  1. I prefer the three hour podcasts but this was good. Any ep with Siskj is a good ep.

  2. Well just like usually, it was worth the wait :) Siskj was nice suprise and she always pleasure.
Great Podcast, Thank you guys ;)

  3. There were definitely references to Swordfish in Chuck's hacking style. Search "Hugh Jackman hacking" and you'll find a video. Jackman's character drank wine out of a glass, though. But, he did have the headphones on. Even Chuck's "3-2-1" line came from the scene.

  4. I really, really hope they don't repeat the Alias ending without injecting something different into it.

Granted, I never saw that ending because I didn't watch the show. It does sound like something shippers will adore, though.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Thanks for the podcast, and Siskj is always a nice addition.

But why exactly is Sarah a s*?

    ReplyDelete
  6. We shall see if it is anything like the ALIAS finale. I don't remember it all that well, actually.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Thanks for doing that. And even though I would have listened to just you, Siskj was a nice surprise. You two work well together.

Loved the outtakes. Britta´s "me so christmas, me so merry." was just like her high pizza dance in the ep with the alternative realities.

I am really curious about Sarah´s secret and her backstory. The TV guide site has a little teaser about 5.08 (http://www.tvguide.com/News/Chuck-Sarahs-Mom-1040735.aspx). I really like the picture, but Fedak´s quote worries me a little.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Great poopcast, o Mighty One, lest you forgot to discuss Sarah's sleeuty ways! Lots of man meat in her past...

    ReplyDelete
  9. Is it sad that I timed my drive to work around the length of your podcast?

    Don't answer that.

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  10. "But why exactly is Sarah a s*?"

I don't know but she is... obviously. Duh! I mean, she was RUINED for Chuck by the writers when she kissed Cole! And when she slept with Shaw!!!!!!!

    Or something.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Jim, it isn't sad. It is just awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Fedak's line in that article is almost DR-esque:

"After this, you will know Sarah as a different character."

    ReplyDelete
  13. He just reads this site to get his interview responses... we've known that for years.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I bet Bryce was better in bed.

    ReplyDelete
  15. right now I am guess this but maybe before Decker die which was awesome he got Shaw released from prison so he could go after Chuck. What do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think Carina needs to come back so Sarah can cheat on Chuck with her.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well, then it would be better to have Zondra back. They have a history after all.

    ReplyDelete
  18. If this show had BALLZ it would have given Sarah many sexual partners throughout the life of the show, most of them women. But then it wouldn't be a "family" show where people are murdered left and right.

    ReplyDelete
  19. If they had hooked her up with women maybe the shippers would have been too busy drooling to b****. Meanwhile in a sense of fairness they could have thrown Chuck & Cole together...pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yeah, Sarah could have been like that Kalinda character on The Good Wife.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thanks for a great podcast.

Am I missing something because I don’t get the Sarah is a slut references? How is she a slut?

If Fedak got how to answer from DR, then I’m going to take that “Sarah is a different character” literally. She’ll officially change her name to Sarah Walker Bartwoski and won’t be Lisa whatever anymore.

The Alias ending had them with a girl yeah? I want Chuck and Sarah to have a child but a "I'm pregnant" would suffice, seeing their child ala Alias would be the same. But if we do see the child, I wouldn't object. There was a young girl in the Chuck cast saying goodbye video. Crew child or actress? Hmm.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Also with the ALias ending I think their child didn't have the special abilities (i.e. no intersect ;))

    ReplyDelete
  23. That was Fedek's baby, the original Clara.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anonymous,

How does a name change make someone a different character?

Besides I think that already is her name. She just uses Sarah Walker at work.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh she is? What a cutie. Thanks for letting me know.

    ReplyDelete
  26. ." There was a young girl in the Chuck cast saying goodbye video"

That girl you saw was Clara.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Magnus. I'm listening to Chuck You Tuesdays from Season Three and the word "plowing" gets used a lot. What would you call what Chuck and Sarah do now? I doubt it would do "plowing" justice.

