  1. OMG!!!!!! Sooooo close to giving Sarah a ring! Can agent Walker actually kill Casey?????

  2. Dear all knowing Chuck spoiler man,
Will Chuck and Sarah's relationship be effected or a visible change when Ellie and Devon's baby is born? Also, will Sarah be effected by it in anyway? By the way great podcasts and blog!

  3. Great episode. Some of those spoilers make sense now. I love how you make them vague but accurate.

  4. Did Zach actually do all those fighting scenes? I mean with his shirt off you can tell that he has been working out but that jump round house was awesome! Magnus you asked zach to work on his fight skills after season 3 it seams he has and is awesome! Oh and he is totally gorgeous, hot, smoking, I am in love!

  5. I thought of something in season 2 Perseus said that there was a team that made the intersect. So will there be any missions trying to find the rest of the team that made the intersect?

PS it was in episode 16 Chuck vs The Lethal Weapon

  6. Since Casey brings her name up again tonight for the first time in a long while and Alex is in the next few episodes including some "family bonding" in 4x13, any word from TPTB whether Kathleen might show up?

    Cor

    ReplyDelete
  7. Magnus, are they ever going to tie Fulcrum and the Ring to Volkoff somehow? Is that what is meant by a "Tron poster" moment?

    -Jon

    ReplyDelete
  8. I wouldn't count on seeing Kathleen anytime soon, Cor. TPTB are too busy doing things like deepening the Greta mythology, finding 80s has beens to serve as guest stars, and coming up with hysterical ways to feature Baby Awesome in the latter half of the season! Aren't you glad they abandoned the Casey/Alex/Kathleen storyline? God knows that Adam was getting too much screentime.

  9. Thank you for all your work and patience.

Did I miss Sarah's surprise revenge on Morgan in vs. the Balcony, or is that yet to come in a future episode?

Will MamaB believe that Sarah is a double agent, or will she help Sarah keep her cover long enough to take down Volkoff? Part of me is still hoping MamaB turns out to be on the darker shade of gray...but considering this is Chuck, I'm guessing she'll be a good guy.

  11. Hello Dear Dr.
My question is : In the 4.12 promo How much they ruined the next episode. ? :)

    ReplyDelete
  12. Magnus,

So after all this talk of people going crazy and such from 411, I have only one thing to say: THAT. WAS. AWESOME. I imagine the next 2 episodes, which I'm assuming will conclude this arc, will just build on the awesome.

Bring on psycho Sarah next week. Chuck needs to see that side of her at some point anyway, and being Chuck, he'll get past it soon enough. I do wonder how far she's going to take it. As in, could she actually go as far as trying to kill Casey for real to establish her cover and just rely on him being able to take care of himself. I'll bet this is the source of the emotional Sarah/Casey scene you mentioned.

I've been staying away from most online discussion of Chuck recently, because a lot if it is incredibly stupid/irritating. Are people actually freaking out over this? Isn't it clear that she's doing what she's doing out of some combination of love for Chuck and a sense of duty?

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think her surprise revenge was surprising him in the office.

I think Mama B will see right through Sarah being there...or Sarah will tell her.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oh mistery of misery. Several questions?
Why did they make the evil Sarah look sweet? they should have used darker makeup to make her more sinister. In the Promo, Why didnt Casey bounce when he hit the ground. Since they are killing Casey off they should have had him land on his head making his teeth go through the back of his head, not a good way to go. Wouldnt it be an epic battle to watch Mama B and Volkoff kill each other off or are they going to mess with Chuck and Sarah by making Chuck watch while Sarah kills Mama B.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well, that was a good episode. I kept wondering how they were going to stop the proposal after Sarah 'took over' the sub mission. Loved that it was Sarah that slipped the Ring into Chuck's pocket with Morgan and Casey quarterbacking from Castle. I really was starting to wonder how at that point then they arrested Sarah, awesome.

Only one question, is the first meeting between Sarah and Mama B as tense as I hope it's going to be while they try to figure out if they can work and trust each other.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Actually, Cor, I think I'm done with the show. It's turned into a dull and annoying soap opera, and I don't see it improving anytime soon. Sorry to be such a killjoy, but it bothers me that a show I once liked has taken a turn for the worst.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Good riddance! Can you take that AV Club idiot with you? Thanks!

  18. Dear DR,

Will Chuck be heading back to the couch again grasping his jar of cheese balls (pink slip) spending weeks lamenting the loss of his great love....sarah (Giant Blonde Shemale) Walker (while growing a funky beard)......or is he going to go all Tony Jaa looking for her! Which is it Magnus?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeah I read his review and he gave it a "D", WTF! I mean what is his problem! If I ever met him.....I would tell him he has no taste. I did like what Sepinwall said about chuck being smooth and then spaz, we can never lose our chuck!

