CHUCK YOU the PODCAST - Episode 1 - Chuck Vs. the Zoom

Brand new podcast? Not really, it is just Chuck You Tuesday with a different name, but we start at #1 because... I do silly things like that. Oh and I will make a new graphic later.

We discuss Chuck Vs. the Zoom, episode 5.01! I actually think we didn't curse ONCE in the entire thing so your young ones may be able to listen, but you should probably listen first to make sure.

  1. Wendy and Magnus--

Thanks for doing that so quickly.

It's funny that Magnus mentioned Castle. After watching the show live and not being able to get into the baseball game, I had a "what do I do now" feeling. The podcast filled that time.

Wendy, I'm looking forward to attending Chuckfest. I guess I'll be watching Chuck in my hotel next Friday. Room Service!

  2. God, how I missed all this chuck things with you Magnus. I mean your podcast, your voice :P ;)
    The episode
It was Better than I expected :).
I mostly agreed everything you said.
And Chuck and Sarah well, they are cute, but.... well , I think I need to accept this tame tone of thier relationship now.
that is why my favorite moment was when the Guy touched or stroking Sarah's ass . Yes I'm perv like that , get use to it :).
although when Morgan calling Sarah his Girl, I paused a little. :S.
although He touched Sarah more than Chuck so , May be ther is a new love in the air?!! :S.
But as I said it wasn't as bad.
One more thing, this whole Decker thing hmm ............. pff. XD

    ReplyDelete
  3. We didn't touch on Decker because I totally forgot about it. But there is NOTHING about that stuff that interests me.

    ReplyDelete
  4. *sighs* You don't know how much I needed this after watching my poor pretty Rangers lose, especially after snatching defeat from the jaws of victory last night.

    ReplyDelete
  5. The part where Morgan says he's about to open a can of whoop ass and the guy smacks him in the back of the head and it knocked him out was funny.

Then later Casey was smacking Morgan to wake him up and then he woke up but passed out again.

Who says Morgan wasn't funny in this episode.

I wasn't bothered by the stuff about the house.

  6. "I wasn't bothered by the stuff about the house."

    Crap story telling device.

  7. Just finished the podcast. Very Nice. I think my overall favorite funny scene is a strange one. When Sarah walks into Castle and Morgan leaves, Chuck just sort of stares into space, like he knows whats coming. Then they bicker and at the end she just sort of glares at him. I don't know why but that whole sequence killed me. Very married. I had to rewind it 3 times.

  8. Nice Podcast you and Wendy where great and you both had some interesting observations on the episode

    * I said this in the previous thread but il say it again Chuck and Ellie moment in the Castle was by far the best hart moment of the episode

    * Id like to congratulate Wendy for her observation on the first Morgan fight scene
I thought i was nitpicking when i noticed from the glimpse at Morgans face in the air you can clearly tell its not the same actor
But im with Magnus on this one i dont find it funny at all and i think its pretty bad to see scenes like this on a show that had a lot of authenticity in fight scenes
with actors doing their own stuff (when Chuck was in a fight you could see Zachary is the one throwing the kick same goes for Yvonne as Sarah)

    * the house hunting side story
in the writers defense this was one of the few options they had left to get Chuck and Sarah scenes on the show
Chuck is no longer the intersect so Sarah is no longer paired with him for missions as we could see she is paired with Morgan now
Also Chuck and Sarah being a cute platonic couple takes away the option of playing the steamy scenes card used by other shows

    * The only point where i disagree with you is the dance scene between Morgan and Sarah
its the first time in ages when we get to see the actors let loose and perform a sexy routine together without any hold backs
so i dont understand what you dislike about this scene

Hopefully your GeekFurious review will come out soon and i can see your detailed opinion on the episode

    ReplyDelete
  9. I don't mind that there is a house story to it... I mind how it was handled. It was cheesy.

And Morgan shouldn't have any sexy scenes with Sarah. He is Chuck's best bud and if my best bud touched my girl, I would murder him. But my problem with that scene was in how unintentionally funny it was. It should have played more on the height differences and made it ridiculous on purpose, instead, the height difference is just there and we are supposed to be entertained by Morgan's coolness?

