Am i the only one that still doesnt buy the whole 'Alex still is mad at Morgan for what he did' thing? Surely at some point someone couldve let her know that wasn't the real him.
Ellie and Awesome were so much fun. And very hot. They should be included much more. I even thought Alex and Morgan were kinda sweet.
Chuck is an idiot with his talk about the curse and ignoring the fact, that he at least had Sarah with him, before he went and left her behind. She forgave him way too easily. And he really screwed up on his own. Ellie and Awesome were better off without him and he needed Sarah to come to the rescue anyway.
I really want Chuck to truly trust Sarah for once.
A very well-paced episode. Ir just flew by, Great to see Ellie and Awesome involved and them shine as spies for a day.
I'm a little disappointed that Chuck gave up the virus, but I guess that's the plot. Next week's Xmas episode looks pretty intense. I'm getting the feeling it's not a feel-good episode.
Pretty exciting episode. I loved Ellie and Awesome's date and the ensuing spy hijinks they got into. I'm a little disappointed that Chuck came across as so ineffectual, though. All he did the whole episode was act nervous, get captured, and give the bad guys exactly what they were after. Maybe next week he'll redeem himself a little. He'll have to step his game up a little to take on Shaw, right?
the last 3 episodes have been top notch.did anyone else think that the actual virus was going to be in chucks pants box or what ever they called it? That was my guess the whole episode because of the history of clever plans. but it turns out he was just being an idiot,
The whole P.A.N.T.S. thing was just there to put Morgan and Alex together to set up them getting back together. If we ever see it referenced again, I will be surprised.
Sarah should have been much angrier and stayed that way for longer. Also at least she was angry.
Chuck should have tried to think of something when they talked about using a fake virus. Last week he was shown to be a hacker legend and this week he doesn´t even consider doing something to the virus, that can´t easily be detected by the torture chick?
And I really hated him leaving Sarah behind and not appreciating, that he at least had her by his side before that. Sarah should have slapped him. She did leave him tied up there for a while, but that can´t have been for long.
Chuck fluctuates between being a super-smart person who can outsmart anyone (e.g. Volkoff) to someone who can't come up with a good plan to save his (or his family's) life.
It is a little disappointing and Sarah should be angry.
Devon and Ellie demonstrate that a married couple can be sexy. They could do it with Chuck and Sarah if they wanted to. They don't want to.
I wish Sarah would have stayed angry longer as well. She forgave him way too quickly. As for the virus, like some have already mentioned, why not give a fake virus or at least alter the real one. Wasn't it just last week that we were told how great Chuck was with computers.
Ellie and Devon were really great at working together and ended their "mission" on a sexy note.
Alex and Morgan were kinda sweet with Morgan´s P.A.N.T.S., although their relationship just was never sat up that good.
Chuck was an insensitive jerk towards Sarah and seemed to only remember, that he was married to her after the fact. He should have at least been successful as a spy or a hacker to balance that.
As it is, I did not enjoy the episode very much, despite of the good bits with Ellie and Devon or Casey meeting up with Beckman. It was kinda hard to root for Chuck.
I am writing a scathing review of this episode that will still be positive. This computer is so slow, though, it is taking a while to get through. I can't seem to get the video to play on my computer, and I already deleted it from the DVR. Not sure I will be doing quotes this week unless I figure out how to get things to work.
I'm just glad that the quality of the episodes have gone up from the first couple of the season. I was a little worried Chuck would be going out with a wimper. Knowing the way the show always builds and leaves you a little confused as to how it all works together until the last two hours of airtime, it's going to be a hell of a roar.
I think this was close to being my favorite episode of the season, in spite of the Chuck stuff. It kind of reminded me of early season 3, specifically the episode with Angie Harmon. Come to think of it, that episode featured Devon on a spy mission due to mistaken identity, and also saw the introduction of Shaw.
One thing is clear, Morgan had his spotlight as the intersect in the first three episodes but in the last three episodes he's been demoted back to that guy who appears in those inserts between the main action scenes.
Otherwise nice episode but the ending felt (again) bit rushed. When Sarah said "this is not over" I thought she was going to use Chuck as a bait to lure out some evil boss guy, but no it just meant she's going to stay angry for few more minutes.
I am bored of Chuck without intersect. Last week I wasn't bored of Chuck without intersect because AWESOME but this week I am bored of Chuck without intersect because OH MY GOD WHAT ARE YOU DOING, MORON?
Sarah even made Beckman and Casey go with Chuck´s superbad not working plan, which didn´t make them look too competent, but it still wasn´t enough for Chuck.
And he seemed to care more about leaving everyone else behind. Leaving Sarah behind did not give him much pause. This whole curse thing was not developed enough to make him act like that.
They probably wanted Chuck to go there alone and have the curse released, but I can´t imagine, that they couldn´t have found a better way to do it.
I wish they would at least not have resolved Chuck and Sarah´s conflict. She could have still been angry next week and he would need to think of something to really make it up to her. His promise didn´t seem to hold that much weight, as this wasn´t exactly the first time he behaved like that, just the worst.
And having that conflict still unresolved could have played nicely into next week´s plotline, with the way the promo made it look.
At this point I hate to crap on the show for obvious reasons but this episode felt mostly contrived. It just fell apart bit by bit. That was also another horrible resolution to a baddie. Having a torturer scared of her fave "toy" and giving in so quickly?
I thought having her scared of it, because she was so familiar with it worked well. That way she knows first hand, that everyone eventually talks.
Unfortunately Chuck had nothing to do with it. So he continues to be stuck with all the bad bad plot points thrown at his character and coming across as incompetent and insensitive.
I can't believe you didn't give out a spoiler of Alex trying to get into Chuck's PANTS.
Shirtless Awesome and Angry Sarah were the only things I really enjoyed.
Chuck continues to work my nerves. If they can somehow fit in JealousPissyChuck somewhere in the remaining episodes they will have effectively revisited all my least favorite Chuck's of season 2. I guess that kind of counts for continuity.
Anonymous, I think you are demonstrating the effect of someone trying too hard to dislike stuff. There is lots to dislike, but her being scared of her own device makes sense. SHE SHOULD BE.