  20. AMAZING episode!
you are genius!!! The way you give us the spoilers and how they executed in the episode was awesome! Thank you thank you!
Keep going please you made the whole episode even better!!!

As for the Crazy Shippers "Proposal or not Sarah will always be with Chuck no matter what"

  21. Dear DR,
Thank you again for the spiolers and teasers.

Can you give us any new ones for ep4.15 C vs t CAT SQUAD? Is this a Sarah back story?

    TS

    ReplyDelete
  22. Fedak and Schwartz said in sepinwall/Fienberg's podcast that the cat squad is the sarah equivilant of casey's couch lock. So I guess we will see sarah and her team and I suppose in chuck tradition they or some of the members will be now baddies......

    ReplyDelete
  23. Just had a thought - The spoiler where Chuck is horrified at how easily Sarah seduces her mark. What if her mark is Volkoff and the seduction isn't a sexual one, but merely gaining his trust and confidence. Chuck looked pretty horrified in that promo where Sarah throws Casey off the building.

    ReplyDelete
  24. BTW, you were right DR in that some crazy shippers are already freaking out. You should see some of the discussion over on the ChuckThis blog. Some of it is actually pretty amusing. And some makes me scratch my head and wonder if we are actually watching the same show....

    ReplyDelete
  25. Paul I think "Get a date", is a song I heard today by "stop living vicariously through a tv character" made in "2011"....I also saw chuckthisblog and there are only 4 people who continue along the same line and they are the same 4 who trail the same line across all blog posts...crazy shippers! but in truth it was a good reason to prospone the proposal....I am happy, but then again I have a girlfriend...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wow. What a great episode! I just can't believe that people don't like it and are freaking out.
If that's the case, what will happen next week?

Thanks for the teasers, caught quite a few in the episode. No questions today, except can you make the week go faster?

    ReplyDelete
  27. "No flaming, baiting, trolling, expletives, or racism allowed in the comments section. AND NO MORE STUPID COMMENTS ABOUT SEASON 3!" LOL!!!

    Next episode looks great!

Does Sarah know the other members of the Cat Squad (besides Carina)? Did they work together?

Will Sarah talk a bit more about her family in the future episodes?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Dear DR,
If you had a dollar for every crazy shipper, complaint about the C/S proposal being too slow, or person complaining about s3, just *how* rich would you be by now?

  30. By the way along with the av club guy, the guy at spoilertv.com who reports the ratings (chuck got a 3.8/6, I do not know what that means) should also be punched in the mouth. Sorry but that guy has been saying for like 4 years now that nbc should cancel chuck, get a life dude!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I am told it is a 2.0. Finals will be late, so we will see where it ends up later.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I read a couple of the AV club reviews a while ago and quickly stopped. Whoever that person is seems to be watching an alternate universe version of Chuck. If a reviewer didn't enjoy this episode of Chuck (a great episode in a very strong season), what exactly do they like ?!

    SpyTV

    ReplyDelete
  33. 2.0, well that is a good start especially after a really long break! I think you and other people (correctly stated) said that a break is not always good for chuck so if we can build or maintain that is something positive.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Since you said the proposal was delayed when they got the back 11-order...that almost proposal, was it originally planned to work out? (I mean with the CIA extraction team arriving a few seconds later)

  35. Hey Magnus, changed my mind - I do have a question:
You frequently talk about execution and have said that the scripts for 4.11 thru .13 look great but you haven't seen how it was shot or edited - it's all in the execution. So now the question - on a scale of 1 - 10 with 10 being the highest grade, how do you rate the execution of 4.11?

Curious, cause after only one viewing, I give it a 9.5.
    Thanks!

  37. Here is the link and what Chuck got in the ratings.
    http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/01/tv-ratings-harrys-law-starts-well-for-nbc-but-cbs-tops-monday.html

    NBC: "Chuck" (5.9 million, 3.3/5)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Greg, household share is the most pointless reported rating. It got a 2.0 18/49 and that is all that matters.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Will the explanation about, how will Volkoff buy that Sarah is a double agent be remotely plausible? Because right now it's a bit far fetched, especially since Volkoff knows Sarah is Chuck's girlfriend.

    ReplyDelete
  40. You've teased so much on the next few episodes, I really don't have any more questions about them. Based on what they showed in the promo, Chuck has plenty of reason to go badass on Volkoff. Bring it on.

I'm glad the preliminary ratings came in at a 2.0-2.1. Next 2 weekw, HIMYM is repeats. Plus, House will be replaced by the lower rated Human Target when 413 airs.

