  1. Wow, I could barely hear your podcast over the sound of that raps deafening awesomeness. That guy did an amazing job crafting that song.

The podcast as usual was great. Always love hearing your take on things. And I always love to hear someone praise Archer. Its the funniest show on tv to me. And if you or anyone else that loves Archer hasn't checked out Frisky Dingo, you should. It was a perfectly hysterical show by the same writer and he voiced the lead characters. I can't recommend either shows highly enough.

  2. I laughed and cheered and laughed listening to the wrap party rap. AWESOME job Bob!!! Also loved the podcast. You said something so funny but you don't allow curse words in the comments but it was "If murder was a **** I would suck it". I rewound it five times. If the show is canceled next month I think I will miss you guys most of all.

  4. Wow. That rape.. talk about epitome of bossdom. Could listen to that again.

As for the review.. nice work you guys. I'm real excited for next week and seeing Papa Walker.. however we refer to him. There's Mama and Papa B, so I'll call him Papa Walker.

Anyway.. the new episode this past week was just great. It was nice to see the situation flipped around with Chuck being calm, 'cool', and collected while Sarah was the one worrying, Haha. The scene between them at the end, though.. when Sarah realized what the 'prenup' was and her facial reaction changed? Priceless.

Volkoff this week.. Dalton is always a genius. Just an absolute joy to watch, really. Him using the trashcan for the swab, or him saying 'everyone hates me' just so generally.. I laughed so hard at most, if not all of his lines.

Keep up the great work guys!

  5. Thanks for the rap. Where can I download it?

  6. I haven't put it up anywhere other than my podcast. I don't know of Bob wants it like that. If he has a place, I will post a link.

  7. Great podcast . The rap was genius and very fitting for the wrap party . It was nice getting your comments about the ratings . I don't know if I'm supposed to feel more upbeat or not , but that's the way I took it . Which was very welcome after getting up this morning to news of the 1.3 :(

  8. Oh crap, I just noticed my typo of rap in the first sentence, rofl. If there's a possible way to edit comments on here.. mind editing out that 'e'? That'd be pretty awesome.

And yeah, I wouldn't mind getting ahold of it on itunes or something.

  9. Great podcast. It's always good to hear your feedback regarding not only the episode itself, but the bigger picture also.

And WTF was Yvonne's video? I love her, but that was really bad. I am not a fan of collegehumor.com, so I might be biased. I am much more a funnyordie kinda gal.

    Regarding the episode:

I also loved the little trash can inside the Volkoff cave. It was a nice touch and I laughed a lot. Timothy Dalton is so amazing he might have made the collegehumor video work, had he been cast :) (Just kidding - making that clear before being attacked by a horde of huns saying Yvonne is the greatest and bla bla bla).

And the wine Chuck and Sarah were drinking was a bottle of Chateau Le Franc :)

Yvonne's hair was very pretty during the whole episode.

Good that they finally addressed the name thing.

And the Evora was amazing. BTW, Evora is the name of a portuguese town, but I have no idea if that has anything to do with the car being called that way.

    Liked the promo as well.

  10. Great podcast Magnus - fun, informative - did I say fun?
So from all that was said, the one line that is still ringing in my ears was near the beginning - while talking about how Yvonne's video and how things end influence how the whole is remembered - you then mumbled a situation we may find ourselves in if Chuck is not renewed (or words to that effect).
So, we keep coming back to the cliffhanger. And I guess your plea to TPTB not to do this has fallen on deaf ears.
Man, if it does end there I am SO looking forward to your postmortem.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Well, I hear they have made some revisions to the finale but not to the cliffhanger moment. I still hold out some hope that they change that.

    ReplyDelete
  12. And if they do - will you share in the postmortem?
    Please?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I guess... eventually, at least. Maybe on FYW once CYT is over. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Bob Dougherty is a genius! I love that rap (not rape like the other person lol)

    ReplyDelete
  15. listened to the rap 10 times already and it puts a big smile on my face. magnus when are you going to put out your thrash album?? this is the second time I can remember you doing some kind of metal screaming in an intro. will you post tracks from your band ever? Id love to hear it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Heh... I don't think I will ever post my music from back in the day. I just did that intro for fun because it made me laugh. I actually cut out me doing a cookie monster growl that I thought might scare the kiddies (who shouldn't be listening to a curse-filled podcast anyway!).