Magnus, I remember you saying that one of the episodes around now was a likely fan favorite according to your ninja/spy/gremlin. Was that 5.06 (seems unlikely based on the comments; haven't seen it yet in the West Coast) or 5.07?
They tell us as a chracter chuck bartowski always in firt place but they put him in second or third place always!! This week's and next week's episode are about the other chracter's story!! and chuck vs. the baby will be about sarah's backstory. When will chuck bartowski really in first place and somethig will happen to him??
This is not Chucks fault it is the stupid writers! It actually is also the problem when you make your hero awesome in 48 episodes and have 43 left to tell a series, lol. Basically at the end of Other Guy Chuck could do everything, he had the intersect and the brain and he could kill when needed...that was like mission accomplished, that was the arc of the show. Now how do you tell stories with Chuck being that awesome?
The writers have not choice but to do this bs crap, lol. They kind of have to keep regressing Chuck as much as possible to push the story or all this show would be is Chuck being awesome all the time, lol. I agree that this was the worst idea they could contrive but at this moment in time I just want them to get the character stuff right, that is it. Have Chuck buy Sarah a house and that will be awesome! Let them smile at each other with those infectious smile and then fade to black....
I sort of agree with that. The arc over 4 seasons was great. Chuck with the intersect, not a hero-->Chuck a hero with the intersect-->Chuck a hero without the intersect (s4 finale). Now season 5? He's already sort of finished his 'hero' arc, he's got the girl, he's sorted out stuff about what happened with his mom, dad, and ex, what's really left to cover about Chuck himself?
I'm enjoying chuck because its more chuck, but you can definitely tell some things this season were a bit of a scramble. (of course, that's likely because prospects for season 5 definitely weren't bright last spring)
I have stayed with Chuck for the personal because on that front there was a story to tell. One thing I will say is since 3.13 their story has been on the whole great, they got engaged at the right time and married and now buying a house and possibly starting a family. That feels organic...the spy stuff though? No, not really but as I said...the spy stuff kind of ended for me at the end of season 3. But I love the personal stuff so much that is awesome enough for me. This is not slight on the show, I just understand that living like they have had to that was the only way they could go.
"I am going to start working on creating the Global Ignore Button for Hyperbolic People."
*singsong* I know you are, but what am I? *singsong*
Seriously, though...Having now seen the episode, there were a few annoying things, but on balance I liked it. The annoying bits were offset by some seriously Awesome (as in Mr. and Mrs. Awesome) bits.
I think the whole curse idea and Chuck's fixation with it was fairly idiotic, but if you accept that as a premise, I didn't have any problem with Sarah forgiving Chuck so quickly. It was obvious to her, and even stated in the episode, that he was going solo to protect her, not because he didn't trust her. Whether that was stupid or not is beside the point where Sarah's perception of the facts are concerned.
Things that I really liked:
1. The Awesomes were awesome. Martini!
2. Where has this version of Alex been all this time? She was great.
3. Rebecca Romijn was surprisingly acceptable. I guess I was expecting something along the lines of that model in the catwalk episode.
Moving on briefly to the promo: I'm guessing Shaw is not a real player in any of this. He's just taking the opportunity to exact a little revenge on his favorite couple. Also, odds of Chuck actually having the Intersect back next episode: <5%. At least I hope so. He doesn't need the damned thing any more.
"I didn't have any problem with Sarah forgiving Chuck so quickly. It was obvious to her, and even stated in the episode, that he was going solo to protect her, not because he didn't trust her."
This! great point Jim! unfortunately for people who want angst, betrayal and dark stuff on a lighthearted show like Chuck it looks like they where disappointed again : ) maybe next time Chuck tries to protect Sarah she will file for divorce so people who want soap opera drama on the show can get some pleasure
This episode looked great to me lots&lots of entertaining bits:
- Beckman working with team Bartowski "just like old times" was very nice its great to see Beckman's loyalty for Chuck and the gang is still there
- i enjoyed seeing Rebecca Romjin as a guest star, its been a while since we had a sexy ruthless spy on this show
- it was great to see Sarah and Casey as hardcore spies again, taking down a room full of enemies on their own
- last but definitely not least Devon and Ellie where all kinds of awesome in this episode it looks like the writers remembered they have more then one hot woman in the cast(Sarah Lancaster looked gorgeous)
*Special thanks to Ryan McPartlin and Sarah Lancaster for their performance They showed us married couples can be sexy, romantic, sweet and most important PASSIONATE! a big KUDOS for them and the way they performed each scene
"*Special thanks to Ryan McPartlin and Sarah Lancaster for their performance They showed us married couples can be sexy, romantic, sweet and most important PASSIONATE! a big KUDOS for them and the way they performed each scene"
When was it stated, that Chuck went solo to protect Sarah? And what would him leaving her behind without the virus even protect her from?
She was already being hunted along with him. His giving the guys hunting them the virus wouldn´t have changed that one bit, if Sarah along with Casey and Beckman hadn´t stepped in and captured Rebecca Romijn´s character.
He also doesn´t exactly keep her safe from that stupid curse, if he does leave her behind.
I thought it was pretty obvious, he didn´t believe Sarah would be able to convince Casey and Beckman or at least not do so fast enough. He even asked what she planned to do, if she couldn´t convince them.
@awelle you should rewatch the episode because you don't seem to remember all the scenes i think Jim was referring to the scene with Casey and Sarah in the car driving to save Chuck that's when Sarah told Casey that Chuck went on his own leaving her behind to protect her
While that might not have been the smartest tactical move it wasn't a move caused by the lack of trust between Chuck and Sarah it was Chuck trying to save their family(Ellie,Awesome) and keep Sarah away from a dangerous situation where they where outnumbered WHAT A JERK! right? : )
I noticed there is a trend lately(for some fans) to go after Chuck whenever he has initiative no matter if its related to the spy life or their relationship Last episode some people even accused him of going over Sarah's head and not considering her feelings because he SUGGESTED(its a big difference from suggesting something and forcing someone to do what you want)they might be able to turn Carmichael industries from a spy company to a tech company
Keep Sarah away from a dangerous situation where they would be outnumbered? Seriously?