Morgan as the Intersect works on some level, but mostly for laughs, not cools.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I agree in theory Morgan shouldn't have sexy scenes with Sarah
but since the people involved in this show stopped the Chuck/Sarah sexy times seasons ago i think pairing her with Morgan is the only way they can change the pace from the usual Chuck and Sarah pecks/hugs and provide some male/female sexy scenes without disturbing the 'Charah' shippers

On a semi related note i remember when someone asked you in a previous thread(when the Chuck clip with Sarah in lingerie was shown on Leno) if that scene is sexier then the belly dance scene
you answered with something like "wait and see how the whole scene looks like" after watching the entire scene i have to say that for me it was more of a wasted opportunity to show us Chuck and Sarah as a hot married young couple : (

And even though im happy we get to see Sarah doing sexy moves on a guy(in this case Morgan) it kinda feels a little bit wrong for the hottest scene of the episode to be between Morgan and Sarah but at least they didn't kissed : )

    ReplyDelete
  11. "I agree in theory Morgan shouldn't have sexy scenes with Sarah

You have said some silly things... but this takes the cake. Morgan and Sarah shouldn't have ANY sexy time. Just give Chuck and Sarah more sexy time. Simple.

HOW MUCH CRACK DO YOU SMOKE BEFORE YOU POST HERE?!

    ReplyDelete
  12. "you answered with something like "wait and see how the whole scene looks like" "

I also said I didn't like black lingerie. But I love the scene. I just don't find it hot.

    ReplyDelete
  13. WEED ONLY! :))

"Morgan and Sarah shouldn't have ANY sexy time. Just give Chuck and Sarah more sexy time. Simple."

MORE? they have to give them ANY before we can ask for more:)

Since you are well informed in regards to the show you have any idea what happened with the Chuck/Sarah sexy dynamic and spectacular kisses? i remember you talked a little about this last season
Initially i thought they where trying to make the show more family friendly but since they are still using a lot of Sarah in lingerie and Morgan/Sarah for leggy dance scenes family friendly doesn't seem to be the reason

    ReplyDelete
  14. "MORE?"

    Yes, more.

I have no idea why they went in the less hot Chuck and Sarah direction. It is very puzzling and mostly dumb. I realize you can't do hot episodes with them every week but you can definitely have hot stuff between them... not just sweet stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  15. For some reason in TV, married people--or even people in a committed relationship--aren't given the sexy treatment. Last year's "Undercovers" tried to present a sexy married couple and look what happened to that.

Meanwhile, if there is a slightly scandalous relationship like the one going on in The Good Wife, you can have hot scenes like crazy.

Sex in committed relationships in comedies is usually treated by the writers for laughs. That lingerie scene was very funny and that was its purpose.

I don't know why this is a general TV rule. Maybe, as with Undercovers, it just doesn't work with the audience. But, it's there. Maybe there are exceptions to the rule, but I don't watch enough shows with married people as characters to know about those exceptions.

    ReplyDelete
  16. "Last year's "Undercovers" tried to present a sexy married couple and look what happened to that."

That was the least of their problems.

    ReplyDelete
  17. "I realize you can't do hot episodes with them every week but you can definitely have hot stuff between them... not just sweet stuff."

Heh i guess they have their reasons to keep things on the sweet side for Chuck and Sarah
even though it sounds pretty silly to have two young attractive actors who proved in the past they can perform great on screen passion(their motel scene from Colonel is in top20 TV's best make out scenes) and use them only for pecks and hugs 99 % of the time

I read several reviews after "The Zoom" and the common point is they all see Morgansect arc as something that is not going to last i wonder if Fedak feels the same : ))

    ReplyDelete
  18. At least I put up the new podcast banner... the other one sucked.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes the new podcast banner makes things better : )

    ReplyDelete
  20. Awesome, awesome podcast here, MagnusRazorback guy. :D But seriously. I missed you guys, and I missed this fandom (most of it anyway), and I definitely missed the show.

    ReplyDelete
  21. @MediaSavant
"Sex in committed relationships in comedies is usually treated by the writers for laughs. That lingerie scene was very funny and that was its purpose."