As for the rap, I think I have listened to it 50 times already myself.

    ReplyDelete
  17. BTW, I am just curious to see what on earth some other Mary-Poppins-wannabe-websites are going to write in order to spin the 1.3. That will be great fun.

I also hope you spill the beans on several topics on FYW when CYT is over. One of which is the alternate idea about agent X that you read and found good. I think I read it also and am very curious to see if it was the same thing :)

You were right about the new AV Club guy. The review was very good and fun to read. I hope the last reviewer is currently reviewing "Sh%t my dad says", "Glee" and "Rules of engagement". That should be punishment enough. Well, they could also make him recap all episodes from "Til Death"... but I believe that would fall into the category of psychological torture.

  19. They posted Sarah's prenup (with Jeffster comments) on nbc.com. Now, I know someone from the site probably wrote it up real quick but Chuck was going to get screwed.:) She was going to get the apartment, everything in it, and he was going to have to pay her 3K in alimony a month. He was going to get to keep his nerd herder though, I guess to live in.;)

    ReplyDelete
  20. I have been trying to find CHUCK Wrap Party Rap - Bob Dougherty but I can't find it. I thought it was an awesome rap and I am not really in rap so that is saying something. so can someone put up a link to where I can download the song please and thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thanks for sharing the rap song. I haven't watched the Yvonne video and I think I'll avoid it now, since I trust your opinion on such things.

I also think I may have to start watching Archer. Do you think the show was consciously doing an Archer reference in those scenes or was it coincidental? People going to the alps should wear turtlenecks.

The Chuck "time warp" in regards to air travel was in full force by having Chuck still wearing the turtleneck when he got back to Castle after what would have had to be at least a 12-hour trip from Switzerland to Burbank. You'd think he'd change on the plane.

They crack me up with the travel stuff even though I don't think it's intentional. It's so Chuck. I think you guys had a laugh about the super-fast travel to faraway lands in a previous podcast.

But, he actually looked good in it.

  23. Considering Pilot season has basically wrapped up . If NBC wanted to hang on to Zach and Yvonne for future projects ( or if Zach and Yvonne wanted too still do tv ) I could see it that NBC orders a FINAL 13 eps of Chuck for next season , WB is happy they'll get to 91 ( assuming a deal on the licensing fee ) . That way production would be done on the show before the end of the year and whatever NBC has for pilots they could cast ZL and YS in them .

    ReplyDelete
  24. @Sue- thanks for the heads up on the agreement being posted the on NBC website. I almost fell out of my chair laughing. Sarah was taking Chuck to the cleaners lol! Although, from a technical standpoint I fail to see how it would have protected Sarah's secret bail fund, since there is a clause in there that says "all monies in individual AND joint bank accounts shall be divided equally". Unless the account isn't in Sarah's name it would be fair game. Regardless, it gave me a good laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @OPD- Right?! The actual prenup was funnier than the Jeffster comments, and the document they laid out would have beared absolutely no relevance to the reason she had it drawn up.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The "actual prenup" is just a joke. It shouldn't be taken seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I know that's why we were laughing about it.:)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Right... like you all aren't already hiring lawyers to comb through it for accuracy.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well, duh. I called them before I even started reading the thing. Who wants to waste their time reading a document on the internet, who's origins are based on a comedy show, if said document isn't legally binding? Honestly, how stupid do you think fans are?;)

  31. FYW love it! Enjoyed the episode a lot and I really like Yvonne's music video parody for the pure silliness and it looks like she had a blast doing it, the Katy Perry and Ke$ha were wierd but I just love the Lady GaGa outfit, lyrics and Yvonne's posing had me in tears of laughter.

    ReplyDelete
  32. @ellen: Yep... oh wait, we had that already with Casey. :)

    Bob

    ReplyDelete
  33. I should mention, I had that Yvonne singing info wrong. She did not sing it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. @Bob yeap but they can make sarah's character in more critical condition..i dont know...

    ellen

    ReplyDelete
  35. Maybe it will end with Orion coming back, righting some wrongs, showing some people the error of their ways and putting his family back together. Then Scott Bakula can finally Leap.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Magnus- I didn't need a lawyer to comb through, I'm a second year law student, no prenup experience but have taken contrac law :) And yes like Sue I just appreciated the humor of how ridiculous it was that Sarah was going to take the apartment AND force Chuck to pay alimony!