I'm feeling unusually positive that with some awesome episodes ahead, the ratings could actually go up a little.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Dear DR,

Did the hawt action with Sarah you keep teasing about get cut or is it yet to come?

    TS

    ReplyDelete
  42. I thought that Sarah sending Casey out a window was a set up, but she looks like she's about to cry when she delivers the final blow. Does Casey survive because that's the plan, or because someone/something aids in his rescue? If Sarah reluctantly tries to kill him, does that act have an effect on the Colonel's storyline in 4.16?

    Alice

  43. J asks ...

Can u give us a clue about how much time is supposed to have passed between 4.11 and 4.12 ?

Do you think any show on tv does better product placement than Chuck ? Tide to go sticks FTW !! lol

  44. Hola Amigo - Last night was everything you said it would be!!! REALLY loved the conversation between Sarah and Chuck at the restaurant.
If I'm not mistaken - that's the first time that Sarah has spoken about her mother!
Question: What is the most important or most interesting part of Sarah's background story that we'll learn in the coming weeks?
Cheers - the Gringo Chuck Fan

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh WOW, what an awesome episode "Chuck Vs. the Balcony" was. I loved every second of it.

And the subplot with Lester in love was hilarious. Too bad for Lester that she rejected him. He and Jeff are STILL practically joined at the hip. LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Are there any big surprises or changes coming up for Chuck in the next two episodes? I would really love to see him step up his spy game and go after Volkoff on his own.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I really didn't want to be the "multiple poster" before the podcast, but I couldn't help noticing that most of the teaser spoilers that you posted in December were in last nights episode. The only one left - aside from the guest star exclusives - are:
    # Chuck is horrified by how easily Sarah seduces her mark.
    # A former member of Team B tries to kill a current member of Team B.
    # Sarah attacks Chuck with passion.
The promo points to these being in the next episode. Even a lot of the stuff in your latest Dear DR seems to be slated for 4.12.
So, what can you tease us with about how badass Chuck is going to be - and what the fallout is going to be when it's over?
Look forward to listening tomorrow on my drive to Toms River.

  48. Dear DR,

"Sarah gets her surprise revenge on the bearded one. "

Has this happen in 4.11 or is there a bigger one coming up?

    ReplyDelete
  49. J asks ..

By the time this is posted someone may have already asked this ...

Now that the NBCU/COMCAST deal is completed . Good or bad outlook for the future of Chuck ?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hey, I'm a HUGE Chuck fan, but am I the only one who thinks this was the worse episode they've done so far? I'm not saying it didn't have some good parts. However, the whole Lester story was just plain LAME. Also, the whole episode seemed like it had been cobbled together at the last minute; it just jumped back and forth with no segways. I love the show, but I hope the next episode is better!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I second Andy's and PeterOinNJ's questions. Are we allowed to do that? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Chuck Bartowski deserves some kind of award for most failed proposal attempts by one man to the same woman, I think it's up to 6 including the one from 409. And AVclub can take a long walk off a short cliff.

  53. DR.
I wanted ask this question since the season started.
There will be any FIST FIGHT between Chuck and Sarah ? XD. You knwo Chuck flash on kung fu and Sarah wel Sarah is Sarah. I' mean now Sarah is evil AGENT.
I know its wierd question :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yes, oh Great and Wonderful Magnus, wizard of Spoilers...tell us more about Chuck being badass, and what new improvements or surprises the newly-restored Intersect has! Or at least give us a few hints...

  55. PODCAST ABOUT TO BE RECORDED! NO MORE QUESTIONS.. until it is done and then I won't answer. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Great podcast. That version of "Strong Enough" has always been my favorite and the song itself is very appropriate for what is to come.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hey- I just wanted to say thanks for the podcast! Your review of the episode was spot on. I could not believe all the morons who thought that somehow Sarah would have interrupted her OWN freakin proposal, that she basically orchestrated, by having HERSELF arrested as a traitor at the last possible second. The logic of that is impossible to even fathom. You guys hit all the high notes and it was really nice after reading the nonsense Seig Heisler posted over at AV Club to hear a credible review of this episode.

    -OPD

    ReplyDelete
  58. If you're still willing to answer questions, here's one of mine: Since it sounds as though Casey's accident is not part of a plan, will his relationship with Sarah suffer for a good part of the season? Or will it be one of those issues that is resolved within an episode or two? They will obviously continue working together, but will Sarah's actions damage their friendship? Thanks for all the info.!

    Alice

    ReplyDelete
  59. Relax, the Powers that Be AREN'T going to kill Casey. Adam Baldwin fans would practically go ballistic if they did.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Ok, I understand now that my last question about Badass Chuck was basically unanswerable because answering it might give too much of the plot away. Sorry about that.