I recommend you watch Modern Family (there is a reason they take Emmys for comedy every year) and take a look at Julie Bowen and Ty Burell who are playing Phil and Claire Dunphy (a married couple with kids)
once every few episodes they have sexy times and they do it in a very natural and funny manner

So not using a sexy dynamic between characters if they are in a committed relationship or married is not a general TV rule its just a practice used on some shows and unfortunately Chuck is one of them

    ReplyDelete
  22. 1.0 is worse than I imagined (outside of worst case scenarios). GRIMM did a 2.1 following it... which is pretty impressive.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Had to point out that I kind of agree with Wendy's view on the dance scene. As soon as they walked out on the dance floor area I chuckled at the Yvonne/Josh height difference. I understand your point about the quality and the irony of them trying to make Morgan look cooler than physically Josh can be, but I was willing to forgive that instance since it made me laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I laughed at that scene too... but only for the height issue. Then I stopped laughing when it was obvious they missed out on the opportunity to make the height difference funny on purpose.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yeah, that is really bad and with the way Chuck trends... is it possible to have a negative rating? Because I think we could get there if it doesn't get pulled first.

The only thing good about it is it will shut up the small portion of fans that wanted a back order.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I watch Modern Family It's a perfect example of how married sex is played for laughs. It's not sexy in any way.

The 1.0 rating wouldn't have looked so bad if Grimm's ratings hadn't been so good.

    ReplyDelete
  27. My favorite is when people try to say that baseball hurt CHUCK but IMPROVED GRIMM! LOL.

    Delusions.

Well, any discussions about ordering more episodes of CHUCK should die now.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Friday finals don't come until 4pm Monday, btw, but even a bump to 1.1 is not impressive.

Which delusional fans are making that argument?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I predicted Chuck would get a 1.0 with 3.5 million viewers a few days ago.

I said it right here on this website.

My reasoning for that prediction is that Chuck's fanbase being were unloyal and abandoning the show during the second half of the season last year.

Remember it went as low as 4.1 million with 1.3 in the 18-49 demo on Monday.

I figure with the move to Fridays where less people watch t.v. it would drop even lower than that.

I thought it was going to get similar ratings to what Fringe gets.

On the plus side maybe some Chuck fans use DVR and recorded it and will watch it later.

Regarding Grimm NBC really promoted that show and it looked interesting.

I don't know if the ratings will be as good next week.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Since this is the last season and the fans know that the ratings won't matter anymore, they'll use DVR or internet to watch it later...

    ReplyDelete
  31. And I love how everyone excuses the ratings with some OBVIOUS reasoning for them being low. This is called the final stage of grief.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I already knew Chuck wasn’t gonna get back ordered. Simply getting a fifth season was a miracle. My only concern now is that they may opt not to air the rest of season 5 if the ratings get too bad. Can they even do that, or is Chuck’s fate pretty much sealed?

Regarding this episode though I can see why the ratings were low. It had its shining moments, but all in all it was underwhelming. I’m now convinced that Morgan being the Intersect was a terrible idea, no matter how funny they manage to make it. And last night’s episode was funny, but just the idea of Morgan “zooming” and running in to save the day makes me want to tune out.

Also Chuck and Sarah felt off. It’s been a while since we’ve gotten a steamy scene from them, but even last season when they were toned down I still thought they were great. Now they feel fizzled out, like the chemistry’s not there anymore. It’s the first time I’ve ever been truly disappointed in their scenes together.

So yeah, all in all not the best. Not the worst, but not the best.

    ReplyDelete
  33. What?

I said it in one of the recent threads where everyone was talking about what ratings Chuck might get.

    You were there actively participating.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sure you did.

"I already knew Chuck wasn’t gonna get back ordered."

DID YOU?! DID YOU?!?!? YOU KNEW IT?! Because not even NBC or WB KNEW IT until last night.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I was just curious - do fans need to worry about NBC pulling Chuck before the 13 episodes air?

    ReplyDelete
  36. While it COULD happen, it is more likely that they would first put it on Saturdays. They are getting the show for so cheap, I doubt they need to dump it totally. And even then, they would just show it online. You will see all of those 13 episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  37. "Regarding this episode though I can see why the ratings were low. It had its shining moments, but all in all it was underwhelming."

I always love when people say this. How do people know it's going to be "underwhelming" unless they watch it? And, if they watched it, they were part of the ratings!

If I read one more person say "the ratings don't matter", I will scream.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Does NBC actually have any highly rated shows.

6.5 million in primetime is considered great by they're standards.

I remember NBC having huge ratings from The Cosby Show to the early 2000's.

Now NBC gets ratings closer to the CW. LOL.

The thing I can't figure out is NBC has some very good shows but the masses ignore them all of them.

    ReplyDelete
  39. "If I read one more person say "the ratings don't matter", I will scream."