    ReplyDelete
  28. How can Sarah get pregnant when they don't have sex? At least in Smallville they actually had a scene where Clark and Lois were supposed to be having sex. They could have shown so much hot stuff on this show but Fedak didn't want to. **** him!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I appreciate scenes where Sarah looks on adorably at her husband hacking as far more satisfying from a shipper POV then seeing them have sex.

That said, it wouldn't kill them to give us more CS sexytimes and above Disney kisses. But we’ve been complaining about that for ages now and nothings changes so I’ll just continue to appreciate the CS sweetness/romance/comedy.

But not going to lie this whole Sarah secret, Sarah;s character changing, huge loss CS will experience ect does have me worried on some level even though I know by the finale evenerything will be all rainbows and sunshine again. But I'm someone who doesn't just look at the endgame, I need the journey to be done well too. Maybe that makes me a worrywart CS shipper but I don't care.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Was away because something happened to my computer... sigh. Too much to fix, no funds to do it. I love it!

    Anyway:

"Am I missing something because I don’t get the Sarah is a slut references? How is she a slut?"

    It's tongue-in-cheek.

Other anonymous, I don't know what I would call it but plowing isn't one of those things.

Also, the Alias finale didn't have everything working out... it wasn't all happy days. But don't get too worked up over the Alias references on the podcast.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I hope her fav character in Alias was the mother - loved her too - so wished Lena Olin agreed to be on the show as a regular. Anyway, this Chuck was fun. Agree tired of the Let's quit the spy life vs. Let's not. Seems like Chuck himself (and Sarah, since she was going to run away with Chuck and quite in Season 2, and in Season 3 in vs. Honeymooners) have battled this and seemingly decided to be spies. What the deal, it's tired.

Am so agreed with Sarah would not have seen Swordfish, but the fact that a movie was based on Chuck - that would be discussed big time between all of them before, and we have never seen that.

I'm not freaked out by Shaw, it should be fun, a nice threat. On the Sarah secret past, my guess is her former handler must have forced her to continue to be in the CIA life for some reason to keep her Mom safe. So she has resentment vs. CIA and for safety reasons, has not been able to keep in touch with her mom.

I like Gertrude, but don't really see this electric chemistry between her and Casey. She actually has more chemistry with Sarah.

Decker was a waste and like a stereotypical bad man with nothing interesting about him. Glad he bought it.

    ReplyDelete
  32. "I like Gertrude, but don't really see this electric chemistry between her and Casey."

How do you watch the show if you are blind?

    ReplyDelete
  33. "That said, it wouldn't kill them to give us more CS sexytimes and above Disney kisses. But we’ve been complaining about that for ages now and nothings changes so I’ll just continue to appreciate the CS sweetness/romance/comedy."

sigh I need to let go of the sexytimes... but it's so hard because they are both so hot... what a waste.

    ReplyDelete
  34. If they actually have Sarah having been kind of forced to work for the CIA, I will retroactively feel even worse for season 1 and 2 Sarah.

There was always so much talk about Chuck not choosing this life and him having to sacrifice for it. And that is true, but Sarah sacrificed a lot as well. And in the end Chuck realized that, but there were still a lot of instances where he didn´t quite get her predicament, which would look even worse, if she did become or stay an agent not quite by her own choosing.

Maybe that´s not the case, but your tease about there being something, that might explain Sarah wanting to leave the spy life, made me think of that.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Maybe they held her mother prisoner? A bizarre parallel to Mama Bartowski's prison of her undercover duty?

    ReplyDelete
  36. I don't know if it's just me but it would be cool if cole came back for an episode or 2 bring all sarah kind of or old boyfriends to have some funny scenes and awesome fight scenes so in the end Sarah could kick all there butts.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oh great powerful DR of the bloodline S.

Bryce Larkin. Possible scene in Chuck this season?