And I hope Chuck as a character would become even more badass and awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  61. So I am not the only one that HATED the ring box. It was just soooo tacky and ugly...it beats the bad green screen. It was indeed a "little red treasure chest". Awful.

Are they trying to have some kind of aesthetical débâcle in each episode? 4x11: ring box; 4x12: bad wig. I'm afraid.

    ReplyDelete
  62. No i ven't seen the next episode, that is why i asked about that, i know it's not procedural, but i also will be more happy with the story, if the whole thing about Sarah going undercover will have decent logical foundations. I just want them to sell it well and the show has mixed records about such stuff.

I posted it also because i read some reviewers who actually bitch about the thing, saying there is no way in hell Volkoff will buy that Sarah changed sides and they don't like the story, because Volkoff is not that stupid to buy it even with MamaB selling it.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Harku, I overreacted to your question purely for comedic effect. Melwicker, no reason to apologize. Alice, you will see that something eventually transpires between those two related to that issue.

    ReplyDelete
  64. On a side note, I still don't get why people are complaining about 4.11. I'm a shipper, but I loved the episode. A little frustrated, yes, but I loved the ep. Certainly one of the best episodes in the season.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I have finally put my finger on why I love this season so much, it is because they have given yvonne a lot more comedic material to work with! I mean her scene with josh in morgans office was gold and she looked genuinely to be having a lot of fun with the material they have given her. Her adorable delievery of lets make this proposal happen for chucks sake as well as mine was fantastic and as I said yvonne seems to be having a great time. Magnus does the season continue in this vein after 4.13 or are they going to change it up and go back to the darkness and angst of seasons previous?

    ReplyDelete
  66. There is a real duality in reaction to this episode. On one hand we have lot of reviewers/vierwers very positive to it, on the other hand i've seen quite few reviewers/viewers that absolutely HATE this episode (and not only the guy from AVClub). I don't quite get why, as i usually disagree with them, but their usual reasons are :
    - mission completly stupid/silly,
    - Chuck acting like a moron, doing relationship stuff during missions or/and is too neurotic,
    - Sarah going undercover for Volkoff is contrievied and doesn't make much sense.

So what's your opinion why some ppl reacted so negatively to this episode?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Yeah Magnus, I knew you were talking about 4.12 when you told us a certain group would go crazy. It really surprised me that there was such an up roar over 4.11. Also agree that although Yvonne's performance in 4.09 was great, this one was better.

So after the podcast I'm more and more curious about what happens next episode. Sarah's got to be the old her if she has any hope of surviving - so to me that means hard, cruel, no emotions, no feelings - feelings will get you killed. I can see her denouncing Chuck in front of Volkoff before pushing Casey off the building - telling him he was no more than a mark, that she was using him. That would certainly drive people over the edge.
Now I did not see the whole Casey thing not being part of a plan coming. That indeed could lead up to the best Sarah/John moment you mentioned.

The thing that keeps going around in my head though is - what price is Chuck or Chuck & Sarah going to pay for this? Your teasers have laid the foundation of some pretty intense action, and the **ahem** official source spoilers only serve to ramp up the intensity. I know I have only a few days to get some of my answers, but anything else you can share would be welcome.

    ReplyDelete
  68. PeterO, I don't think I am going to spoil much more of 4.12. There have to be surprises. And unless one of the official sources spills something from 4.13, I am likely to stay away from that. So, expect info about post 4.14 episodes, unless some specific question pops up that I find could make for an interesting tease.

    ReplyDelete

@PeterOinNJ: this scenario would be truly epic if it were to happen!

I am mostly curious about the Casey part and how it all turns out between him and Sarah.

@Magnus: can you tell us if Chuck seeing Sarah act with such an extreme ruthlessness will somehow affect emotionally him to the point of delaying the proposal in order for him to come to terms with it all?

Of course I know the proposal will be delayed due to Sarah's involvement with Volkoff Ind., but what I mean to focus on is if after Sarah comes home (we all know she eventually will) Chuck will need some time to sort his feelings out. Not that he wouldn't love her anymore...no, just take more time to propose in order for things to go "back to normal".

    ReplyDelete
  70. Chuck is not going to be dancing for joy over what Sarah does... and I think the anger people wasted on 4.11 will be more understandable in the next episode. Though, not in an irrational "I want to punch the writers in the face" way. I just mean from a story perspective. You are not supposed to like what she does.

    ReplyDelete
  71. YAY! It is going to be awesome! I love it when the writers go to darker places, it makes the whimsical parts of the show ever more enjoyable.

ps.: Sarah told Chuck she would go back to being her old self for a while. It is not like he hadn't been warned.