  40. "Morgan becoming the new Intersect was obviously a way for the writers to give him the purpose he so sorely lacked every time they forced him to participate in a mission. After watching how the directors/writers and most of all Joshua Gomez dealt with the Intersect plot, I have a newfound respect for Zachary Levi given just how easy he made everything look, from the basic flashes to the fight sequences to the confidence he imbued in the various dances, he brought a charm and awkward elegance to Chuck under the influence of the Intersect which Gomez, unfortunately, does not. His big intro involved climbing through a pool and making Scarlett Johansson-in-Iron Man 2-esque beauty poses while the camera moved behind a pillar in order to hide his stunt double’s face. Later he had to dance, which really entailed looking gleeful while Sarah did all the work." - Daemon tv review.

Enough said! Fedak must know that with someone like Zach as Chuck it is easier to reverse his looks and attitude and make him into a geek (ala season 1) then to suddenly buld Josh into a hero? I mean Zach had the looks already, the charm and chemistry with every female actor to ever grace Chuck and the physical ability ro some day pull off the intersect kung fu...Zach is like that kid at school who can do anything...smart, jock, good looking, etc. That is a very unique characteristic..that kid at school is probably like the only 1 or 2 in a year. Fedak was so lucky to get him to do this to pull it off! and he actually things Josh can do the same? has he lost the plot? maybe if he stopped saying umm arr all the time and staring at the floor he would not this morgansect is a terrible idea, full stop. arghhh...I blame that for the terrible ratings...the morgansect.

    ReplyDelete
  41. @Gina I agree with what you said
But to be honest its not only the difference in talent in my opinion the biggest difference between them is the mentality
when it comes to preparation for their roles Zac and Josh approach things in a different manner

When Zac got the 2.0 intersect at the end of season two he started physical training so he could perform his fight scenes and look believable doing it
On the opposite end Josh is happy to admit he mostly relies on the great stunt team and he even said every time we see Morgan throwing a kick we should know its probably his double because he has no leg skills

    ReplyDelete
  42. Every year the same idiotic, illogical, ignorant statements are made by fans about Nielsen, ratings, the viewing audience, and why shows get low or high ratings.

YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. Experts in the field, with decades of experience, aren't as confident as you pretend to be about everything related to it. Now, if you were speaking from some authority, I would at least take your guessing as being based on historical data. Not on wild conjecture.

    ReplyDelete
  43. "When Zac got the 2.0 intersect at the end of season two he started physical training so he could perform his fight scenes and look believable doing it"

NO HE DIDN'T. And I know this for a fact.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I wasn't that impressed with last nights episode. Although I'm never a big fan of season premiers, they often feel awkward to me. So I'm hopeful the rest of the season will be more satisfying. But I'm glad it's back to get it's due ending. :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. As awkward as your spelling of premieres? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  46. I wonder who Magnus' recent rant about not knowing anything about the ratings was aimed at.

If it was aimed at one poster in particular, everyone on this site or people in general.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I haven't made any illogical or ignorant statements about the ratings.

All i basically said was that the low ratings were harldy surprising since the ratings dropped down to 1.3 on Mondays during the second half of the season last year.

I correctly predicted a few days ago on this blog that Chuck would get a 1.0 with 3.5 million viewers.

So much for Chuck's loyal fanbase.

    Brian

    ReplyDelete
  48. What NBC's press release said:

At 8 p.m. ET, the fifth season premiere of “Chuck” (1.0/3 in 18-49, 3.4 million viewers overall) was the #1 non-sports choice in the time period among ABC, CBS, NBC and CW in adults 18-49 (tie), men 18-49 and men 25-54. "Chuck" grew from its first half-hour to its second by 10 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.1 from a 1.0).

Against extraordinary competition from Fox's coverage of the decisive Game 7 of the World Series, "Chuck" earned NBC's top non-sports rating in this time period since April 8 and biggest overall audience excluding sports since April 15."

Yeah, there's that big tune-out because the episode was "underwhelming". They were underwhelmed so much, they told other people to tune into the 2nd half. "Hey, Joe, turn on Chuck. You will be underwhelmed!"

(In truth, a 0.1 rise in the second half isn't incredible. I'm just joking about the theory that the quality of the current episode leads to low ratings.)

    ReplyDelete
  49. "All i basically said was that the low ratings were harldy surprising since the ratings dropped down to 1.3 on Mondays during the second half of the season last year."