-Guy who thinks Chuck VS Bryce is the best rivalry

    ReplyDelete
  38. Fedak doesnt want to give the title of ep.12. Why? Is the title a massive spoiler? Do u know anything Magnus?

    Chloe

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yeah, the title is a spoiler but why did they name the episode that? Silly monkeys.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Chuck vs Bryce - I LIKE IT!
That would explain some of your "how are they going to do that" in one of your podcasts......

    ReplyDelete
  41. I have it on good authority the its titled "Chuck vs. Alias"

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well I fight authority, authority always wins.

Still like Chuck vs Bryce better.....

    ReplyDelete
  43. It's more like "Chuck Versus the Day He Decides to Quit the Buy More and Ask Sarah to Go Away With Him Which She Turns Down Because She is Back to Being Bryce's Partner but then She Decides to Stay With Chuck but When he Re-Intersects All Their Plans Are Ruined".

    ReplyDelete
  44. Now THAT is a spoilery title!

So, Bryce does come back ....

    ReplyDelete
  45. Uh, isn't that the plot for Chuck vs. The Ring?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yes, that is the plot to Chuck Vs. the Ring. It was an example.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Duh. Me dumb. So, it tells you exactly what's going to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yeah, but shorter. Like... Chuck Versus the Day Morgan Dies.

    But not that.

    ReplyDelete
  49. How about .... Chuck vs Graham Is Your Father?

    ReplyDelete
  50. More like Chuck Vs. the Goodbye to General Beckman Because She Dies.

    Too long? Not accurate?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Chuck vs. Sarah Is Somehow the Real Mastermind Behind the Conspiracy Even Though She Can't Possibly Have Had Motive or Opportunity and Isn't Old Enough Anyway

    ReplyDelete
  52. the only reason I say this is because episode 11 is called Chuck versus the final nemesis and pretty much in all of season 1 morgan calls Bryce chuck's nemesis and I would think he would be because sarah was in love with Bryce before chuck and if you remember at the end of season 2 when Bryce looked like he died she went over to his body crying and when they took him body away she yelled don't touch him don't you touch him.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Greg, I have never heard the episode called "Final Nemesis." So, unless they recently changed the episode names, that isn't right.

    ReplyDelete
  54. IMDB has that title up - and we all know how accurate they can be ;)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Let me see... OK, I found the IMDB page.

As far as I know, their titles to 5.10, 5.11, 5.12, and 5.13 are ALL wrong. Unless something has changed since last I heard. And sometimes they do change the titles of episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yeah, I thought it was Chuck Versus the Goodbye...

I like Chuck Versus Sarah. Shippers be going craycray.

    ReplyDelete
  57. How about...

Chuck vs. the Bomb that Blows Up Casey

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hehehe... I may have been exaggerating how on-the-nose the title is.

    ReplyDelete
  59. How about ....
Chuck vs The Last Chance To Start Shipper Chuckapocalypse?

Heh, this game is fun ;)

    ReplyDelete
  60. Chuck Versus The Bedroom

    every shipper's dream

    ReplyDelete
  61. More like Chuck Versus the Ouch That Hurts.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Here's what would really cause a Shipper Chuckapocalypse:

Chuck vs. Sarah's Decision Never to Have Babies

    ReplyDelete
  63. Wow so many Magnus copycat, with lack of creativity.

    ReplyDelete
  64. if you go to this website http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0934814/episodes it say chuck versus the final nemesis but if you go to this website http://www.tv.com/shows/chuck/chuck-versus-the-bullet-trail-1561502/ it says it's called Chuck versus the bullet trail so one of these websites are wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Both are wrong.

    http://ow.ly/i/ksef

Chuck vs. the Bullet Train. That's a photo of the script.

    ReplyDelete
  66. You guys could have just gone to the other site I run for that thingy about the schedule to find out the names of episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Sorry, I forgot... I censored 5.12. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  68. "Miscarriage?"

