  1. The best thing that resulted from this podcast, so far, is that I have now been accused of STEALING a poll from the SWFG peeps. I have never heard of this accusation on any site, ever... in my entire time on the Internet (now 20 years). STEALING a poll?! Now, since I have no desire to ever go on their site, can someone compare to the two polls to show me how I "stole" their poll idea for Mamma B? Thanks.

Granted, if you just listen to the podcast you will know I simply copied the names suggested by the people on it and put them on the poll. :)

  4. NO MORE SHAW!!!!! In any shape, form , or fashion!!! Sarah's dad for the Chuck/Sarah wedding! Ellie and Devon as parents! All about family, love Casey as a dad too.

  5. Well, hopefully they don't listen to you. I like Shaw as a villain and the show needs a villain who is a major threat.

  6. Not sure about Chuck's mom but for Sarah's sister, ( If she does have one ) I think Julia Stiles would be perfect.

  7. I'm actually a little suprised how negative you are toward those first 13, considering how high most of the scores for the episodes were during those episodes and some of those you weren't as high about at first (Angel of Death, Fake Name), you said you like them far more upon rewatch. So only really Mask and maybe to lesser extent American Hero weren't so good for you.

And while i agree with you that Mask was really weak episode, with rushed storylines and some weird character turns, i don't think actors did anything particulary wrong in that episode. So your comment about YS i found a bit weird, as i didn't find anything wrong with her performance in this one, since even Fedak in the Sepinwall interview said Sarah wasn't in the same place emotionally as Chuck with Hannah + i don't think we were suppose to believe Sarah was all that much into Shaw and in Fake Name she only moved on because she thought Chuck did.

  8. Kisku, I often laugh at how people interpret things said on the podcast. It is always THE MOST NEGATIVE element that is extracted from it. I was being negative about how they sucked the LOVE out of CHUCK in those first 13. While I loved some of the episodes and liked most, only a third were the kind of episodes that made me fall in love with the show. Whereas I had that feeling every week during the previous season. Those back six brought me back to that point.

  9. Ofc it's the most negative element or at least the element listner/reader doesn't agree with and it stick out for that person that gets commented. If you agree with other elements, there is nothing to discuss, so what's the point in posting. And i didn't quite get by what you meant by "love" before.

Btw last season that "love" was there even during episodes like Sensei, 3D, Beefcake or Broken Heart?

  10. Agreed on Shaw, Magnus. Evil Shaw Rocks! Please showrunners, bring back Daniel Shaw for at least 2 eps. Thanks! :D

  11. Not 3D. Which is why I disliked it so much. Sensei... not sure. I really don't watch it much. Broken Heart... no doubt.

  13. While I liked most of the season, especially for character development, I think it could have been much better. Still puzzled by why they thought the name reveal and LI's where good ideas. I'm really glad we got the back six, and I wish it could have been the other way around (the first 13 lasting for 6 episodes).

  14. Hi Magnus,

I agree with you that the whole shaw arc or story sucked the fun and life out of chuck, I just hope that the powers that be listen to your podcast and just go out for all things that make chuck great in season 4, the back 6 story lines mixed with season 1 and 2. I think they will do a better job they did not know when they were writing the season that it would turn out like this but now they know what fans like and do not like and I am looking forward to them putting everything they have in their head for this season and going for broke. And who knows fans may come back if like you said they write episodes like they did in the back 6 and people re-fall in love with the show, it would be a great way for them to go out.

  17. Hi Magnus,

Lets hope josh swartz does not start out by saying something tragic happens between chuck and sarah but it will be good, because, lol, it was not good, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  18. It was pretty awesome on paper... but then they shot it and edited it and it was silly.

    ReplyDelete
  19. So, what was it like on paper, what made it unawesome?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think on paper if they could have had sarah have a relationship that kind of matched even a little the chemistry that chuck and hannah had then it would have made the whole wait even better, but because shaw was so bad and his whole arc when he was a good guy was so bad that it just made the excecution just so terrible. But you know what to be fair I have always found that whenever chuck has a relationship with someone else other then sarah he does have a genuine chemistry with other girls, lou, hannah and even jill was cute and as the audience you could feel it, but with sarah even when she has chemistry like with cole or bryce it still does feel off, I do not know why that is.

  21. While I agree that the Shaw thing didn't work, I fail to see how it could have been awesome. Previous PLI/LI's I had no problem with, and never understood why people where so mad about it. This time I don't see what it brought to the story, other than stalling putting them together. They didn't need them to tell the story, and then people would maybe have reacted a little better.

    ReplyDelete
  22. For me the first 13 episodes worked in the sense that I was so sick of the angst that putting C/S together in the Other guy was a good and emotional pay-out. I agree with telling a story moving the characters forward watching them grow, but on the same time use stand alone missions as a springboard to tell the story. That way the casual viewers will be satisfied and entertained with the missions and humor and the die hard fans will become invested and analyze the story and be entertained by the missions. after rewatching season 1&2 the Buy-More was important to the story, Season 3 the story was important but I think did not work, so I wonder what they will do without the Buy-More

  23. Hi Magnus,

I heard your podcast about getting morgan into a 4 way love relationship, with hannah, carina and alex. I think that would be hillarious, I also think that the running gag could be everytime chuck sees morgan with one of the girls he either taps his governor or puts it to his ear to see if it works or pinches himself to see if he is awake or checks his pulse to see if he is still alive that would be great comedy, lol.