Which is an ignorant way to compare ratings for October. Since ratings ALWAYS drop as the weather gets WARMER. You may have been right in your expectations but for the wrong reasons. Using your logic, CHUCK should have returned last year to 1.3. It got a 2.0.

    ReplyDelete
  50. **Yeah, there's that big tune-out because the episode was "underwhelming". They were underwhelmed so much, they told other people to tune into the 2nd half. "Hey, Joe, turn on Chuck. You will be underwhelmed!"**

    LOL!

I swear, fans are so dumb sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  51. No, I meant if you looked at the ratings in the spring last year around episode 16.

With daylight savings time and the return of Dancing with the Stars Chuck dropped to a 1.3.

Those Chuck fans dropped the show and haven't returned.

Hence the 1.1 rating last night.

    ReplyDelete
  52. So... spring is now cold weather?

And again, the same thing happened the year before (though, not as low). The ratings dropped as it got warmer. Yet they picked up again when the show returned. The notion that you were confident it wouldn't happen again is based on reading your data selectively, not accurately.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Not that I want MediaSavant's head to explode or anything, but would someone mind explaining to me why any of this matters at this point, at least past the point of a purely academic discussion?

Unless Chuck had some huge rating surge (never likely), it was never getting an extension, and unless it completely tanks, they'll finish showing the rest of the episodes exactly where it is. So...who cares? From my perspective, Season 5 is just an unexpected treat, and I'll take it as such and be content.

    Jim

P.S. Grimm did not suck. At least not enough to keep me from trying it a couple more times.

P.P.S. Kudos to Schwedak and the writers for making the loss of the Volkoff funds much more palatable than I had expected. $42 million on jets and shrimp and the rest frozen by Decker? That, I totally buy.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Chuck could get an 0.8 next week and then NBC might just go ahead and cancel the show.

The cast is filming something like episode 8 or 9 so wouldn't it be funny if they cancelled it before they filmed all 13.

We are disussing the ratings because evidently everyone besides me were kinda surprised by such a low rating.

And you know it's a habit from back when the ratings mattered more than they do now.

    ReplyDelete
  55. "Chuck could get an 0.8 next week and then NBC might just go ahead and cancel the show."

I get the impression that this is not the case. Someone (Magnus, MediaSavant) correct me if I'm wrong, but I assume it would not be in anyone's financial interest at this point to kill the show prematurely even if the ratings really hit rock bottom. In the worst case, they would finish out by airing it at 4 a.m. on a Sunday, night charging almost nothing for advertising, just to give Warner Brothers what it wants for syndication.

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yeah i don't think they would actually cancel it this close to it being over.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Just a question out of curiosity.

Since Chuck is not competing against the World series next week do you think it would be realistic to expect a bump up in the ratings.

Say 5 million viewers with 1.5 in the 18-49 demo. given that Chuck generally does do better in the fall.

    ReplyDelete
  58. They wouldn't cancel the show without first filming the finale right?

Enjoyed the episode well enough but far too much Morgan and far too less Chuch & Sarah sexytime.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Im in doubt with whats more funny people saying the quality of the show and the story line have nothing to do with ratings(fans quitting the show after season three was probably a coincidence)

or Josh Schwartz tweeting surprised how some fans did not tune in to see the thing they said they hate ever since they saw the season four cliffhanger(Morgan replacing Chuck as the intersect)

Its a though one but i will go with Josh Schwartz he even called Season Five (Morgansect season)a love letter to the fans : )

    ReplyDelete
  60. Jim, it may not matter any more... but, it may have mattered two-days ago. More I cannot say.

"Chuck could get an 0.8 next week and then NBC might just go ahead and cancel the show."

No, that wouldn't happen. NBC views CHUCK much like it did FNL. They are getting it for practically nothing. They can run it on Saturday night and make money on it. Plus, I am pretty sure they have some kind of exclusive rights to online revenue at NBC.com for ads collected for a couple of months (I don't know the exact details). So, worst case scenario, they would burn off the season there.

"Since Chuck is not competing against the World series next week do you think it would be realistic to expect a bump up in the ratings."

Problem for CHUCK next week is that it won't get all the promotion it has been getting. So, it could get worse. It could also get better. There is no way to know. But next week should give us a feeling for the rest of the run.