When in the end she needed to come save the day anyway, because Chuck was way more outnumbered and without a plan on his own? And he had managed to give up the virus already?
And this has nothing to do with last week. I didn´t have a problem with Chuck´s actions last week at all. He was competent then and discussed things with Sarah.
@awelle again i did not say it was a smart spy plan i said it wasn't a move caused by him not trusting his own wife and unlike other Chuck non logical stuff they pulled in the past this one made a little sense as in Chuck being the type of person willing to sacrifice himself to save his loved ones(he did the same thing when he went to Russia without a plan and surrendered to Vivian to save Sarah's life)
You have a very immature understanding of relationships. Or, I should say, a very immature guy's perspective. I don't mean it in a way to take a shot at you. But you sound very young and inexperienced.
"When was it stated, that Chuck went solo to protect Sarah? And what would him leaving her behind without the virus even protect her from?"
On Chuck's part, it was an all around stupid, incredibly short-sighted move. However, the protection thing was clearly Sarah's perception of the situation as she stated to Casey. Stupid writer's conceit to get over a silly plot point? Probably. But this late in the game and with this show, it was enough for me to overlook the glaringly idiotic.
Regarding the promo and the latest spoilers -"No intersect to help you this time Chuck" "I wouldn't be to sure about that"
- Fedak teased the frosted tips will be back
- BuddyTV spoiler: Someone unexpected will play a pivotal role in saving the day.
The pieces look like Morgan is going to get the intersect back and he will help defeating Shaw If that's the case then the writers have the sickest sense of humor this storyline manages to combine most disliked two elements in this show to give the fans a "love letter" Christmas episode : )
This was kinda of a meh episode for me. I won't be reviewing it multiple times but it wasn't terrible. I agree with your review over on Geek Furious that having Chuck run off on his own was pretty dumb. My favorite part of this episode was when Sarah left Chuck tied to the pole in the dingy warehouse because she was pissed at him for being a moron. The Awesome/Ellie stuff was pretty good though. I more excited for next weeks episode since the promo looked awesome and ninja gave it the thumbs up.
Also, to add to the nonsense above how could Morgan even get the Intersect back? Beckman took the screwed up Trojan horse one out of his head and presumably took it back to the CIA with her. Also, since it was messed up I doubt Chuck wanted to hang onto it. I think it has something more to do with Chuck's Intersect never being fully removed, just suppressed.
"*Special thanks to Ryan McPartlin and Sarah Lancaster for their performance They showed us married couples can be sexy, romantic, sweet and most important PASSIONATE! a big KUDOS for them and the way they performed each scene"
Blame the show runner or editer...I am sure if they asked Zach and Yvonne to do hot they would. Heck some of the hotness from last season was cut (Based on DR)...so it is what it is. Why Fedak? WHY??????
We're just not going to get an Chuck.Sarah hotness and I think it's time to accept that... I'm frustrated too but complaining about it isnt gonna do anything and DR already said his ninja knows not of any future chuck.sarah hotness
Blame Fedak. Lol there used to be a joke running around that the only reason they filmed the hot scenes and did not use them was to give the crew a bonus, hehehe.
I suppose you can take some weird all be it valid satisfaction that although you do not see the hotness between Mr and Mrs Bartowski...in your heart you know it exists (because DR tells you it does and he knows everything)...only Mr Fedak wants to provide the Bartowskis with some privacy. LOL.
"However, the protection thing was clearly Sarah's perception of the situation as she stated to Casey."
If the writers intended for that to be her take, it make sense, why she would forgive him with relative ease.
However I can´t really see how she could end up with this perspective. Chuck didn´t even try to rationalize it like that later and there really wasn´t anything he protected her from.
Since they aren´t agents anymore, she wouldn´t have to go against orders, if she went along with his plan. They eiher are still being hunted or neither one is, if the conspiring agent is caught. So if he thinks this is about the curse, his running alone after saving Ellie and Devon might protect Ellie and Devon, but it would just leave Sarah to be hunted on her own.
Even if Chuck wasn´t thinking clearly, I can´t see how he could have come to the conclusion, that sacrificing himself, would protect or even help Sarah one iota.
He might have thought, that he should sacrifice himself and risk of the virus for Ellie and Devon, but for their safety taking Sarah along would only have been beneficial, as she was willing to go along with that.
Regarding the spoiler about someone unexpected saving the day and Chuck referencing having an intersect, I think there was also talk about someone getting the intersect, who hasn´t had one before. So it would be neither Chuck or Morgan, but someone else entirely.
I would like for Alex to end up with it. I really liked her in this ep.
@Sue- Could be that too. The only thing is, it looks from the promo like Casey gets shot. So who would be part of the rest of plan if Chuck is just bait and Sarah is cuffed? Or I could just really being wishing for a Shaw/Chuck rematch in the Buy More :)
Sorry about the typos. I also just saw the dialog of Chuck apologizing and he did in fact say, that he didn´t want to take Sarah down with him. So I guess, it was supposed to be played like that, but it still doesn´t make sense to me, how he could come to that conclusion, that leaving her behind would in any way prevent her being taken down with him.
But I guess, if that is what they intended, I will just let it go and accept it as very poorly executed and not thought through on the writers part.
But I am looking forward to next week. It looks as if they might go fairly dark with it.
@OldPandaDayz "Also, to add to the nonsense above how could Morgan even get the Intersect back?" Fedak already confirmed in a recent interview that we haven't seen the last of Frosted Tips so its not exactly nonsense
@People blaming God,Fedak, editing crew, writers and all other forces involved with the show for the lack of Chuck/Sarah passion
Its unlikely to ever find out the real reason passion between Chuck/Sarah died in season 2 so its useless to complain about that in season 5 Just enjoy the sweet scenes because it looks like that's all we are going to see and hopefully Ellie/Awesome and/or Casey/Verbanski will take care of the passionate part
I think this was a transitional episode, they ended some story lines and opened up some new ones, every show does this, and some do it better than others.