    ReplyDelete
  72. That is an interesting point Mamenmimomu, chuck has never seen Sarah as her old self, he saw her shoot Mauser point blank but that is it! So to actually watch chuck see exactly who he is going to marry, or who she used to be for a better term will be interesting. But like Mauser it will be brushed off in one episode so that is that.

    ReplyDelete
  73. **Mamemimomu** said...
"Sarah told Chuck she would go back to being her old self for a while. It is not like he hadn't been warned."

Remember poeple that Sarah USED any means and USED people to get what she wanted to complete her missions. Remember C.V.T. Beefcake? or C.V.T. Nacho Sampler?

I'm ready to hang on for dear live ... these next two episodes were designed for the season end and they should be real heart stoppers!!!

    TS

    ReplyDelete
  74. Remember that NBC tells the writers we want 13 episodes. The writers think 13 then we're done for the season or for good so they build it to a big finish.
Then about the time they are shooting episode 10 NBC order more episodes so the writers start over and build up to another big finish.

This cycle has happened for season 2 and 3 and now 4

    TS

  75. Magnus,

Of the teasers/spoilers from December, am I correct to guess that:

4.12 Chuck is horrified by how easily Sarah seduces her mark.
    and
4.13 Sarah attacks Chuck with passion.

    TS

    ReplyDelete
  76. Synopsis: Chuck worries that she may be getting in too deep.
Magnus: You are not supposed to like what she does.
PeterOinNJ: Chuck not only has to rescue Sarah & Mom from Volkoff, he has to rescue Sarah from herself.
    Again.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Sarah doesn't need saving.

TS, nope. Seduction is in... Seduction Impossible.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Magnus,
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question, and for the info from the powers-that-not-be!

Dangerous, impulsive "wild card" Sarah is good stuff. Bring it on. The nutters are always going to find some reason to judge her for not settling down to be a perfect girlfriend "worthy" of Chuck. She glanced at another guy! She didn't validate his feelings!

Now, (apparently?) fully intending to kill her partner to get the job done? A fall like that doesn't look like some deliberate faked death. That's compelling stuff with implications for Chuck/Sarah as well as Casey/Sarah. Bring it on. Let the haters howl.

    Cor

    ReplyDelete
  79. "Let the haters howl."

    I like that.

    ReplyDelete
  80. "Sarah doesn't need saving"

So, when Chuck is a hero twice, as I believe you've said, neither time involves saving Sarah.

This isn't "Other Guy" redux, then.

    ReplyDelete
  81. And I think I said Chuck is a hero more than once.

    ReplyDelete
  82. On the topic of negative critics, if another critic that I follow tweets something like "here's my review of why I'm not liking Chuck anymore. Tell me what you think," I'm going to tweet back, "I think I have no interest in reading your review." I'm no longer reading that crap.

I'm enjoying the show and if others aren't, I couldn't care less what their reasons are.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I haven't read any critic write that in my feed... but then again, I only follow critics with actual legitimacy. I unfollowed most of the critics I used to follow during season 3.

    ReplyDelete
  84. "Sarah doesn't need saving."

Does she need forgiveness/absolution/whatever from Chuck or Casey or anyone? I'm hoping there's at least a conversation with one or both about the things she had to do while she was EvilSarah.

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  85. Okay, I may have paraphrased it to make it worse than it was:

    LouisAtTVDotCom Louis Peitzman
And here it is—I do my best to articulate why I'm no longer excited about Chuck: http://tinyurl.com/6z397to. Please weigh in. #Chuck

Needless to say, I didn't read the article.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Louis was the first person I unfollowed, actually. He is a crappy writer who must have gotten the job by sleeping his way to the bottom. Calling him a moron would be too kind.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I just unfollowed him.

More importantly, the final Nielsens are in:

Chuck 2.06, which will be rounded to a 2.1, but we'll take it.

    Cape 1.8
    Harry's Law 2.16

As many know, Chuck usually has a higher rating for men than women, but that wasn't the case on Monday. It was 2.02 for Men 18-49 and 2.11 for Women 18-49.

I know more women than men have been watching the repeats and The Golden Globes, where there were several promos skew female.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I understand falling out of love with a show. What I don't understand is the need to continue watching something you don't enjoy, then luxuriating in your disdain for said show all the while trying to draw others into the negativity. To spend so much time on something you hate seems like a horrible waste when you could just as easily find another show or anything else to love or at least enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Other positives from the final ratings:

W18-49 rating was highest of season.

"Pure live" A18-49 was highest of season(1.65), which will help the C3 rating.