I've been seeing people throwing this around. So they think Sarah's secret is that she had a miscarriage?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Chuck Vs. the Miscarriage... of Justice!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Anonymous--

The latest wild speculation making the rounds is based on an article saying Chuck and Sarah will experience a "major loss" before the finale.

Some people are speculating Sarah will have a miscarriage late in the season after becoming pregnant with Chuck's baby.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Well, at least if something like that happened, then there would be some incentive for them to quit the spy business.

Not saying that is what happens...

    ReplyDelete
  72. Chuck vs. the NTSB

After finally figuring out who has been after Carmichael Industries, Chuck and Sarah are on their way to confront their greatest foe. Before getting there, they are arrested and imprisoned by the CHP for talking on their cell phones while driving.

Hey, it's as likely as most of the stuff people are posting.

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  73. I hope they would have the sense to not touch that sort of storyline with a ten foot pole. Especially with so little time left. The characterization of women on this show is shaky at best. I would have little to no hope they could deftly tell such a storyline.

It would be for shock value and little else since the characters should already be well aware of the dangers and the writers will certainly not touch the fallout given their track record.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Sue, I don't think there is anything the writers shouldn't touch. I don't know if they can make it feel believable, though. But if it can work, then everything is fair game.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'm not going to make any judgments on execution of a plot that might not even happen, but I find the speculation more interesting than most of the things people come up with.

Partly, for what DR said about incentive to quit. As for shock value, yeah, but most plots are supposed to have something shocking happen. Don't they? Is that the writer's job?

You could say Steven Bartowski's death was for shock value. But, it also shaped the characters motivations going forward.

What do the writers care about fallout? The show is done. Even without this speculative plot, there are things planned that are going to piss people off.

That to me is better than the "shiny happy" fandom that went to this season not even caring enough to watch the show anymore.

    (getting off soapbox)

    ReplyDelete
  76. Writers should have the freedom to write what they want but they should fully commit to what they write and these writers don't. This has always been a problem for the show. They don't deal with aftermath and consequences. They would simply flash forward as they've always done. They wouldn't deal with the emotional toll on the characters.

    ReplyDelete
  77. **That to me is better than the "shiny happy" fandom that went to this season not even caring enough to watch the show anymore.**

    WOOHOO!!!! Right on.

    ReplyDelete
  78. wow everyone so happy around here. I dont get it why does everyone want Chuck to go dark. Or am I misunderstanding everyone one here. Is everyone being sarcastic. If you are then never mind me then.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I think there's a moment when you think What the hell, bring up the worst, anything is better than boring...

They need to be happy for us to figure out we didn't want happy, we want angsty, exciting, impredictible, whatever...

    ReplyDelete
  80. They don't want to give CS sexytimes because someone in the writers room is most likely yelling "somebody think of the children", yet murders and miscarriages are no big deals?

I wouldn't oppose a miscarriage and something like that would be a good incentive to quit the spy business, but if they go that dark, the light at the end of the tunnel has to be extra bright.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Could the title of 5-12 be what it was previously listed on GeekFurious prior to being censored? I had just happened to look back at it a few days ago and it had a title......

    Ben

    ReplyDelete
  82. Personally, I like dark Chuck. Sure I love the light moments but there has to be some real conflict and tension soometime to make it interesting, IMO. S4 was just too fluffy to my tastes. A balance of dark and light is how I like Chuck.

BTW, seems like the real FREDDIE WONG posts here at the SomethingAwful forums in the Chuck S5 thread:
    http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3443726&pagenumber=7

    S.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I still think that there is some confusion generated by different spoiler coming out: we know that probably one (or more) of the main characters will die before the end of the series, and then it makes sense that C/S will suffer a "terrible loss" before the final episode, without any miscarriage that I don't see coming.
But I might be completely wrong, it wouldn't be a first, after all...
Or maybe, the terrible loss is simply referred to their former teammate, then turned evil, that appears in the Christmas episode, and hopefully will also disappear as quickly... :)
But now to more serious questions, Magnus, what is the name of the instrumental part near the end of the podcast? or i just missed it?