"Im in doubt with whats more funny people saying the quality of the show and the story line have nothing to do with ratings"

Quality has little to nothing to do with specific episode ratings. How do you know if the episode is going to be bad BEFORE YOU WATCH IT? Now, if the ratings drop DURING the episode, sure. You can say that it was quality. But if they go up at the end of the episode? As they did this week? Then what? People were so pissed off by the quality that they tuned in MORE?

    ReplyDelete
  61. I didn't say quality and story line influences the current episode ratings but it clearly affects future episodes

For example in season 3 when many viewers quit the show because they where pissed of by the story line or whatever and didn't came back

Or now in season five when viewers where so pissed about last seasons resolution with Morgan replacing Chuck as the intersect that they didn't tune in to see how the new dynamic works(at least that's what i read on other TV forums)

This is why i find Schwartz & Fedak comments hilarious they take the show in a unpopular direction and they complain fans are not watching the show anymore : )

I am in no position to judge show runners but as my humble opinion :

When you know you have only 13 episodes left and you want to sell the last season as "a love letter to the fans" shouldn't you use elements that already work for the show build on that and give a proper send off ?

Instead they opted to try new concepts and new dynamics
not even the negative feedback from the critics and fans in regard to the Morgansect element didn't stop them from making it a main focus of this season

    ReplyDelete
  62. "For example in season 3 when many viewers quit the show because they where pissed of by the story line or whatever and didn't came back "

That's an assumption, nothing more. Unless you have proof, such as interviews with the Nielsen viewers who quit watching, then you are just blowing hot air out of your arse.

"Or now in season five when viewers where so pissed about last seasons resolution with Morgan replacing Chuck as the intersect"

More arse blowing. But then again, you have never needed actual proof of anything to make a statement, so why start now? You know, like when you just said that Zac spent time getting his body ready for season 3 fighting sequences. You just pull this stuff out of your arse.

You find their comments hilarious. I find your comments dumb.

    ReplyDelete
  63. "But then again, you have never needed actual proof of anything to make a statement, so why start now? You know, like when you just said that Zac spent time getting his body ready for season 3 fighting sequences. You just pull this stuff out of your arse."

All knowing great god Magnus i know Zac did physical training for season 3 because he said it himself in a on set interview at the beginning of season 3(contrary to your belief i don't pull stuff out of imagination)

Here is a link for the interview :
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDsI8c6g5_s
what he said : "ive been working with an instructor working on flexibility, kicks and stuff like that"
Was he lying or what ?

    ReplyDelete
  64. This is what you said earlier:

"When Zac got the 2.0 intersect at the end of season two he started physical training so he could perform his fight scenes and look believable doing it"

He did stretching and such, that he references in the video, FOR THE EPISODES. He didn't do any prior workouts. He didn't suddenly get a trainer following the end of season 2 to get himself limber. That is what your comment suggests. He didn't do it. Obviously he would work out while shooting the episode or he would get hurt.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Every actor who has to do any physical activity does the same stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I thought working with a instructor on flexibility and kicks means a little more then stretching a little before you shoot the scene

"Every actor who has to do any physical activity does the same stuff."

Have you read the recent article with Josh Gomez where he talks about how he relies on the stunt team for his fight scenes and admits every time we see Morgan throwing a kick its his body double doing it because he has not leg skills

I mention it because i think its relevant to the big difference between Chucks fight scenes as the intersect and Morgans

  67. Since you guys are ratings enthusiasts here is how Chuck performed on repeat :
    "MattMitovich
Ratings snippet: Saturday's CHUCK premiere repeat drew 1.93 mil and a 0.3 demo; GRIMM 2.3 mil/0.4."

  68. To me saying the ratings don't "matter" and saying you don't care anymore about them are two different things.

They always matter, even to a show on its last legs. They matter to the advertising department at NBC because if the show doesn't deliver the ratings they promised the advertisers, they owe those advertisers makegoods.

They matter to a show keeping its timeslot or losing it. They matter in terms of the show becoming a laughing stock and a joke in certain circles. They mattered in ways I can't discuss.

Maybe the degree to which you care about such things varies. Maybe you don't care at all. But, say you don't care. Don't say they don't matter.

For the record, I do not want the show to get additional episodes and never have. I'm fine with it ending there. But, it would bother me if the show doesn't get the audience I believe it deserves and becomes a joke because so few people are watching it it that it becomes what the media is talking about and nothing else.