  24. Hi Magnus, a thought,

If we are being honest to this date even though chuck and sarah are perfect together, the back six moments between the two were wonderful and sweet and tender. But to this day sarah still has not opened up about who she really was, she has not told chuck to his face her first, middle or last name he overheard from a distance the first two. She also lets chuck think that she is perfect and never corrects him to how flawed she used to be. Now maybe that is the point in that she could tell shaw or carina who she is because she does not mind showing that side of herself to them because she does not care what they ultimately think but because she loves chuck she only wants him to see the best in her and does not want to ruin the image he has of her. Maybe in season 4 she will open up about who she really is and take a leap of faith that chuck will love her for her being her and take the risk, but I am to this day suprised that shippers are shippers (not that they should not be, chuck and sarah are beautiful) when sarah really holds everything inside and chuck is the one who lays his heart out on the table. I know that chuck in cougars said it does not matter who you were because I like/love you for who you are but still it is always a one sided relationship in terms of knowledge and I suppose chuck just let her off the hook.

  25. I still don't get the intentions of the middle arc (episode 7-12) and what they did to the two main characters, How they made Sarah a plot device to create drama more than anything.

They did a poor job of explaining Shara's actions. How she suddenly lost all fate in Chuck, and the opposite to Shaw. How she was swept off her feet by him and no matter what Shaw acted like a moron, she still came running back to him. She also shared more of her past to Shaw than she ever have with Chuck.

  26. I was just watching the mothers day episode in season 1 and thought that they should do another mothers day episode and thats the day that chuck and sarah can meet chucks mother.

  27. I know what they were trying to do with the 7-12 arc but it just did not work because they bailed out on the more believable Chuck and Hannah relationship so quickly while sticking with the horrendous Shaw and Sarah relationship. I know WHY they did it but the HOW is the big failure. Especially since they were afraid to even admit what type of relationship Shaw and Sarah had until after Chuck and Sarah were together.

That is an epic cop-out. Thankfully, they are unlikely to ever do it again.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Does Chuck really know her middle name or was that (tron poster) just a slip up?

    ReplyDelete
  29. If it is in the episode, then he knows. I just think they forgot that he was 20 feet away when she said it.

    ReplyDelete
  30. But the Lisa on the back of the Tron Poster ended with a question mark and right below it was is Lisa real? However if Chuck really wants to know her real name, all he has to do is open the Spy Will Sarah gave him at the end of " The Living Dead" "BJ"

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well in that case, then I'm even more confused as to why certain people reacted the way they did after the name reveal in Fake Name. Chuck apparently got what he asked for, so if the first name was that important to him and had he decided to persue the issue, he would have gotten the answer for that as well.

  32. I am going to start rejecting anonymous comments if they are not signed with at least an initial so I can reference it quickly.

"then I'm even more confused as to why certain people reacted the way they did after the name reveal in Fake Name. Chuck apparently got what he asked for, so if the first name was that important to him and had he decided to persue the issue, he would have gotten the answer for that as well."

This makes no sense whatsoever. Sarah was not giving out real information about herself at the drop of a hat. Plus, and I know this is going to shock you but... THIS IS A TV SHOW. It is not real life. So, the characters don't just decide things on their own. As written, Chuck somehow thought he knew Sarah's middle name, even if it was impossible for him to hear it. Then, he overheard her give out her first name to Shaw. How do you reason that this is somehow NOT A PROBLEM because he overheard her middle name? That is the definition of a non sequitur. Because A + B = C then W must = Z - porcupine? What?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yes it was a cop-out. But as I got the story (I might be wrong): The fact that the Shaw character was a miserable failure and it was kinda a disfavor to the Sarah character and showing what she was going through to put her with him. Her distraught at Chuck changing (and loosing everything that is important to her) kinda looses its effect when she's turning to the guy she is afraid of Chuck becoming. Though she didn't have that many people to turn to anyway.

As much as I didn't like Shaw as good guy/LI and loved him as a villain I don't see much difference in how he was portrayed, just that his priorities was shifted. How much that was to the writing or to the actor I don't know.

It might have been better to drop the "romance" part and just let them be friends/someone she could confide in. The people hadn't been so confused and we might have avoided analysis like this:

    http://chuckthisblog.wordpress.com/2010/06/25/sarah-walker-vs-her-type/

Though some of the commenters seem to have got the story closer to how I did. Again I might have got the story wrong.

  34. Found a winner for Chuck and Ellie's mom... Alexandra Paul

    ReplyDelete
  35. Alexandra Paul... now that is an interesting choice. She is probably old enough too. Hmmmmm.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yea, She is tall enough too...5'10. Lancaster is 5'8, Levi is 6 whatever... A lot of these Mama B prospect are 5'6 or shorter... That just doesnt jive with how tall the rest of the cast is minus Gomez. I am on board for Paul or Russo. Rene is 5'8 and she will pull in new viewer because she is so well known... Sela Ward is 5'7 which could work, but that is pushing it considering Zac is 6'3/6'4...

  37. Mind you, height differences can easily be hidden on film. I mean, Tom Cruise never looks tiny in movies. :)
