CHUCK Versus the Hack Off - 5.05 Discussion

EDIT: LINK TO MY HACK-OFF RECAP! CLICK! CLICK! OH MY GAWD, CLICK!

And so it begins... the final nine episodes of CHUCK. No break in between. Just a mad rush to the end.

What is WB saying about this episode? Nothing. Apparently they were too drunk to post anything on their media site. Sure, I could go with NBC's stuff but I'm not in the mood.

So, what are your expectations? What did you think of the episode? If you had to rate it, from 0 to 100, what rating would you give it? GO!

And for the idiots who can't stop talking about 2 seconds of a promo... after an awesome episode...

  1. WHAT THE F*** is SHAW DOING BACK ON THIS SHOW????

    ReplyDelete
  2. First of all: CALLED IT! Thank you, dumb NBC promo guys.

Second this episode was kind of lame. I didn't care for the humor at all. I did dig Verbanski though, she was pretty awesome. The rest was a bit boring. And Chuck is really working my nerves with his waffling about the spy life.

  3. What the hell are you talking about Anonymous? Anyways I like the episode and it was cool to see FreddieW from youtube in an episode of Chuck. I kind thought it was funny how lester saved Casey and not the other way around. I wonder when the big bad guy is going to show up in Chuck?

    ReplyDelete
  4. If i have to guess id say he is going to "do" Sarah again : )

    ReplyDelete
  5. ...And the plot thickens. It looks like we have finally launched the heart of the season's arc.

There was so much pure fun in this episode combined with solid plot movement.

    Where does one start?

Casey and Gertrude romance. Chuck back to his nerdy, but cute roots. Naked people.

The sign of a good episode is how many times I rewound in the middle of it. Last week: Zero. This week it seemed like every five minutes.

I was surprised to see Decker bite it at this stage. But, I guess they gotta move on.

The preview for the next few episodes must have the shipper boards exploding in horror.

  6. I thought it was okay.

Them killing Decker was a WTF moment for me because i thought he would stay around until the end of the season.

I did like Carrie Anne Moss in the episode it's too bad her arc is already over.

    ReplyDelete
  7. so is decker the one who dies or is there someone else? i liked the hacking scenes with chuck but other than that the episode was pretty lame IMO.

interesting promo i'll be optimistic about shaw returning

    ReplyDelete
  8. I can't believe they did the whole "Chuck wants to quit the spy life" thing for what seems like the millionth time, but other than that I liked this episode. That ending with Decker was a suprise. I assumed we were going to be dealing with him all season. Then again, based on that (regrettably) spoilery promo, Team B clearly have bigger problems to worry about. I can't believe they gave that away so casually in the promo. It would have made for an awesome reveal in the actual episode.

  9. Yep, it feels like a Chuckopalypse is happening in certain circles.

Somehow, it feels like the good ole days are back.

    ReplyDelete
  10. maybe sarah and shaw can go back to their penthouse and have lots of wooden sex... we all saw his kama sutra book! splinters, ouch!

    anti-shipper OTP SARAH/SHAW

    ReplyDelete
  11. I really enjoyed this episode. It´s probably my favorite of the ones Zac has directed. Also thought it was his best directional effort.

Gertrude was awesome. She worked really great with Casey, Morgan and especially Sarah. The two of them working together and discussing feelings and the possibility of a life after the spy life was a lot of fun.

If I had to complain about anything, it would be how they treated Lester´s arrest for attempted homicide. That´s way too serious for taking it back for a promise. And doubtful that it would even be possible to just drop the charges. I didn´t really expect them to handle it different, though. It was more of a leftover from the last ep anyway.

I loved Chuck as a hacker and I didn´t really mind him pondering leaving the spy life either. Sarah asking him what her job might be at a tech version of CI was interesting.

Yvette Nicole Brown´s cameo was a fantastic surprise. I also didn´t expect Decker to go out like that. Or even to go out at all at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  12. It's not even because it's someone who got in between Chuck/Sarah. It's more like Shaw was a boring character that brought nothing interesting to the show and was acted horribly. Even if he had never had a relationship with Sarah, I would still not want to see him back.