That probably sounds silly to some people, but we all have different lives.

  69. I think that the positive side of the low ratings is that now we shoud not see any more comments about a pickup or a season 6, that are now beyond a miracle, IMO.
And as I have decided to follow Magnus' suggestion, I will just sit here and enjoy the ride to its natural end...
Now I am only concerned about last comment by MS, I don't think that the low rating might in any way affect the quality of the show in these last episodes (good or bad, it won't change), I only hope that it won't affect the people involved in it. And of course, that it won't be cancelled, but again, I think that it is highly unlikely.

About the episode, I mostly agree with Magnus, but I will comment on GF...

  70. When are the repeats on Saturdays?

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  71. There are no repeats on Saturday... but there was one repeat THIS Saturday because I suppose NBC thought some people missed watching due to the World Series.

  72. I got the repeats on my east coast feed ( Detroit ) last night , but when I checked the west coast feed at 8:00 ( Seattle ) it was pre-empted for some movie .

  73. I love how some Chuck fans find the funniest excuses for the poor ratings
Instead of realizing Grim is a new show and its normal to get better ratings on the premiere night they used baseball as an excuse(both shows where against the baseball game but somehow the game helped Grim and buried Chuck)
Looking forward to see the explanation for Saturday... maybe they will get real creative and use astrology or something cool like that :)

  74. First off , what ever happens this season I'm just going to accept it . It's hard for me to halt Fedak and co. when with how they wrote the S4 finale thinking that that was probably it . Giving Morgan the intersect and having ( then ) unlimited money so to me a perfect way to end the series . You could just imagine all the possibilities in your head of the shenanigans that they could have got into . But now seeing it .... hard to live up to ones imagination of it . I always wanted the show to end with like Jeff getting the intersect lol .

I remember last year DR used the analogy of something like Chuck ( the show ) was like a steady relationship and Community was like the hot mistress or something to that effect . Which is kinda the way I feel about it now too . I used to be hardcore checking all the Chuck sites for discussion and seeing peoples opinion on certain aspects of the show . But since the Summertime I haven't checked any of them just Chuckgasmic . I still love the show and watch it Live ( not that it matters being in Canada ) but that's about it . I watched the premier once and haven't watched it since it aired albeit 2 days ago . Last year and the year before I would watch it twice the same night download it on iTunes and watch it a few times during the week . I do that with Community now .

I really enjoyed vs the Zoom . Well other than the Decker conspiracy stuff . One guy with an agenda that ends up working for another guy I could handle , but having Decker talk to all those people at the end ... really ? Other than that I thought it was a typical Chuck episode . I like Morgan as the intersect right now though as DR said he should be used for far more comedy with the intersect than the cool factor . Like Chuck said " they're working out the kinks " . I look forward to what's to come in the next few weeks .

  75. I still feel that way... CHUCK is the girl I married. COMMUNITY is the hot chick I am crazy hot for, still.

  76. Magnus i know you stay away from spoilers this season but i remember when Fedak said in an interview they have something great planned for Chuck and Sarah this season you have any idea if he was referring to the Dream House superstory? : )

    ReplyDelete
  77. I thought he said they had something planned that would blow people's minds or something like that.

I don't know what he was talking about specifically, but I know a thing or two about what is planned and I would guess he did not mean the house.

    ReplyDelete
  78. If Fedak said mind blowing they will probably get a dog or something sexy like that : ))

  79. Magnus in case Chuck ratings keep sinking and they cancel the show this year would that mean the whole 13 episodes will be available sooner?

    ReplyDelete
  80. I have no idea how they would handle that.

  81. Super-duper ratings analysis just added to Geekfurious. You've never seen so many numbers.

If it doesn't matter, don't read it.

  82. Quick question from a non baseball fan. Did game 7 of the world series end during Chuck on the West Coast? If so, does that not hurt Chuck more than Grimm?

Curious to see what happens next week, not that it matters :)

  83. In the Pacific time zone, the game went from 5:02 to 8:29PM. Game ratings grow as the game proceeds. So Chuck competed with a lower rated hour on the East Coast, but the highest rated hour on the West Coast.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Mind you, the west coast only represents something like 1/5th of the viewer base. So, that would mean CHUCK should have only suffered 1/5th the ratings loss of GRIMM. Which would be... 0.2. Not 1.1.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Yes, most of the viewers (and population) are in the Eastern and Central Time Zones.