    -OPD

    ReplyDelete
  37. I don't know if NBC.com prenup was made this way on purpose, but that thing was screaming 'I want an argument'. I couldn't stop laughing at it. It really goes into my belief that it was done so she could (in a roundabout way) talk to him about it, and get some of her insecurities taken care of. Makes Sarah was freaking out so much more amusing, when he just signed it with no fuss.

And so glad that Yvonne wasn't really singing in that video. I couldn't believe that she was, but a few places were saying that was her. It just sound so off from her normal voice to be real.

  39. You know right now the only way I can see us coming back is if the NFL dispute keeps going and WB cut some sort of deal with NBC (S5 'Chuck and Sarah's Apartment!!). I mean the ratings could bounce back but I'm not too convinced about that right now, be very happy to be wrong though.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Awwwooga Awwwoooga brace for impact! Just saw a another fan picture on twitter relating to the last couple of days shooting. Should be an exciting finale.

    ReplyDelete
  41. So by now you've seen the picture from the Scrubs set that was leaked after yesterday's press day and I bet you are wondering like I am how they let this get out. It's already causing some outrage in certain vocal members of the fandom and if this is a preview of what is in store once this becomes more widespread, I'm going to check out of the social networks till after the finale. Really, all I want to do is enjoy the Final Four of the show I still love and I don't need others to temper that enjoyment.

That said, I do want to weigh in on the "Zero Cliffhanger Potential Scenes" before I give up the internet (yeah, like that's really possible). Yes, I admit, they are influenced by the picture, so here goes:

Sarah wakes up in the hospital with amnesia - no recollection of the last four years and asking for Bryce

Sarah is/is mistaken to be Agent X and the upload does not go well - only Ellie can save her

And my favorite - there is no cliffhanger hence "Zero Cliffhanger"

I do remember you saying that Sarah being hurt would have been a better cliffhanger than what is planned, so maybe the last one makes the most sense ;-)

Again, thanks Magnus! You've kept me entertained and informed and - you have been the voice of reason to an often *ahem* passionate fandom. I'll be watching for tweets to call me back to the mothership - er, blog - for updates.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Okay - I recant my Zero Cliffhanger Potential Scenarios. A comment I read on another blog just made a lot of sense to me ie: the cliffhanger at the end is not the climax of the Season 4 story. It's the start of the Season 5 story! Really fits with Fedak's comments about always being a prelude to the next season. Your comments too, come to think about it.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh, just saw the spoilertv pic from the finale. In a hospital: Volkoff is there (in normal clothes), Mama B is there, Sarah is wearing one of those hospital gowns and Ellie and Awesome are dressed as doctors. Chuck, Morgan and Casey are also in the picture.

    Misterious indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sarah may be pregnant?

    -pzy

    ReplyDelete
  45. Didn't I already say that the end of season 4 sets up season 5? Or did I never post that response?

    ReplyDelete
  46. You sure did already post that, Magnus.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yeah, Magnus, I know you posted about the terrible cliffhanger, but I could never imagine that they would actually do such a cliche of a pregnancy scare or a life-or-death situation as the cliffhanger. Lame and soap-opera-ish.

I am still secretly hoping that's not it. A mission/spy-life related cliffhanger would be much better (like the finales from seasons 2 or 3). No cliffhanger at all would be much better, but I've given up on that.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I don't think they would go there, but the idea of Ellie getting the intersect too keeps creeping in my mind.

    ReplyDelete
  51. rich says

A combination of recent spoilers makes me believe that Sarah gets injured or knocked out or badly hurt in 4.23.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Wow... ChuckNielsen.net... don't I already have several blogs detailing what you should do? Oh and spamming the planet? Seriously... who created that? It may be the worst idea anyone has ever come up with. Come on. Tell me who did that. I want to give them an award for total stupidity.

    ReplyDelete
  53. PeterO, what am I supposed to say?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Nielsen households aren't supposed to reveal their identity. If networks or stations find out who they are, they could game the system with bribery. Nielsen doesn't like that. Nielsen's customers don't like that.

It almost sounds like that site wants to out Nielsen families and get them thrown out of the system. Not smart.

    ReplyDelete
  55. First, I'm sorry about the virtually identical posts. The first didn't ask for a security entry so I didn't think it went through.