    ReplyDelete
  13. "maybe sarah and shaw can go back to their penthouse and have lots of wooden sex... we all saw his kama sutra book! splinters, ouch!"
    LOL.

Gag me if Shaw/Sarah getting it on is brought up in the Christmas episode (Christmas is ruined!!).

The writers better have some awesome Chuck/Sarah planned for the rest of the season (complete with them getting pregnant) to make up for us having to sit through wooden Shaw again.

They couldn't just bring back Cole?

    ReplyDelete
  14. @ awelle- My problem with Chuck was he didn't think at all about Sarah when waffling back and forth. What she wanted or what she would do. He suddenly was thinking of changing the whole business plan without thinking of her or his friends. Spying is what everyone signed up for not Chuck's flavor of the week.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Fun episode... I will do my write-up a bit later, since I want to watch it a couple of times. It was nice to see Decker get wiped out. I like the actor but the character works better as a victim of his own plan.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't know, I'm kind of excited to have Shaw back. I really liked him as a villain...

    ReplyDelete
  17. I didn't watch the promo... did they reveal something big? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  18. I hear the complaints about Chuck talking about quitting the spy life, but it seems justified. Their business is f***ed at this point. Why would anyone continue to try to make it work with so many obstacles?

I thought Sarah's question about what she would/could do was much more interesting than her pining about being normal last week.

BTW--I watched Swordfish for the first time this week and I totally got the wine thing. If I hadn't seen it, I would have been "huh"?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well, so far the only employees at CI are Casey and Morgan. And Casey ended up in jail. Of course Chuck would have to discuss it was Sarah, if he really wanted to change their business or leave the spy life for good. I think the company belongs to both of them and they are married.

But he didn´t decide anything. He just pondered it. And Sarah kind of did the same when she talked about it with Verbanski. Sarah also did bring up her concern about a professional future for herself outside of the spy business.

I don´t think that was the last time this has come up. It certainly wasn´t the first time either. And Chuck and Sarah alre a lot better at talking to each other about stuff like that by now.

And of course for now they are firmly back in the spy business, because of Decker´s stunt.

    ReplyDelete
  20. DR--

    It revealed something really big.

    ReplyDelete
  21. @MediaSavant

I also liked this angle better for Sarah. It´s sort of in the same vein, but it felt much more natural. She really hasn´t done anything else ever, aside from conning people, which isn´t so different and I don´t think she wants to go back there.

And I always wondered, why she never thought about that when she wanted to quit the spy life earlier. And I missed that even more with Chuck, when he used to long for a normal life. I liked that they both thought about what they would want or could do.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Chuck and Sarah's discussion was that--a discussion. She brought up the computer thing earlier. He picked up on it and thought it was a possibility. Then, she asked a question about her role. It's the kind of give and take one would expect in a discussion. Only these discussions are spread out over different moments.

It's not like Chuck didn't think about Sarah. She was the one who put the idea of going back to his computer roots into his head in the first place. It was Sarah who was just realizing the implications to her own life. I predict much of Sarah's arc through the end of the season will be her figuring out what she can be besides a spy.

Chuck's original goal in life was not to own a security company, but a tech company. I see this as a return to that original idea for him. The original Charles Carmichael personna was a tech guy, not a spy.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I just wish he would have said to her they needed to have a talk instead of just jumping to the idea of turning the business into hacking and then bringing that to her. I just want them to figure it out together and not her just going along with him. I just want her to be able to have a voice in this too.

    ReplyDelete

  24. I posted the article. CLICK IT! DO IT!

I thought about doing more with it but in the end, I've written enough. I'd rather just watch the episode a few times instead. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. haha the "Love letter for the fans" translates in Sarah and Shaw kissing on the Christmas episode gotta love the show runners sense of humor : )

For once i am happy with Shaw coming back
First its going to bring some much needed spice to the almost boring Chuck and Sarah relationship
Second this way we will at least get to see a quality kiss in the final season

    Two questions Magnus:
    - why did they went through all the trouble of keeping Brandon's return a secret when they revealed it 2weeks before the episode aired?
    - is this going to be a multi episode arc for Mr.Routh? or just a one episode?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Remember, NBC and WB don't work together on promotional stuff. So, WB may have been keeping it a secret, but NBC promo had different ideas.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I enjoyed seeing Gertrude and Sarah interact in this episode. The naked people were actually pretty shocking...I'm glad I didn't read anything about that in the spoilers. It was fun!