    ReplyDelete
  84. Henry, it is the middle section of the new Metallica song, Just A Bullet Away.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I'll admit to something.

Between what Magnus said in the podcast and some of the teasers the PTB have put out, I'm the most intrigued by what's going to happen than I have been in a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  86. You didn't say much. What I remember is that you had heard something that interested you.

    (not exact words, of course)

    ReplyDelete
  87. I still don't remember what I said. ;)

Especially since I edited some stuff out. But there is definitely stuff I am interested to see how it all plays out. As I have said before, I know how it all ends but I don't know how we get there, for the most part... like 50/50.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Sarah has become kinda boring character now. It kinda pains me to say that, because I loved her character in previous seasons. But since there is no story for her this year, she little to no chance to shine and show other side of her other than the "serious spy" and has generally little to do, that is exciting. She also barely kicks ass this year.

Morgan got plenty of focus, Casey is getting more storyline than ever, new character Verbanski shine at every step...yet Sarah is just kinda there, a Chuck sidekick, a character that ocassionaly gets amusing or sweet scene, but is mostly used for exposition spy dialogue.

    Teddy

    ReplyDelete
  89. Sarah boring? Blasphemy.

If anything she’s gotten even more interesting and seeing Yvonne do more comedy and show more emotions as Sarah has been awesome.

I do wish she would get more storylines and focus. That I kinda agree with. But she still shines beccause Yvonne does so much no matter how little.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Oh Heavenly Magnus

will you ever tell us the season 4 zac and yvonne blooper you teased?

    ReplyDelete
  91. Don't worry anonymous episode 8 is a Sarah centric episode so she will get plenty screen time there
also with Shaw coming back Sarah will probably have a fair amounts of scenes with him hopefully some will turn out to be steamy scenes

    ReplyDelete
  92. Anonymous, there are actually several... that I can never tell you about. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  93. It's weird that anyone would say Sarah isn't "kickass" this season. Objectively, they've had as many fight scenes for her as usual. Even in the last episode, she had the fight with the hippy chick and she fought took out the guards at the collective as much as Gertrude did.

    So, someone isn't paying attention.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I think people don't really base their opinions on anything but what they WANT to feel. Someone decides this is a crappy season for Sarah due to... who knows what, and that's just how they are going to see it no matter what anyone says.

    ReplyDelete
  95. While I don't agree about Sarah being boring character, I do agree about the other points.
So there were few fight scenes, but all of them were pretty generic and nothing close to being as good as some of the better from previous seasons.

I also agree about the lack of story and focus, there is not much stuff happening with Sarah right now and we're 5 episodes in. Also her being a good spy and emotionally open is nothing new, since it was the case for a large part of season 4 as well.

I've been listening your podcasts DR and compare how little you have to say about Sarah this season compared to previous ones. Also you heavily criticized last episode and the part about Sarah looking for a friend and that was the only episode she got some attention.

So I hope that they are keeping Sarah character low key right now, because they have some strong material for her later on.

Yes I love Sarah character and I want her to get a lot of attention, especially since it's the last season, so I'm little bit unhappy about the fact she is not getting much story focus. Also some critics also noticed that YS has not much to do so far.
    Siemon

    ReplyDelete
  96. I criticized the writers for a crappy story, not the Sarah character. Also, if I haven't been saying much about Sarah this season, it is only because Morgan/Chuck were a big focus for three episodes, and then one episode I didn't think was executed well, and then the last episode was a focus on other characters. But the other points are that there is no chance for her to shine... which is untrue, she will. And that she doesn't even kick much ass anymore... not backed up by facts since she has been kicking ass AND taking names.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Well, I hope she will get a chance to shine and gets decent arc (not only one episode).