  90. First of all, I want to thank you for the way you have kept and magnified everyone's interest during the long hiatus. You have an amazing sense of what to say and how to say it and what to withhold to pique the interest without giving away too much, while actually revealing meaningful information. No one else I've seen can do that.
I'm trying to fathom, based on what you've said about Sarah pushing Casey off the building not being preplanned with him, how she could do such a thing without destroying herself morally. I'm thinking that she finds herself in a situation where if she doesn't do it, he will definitely be killed, along with Sarah and everyone she cares about. So she really has no choice but to do it and hope he survives, even though he may not, and she might actually be murdering him.
Sorry for being so longwinded, but if you can't answer that question, can you at least give me your opinion as to whether you think that would justify what she does?

  91. Did I see Chuck was a 2.1 in the finals? With all the loons boycotting the show next week I guess we will get 1.2 next week.....or maybe not.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Along with letting the haters howl you can also laugh at the crazy shippers' tears of anguish. Because Sarah being "evil" means she's unworthy of Chuck! THIS WILL MEAN THE END OF CHARAH!

  93. I gotta say, the flipping out has already begun. Folks are already putting their heads in the sand and refusing to believe that Sarah could/would kill Casey if the mission called for it. IMHO, it smacks of people who are blind to who the characters ARE vs what they WANT the characters to be.

At any rate, I had an idea about the attempt on Casey's life next week. I think the Casey/Sarah moment that has been alluded to may be that when Volkoff orders Sarah to kill him to prove her loyalty, she hesitates for a second. Casey, seeing she might blow her cover, gives her the "do it" look....kinda like he did to Chuck in Fake Name. Casey, knowing he may really die for the mission and telling Sarah it's okay because he knows what's at stake would be a really HUGE thing between them....and totally within the realm of these characters.

  94. Hey Magnus,
With this Vivian girl coming on the show, are we going to be seeing a jealous Sarah in the future? We all know that Chuck is hopeless around brunettes!

Two questions Magnus. Schwartz and Fedak said on Sepinwall's podcast that 414 was going to be like Chuck vs the Honeymooners part 2, could you hint at what they meant by that. Also, you stated in the last Dear DR that there would be a moment in the next five moments where Chuck would support Sarah in some way, any hint as to when that might be?

Oh yes, and now for the mandatory praise, thank you wonderful Magnus for keeping all Chuck fans sane during the wait between episodes and I loved your latest podcast. You guys always have so much fun on the podcast compared to some podcasts on other sites (ahem...chucktv.. ahem)

  95. @Johnny, my guess is that Casey tells Sarah to "do it" to maintain her cover. He's essentially taking one for the team, just like he did in Fake Name.

    ReplyDelete
  96. If Casey told her to "do it," then no one would have an issue with it.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I see Mel from ChuckTV finally agreed that she has no clue what she is talking about and that I am the master of all CHUCK spoilers... in admitting her lie about the baby coming in 4.14.

I am often shocked when that woman speaks any truth, even when to admit she is a liar.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Just a spec on my part. But it would not be out of character for him to do so. Even if it wasn't a verbal "do it" but a nod, or something.

    ReplyDelete
  99. "If Casey told her to "do it," then no one would have an issue with it."

Well, you told us that there will be a powerful moment between the two of them, I can see why Paul comes to such a conclusion. So I doubt Casey's gonna hold a grudge for too long, if even.

  100. I give this Podcast a D+. The podcast, like other recent Chuckgamsic podcasts was very uneven, relying far too much on fabricated moments that should come easy on- what has up until Chuck Season 4- a breezy podcast.

    ReplyDelete
  101. If I am ever single I am heading to the "CHUCK" Burbank Buymore for a job, I mean even Lester can score some fine woman! I mean Morgan has got Anna, Carina and now Alex. Chuck has got Lou, Jill, Hannah and Sarah....I mean if those two can get the hottest women on this planet then I am pretty sure I can do the same! So to the Buymore it is! Oh wait it is a tv show, darn it!

Please tell us if Sarah is going to be jealous! I LOVE JEALOUS SARAH!!! I doubt Chuck would be interested in this Vivian girl, because he only looked at the other girls when he couldn't be with Sarah. But that doesn't have to stop Sarah from feeling a bit insecure, mainly after she scared the crap out of Chuck with her ruthlessness...because then comes along a beautiful brunette who needs to be saved.

Please mighty Magnus, tell us if Sarah is going to be jealous.

    Chuck 2.0
    Biggest Loser 1.9
    Cape 1.9
    Harry's Law 1.8

  104. So Casey is going to potentially bear a grudge or have a very strained relationship (eg intellectually understands but can't get over the 'betrayal' by one of his closest friends, and the best partner he ever had) with Sarah. That potentially makes sense in light of the NCS trying to recruit Casey. I imagine Sarah throwing him out of a window is going to hurt on an emotional and personal level, and make him reassess his continued involvement with Team B.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Also man, there is another seriously whiney pod cast out there about the ep I couldn't actually get through it and gave up listening. I can only imagine what their next one will be like. The AV club of podcasts.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Judy, there is no cursing on this site. The podcast is clearly labeled as having adult language. Anyway, you don't decide for me, or anyone else, what is appropriate. If Mel did to you what she did to WHC, and what she has said about the people who stopped her from continuing her war on people trying to raise money for charity, you would likely call her worse.