This episode made me wish we could see more of Gertrude and Casey together. I hope it's not the last we see of her (though, I'm guessing it is).

    ReplyDelete
  28. Gertrude is right above Cole for me as my favorite ally to Team-B.

    ReplyDelete
  29. You know I think I'm girl crushing on her more than I ever did him. He was hot...so hot. But she's all around awesome and the only things he seemed to be good at was getting shot and wearing a towel.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The biggest "love letter" from the writers would be Sarah offing Shaw in cold blood. Shaw deserves a closure too.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh man, I almost typed out a massive spoiler.

    ReplyDelete
  32. "Gertrude is right above Cole for me as my favorite ally to Team-B."

Second that. And that reminds me that I would absolutely have loved to see him again. But having Gertrude around is amazing. So fun with Casey, but she works perfectly with everyone else as well. And it´s nice to have someone new around to shake the dynamics up a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Unfortunately, Gertrude is gone... at least for now.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yeah, that is dissappointing. I didn´t think this could be a goodbye for good for her character. I hope it´s not the case. I really really want her back.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think you can pretty much write that check and mail it. It's covered. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  36. It is kind of funny how when I said what I said in the Dear DR, even after all this time, people still were like "Oh, he's just messing with us."

    People are kind of amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think for the most part people believe what they want to believe. I am probably guilty of that as well. I guess we are just wired that way.

However it is possible to be aware of that and try to rationalize what we believe and why.

And it is kind of amazing to what length people will go to, to keep believing what they want to be true.

There was a rumour on twitter about Brandon Routh being on set quite a while ago. I don´t really have an opinion on his return yet, or about him kissing Sarah. I kinda liked him as a villain and I think this could be done great. But it´s not really possible to tell beforehand.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Since you often wrote spoilers to mess up the shippers(like "Sarah leaves Chuck for another man" when she went undercover at Volkoff)
its obvious when you say something like "Anyway, Shaw does return and will kiss Sarah in a way Chuck never has, will, or could."
people are going to think you are messing with a part of the fan base

    ReplyDelete
  39. But I never lied. I always spoke the truth... from a certain point of view. Just like Obi-Wan Kenobi.

    ReplyDelete
  40. No matter what the intention behind the wording of a spoiler, at face value they still were never wrong.

And Shaw kissing Sarah in a way Chuck never has, will or could, could just mean against her will or something along those line.

    ReplyDelete
  41. See, now you are thinking!

Granted, I really don't know how it goes down. That wording was just me having some fun.

    ReplyDelete
  42. People made me think I was crazy when I told them to re-read your article because you had already revealed who it was.(:

    ReplyDelete
  43. "Granted, I really don't know how it goes down. That wording was just me having some fun."

God damn! you said tongue and after all the lame pecks we saw for 2 years now there better be some "tongue wrestling" : ) : X

    ReplyDelete
  44. I know, Sue. I was impressed that you have been paying attention to the methods of my madness.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I thought of Shaw, even though I didn´t really remember, that it was in Dear DR.

I did wonder what you were referring to, Sue. But I kinda just skimmed the Dear DR, because I didn´t want to know too much about these last few eps ever. :(

Can´t really stay away for good from spoilers, though. And I always managed to still enjoy the episodes a lot. But surprises can be great. Yvette Nicole Brown showing up and Decker getting blasted to pieces was completely unexpected for me and that was fun.

    ReplyDelete
  46. @ awelle- I tried to stay away from spoilers too. Thats why I didn't even want to ask a question when he was answering them but as soon as he posted the answers, I caved. I'm so weak.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Good episode tonight! One question Magnus. In your last Dear DR you said that your secret ninja insider said that 5.05 and 5.07 could be fan favourites and there could be three fan favourites from 5.09 to 5.13. I was wondering what your secret ninja insider is saying about 5.08 since it seems like it could be a really good episode and maybe a fan favourite!