This episode wasn't fantastic, but it wasn't terrible either. Chuck going solo was pretty dumb, but he has done stuff like this b4, and it had nothing to do with him not trusting Sarah. He wanted to protect her, and he also thought that it was gunna take Sarah too long to convince Casey and Beckman. He thought his sister was in serious danger, and could not afford to wait any longer, so for these reasons he went in it alone. Again not saying it was smart, and I am glad Sarah was upset, even if it was shortlived.
Im kinda upset NBC spoiled the xmas episode, (I understand y they did but...) this episode was building to next episodes reveal, and it would have been an awesome suprise.
Adrian'S and esozcanesk...you guys are trolls. Did you guys see the interview that Zach and Yvonne did for Cliffhanger about 5 months back?
Jim is right, the actors do what the show runners tell, them they are PROFFESIONALS!!!!!!!!
If a show runner says use tongue they use tongue, if the show runner edits it all out he edits it all out....that is the simple truth. Plus passion is not only making out, it is defined by touch, looks, body language, etc. DR is right are you guys 17? do you not realise intimacy smacking you in the face when you see it?
This arguement has being going on since season 3 and it is stupid. If there was any credence then how come they want from crap in early season 3 and then awesome by 3.14?
Actors know how to turn of their emotions and play a part, the fact that you do not know this really means you should grow up and read or whatever and learn instead of making up rhumours and spreading them across the internet. ARGHHHH.....you two are the reason actors do not want to spend time with fans....you scare them with your BS!!!!!! Not that that is the case with the wonderful cast here though...urghhhhhh
Common!!! Who we kidding?... you guys can't you see ellie and devon relationship is more convincing than sarah-chuck. We always say that... When sarah kissed bryce or cool or manush, It was more convincing!!!
@AdrianN'S So that can't mean that maybe Morgan just dies his hair again? I just don't see logically within the story how it could wind up in his head again since Team B doesn't have the freaking thing. Unless, Chuck is currently building a new one as a Christmas present for himself.
Razorback said... "AdriaN`S... if you thought about it for three seconds, instead of aiming for the thing you want least, you would figure it out."
Razorback said... "Sigh... what has happened to the critical thinking skills of the youth of the world?"
Not sure if I'm right or if you'll be critical of my thinking only that I am no longer the youth of the world.
So, here's my take - I bet there is another surprise, another twist we don't know about - I bet StevenB plays a part in this somehow. He already told Chuck he was special and Chuck already rebooted once.
Chuck never really lost the intersect because he is the intersect.
I rewatched the Shaw/Chuck showdown from Ring, Part 2 yesterday. I can't see them replaying that showdown in the same way it went down. Otherwise, it would be just a rehash. Sarah helpless. Shaw and Chuck fight. Shaw gets upperhand, but Chuck "reboots" and defeats Shaw.
There must be a twist to it or it should go down differently. Unless the critics and insiders who say this episode is really good like fights that are just like fights we've already seen.
Matt Barber the director of the episode said he can't wait until people see this episode and called it "crazy good".
Also Fedak said that this is one of the most serious episode they have ever done, although he also said it might become people favorite Sarah centric episode.
If anything it sounds like they are planning some dramatic change with Sarah character (and if true i'm happy about that, since I like it when she is more dynamic) and it may be not to everone liking.
Only one thing annoys me about the episode 8 note above. NBC will for certain put some kind of spoiler for it in the promo after episode 7. The result will be that no matter how good episode 7 is, all anyone will do this Friday is whine about the promo.
The significance of "split could mean a lot of differant things but the most obvious would be as in break up temporarily or something to that effect to create an uproar.....am I even warm???
McGee also said that it is the episode that reminds of him of why he has stuck with the show for 5 seasons and Sepinwall agreed 100%! Man this must be an awesome episode of TV. It might be the first "A" that Chuck gets from McGee since he started reviewing Chuck at the AV Club. Yikes this has me incredibly excited.
Well it is generally I think Ryan has been down on most of the showes he has reviewed this season that it suprised me a little that he had this happy reaction. I mean he is ripping apart Suburgatory every week, Terra Nova just got killed. He had a go at Modern Family and Fringe has just had him say in the last review that it is no longer a show he wants to love because he cannot connect with it. So for him to say that he loves this episode...or in so many words is fantastic.
I know you always say temper your expectations....and I will and will judge it solely on my own expectations for every Chuck episode...it is just as I said a suprise that a review who I enjoy reading has actually something nice to say about a show that he reviews.
Sorry hit the button too early. The same goes for Sepinwall, he has had a sort of ...."I am reviewing this show based on sentimentality" vibe this season and for him to enjoy it...it is a pleasant suprise. I like that Chuck is going strong for the most part this season. I am happy for the cast and crew and fans that this is not just a bunch of episodes meant to guarantee syndication...that there is actually some great quality left in the show and that it can make a reviewer (McGee) actually enjoy his job even if it is for one episode.
You mean other than the fact that he was team leader and Sarah murdered his wife and he tried to kill Sarah and then Chuck shot him full of holes and then he murdered Papa B.
Also, profesional critics are just people like us. There is nothing special about them. I sometimes agree with them, but sometimes I just don't. My opinion is what really matters to me.
Well, professional critics aren't just people like us. They get paid for their BS opinions.
Which is what sets me apart from them. I don't pick up a paycheck for my opinions. I just do it because I love the show or because it gets me chicks. ;)
These sneak peeks are the usual beginning of episode clips. I think the best parts are the ones that are going to happen once shaw enters the fray! Then all that investment starts coming to the forfront.
"I'll say this about the picture... if it isn't the first shot you see in the episode, then the episode is already ruined. So why put it out there?"
I've been thinking about this for a few days because what you said provoked some thought.
When the episode was written, I'm imagining that Shaw's appearance at the Castle door is meant to be a surprise not only to Sarah, but the viewer too. If that's the case, there wouldn't be any Shaw scenes before that. There's all this discussion shown in the preview of Chuck trying to figure out the mystery of who their enemy is.
The alternative way to write the episode would be to show the viewer that Shaw is coming before Sarah or Chuck know Shaw is coming. In that case, there could be a Shaw scene prior to his appearance at Castle.