As far as what to say - well I'm not sure - but i was hoping you'd say something cause to me the silence means that the last day of shooting did not change the Zero cliff hanger. And although I don't like everything you like or dislike everything you dislike in the show, your sense of the show and the characters has always been right on in my mind. And now I keep thinking back to that seeming throw away line from the podcast about how something ends influences how the whole is remembered - you then mumbled a situation we may find ourselves in if Chuck is not renewed (or words to that effect) and well, I have to admit I'm concerned.

I am looking forward to enjoying these Final Four. I will wait to see the eps before I pass judgment. I am concerned that a show I love might in the end be - tarnished.

So no, I don't know what you should say. But hey, you're Magnus the Magnificent so please, say something because the silence is deafening.

And again, thanks for a very entertaining year!

    ReplyDelete
  56. dkd, yeah... it is a horrible idea. Oh and did you check out the site? They apparently found one person in Texas and marked it on the map. Cool. Now it will be easier for Nielsen to identify that household.

I am literally rolling on the floor, laughing.

    ReplyDelete
  57. PeterO, I removed the security question thing. If spam gets nutty, I will re-enable it.

The zero cliffhanger is still in effect.

I don't know if it can ruin the whole series... but I can't really talk about my feelings about it until we have all seen it and can discuss it.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'm getting the impression based on Magnus' view of the zero cliffhanger that it has nothing to do with character interactions or specific plot devices. In other words, it's not about someone dying or Chuck/Sarah wedding woes or . Instead, it's something that might fundamentally alter the premise of the show. Consider for example a scenario where we find out that Chuck has always been MUCH more in the know than he has let on and has basically been pulling everyone's strings for four years. That undermines a lot of what we've seen on screen while still being a "game changer". It's also stupid, so I'm sure that's not actually it. However, it might be something of that flavor.

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  59. Fair enough. I'll wait. I'll watch. We'll go from there.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Jim, at least you are thinking outside of the box.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Thank god Community already got renewed ! 1.4 ? It still beat Chuck ( barely ) but will NBC when making it's final decision on Chuck look at it from an entire year point of view ( ratings wise ) or will they view it as " what have you done forvme lately " approach ? Also anything lately from your WB and NBC sources ?

    ReplyDelete
  62. NBC will look at whatever it needs to look at. And I haven't heard anything new from NBC. Things are pretty much as they were. People need to tune in and watch.

    ReplyDelete
  63. rich says

what jim is talking about sounds like ret con. in the vien of bryce at the end fo season 2 saying that he knew chuck's dad the whole time etc. maybe they will do this again at the end of season 4. we are seeing Ellie get deep into the spy world through research on intersect material. Mary is wondering what Stephen intended with this computer, so I think she will be involved. we see families getting together in terms of Sarah and her dad and chuck and sarah and casey and his ex-fiance and daughter. maybe the cliff hanger is some sort intersect/family/spy connection device.

sarah's family is somehow involved with the intersect
the intersect was originally intended for the 3 man team, like chuck said at the end of a team
sarah's mom is someone we know from the show already
agent x is sarah's mom (I could definitely see that getting mangus' dukes up)

however i definitely at least feel like the cliffhanger/season 5 has to go in the direction of finding out more about sarah's family. chuck has said that he wants to help her do that, and that worked out extremely well as an arc for S4 with chuck's mom, and deepening the spy lore has been a steady string through the series.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Another thought: a lot of people seem to be obsessing over who is going to die and whether there will be a wedding. My guess is that the actual cliffhanger that has Magnus so annoyed is not even going to register for many of those people. In other words, it's going to bother you only if you care about the structure of the show beyond the level of just drawing hearts with "Chuck" and "Sarah" written inside :)

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  65. I am starting to think Jim is an insider...

    ReplyDelete
  66. rich says

then keep talking jim! what else do you know (think)?

    ReplyDelete
  67. I think I am going to create a campaign for NBC to cancel CHUCK. Who is with me?!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Jim's insights are good, but bad, but good :)

I mean they are good ideas about a bad direction for a cliffhanger.

I was thinking that if the cliffhanger was bad, it would be in a soap opera kinda way (pregnancy scare, someone on the brink of death, ...) and crazy-shipperrific.

If it's something that really causes a serious paradigm change, than it is awful.