    AB

    ReplyDelete
  48. If Shaw kisses Sarah like Chuck never has it probably means that he forces himself onto Sarah and Sarah then Chuck kick his butt! Who did not enjoy ring part 2 just for just Sarah and Chuck non stop beating up Shaw?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Until he sees the episodes, he can't really give a good impression of it. Watching them shoot it isn't the same thing. I think he has seen up to 5.07.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Given (1) the last Dear DR, (2) the fact that Magnus doesn't ever outright lie in his posts and (3) the kissing spoiler, the Shaw thing has been obvious for days now. I'm surprised that it's come as a surprise to so many. However, as with all things Magnus-y and preview-y, context is key.

The thing that totally shocked me was Decker's demise in such an offhand way. Good on the writers and on Ms. Verbanski for that. It not only added a nice jolt but made visceral the stakes at play. Speaking of Gertrude, Carrie Anne Moss was phenomenal in this episode. Can we have a spin off with her and Yvonne just quipping away for an hour?

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  51. Oh, Gertrude... I will miss her so.

Jim, your #2 is exactly why I was surprised only one person seemed sure I was telling the truth. When have I ever made up a spoiler? Bah!

    I'm drunk, bitches!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Though, I do bend spoilers to my will. :) So, I am not surprised people were suspicious of it. But NO ONE should have doubted Shaw was returning.... in some capacity.

    ReplyDelete
  53. So I just saw the trailer that was posted and really Shaw is back I would have fingered if he did come back it would be near episode 10 think like then not in like the next episode.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'm curious to see the story behind Shaw's return . The last we saw of him , he was arrested by the CIA ( still funny ) . If he just shows up in castle for some reason I'm just going to roll my eyes and be like WTF ? . Though it's what the show does all the time . I should be used to it by now .

    ReplyDelete
  55. I dont see what everybody problem is. I loved Shaw as the bad guy. Really does anyone think Shaw going to break up Sarah and Chuck at this point.

So wait is Shaw behind the whole Decker thing. How that possible. Was Decker working with Shaw.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Wooovvv I saw the promo before watchin the episode and Shaw??? This is real bomb!!! How can we wait for two weeks????
Anyway I loved the episode because Zac directed it, that's it!!
Yvette Nicole Brown surprise was good!!
    I loved the casey-gertrude scenes!!
    Naked scenes wasn't that funny!!
    Beside I don't like tranked scene..It wasn't convincing!!
Nerdy scenes weren't convincing because they didn't talk about Chuck was "piranha" last 4 years...
    Decker died so easily!!
I hope next week's episode will be more good!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. The funniest thing I've read all day was on a "shipper-heavy" site where someone said the return of Shaw was not "interesting".

Meanwhile, nothing this season has gotten a bigger reaction from the fans.

Too bad it's over-shadowing discussion of this fun episode.

Having just re-read your spoiler in Dear DR, it's cool how the person who wrote the question in troll style just lobbed up the kissing subject for you.

Some people, myself included, have been speculating Shaw's return for a long time. It's surprising that it's shocking so many people.

I guess they took that "loveletter to the fans" stuff seriously. As if any writer would write 13 episodes devoid of conflict or controversy.