She earned what I called her.

    ReplyDelete
  107. In the latest promo Casey tells Sarah to throw him out the window while they are struggling.

Now if Sarah does not do that, does Volkof kill her and Chuck for trying to pull a fast one on him. It seems she is stuck between a rock and a hardplace.

The question is will this plant the seed of doubt in Chuck's mind. I sure hope not. I hope one kiss from Sarah eases all that doubt.

  109. I have been looking as well. It supposedly aired last night as part of a NBC Monday Night line up promo. I have been told by 3 separate people it was there. One person told me they tried to capture it but couldn't. My hope is airs tonight as well. We shall see if its for real or an internet hoax. BTW D.R. thanks for the teasers.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Solid podcast. I am going to throw my guess out there. At some point in the next episode it will appear to the viewer that Sarah has actually gone over to the dark side (probably after she throws Casey out the window). She will most likely also say that Chuck was just a mark further angering some fans.

    Sam

    ReplyDelete
  114. Why would or should that anger fans? I mean she wanted to say yes to marry him, she obviously comes back from undercover to see chuck and the scooby gang for some reason and gives him a passionate kiss, so based on that fans are going to get upset when she plays a role......come on get a grip she already said in a teary state that chuck and her have a real life and a future....sometimes fans just complain and to those 5 people with multiple accounts, you have been called out nobody cares about what you think! they can trace your IP addressess and know the truth, so stop wasting your time and ruining other fans logical and rational enjoyment!

    ReplyDelete
  115. She may say that but Chuck can't believe that when she climbs in Castle and makes out with him. If he does he must think she is crazy. ;-)

Come on Sarah asked Chuck to trust her and Casey told her to throw him out a window. How much angst can there be for the Chuck and Sarah romance?

    Here is the new promo.

    Rac2873

    ReplyDelete
  116. Having Sarah throw Casey out the window is not about creating "angst". It's about the show ratcheting up the stakes and showing how the situation is beginning to spiral out of control for Team B.

Chuck is going to be horrified yes, but he's also going to be horrified that Sarah is now waaaay in over her head if she was just forced to kill Casey. It's also likely what prompts Chuck to man-up and take things into his own hands to take down Volkoff.

BTW, I totally see Sarah denouncing Chuck in front of Volkoff, saying she never loved him and that she was playing him the whole time (of course we all should realilze it's only an act and part of the cover).

    ReplyDelete
  117. DR said - "If Casey told her to "do it," then no one would have an issue with it."

The promo showed just that (or something akin to it). Do I think some fans are still going to go ballistic? Yep.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Paul, I meant no one as in the characters. The fans will go nuts. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  119. I know that casey is a patriot and would do anything to sell a mission (fake name) but he landed on hard ground man! that looked like it hurt a lot, I mean John Locke fell a similar distance and was paralysed so it would be very fortunate if casey were not seriously injured and chuck seriously pissed off at Volkoff!

    ReplyDelete
  120. They're already going nuts. Half are in denial that Sarah would ever do such a thing. The rest are grasping at straws to come up with a way that the fall was planned because Sarah would never do such a thing.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Rac, thanks for posting that promo link!

I don't doubt that some people will go insane saying that this proves Sarah is unworthy of Chuck. For me, I look forward to seeing how all the members of Team B deal with Volkoff first, and with the aftermath of Casey's fall. This is high stakes stuff.

    Cor

    ReplyDelete
  122. Casey is not walking away from that fall.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I figure by 4.14 chuck and sarah cannot push casey around in a wheelchair while in Morrocco! So I guess in 4.13 casey is in a coma or hospital and they use that as a way to strengthen the grip that casey has with alex. While that happens chuck and morgan take on volkoff!

    ReplyDelete
  124. I think what is else is interesting in a good way, is that they are really making a concerted effort to stay away from anything angsty: sarah leaves for an undetermined amount of time - the promo shows her back kissing chuck, sarah tries to kill casey - the promo shows casey giving her permission. I mean wow they are reassuring the fans at every point that they will not go dark this season!

    ReplyDelete
  125. @Rac2873: Thank you very much for posting the promo!

Is it just me or are the promos kinda ruining the episode a bit? As a viewer I would have prefered being surprised by Sarah throwing Casey out of the window or by Casey telling her to do it. There are some moments that shouldn't be in promos, like "Frost is our boss". Well, that's not gonna stop me from watching. Could it be that TPTB released this scene on the second promo in order to avoid a preliminary uproar from crazy fans regarding the window throwing scene?

