news ever. 13 episodes and final. I don't even need 22. This is enough.

    - Jess

    ReplyDelete
  155. Agreed, Jess. This is the perfect way to go. No need for more than 13. Tell the story you want to tell and get out with your head held high, never having been cancelled.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Agreed. Now I can watch the finale without worrying about if this is the last episode of Chuck or not.

    ReplyDelete
  157. I think for next season instead of having another big bad . They should do more stand alone eps with an underlying theme of something bigger going on . Oh , and more SEXY TIME :)

    ReplyDelete
  158. why does everything have to be with a mystery and a conspiracy? the fact is that the show got another season and will end smoothly. we dont care if it was saved by Nbc's or WB's magnanimity. and fyi people on tv dont save shows when they have nothing to earn. you are very wrong if you believe that and have no knowledge of tv events.

    ReplyDelete
  159. FYI, if you message me on Twitter to join you in your fight for a full 5th or even a 6th, I am automatically putting you on block... and then I will go to your Twitter account and look up everyone you follow and put them on block too JUST IN CASE!

    ReplyDelete
  160. I just hope they stick to the deal. If they say 13 and end, that should be it. If they are considering a back nine, then right now just say 22 or come up with a compromise and say 18 eps or something...don't add the back nine half way through the season as that would defeat the purpose (as the writers would have planned for only 13).

But either way, I actually think 13 is still the best option and theyc an leave with their head held high like it's been stated.
    - Jess

    ReplyDelete
  161. WB is not going to take any more loss on CHUCK so unless NBC pays full price for production, it is 13 and done.

    ReplyDelete
  162. "5 seasons was always the perfect way to go out and now we do."
I remember you saying a long time ago that that would be the perfect number of seasons. also:

"so strong that NBC quacked in its booties every year at the fear of cancelling it"

quack: 'the characteristic harsh sound made by a duck'
    quake: 'shake or tremble'

    ReplyDelete
  163. Oh and I am a big proponent of doing a season of stand alone episodes. Then close out with the final three as serialized. That is probably not what they are going to do... but I would like it if they did.

    AND MORE SEX!

    ReplyDelete
  164. Well that's good to know, thanks.

So why are people campaigning for more? Just count your blessings peeps and enjoy what's left.
    - Jess

    ReplyDelete
  165. LOL! I typed quacked? Awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Let me chime in with the, MORE SEX please! LOL.

Seriously though, just give us quality episodes doing what Chuck does best...mixing comedy, action, spy, romance...and yes SEX. Or at least have them do more then just peck.

    - Jess

    ReplyDelete
  167. With them knowing this is the final season, Chuck and Sarah need to decide to start a family... which will require LOTS OF SEX!

    ReplyDelete
  168. i get a feeling that fans worldwide want to porn up chuck =)) (that's a good thing :D)

    ReplyDelete
  169. "Oh and I am a big proponent of doing a season of stand alone episodes. Then close out with the final three as serialized. That is probably not what they are going to do... but I would like it if they did.

    AND MORE SEX!"

Please tell that to everyone, who MIGHT have a chance to pass that on to Fedak or Schwartz. That would just be awesome on all counts.

I think they should just let you be some kind of consultant or something for the last season. ;D

Seriously, 9 episodes of sexy stand alone goodness and a nice three parter for a proper high stakes ending sounds so so fantastic.

And NBC does have a bird in their logo, so maybe they do quack in their boots. ;P

    ReplyDelete
  170. I think this @wegiveachuck guy or gal is crazy....

I see the series finale ending on Sarah telling Chuck she's pregnant or something like that. Fedak will make us scream.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Based on what happens in the finale... well, in the cliffhanger, I don't know if they are aiming for a more stand alone season 5. Seems like they want to do an even more serialized one. I guess anything can change, or they can write it differently than what I think they will do, but I think I know what they are going to do and it requires serialized story telling.

    ReplyDelete
  172. 9+3=12 lol. i cant believe people want that. ok. what exactly do u mean by these stand alone episodes?

    ReplyDelete
  173. Well, I figure 5.01 will deal with what happened in 4.24 so you have to treat it as a more serialized element of the story. So, 9 episodes of stand alone and then the final three being more serialized. That is 13 episodes.

And by stand alone, I mean more episodes that can exist in any order outside of the larger story. In other words, someone could drop in on an episode and not feel totally lost because they missed the previous, or previous three. It usually results in tighter writing.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Is that good or bad?
I mean is there a room for sexy time or only missions?

    nena

    ReplyDelete
  175. "I think this @wegiveachuck guy or gal is crazy...."

    Why?