    ReplyDelete
  58. The thing is chuck is so calm and confident these days....shows return just does not bother me even though Routh is an awful actor. Chuck was calm in the premier when that douche touched sarah's bum, he said nothing when lester touched her and he did not worry that a whole camp site saw his wife in her birthday suit. Chuck is cool now.....so whatever shaw does or does not do will be all gravy to even the craziest of shippers.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I for one didn't want S**w back, mostly because I didn't like his character, even as a villain I think that he was far from the best ones.
Now that he's back, I only hope (and I am confident, too) that the writers managed to have him back in a story that makes some sense. And hopefully, that after this he will be gone for good.
I will miss Decker, I think that he could have been an interesting nemesis for a little longer, and I really will miss Gertrude, Carrie-Ann Moss was great in this episode. I hope that she will be back soon.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Wow enjoyed that ep. Thought Zac got the pacing spot on. There was a lot in that episode. Loved the Shaw reveal I've waiting to come back. I mean he's a proper nemesis and there are valid reasons on all sides why. Mind you if he's only back for one ep and it's number 7 then I don't think he is the big bad for the season.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I look forward to all of this season....they are finally hitting their stride and putting out some high quality episodes. The characters are just so at ease with each other that it is amazing how far they have come. Yvonne just looks like since 3.13 she has being having the time of her life...compare her interviews since season 4 to the one she did with Jace Lacob before season 3 started and there is a tremendous difference and that is fantastic to see, an actor enjoying the heck out of their work. I am glad they are just letting loose it makes this home stretch all the more enjoyable. Well done actors...well done chuck folk, you done good, really good.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Somehow I feel that Shaw's presence on this show is going to be a tense, frustrating, annoying and attention-atrracting one. No confusion intended. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  63. The boards are a buzz in a way they have not been for a while. I think he's a great villain hope they don't pull a Volkoff.

    ReplyDelete
  64. then if it's not episode 06 and episode 07 because they show in the commercial and he is in it so unless that part of see shaw is in another episode and the title doesn't show then yea.

    ReplyDelete
  65. @Gina
yep Chuck seems to be cool with guys touching his wife
also it was spoiled Sarah will keep her kiss with Shaw secret so Chuck won't even know about it

    ReplyDelete
  66. That promo is the most brilliant thing NBC has done since season 3.

    ReplyDelete
  67. WHy does everybody thinks that shaw is going to kiss sarah...???
    PLEASE ANSWER..

    ReplyDelete
  68. I would have preferred to be surprised about Shaw's return, but the overreaction from the usual suspects is so entertaining that it more than makes up for being spoiled.

    ReplyDelete
  69. "WHy does everybody thinks that shaw is going to kiss sarah...???"

It's my fault. I mentioned it in the last Dear DR. :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. As a BR/Shaw fan, I'm super happy about his return!! This will be a very special xmas for me! :D thanks show

I enjoyed the ep overall, but something felt off. Dunno but I think the execution wasn't the best, and Chuck as a great hacker.. since when? Also, the sound in the first half hour was terrible, or was it just me? Really need to see the ep again to know how I feel about it, but I don't have dvr. Guess have to wait for the dvd. Any way, I'm a happy fan right now! :)

    S.

    ReplyDelete
  71. @Anonymous
I watched it by stream and i had the same sound problem
hopefully the DVD version will have that cleaned out

    ReplyDelete
  72. Liked the episode overall. The pacing felt much better than last week and they seemed to do a much better job with the whole exposition of the Chuck/Sarah spy-life issue. It was also a nice blend of all the elements- comedy, romance, plot etc. That's something this show has always done well and it's how I want to remember it as it goes out. I'm a little curious about that Sarah line about "big life changes"- it seemed just a tad too pointed, we shall see though. I'm fine with the Shaw return as it will shake up the status quo, but watching the interwebs go nuts over it and rehash their S. 3 hatred is already starting to drive me nuts. It's gonna be a long two weeks :(

    ReplyDelete
  73. I loved the episode. My favourite so far. In the other eps I've felt bored in some places and the Morgan stuff was the most boring to me, but this one I enjoyed throughout and would re-watch over and over.

All the characters had some great moments but I have to say can Sarah/Yvonne get any more adorable? Like seriously.

Also when Sarah mentioned what she would do in it did get me thinking, yeah what would you do? LOL. If their arc this season is to get out of the spy life and have a family as well as other jobs, I would love to see (and hope we do) what Sarah would do. I do wonder though if they were ever to give up the spy life if they would return to it in future because they miss it and got bored of living a normal life and their kids think they are just the boring parents lol.

Or if they continue to be spies, they could still raise a family and have a normal life, just also have a kick a** job, it wouldn't be that different if they were a cop or something in that line of work.