The first alternative sounds more like the way they tend to write things. But, it's possible they wrote it the second way. Back in season 3, they did let the audience know Shaw was still alive before the characters did.
As for why they released a picture that could be spoiling the conclusion, I'm not sure the PR underling that released the picture would be aware they are spoiling anything. Who knows what choice of pictures they had at their disposal when the request came for a picture.
I guess I'm as guilty as the they were, given I passed it on. I am going to delete my message answering Gina's question.
When you consider all the people who saw 503 at Chuckfest3 who didn't pass on spoilers, it is an odd thing to do. And it wasn't even vague, like they thought it was.
It's like whenever they get a spoiler, they can't help themselves. They have to give the final line for some reason. Or the final scene. And they think people won't figure it out but fans aren't idiots. THEY ALWAYS FIGURE IT OUT.
I generally don't mind spoilers and usually read people's reactions to the episodes prior to watching it since I'm 5 hours behind the east coast. But when I saw that spoiler from them it annoyed me. They gave no warning at all.
Especially on a show like Chuck where there is a lot of predictability within the storylines. I mean some of the smartest fans I have ever seen are the Mad Men ones...they can really pick up tonnes of stuff. So yeah, giving out pictures or lines or whatever...fans will figure it out very quickly...not that it matters at this point in the shows life.
Am i the only one that still doesnt buy the whole 'Alex still is mad at Morgan for what he did' thing? Surely at some point someone couldve let her know that wasn't the real him.
ReplyDeleteReally annoyed they spoiled Shaw in last week's promo, 'cause this was building up to be an awesome surprise
ReplyDeleteEllie and Awesome were so much fun. And very hot. They should be included much more. I even thought Alex and Morgan were kinda sweet.
ReplyDeleteChuck is an idiot with his talk about the curse and ignoring the fact, that he at least had Sarah with him, before he went and left her behind. She forgave him way too easily. Oh and Chuck killed the internet. It´s kinda like he passed SOPA. ;)
ReplyDeleteGod... I love angry Sarah.
ReplyDeleteA very well-paced episode. Ir just flew by, Great to see Ellie and Awesome involved and them shine as spies for a day.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little disappointed that Chuck gave up the virus, but I guess that's the plot.
ReplyDeletethe last 3 episodes have been top notch.did anyone else think that the actual virus was going to be in chucks pants box or what ever they called it? That was my guess the whole episode because of the history of clever plans. but it turns out he was just being an idiot,
ReplyDeleteYou have to love that it never occurred to Chuck that he could just replace the REAL virus with a fake one.
ReplyDeleteLots of continuity problems and logic problems in this episode but also some really good moments. Sarah Lancaster is SUPER HAWT!
And like I said... I love angry Sarah.
What was up with that P.A.N.T.S. thing, anyway? Was that just to set up that scene at the end with Alex?
ReplyDeleteHow come Sarah has never been out with no panties but goody goody Ellie gets to do it. WTF?
ReplyDeleteThe whole P.A.N.T.S. thing was just there to put Morgan and Alex together to set up them getting back together. If we ever see it referenced again, I will be surprised.
ReplyDeleteSarah should have been much angrier and stayed that way for longer. Also at least she was angry.
ReplyDeleteChuck should have tried to think of something when they talked about using a fake virus. Last week he was shown to be a hacker legend and this week he doesn´t even consider doing something to the virus, that can´t easily be detected by the torture chick?

ReplyDeleteIt is a little disappointing and Sarah should be angry.
ReplyDeleteJennifer
The promos are horrible. Why blow that big surprise, when the episodes seem clearly leading up to it?
ReplyDeleteEllie and Devon were really great at working together and ended their "mission" on a sexy note.
ReplyDeleteAlex and Morgan were kinda sweet with Morgan´s P.A.N.T.S., although their relationship just was never sat up that good.
It was a great episode, not much not to like. I agree with those who are upset about Shaw being revealed. That would have been a great twist.
ReplyDeleteI am writing a scathing review of this episode that will still be positive. This computer is so slow, though, it is taking a while to get through. I can't seem to get the video to play on my computer, and I already deleted it from the DVR. Not sure I will be doing quotes this week unless I figure out how to get things to work.
ReplyDeleteArrrrgh! I need more new gear now!
So they writer Ellie & Awesome well (combining but not their main couple and Chuck still doesn't trust Sarah? After 5 seasons and a marriage?
ReplyDeleteI'm just glad that the quality of the episodes have gone up from the first couple of the season. I was a little worried Chuck would be going out with a wimper. Knowing the way the show always builds and leaves you a little confused as to how it all works together until the last two hours of airtime, it's going to be a hell of a roar.
ReplyDeleteSo they write Ellie & Awesome well but not their main couple and Chuck still doesn't trust Sarah? After 5 seasons and a marriage?
ReplyDeleteA weak and boring episode apart from Ellie and Awesome.
ReplyDeleteI think this was close to being my favorite episode of the season, in spite of the Chuck stuff. It kind of reminded me of early season 3, specifically the episode with Angie Harmon. Come to think of it, that episode featured Devon on a spy mission due to mistaken identity, and also saw the introduction of Shaw.
ReplyDeleteOne thing is clear, Morgan had his spotlight as the intersect in the first three episodes but in the last three episodes he's been demoted back to that guy who appears in those inserts between the main action scenes.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise nice episode but the ending felt (again) bit rushed.
ReplyDeleteSarah has always put his best interest ahead of the entire country and he STILL doesnt trust her?
ReplyDelete"So they write Ellie & Awesome well but not their main couple and Chuck still doesn't trust Sarah? After 5 seasons and a marriage?"
ReplyDeletePssh. Five seasons and a marriage?
How about...
SIX SEASONS AND A MOVIE!!!
The writer who wrote this one helped write Muuurder!
ReplyDeleteAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Sarah even made Beckman and Casey go with Chuck´s superbad not working plan, which didn´t make them look too competent, but it still wasn´t enough for Chuck.
ReplyDeleteAnd he seemed to care more about leaving everyone else behind.