    ReplyDelete
  176. Quack in their boots, sound kinda dirty :)

    ReplyDelete
  177. Oh, yeah I missed an episode. Well, the first one is always kind of a set up for the the season, I guess.

But with the cliffhanger possibly leading to a serialized story there probably won´t be anything close to 9 or 10 stand alones, anyway. Too bad.

You need to get Fedak to listen to you, DR, so that I can get what I want. ;)

I guess it´s too early to worry about the way the cliffhanger sets up the last season, especially without knowing what it is, but I can´t wait to read your take on it after it has aired.

    ReplyDelete
  178. oh. i get it... like the episodes after 13 in season 4 right?

    ReplyDelete
  179. Fedak does listen to me... it is obvious!

Also, I saved CHUCK all by myself.

    ReplyDelete
  180. "I think this @wegiveachuck guy or gal is crazy...."

    Why?

It just seems more and more like the Twitter campaign was a waste of time. Some of the advertisers that he/she saw were not the ones that were I saw in my market. So, it's like you said on you podcast. The stuff with the Subway campaign was a more focused effort and this Twitter thing was more like spraying little shots all over the place...

I guess it's great to get more buzz out there for our beloved Chuck. I don't know.... I'm new to this anyway. I do like what you say and appreciate the podcast.

    ReplyDelete
  181. "Fedak does listen to me... it is obvious!

Also, I saved CHUCK all by myself."

    LOL

I will completely believe that and tell that to anyone who will listen, if you make that awesome structure of 5x01 + 9 times sexy stand alone fun + amazing high stakes 3 ep ending happening.

    ReplyDelete
  182. So glad Chuck is on NBC.... Look at what ABC did today....

    ReplyDelete
  183. Could you imagine 9 episodes like seduction impossible with SEXY TIMES thrown in to the mix ? That would be awesome !!

    ReplyDelete
  184. i didnt watch any teaser or read any spoiler about the last episode. i just want to know something... is it going to be bad? i mean. will someone be missing or having a serious <> that is gonna f... my summer?

    ReplyDelete
  185. I don't think @WeGiveAChuck is crazy. But they are obviously very invested in giving the perception of fans doing something to save the show. Whether it is genuine or an attempt to take credit, I don't know. At least I don't think I have ever seen them try to take credit for saving the show like Grey (Gray?) Jones or ChuckTV have. So, I give them credit for that.

But was that campaign a total waste of time? Maybe not a total waste of time... but mostly a waste of time. What bothers me about it is that it, and people who work on the show and some bloggers, have given people the impression they HAD TO do it to save the show.

I am bothered by people taking advantage of other people just to forward a delusion of grandeur. I would rather fans ENJOY the show they LOVE instead of feel like it is a job. It isn't your job and you aren't saving it. So, just watch the show... and do those RewardTV things the next day and tweet the advertisers on your own time... and buy the products. That was the way to help. The way it was done sucked the fun out of the show for a lot of people.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Chuck XXX parody...

hmm.. theres definitely some potential there.

    ReplyDelete
  187. One more season, yay!

13 episodes and then done sounds like a victory in my book. Actually I think it's the perfect way to go.

I'm all for more standalone episodes.

    More sexy times!!!
    http://act.ly/3m0

    ReplyDelete
  188. The next episode is going to be emotionally satisfying, 6star.

Eddie, right?! They dumped just about everything.

    ReplyDelete
  189. @eddie- abc today, fox earlier this week. yes, chuck has been lucky its entire ride to be on NBC. Might it have had higher ratings on another network? possibly. But those ratings probably still wouldve been bubble-worthy for that network and would have been far easier to cut.

    ReplyDelete
  190. nbc ruined other good shows as well. like e-ring etc. so chuck is just lucky to be chuck. not to be on nbc

    ReplyDelete
  191. u have to admit it was a great show.

    ReplyDelete
  192. Man... e-ring. Forgot about that one. It wasnt bad, while it lasted.

    ReplyDelete
  193. No, I really don't have to admit any such thing.

And it was given a fair chance by NBC but failed to gain ratings. 2005 was a very different time in television than 2009 and on.

    ReplyDelete
  194. What ? you don't know about E-ring ? =)))))))))))))) wtf is E-ring ?:))
p.s. Chuck fans are like crazy .. now they are starting petitions to Schwartz for more C/S sexy time .. =))))))))))))))
If we can't bring season6 at least we can bring a more spicy sex life for our lead characters right ? =))))))))))
    I LOVE THIS fandom !!!!!!! :))

    ReplyDelete
  195. NO MORE PETITIONS!

Though, I do support this one. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  196. so i guess your over the cheating phase ?:)) or you still want beefcakes to sex`up things with Sarah ? =))

    ReplyDelete
  197. I was probably kidding about the cheating. :)