@Magnus: Can you tell us if Timothy Dalton will be in episodes beyond 4x13?

Ps.: does anybody else think of an Emma Peel of the 21st century when sees Sarah in the leather catsuit? :) (Try to ignore the fake plastic hair for that effect)

    ReplyDelete
  126. While promos may kill the 'surprise' for hardcore fans like us, showing something as "OMFG" as Sarah throwing Casey out the window is aimed at getting casual viewers to go "wow, I need to see what's going on".

    ReplyDelete
  127. Paul wrote: "While promos may kill the 'surprise' for hardcore fans like us, showing something as "OMFG" as Sarah throwing Casey out the window is aimed at getting casual viewers to go "wow, I need to see what's going on"."

@Paulo: You have a point there!

    ReplyDelete
  128. I was once a casual viewer of the show who watched it once in a while, but wasn't as fanatical as I am now. It was the promos towards the end of Season 2 that drew me in and moved Chuck up my viewing queue. I later found that fans think those promos gave away too much. It was what they gave away that drew me in.

  129. KING OF THE SPOILERS AND TEASERS MAGNUS,

I saw some "C.V.T.Gobbler promotional" photos.
They show Sarah with blond hair and a purple dress, tied to Chuck in what looks like a mid evil torture basement.

Is that really in the next episode 4.12 or a future episode?

    TS

    ReplyDelete
  130. From what we know about C.V.T.Gobbler:
Chuck goes under cover in a prison,
Sarah gets dressed in black leather and black hair,
    Sarah is with Volkoff,
Chuck looks on as Sarah "kills" Casey

So the photos must be from another episode.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Well that is what I was thinking too.
Magnus, do you care to comment?

I don't think anything on Friday or Saturday is going to beat Chuck's 2.0 in this demo. Sunday NBC is counter-programming against the AFC Championships with chick flick "Sex and the City". So, even though the week isn't over, I'm going to say Chuck came in 5th of all NBC shows for this demo.

Thanks for giving me a forum to publish this stuff.

    And...go Jets.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Thanks forvthe info dkd !

Though Chuck is 5th on the list of shows MEN 18/49 . It's the #1 hour long " drama" for MEN in the same category :)

    Go Steelers !

    ReplyDelete
  135. Men prefer comedy.

Very few dramas skew male. "24" was one. "The Unit" was another. Most dramas have higher ratings among women than men. L&O:SVU's rating for W18-49 was a 3.0 compared to its 1.6 for M18-49. If I ranked Chuck on the female demo, it wouldn't look so hot.

    Chuck isn't pure drama.

    I was being sarcastic :) . There aren't too many hour long comedies ( if any ). That's why I put " drama " quotations :)

  137. Every single new show for NBC is a failure. At this point, they'll probably have to renew all their incumbent shows. I strongly recommend Community for those who haven't seen it by the way(I see a lot of similarities in how it's written to Chuck), so I'm happy to see that starting to perform better as well.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Dear DR,

first of all, thanks for latest podcast.

Secondly, interesting you didn't comment whether the proposal would have happened in 4.11 if there were no back 11.

Makes me think it was planned to have them engaged by the - what would have been - season finale. You also said the proposal was postponed. Assuming I'm right on the first, they won't get engaged any time soon (at least not till 4.16, my guess). Sorry for everyone hoping for a proposal at 4.13 (not really).

Latest synopsis for 4.14 also hints I might be wright on that, plus the Sarah/Casey-issue Chuck's probably gonna have to deal with.

    ReplyDelete
  139. I cannot really comment on when the proposal would have happened until we get to the proposal so... ask me again down the line.

Rob, COMMUNITY is my new favorite show. When I saw the pilot, I knew immediately it was my next CHUCK. It hasn't disappointed. I love it. Though, it hasn't affected me on an emotional level like CHUCK has, but on a comedic level, it is one of the best shows I have ever seen.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Community is just genious! Abed rules.

Why are some of the best comedy shows (Parks and Rec, Community and even 30 Rock) struggling with ratings while stupid ones get better ratings (2 1/2 Men, Glee, S**t my dad says, Rules of engagement)? This is just so absurd...

  143. WOW !
I didn't think she would have that much time away from Volkoff. Please remember you said you would tell all about the scean if it's cut or trimmed ;)

If I would only think DUH after she tried to kill Casey (the angst I assume) Chuck would once again rethink his feelings for Sarah. You would think after C.V.T.Santa Clause Sarah being a cold-blooded killer wouldn't be a big surprise to Chuck

    TS