My review is up. Sorry for no quotes.
ReplyDeleteAt this point I hate to crap on the show for obvious reasons but this episode felt mostly contrived. It just fell apart bit by bit.
ReplyDeleteThat was also another horrible resolution to a baddie. Having a torturer scared of her fave "toy" and giving in so quickly?
I thought having her scared of it, because she was so familiar with it worked well. That way she knows first hand, that everyone eventually talks.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately Chuck had nothing to do with it. So he continues to be stuck with all the bad bad plot points thrown at his character and coming across as incompetent and insensitive.
I can't believe you didn't give out a spoiler of Alex trying to get into Chuck's PANTS.
ReplyDeleteShirtless Awesome and Angry Sarah were the only things I really enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteMagnus, I remember you saying that one of the episodes around now was a likely fan favorite according to your ninja/spy/gremlin. Was that 5.06 (seems unlikely based on the comments; haven't seen it yet in the West Coast) or 5.07?
ReplyDeleteJim
Isn't it written in the Dear DR? You could just look it up, Jim.
ReplyDeleteIt was 5.05, 5.07, and potentially three of the final six after that (but he hadn't seen them).
I believe he has seen the final of 5.08 and 5.09 but hasn't told me what he thought of them.
They tell us as a chracter chuck bartowski always in firt place but they put him in second or third place always!!
ReplyDeleteThis week's and next week's episode are about the other chracter's story!! and chuck vs. the baby will be about sarah's backstory.
When will chuck bartowski really in first place and somethig will happen to him??
"Isn't it written in the Dear DR? You could just look it up, Jim."
ReplyDeleteYup. Sorry. Forgot that's where I read it.
10 minutes and counting to Chuck being an insecure moron for us Pacific time folks. Yay?
Jim
I am going to start working on creating the Global Ignore Button for Hyperbolic People.
ReplyDeleteI'm calling it GLIBHyPe.
I just looked at the Dear DR and I never noticed I skipped 5.08 in that prediction. I meant to say 5.08 to 5.13.
ReplyDeleteThis is not Chucks fault it is the stupid writers!
ReplyDeleteThe writers have not choice but to do this bs crap, lol.
Gina-
ReplyDeleteI sort of agree with that.
ReplyDelete"I am going to start working on creating the Global Ignore Button for Hyperbolic People."
ReplyDelete*singsong* I know you are, but what am I?
Jim
"I didn't have any problem with Sarah forgiving Chuck so quickly. It was obvious to her, and even stated in the episode, that he was going solo to protect her, not because he didn't trust her."
ReplyDeleteThis! great point Jim!
unfortunately for people who want angst, betrayal and dark stuff on a lighthearted show like Chuck it looks like they where disappointed again : )
maybe next time Chuck tries to protect Sarah she will file for divorce so people who want soap opera drama on the show can get some pleasure
This episode looked great to me lots&lots of entertaining bits:
- Beckman working with team Bartowski "just like old times" was very nice
its great to see Beckman's loyalty for Chuck and the gang is still there
- i enjoyed seeing Rebecca Romjin as a guest star, its been a while since we had a sexy ruthless spy on this show
- it was great to see Sarah and Casey as hardcore spies again, taking down a room full of enemies on their own
- last but definitely not least Devon and Ellie where all kinds of awesome in this episode
it looks like the writers remembered they have more then one hot woman in the cast(Sarah Lancaster looked gorgeous)
*Special thanks to Ryan McPartlin and Sarah Lancaster for their performance
They showed us married couples can be sexy, romantic, sweet and most important PASSIONATE!
a big KUDOS for them and the way they performed each scene
"*Special thanks to Ryan McPartlin and Sarah Lancaster for their performance
ReplyDeleteThey showed us married couples can be sexy, romantic, sweet and most important PASSIONATE!
a big KUDOS for them and the way they performed each scene"
No doubt.
When was it stated, that Chuck went solo to protect Sarah? And what would him leaving her behind without the virus even protect her from?
ReplyDeleteShe was already being hunted along with him.
@awelle you should rewatch the episode because you don't seem to remember all the scenes
ReplyDeletei think Jim was referring to the scene with Casey and Sarah in the car driving to save Chuck
that's when Sarah told Casey that Chuck went on his own leaving her behind to protect her
While that might not have been the smartest tactical move it wasn't a move caused by the lack of trust between Chuck and Sarah
it was Chuck trying to save their family(Ellie,Awesome) and keep Sarah away from a dangerous situation where they where outnumbered WHAT A JERK! right? : )
I noticed there is a trend lately(for some fans) to go after Chuck whenever he has initiative no matter if its related to the spy life or their relationship
Last episode some people even accused him of going over Sarah's head and not considering her feelings
because he SUGGESTED(its a big difference from suggesting something and forcing someone to do what you want)they might be able to turn Carmichael industries from a spy company to a tech company
AdriaN'S, you sound like a 17-year old dude.
ReplyDeletei am older : ) what makes me sound like a 17-year old?
ReplyDeleteKeep Sarah away from a dangerous situation where they would be outnumbered? Seriously?
ReplyDeleteWhen in the end she needed to come save the day anyway, because Chuck was way more outnumbered and without a plan on his own? And he had managed to give up the virus already?
And this has nothing to do with last week. I didn´t have a problem with Chuck´s actions last week at all. He was competent then and discussed things with Sarah.
@awelle again i did not say it was a smart spy plan
ReplyDeletei said it wasn't a move caused by him not trusting his own wife
and unlike other Chuck non logical stuff they pulled in the past this one made a little sense
as in Chuck being the type of person willing to sacrifice himself to save his loved ones(he did the same thing when he went to Russia without a plan and surrendered to Vivian to save Sarah's life)
You have a very immature understanding of relationships. Or, I should say, a very immature guy's perspective. I don't mean it in a way to take a shot at you. But you sound very young and inexperienced.
ReplyDeleteWe're going to see What is in Chuck's PANTS box in later episodes????
ReplyDeleteChuck's mentioned about his father means We're going to see his father in later episodes?????
Chuck's mentioned about bartowski curse means Something is going to happen to him????