But the other things you said just confirm what i've been saying. I always considered Sarah second most important character on the show, but so far this season she doesn't feel like one. Casey, Morgan (and I don't even mention Chuck because he's always in focus) got plenty of attention in those first 5, while Sarah got very little by comparision. Since she's my favorite character, i don't like the fact she is a bit sidelined and from what I read it won't change in next episode, since it'll be about Ellie and Awesome...who frankly deserve some attention as well, since they felt sidelined as well, especially Ellie.

    Siemon

    ReplyDelete
  98. "i don't like the fact she is a bit sidelined"

Why do some of you feel the need to amplify everything? Just relax and enjoy the show you claim to love. YOU ONLY HAVE SIX MORE WEEKS LEFT OF IT!

    ReplyDelete
  99. As every viewer I've things I love about the show and things that I don't or I'm indifferent about.

Right now I'm not getting enough of things that I love, which not makes me a happy camper.

Since as you pointed out, this is a last go, I just want to get as much of the stuff I love as possible, which is in that order - Sarah getting great storyline where she shines, Chuck/Sarah being cool together, sweet and funny and Casey being well Casey, that's all.(I admit I got a lot of point 3 and I like it, a little bit of point 2 and very little of point 1)
    Siemon

    ReplyDelete
  100. I can't help but be fascinated by this "Sarah is boring" thread.

Could it be that a woman is much more interesting as the "object of desire" than "the wife"?

Because, objectively, she's not kicking any less ass than she did before. She's had plenty to do this season. Looking at the previous seasons, there weren't all that many Sarah-centric plots.

It's just that Sarah has gone from being the mysterious woman that Chuck wanted desperately to the less mysterious woman that Chuck sleeps with every night.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I think someone has hit the nail on the head.

    ReplyDelete
  102. First of all only one person said "Sarah is boring", so comming to any conclusions about any of that is a stretch.

And MediaSavant I would like you to specify all that great stuff Sarah did this season. So yes, she is a good spy and supporting wife, this is all nice, but characters on TV show shine when they are either working through some dramatic/emotional material or are really funny/cool.

On intelectual level, yes Sarah is still kickass spy, but looking at specific scenes none of those were as cool as some from previous seasons. Yes it was nice character moment, that it was Sarah who found out that Morgan is in trouble, but looking at specific scenes, it was just two short dialog scenes that took care of that, nothing particulary memorable.

Yes, there weren't many Sarah specific plots in previous seasons, although there were more in season 4 (and maybe I'm spoiled by that), but every 3-4 episodes there was Sarah heavy episode and there was still lot of focus on Chuck/Sarah romance(even in season 4) that kept her character important. Right now there is very little of that and they really haven't given Sarah much of a spotlight. Since this is last season, it would be nice if they gave her more.

    ReplyDelete
  103. "Right now there is very little of that and they really haven't given Sarah much of a spotlight. Since this is last season, it would be nice if they gave her more."

I agree with this. Though I want the spotlight she gets to be great stuff, not the stuff the crazy shippers are throwing out...i.e. she had a baby in her teens and gave it up or was married before ect. Not exactly the kind of spotlight she deserves.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Looks like MediaSavant really did hit the nail on the head.

    ReplyDelete
  105. "I agree with this. Though I want the spotlight she gets to be great stuff, not the stuff the crazy shippers are throwing out...i.e. she had a baby in her teens and gave it up or was married before ect. Not exactly the kind of spotlight she deserves. "

That is the point I fully agree with. And I beg for all that is good and holy, pleasy let it not be baby miscarriage, like some people are speculating. (although i don't believe it would be something like that, since it would not fit tone of the show at all).

Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you got till it's gone.....

Think I'll enjoy the show I love - it's my last chance.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Sarah had plenty to do in S4. The other characters also deserve some attention, like Ellie and CASEY. Sarah will have her epi.. or two. That's plenty for me, but I guess I'm not a huge Sarah fan. ;) I just want the story overall to be entertaning, compelling and fun. And to make some sense.. this season is fun and entertaing so far.