    ReplyDelete
  69. "then it is awful". oops

    ReplyDelete
  70. My choice of words might have been unfortunate, since not every paradigm change is bad, they are usually good (Orion being Papa B, Bryce having planned it all along, etc), but since you had rated it with a zero, it would have to be a pretty awful paradigm change and not simply something plainly stupid. If it were something like "Chuck knew it all along and was playing everyone", "Sarah had always planned to be part of the intersect in a triad", "Sarah's mom is in the CIA and helped create the intersect, so she comes back now" then it would achieve the level of lameness required for a paradigm change to score a zero rating. Those kind of options would be really really bad, much worse than a pregnancy scare, which is already beyond words.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Paradigm changes are not awful unless you make them awful. In fact, the thing I love about the finale is its modifications to the paradigm. Even if the cliffhanger was an awful violation of the paradigm, I would still only give it a 1.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Mamemimomumm... I think everyone will understand why I gave it a zero when they see it. Even those who like it will understand.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I'm getting more excited about the finale I've actually really enjoyed the episodes since 4.16 so I'm pretty confident I'll enjoy the finale. Magnus I'm assuming Sarah has less a bit less screen time in 4.24 due to being occupied while Chuck goes off and does his big hero thing is that fair to say?

    ReplyDelete
  74. I am thinking that the cliff is about ORION and Mary. Moreover Agent x is going to be Mary not Chuck or even Ellie... I don't know I spend the whole week thinking about the next final four eps but now I'm confused...

Anyway Chuck as a show is legendary and will end in its own terms and not because NBC will decide to cancel it.

    nena

    ReplyDelete
  75. nena, I am pretty sure CHUCK will NOT end on its own terms but will, in fact, end when NBC cancels it.

As for your guess... well, you will find out soon.

eglamomoemnhjvfhfm, ask me in the middle of May. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  76. magnus: you don't see a secnario where they get a 9 or 13 for season 5 and give full resolution in that last episode?

or you don't see it getting renewed this season?

    ReplyDelete
  77. I don't see Fedak ever ending the series on some clean resolution. He didn't do it this time, with everything saying the show is not coming back, so he never will.

If the show is picked up for another season, expect Chris to end that season on some cliffhanger.

  78. Paul 80 over at TVBTN posted this in that fan campaign thread

    Posted April 16, 2011 at 9:37 AM
" Chuck wraped filming on April 14. We are doing a soft wrap, covering all sets, returning rentals that are not nailed down, star trailers, lights, working trucks, etc.
Now we wait until up fronts on May 16. My prediction is, Chuck will get 10 eps order and not be on in September. It will be replacement for a failed new show or be aired January 2012. Thanks to all the great Chuck fans . "

    Thoughts ?

    10 eps makes sense to get to 88 . Though I'd prefer 13 , but I'm not picky :D

    ReplyDelete
  79. Well, having spoken to my NBC source today, I can say he doesn't agree with Paul, again.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Bad news then :( ?

    ReplyDelete
  81. No... just different news. I was told not to talk about it so...

    ReplyDelete
  82. Ok , gotta respect that :)

As always you rock Magnus :)

    ReplyDelete
  83. Paul obviously works on the show, so I am not going to discount his legitimacy in that regard. But he has been wrong before where my source was right (or more accurate). Working on the show doesn't give you any insight into its renewal prospects. Everyone I have talked to from WB seems to think it is getting renewed.

So, you can just disregard any opinion about that is coming out of WB unless it is from one of the lawyers who has a signed and delivered deal from NBC.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Thanks for shedding some light on the subject, Magnus.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I know this is several posts up, but you don't have to start a let's Cancel Chuck Campaign - HitFix Daniel already did!

    Not. A. Member.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I know the ultimate decision regarding Chuck's future will reside in NBC's hands . But wouldn't the fact that the WB people seem to be positive about a S5 be a sort of good sign? Since they would be the ones that would have to take a financial hit on the shows licensing fee in order for NBC to even contemplate renewing it .

    Kevin

    ReplyDelete
  87. Kevin, I feel like I have answered this question 40 times in the last three weeks.

What WB people working on the show have to say about it is about as valuable to us as a sign of what is happening as a fan saying they have a good feeling about it.

When NBC makes a decision, we will know about it pretty quickly as it will leak before most people at WB know about it.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Oh it's the people that work on the show that are saying that ( WB wise ) and not anybody relevant to the actual decision making progress ? Ok , I gotcha . Well it was a good 4 years then :(