The writers prepare us to Chuck's death???
I wonder if Sarah has seen what's in Chuck's P.A.N.T.S.?
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'll be here all weekend. Try the chicken.
Jim
"When was it stated, that Chuck went solo to protect Sarah? And what would him leaving her behind without the virus even protect her from?"
ReplyDeleteOn Chuck's part, it was an all around stupid, incredibly short-sighted move. However, the protection thing was clearly Sarah's perception of the situation as she stated to Casey. Stupid writer's conceit to get over a silly plot point? Probably. But this late in the game and with this show, it was enough for me to overlook the glaringly idiotic.
Jim
Regarding the promo and the latest spoilers
ReplyDelete-"No intersect to help you this time Chuck"
"I wouldn't be to sure about that"
- Fedak teased the frosted tips will be back
- BuddyTV spoiler: Someone unexpected will play a pivotal role in saving the day.
The pieces look like Morgan is going to get the intersect back and he will help defeating Shaw
If that's the case then the writers have the sickest sense of humor
this storyline manages to combine most disliked two elements in this show to give the fans a "love letter" Christmas episode : )
Hopefully i am dead wrong on this one
AdriaN`S... if you thought about it for three seconds, instead of aiming for the thing you want least, you would figure it out.
ReplyDeleteChuck can download the intersect????
ReplyDeleteSigh... what has happened to the critical thinking skills of the youth of the world?
ReplyDeleteThis was kinda of a meh episode for me.
ReplyDeleteAlso, to add to the nonsense above how could Morgan even get the Intersect back? Beckman took the screwed up Trojan horse one out of his head and presumably took it back to the CIA with her. Also, since it was messed up I doubt Chuck wanted to hang onto it. I think it has something more to do with Chuck's Intersect never being fully removed, just suppressed.
ReplyDeleteOr Chuck is just the bait.
ReplyDelete"*Special thanks to Ryan McPartlin and Sarah Lancaster for their performance
ReplyDeleteThey showed us married couples can be sexy, romantic, sweet and most important PASSIONATE!
a big KUDOS for them and the way they performed each scene"
Blame the show runner or editer...I am sure if they asked Zach and Yvonne to do hot they would. Heck some of the hotness from last season was cut (Based on DR)...so it is what it is. Why Fedak? WHY??????
We're just not going to get an Chuck.Sarah hotness and I think it's time to accept that... I'm frustrated too but complaining about it isnt gonna do anything and DR already said his ninja knows not of any future chuck.sarah hotness
ReplyDeleteBlame Fedak. Lol there used to be a joke running around that the only reason they filmed the hot scenes and did not use them was to give the crew a bonus, hehehe.
ReplyDeleteI suppose you can take some weird all be it valid satisfaction that although you do not see the hotness between Mr and Mrs Bartowski...in your heart you know it exists (because DR tells you it does and he knows everything)...only Mr Fedak wants to provide the Bartowskis with some privacy. LOL.

ReplyDelete"However, the protection thing was clearly Sarah's perception of the situation as she stated to Casey."
ReplyDeleteIf the writers intended for that to be her take, it make sense, why she would forgive him with relative ease.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the typos.
ReplyDeleteBut I guess, if that is what they intended, I will just let it go and accept it as very poorly executed and not thought through on the writers part.
But I am looking forward to next week. It looks as if they might go fairly dark with it.
@OldPandaDayz "Also, to add to the nonsense above how could Morgan even get the Intersect back?"
ReplyDeleteFedak already confirmed in a recent interview that we haven't seen the last of Frosted Tips so its not exactly nonsense
@People blaming God,Fedak, editing crew, writers and all other forces involved with the show for the lack of Chuck/Sarah passion
Its unlikely to ever find out the real reason passion between Chuck/Sarah died in season 2 so its useless to complain about that in season 5
Just enjoy the sweet scenes because it looks like that's all we are going to see
and hopefully Ellie/Awesome and/or Casey/Verbanski will take care of the passionate part
I think this was a transitional episode, they ended some story lines and opened up some new ones, every show does this, and some do it better than others.
ReplyDeleteThis episode wasn't fantastic, but it wasn't terrible either.
ReplyDeleteJim is right, the actors do what the show runners tell, them they are PROFFESIONALS!!!!!!!!

ReplyDelete@AdrianN'S So that can't mean that maybe Morgan just dies his hair again? I just don't see logically within the story how it could wind up in his head again since Team B doesn't have the freaking thing. Unless, Chuck is currently building a new one as a Christmas present for himself.

ReplyDeleteHad to remove a bunch of messages because you guys were behaving like idiots.
ReplyDeleteThough, I removed one message because it quoted another, not because the content deserved it.
I will say this again, and I don't know why I have to repeat it: the writers/editors/producers/directors control the show, not the actors.

Well, you will see soon enough. I wouldn't have too many expectations or it may disappoint you. But I think Friday's episode is going to be HUGE!
ReplyDeleteStill, so close to Christmas, I wonder how much buzz it will generate.
Those who have seen it have said the same thing - without giving anything away (DamnIt!)
ReplyDeleteRazorback did you watch the 5.07???
ReplyDeleteNo, I have not seen it.
ReplyDeleteDecker referred to the device that he used on Chuck in 424 as a "suppression device" not a "removal device".
ReplyDeleteis there a removal device??? Nobody calls it like that!!:))
ReplyDeleteGo watch 2.21 again for that answer.
ReplyDeletethere is no removal device!!! Papa B used a computer to remove an intersect!! not a device!!!
ReplyDeleteHelp me!!! I can't write a sentence without exclamation points!!!
ReplyDelete"Help me!!! I can't write a sentence without exclamation points!!!"
ReplyDeleteHave you tried question marks instead???? Have you tried both?!?!
Jim
"there is no removal device!!! Papa B used a computer to remove an intersect!! not a device!!! "
ReplyDeleteAre you five?
A computer is a device.
This is where they come back and say "English not my first language."
ReplyDeleteOr...
"English not my first language!!!!!"
I meant glasses or something like that...
ReplyDeleteOf course you meant "or something like that" since your super logic is going to get crushed every time you speak.