Maybe Sarah can be head of Security for Carmichael Tech?

    ReplyDelete
  74. @Adrian'S
Why on earth is Sarah going to keep the kiss with Shaw a secret from Chuck? That is really weird...I wonder how this kiss is going to happen: by will or force? There's one thing that's for certain though: the next few episodes with Shaw in are going to mess with the shippers like crazy, Magnus was right about that one.
Personally, I hope Shaw dies in the end, it would be interesting to have him as the main nemesis till the finale, with Chuck killing him ;). And I would not mind Jill returning as well, but I think that another blast from the past is unlikely.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Shaw will maybe be a problem in this episode between C&S but I m pretty sure it won't be the unique episode (see title ep 12...) sorry shippers!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Oh, they finally released the name of 5.12?

Big spoiler: Chuck Versus the Divorce from Sarah.

    ReplyDelete
  77. They didn't release it yet, I m just saying...

  80. I heard the same thing, also
    5.10 Family Drama ,
    or something like that.
    BTW
How are you Magnus? I read that you are practiced the a drinking a little :) You okey now? What about the podcast , when will be recorded and came out ? Your podcast is the only what i still listening , and I missing.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Yeah but I m talking about the 5.12 not vs family drama

    ReplyDelete
  82. my Answer was for Magnus not for you :) for the post that He removed

    ReplyDelete
  83. Podcast? I guess when someone decides to do one with me, unless you want me to record it by myself.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I don't need to look for it. I already know it as well ;)

    ReplyDelete
  85. "unless you want me to record it by myself."

would be so bad? I mean after all You're the one who talk the most in the podcasts anyway.
    LOL.
    Sorry ;)

    ReplyDelete
  86. Well... it... is... my... podcast...

    ReplyDelete
  87. In regards to the title of 510 being "vs. the family drama", I've seen that, but I don't trust it. I haven't seen it anywhere else and many of the titles in IMDB for later in the season are wrong.

Did anyone see that anywhere but IMDB?

    ReplyDelete
  88. @Emily L
I don't know why she's going to keep the kiss a secret from Chuck that's more interesting then the kiss itself in my opinion
As for Jill returning that would have been awesome and more justified since her story line was not properly closed with her running free while Shaw's story was closed in jail
Probably the show runners just wanted to cause a reaction and Brandon Routh is probably cheaper to bring back then Jordana Brewster

    ReplyDelete
  89. Magnus,
Am I even close to being right that Sarah will kidnap Clara in 5.8 to protect her? Also, can you give us a tiny hint as to what Ms. Walker's big secret is?

    X

    ReplyDelete
  90. In regards to a Jill return, Jordana Brewster has been filming the new "Dallas" in Dallas since mid-October.

While it's not impossible for them to work around that schedule, I doubt they can do it for a large number of shooting days.

Chuck's Xmas episode was shot in late September/early October and then they started shooting the Sarah-centric episode.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Just rewatched and while I'm still pretty lukewarm on the episode as a whole, the moment when Lester is walking by talking and just turns and says, "Hi, you" to Sarah and sort of tickles her cheek is one of my favorite things the show has ever done. Its just so random and unexpected. I've rewatched that moment like 10 times now and its just never not funny.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Lukewarm about genius?

    BANNED FOR LIFE!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Lukewarm verging on meh. A bunch of little things added up to irritate me. Anytime someone throws up on a show sets me on edge just...ew. Then I didn't dig the needless gratuitous nature of the way the nudist colony was shot. The blurry lines were stupid to me and it added nothing. I don't know if it was a directing choice or scripted but less is more when it comes to that kind of comedy for me. I was also positively bored by the prison scenes that didn't have Verbanski. The hacking stuff was kindof fun but I hate when shows just bust out these skills that the characters never ever talk about, I mean this was a big important thing in his life and we go 5years without anyone mentioning it?

Plus they lost me on the normal storyline years ago. I don't care what Chuck ends up doing, I just need him to shut up about it. Plus they killed off Decker who I liked, because the actor really pulled off funny douche and he was the only thing about the conspiracy angle I'm enjoying.

    GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN BANNED FOR LIFE?

    ReplyDelete
  94. i think Stan Lee is going to kiss the general too.

  95. Chuck has hacked often on the show. The time, for instance, he opened up the lock of his mom's cell after messing on the computer for a few seconds back in "First Fight". Hacking.

In "Anniversary" when he had a program for breaking into the encryption of his moms files. Hacking.

Didn't he even mention once having created a virus called the "Bartowski" in college? Hacking.

It's not like it was something totally new.

I can think of other examples over the last five years of Chuck showing some skills at hacking into computers.

  96. I don't believe the titles on IMDB either since they list 5.13 as "Chuck vs the Last Mission part 2", which we already know the real title is "Chuck vs. the Goodbye."

  97. Yet, they never mentioned he was a world famous made a movie about him hacker, ever. Thats what I'm referring too. Morgan never tried to talk his buddy up to Sarah? Why didn't he use his skill in Leftovers if he was that good? The level of his skill not being mentioned I call foul on.

  98. Except he has been shown to have techie hack skills before. If you really want to have a problem with it, you can. I don't really have a problem with it because it isn't something that is totally out of the realm of possibility.

I used to code but haven't done it in a long time. Give me a few days and I bet I could be kind of good at it again.

  99. FWIW--Just because Morgan said Swordfish was based on Chuck, doesn't make it true, even in the Chuck universe. It struck me as one of those things they just convinced themselves is true, but isn't. Besides, the hacker Hugh Jackman played in Swordfish had been in prison. As far as I know, Chuck was never arrested and thrown in jail for hacking.

It's not something you can think to much about. It doesn't take days to take a train between Paris and Switzerland either, but Honeymooners is an episode fans love.

I think the critic at IGN said it best:

"Chuck having once been a well-known hacker named The Piranha is one of those reveals that feels a bit questionable five years in (would we have really never have heard about this before?), but involves an extrapolation of a skill set we already knew Chuck has, so ultimately, I could go with it."

I think most of us are going with it just like we did with the train thing.

Chuck is full of logical inconsistencies like this.

  100. As I have mentioned about 4,000 times before, some fans act as if everything said in an episode is TOTAL FACT! Characters never exaggerate.

  101. All I'm saying is it did bug me so I mentioned it. Just like some things bug you guys, so you mention it. It doesn't need to be a thing, it is what it is. I honestly didn't mean for this to turn into what it has.:)

I'm glad you guys enjoyed the episode. Hopefully I'll enjoy the next one.

  102. GET OUT!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, I am not upset with what you said. I really don't care. I thought the episode was a lot of fun. If you didn't, so be it. It doesn't change anything for me.

  103. So...parole from being banned for life?:)

  104. It is an honor to get banned for life around here. Some people have been banned for life 5 times.

  105. Good to know. Then I've never been more proud, and will do my best to continue to disagree with you in the future.;)

  106. "Teehee."

Message received, you sly dog, you. Been waiting for this for seasons. ;)

-Overthinker who is always right. Maybe. Not really.

  107. I think that people are ultimately approaching the kiss between Shaw and Sarah as something bigger than it really is. I bet that it will be a pretty insignificant part of the episode. If you look back at 3.18 "Chuck vs the Subway," Shaw kisses Sarah there but when people talk about the episode you never hear anyone talking about it. As for the secret that Sarah is keeping during the episode, when I first read it I thought that it had to do with Sarah being pregnant, but after thinking about it, it just doesn't make sense as there is no reason for her to keep that a secret from Chuck. Really looking forward to the coming episodes though.

  108. 90% of the stuff that freaks people out before they see an episode is something that ends up not bothering them after they've seen it.

  109. Well, everybody focuses on S**w and nobody even seems to care about Rebecca freakin' Romijn (aka Mistique)? Is it just me, or there is something terribly wrong in the Nerdverse...?

  110. I've never found her acting skills to be of any quality so... I am ready for Becky to impress me.

  111. My strategy with Chuckgasmic is to take everything Magnus says and make the simplest assumption.

    It usually works.