ReplyDeleteThere is no rule on this show about whether you can have the Intersect taken out or not. They've just been "suppressing" it since season 4.
I be OK with anything just as long as Morgan dont save the day and take down Shaw and get the intersect back.
ReplyDeleteYou should quit the show now.
ReplyDeleteI rewatched the Shaw/Chuck showdown from Ring, Part 2 yesterday. I can't see them replaying that showdown in the same way it went down. Otherwise, it would be just a rehash. Sarah helpless. Shaw and Chuck fight. Shaw gets upperhand, but Chuck "reboots" and defeats Shaw.
ReplyDeleteThere must be a twist to it or it should go down differently. Unless the critics and insiders who say this episode is really good like fights that are just like fights we've already seen.
Heh... all will be revealed in three days! Or leaked by NBC in a day.
ReplyDeleteJust got my ninja's impression of 5.08.
ReplyDeleteHe says "It has the potential to split the CHUCK fan base in half." He is being coy, the little rascal.
Hmmmmmm.
ReplyDeleteI've always thought the Chuck fanbase has always had two halves.
That sounds interesting. Does he like it, though?
Matt Barber the director of the episode said he can't wait until people see this episode and called it "crazy good".
ReplyDeleteAlso Fedak said that this is one of the most serious episode they have ever done, although he also said it might become people favorite Sarah centric episode.
Siemon
If anything it sounds like they are planning some dramatic change with Sarah character (and if true i'm happy about that, since I like it when she is more dynamic) and it may be not to everone liking.
ReplyDeleteSiemon
Cue mass fan base panic in 3,2,1...
ReplyDeleteWhat fanbase?
ReplyDeleteSiemon
What "mass"?
ReplyDeleteBTW--Critic Ryan McGee just tweeted that the Xmas episode is "DAMN" good.
ReplyDelete...and Sepinwall tweeted 100% agreement.
ReplyDeleteGood point on the fan base. Also saw the Tweets, encouraging that McGee is raving about it. He's usually a tough one to please.
ReplyDeleteOnly one thing annoys me about the episode 8 note above. NBC will for certain put some kind of spoiler for it in the promo after episode 7. The result will be that no matter how good episode 7 is, all anyone will do this Friday is whine about the promo.
ReplyDeleteJim
Just saw a photo of Shaw from the episode that changes what I was thinking. And that's all I'll say. Gotta love the NBC promo department.
ReplyDeleteYes, the ninja liked 5.08. Like I said, he is being coy. I bet there is some significance to the word "split."
ReplyDeleteI wonder if that picture of Shaw is courtesy of Chuck or Sarah. I'm hoping it's the latter. She needs a little catharsis on that point.
ReplyDeleteJim
I'll say this about the picture... if it isn't the first shot you see in the episode, then the episode is already ruined. So why put it out there?
ReplyDeleteThe significance of "split could mean a lot of differant things but the most obvious would be as in break up temporarily or something to that effect to create an uproar.....am I even warm???
ReplyDeleteI don't know what he means. I know some of what happens in the episode but I can't think of anything that would "split the CHUCK fan base in half."
ReplyDeleteI am as interested to find out what he means as you are.
ReplyDeleteOh man, this episode will suck if both of them love it.
ReplyDeleteWell it is generally I think Ryan has been down on most of the showes he has reviewed this season that it suprised me a little that he had this happy reaction.
ReplyDeleteI know you always say temper your expectations....and I will and will judge it solely on my own expectations for every Chuck episode...it is just as I said a suprise that a review who I enjoy reading has actually something nice to say about a show that he reviews.
Well, my ninja loved 5.03 and 5.07 the most, of the ones he has seen. So, if it is as good as 5.03, then I am very excited.
ReplyDeleteSorry hit the button too early.
ReplyDeleteI find it amusing when people say Shaw is a good villain especially when Fedak said it’s because Routh can do icy well.
ReplyDeleteLet’s be honest, if he hadn’t gotten into Sarah’s pants, no one would be saying that.
But he did and so he gets a reaction. If he hadn’t and he was returning, he wouldn’t be a big deal.
You mean other than the fact that he was team leader and Sarah murdered his wife and he tried to kill Sarah and then Chuck shot him full of holes and then he murdered Papa B.
ReplyDeleteYou are so clearly a crazy shipper.
haha, you rock, Magnus.
ReplyDeleteAlso, profesional critics are just people like us. There is nothing special about them. I sometimes agree with them, but sometimes I just don't. My opinion is what really matters to me.

Well, professional critics aren't just people like us. They get paid for their BS opinions.
ReplyDeleteWhich is what sets me apart from them. I don't pick up a paycheck for my opinions. I just do it because I love the show or because it gets me chicks. ;)
Haha, well I think you should get paid for all you do for this fandom. ;)

There are sneaks peeks of chuck 5x07.
ReplyDeleteStan Lee is a guest star.
These sneak peeks are the usual beginning of episode clips. I think the best parts are the ones that are going to happen once shaw enters the fray! Then all that investment starts coming to the forfront.
ReplyDelete"I'll say this about the picture... if it isn't the first shot you see in the episode, then the episode is already ruined. So why put it out there?"
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about this for a few days because what you said provoked some thought.
I think that may be it... the PR peeps have no clue what it means.
ReplyDeleteI guess I would prefer if Shaw had an epic death (another one). We'll see.

ReplyDeleteI don't get what their fascination is with spoiling the END of episodes.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm as guilty as the they were, given I passed it on. I am going to delete my message answering Gina's question.
ReplyDeleteWhen you consider all the people who saw 503 at Chuckfest3 who didn't pass on spoilers, it is an odd thing to do. And it wasn't even vague, like they thought it was.
It's like whenever they get a spoiler, they can't help themselves. They have to give the final line for some reason. Or the final scene. And they think people won't figure it out but fans aren't idiots. THEY ALWAYS FIGURE IT OUT.
ReplyDeleteI generally don't mind spoilers and usually read people's reactions to the episodes prior to watching it since I'm 5 hours behind the east coast.

ReplyDeleteOh and I found the link, thanks.
