  1. Awesome podcast, you three. Definitely an enjoyable listen, and agreed with Morgan's laserbeam scene. Just went on too long.

  2. Short but sweet podcast. In total agreement regarding both the Morgan/lasers scene and Awesome's brutal hotness in this episode. Although I feel the need to also praise Zac's wetsuit and damp hair, such a good look for him.

The episode as a whole has gotten better with every re-watch. I don't know if I just wasn't in the right frame of mind yesterday to take everything in, but it's gone from really good to really great for me. Although I still think the Jeffster was a little too long and I'm still kind of bummed about the Sarah/Casey hug.

  3. Wow, that was short! ;o)

Good stuff. I really like the way you work the soundbites in now, Magnus.

  4. Sue, yeah.. it gets better each time I watch it.

  5. It is unfortunate that Chuck's more highly rated episodes (412 & 411) were so weak/silly. Maybe Chuck could have retained some of the viewers.

I like the use of audio clips in the podcast. Please be careful that you do no over use them to take away what make your thing popular.

  6. 4.11 and 4.12 were neither weak nor silly. And I will be sure to make my next podcast nothing but clips.

  7. I loved The "Push Mix" episode of "Chuck" and just about the only thing I hated about the episode was the ratings that it got. The ratings system is overrated.

  8. Great podcast as always :) DR !!

I hate to bring up the ratings again , but ..

I think next week will be another tough week on the ratings . Katy Perry is on HIMYM and House will have MASSIVE promotion thanks to the Super Bowl .

I think a good idea to try to get more people to tune in next week is to bombard twitter with the promo for 4.14 . Every tweet , attach the link for the promo . Or instead of the promo , just the gif of Sarah/Yvonne belly dancing :) .

  9. don't get too excited for Sarah Lancaster haha

  10. I cant believe it. Well it had to happen sooner or later. So Chuck getting canceled. Sucks all it needed was 22 more eps to get to 100.

  11. Was there some 6am announcement that CHUCK is getting canceled that I missed?

  12. I am actually happy for Sarah Lancaster. I think I was just distracted by some text going on in our chat room at the time and it comes off in the podcast like I was being sarcastic. Sarah has been very good to my causes. :) I would never be sarcastic about her happiness.

  13. Great Podcast. Thanks Magnus.
I must admit the Sarah gif is so distracting, my god I wished I could have looked like that when I was younger.
    Such pretty people....sigh.

  14. Awesome podcast!!!
I love the new style with all the audio scenes so much! You made my day!!!

Just read that NBC has reduced the episode order for The Cape from 13 episodes to 10.
    Summer Glau, strikes again!

  15. Let us just hope that Summer Glau, aka "The Grim Reaper" didn't strike our show too.

Nah, it's just some dude running around the fansites posting doom and gloom because the show pulled a 1.7.

  17. i love this tvshow, i watch it every Tuesday morning (spain) and I barely can sleep the night before... I hope that it will be a fifth season next year

  18. Great Podcast Magnus :) short but great
Well. After all my complaining, it would be not fair, if this time I not appreciated the episode. So Yeah I loved, it was awesome really. Yeah the Morgan Yoga, and cut out the Sarah Casey hug, but everything else was great. Okey may be not the best 10 minute and not as Epic, but it Was good. So Yeah I loved :)
so far I have only two problem with this season, but seems my Chuck issues is may be resolved :) if they find a way to mix this Smart Chuck with the Kung-fu Chuck, then he become again a realy good character, :) The second is the lack of Chuck and Sarah Hot scenes, they already like an old Married couple XD.
But that is all, and you know what Magnus, I just listened the SWfangirl podcast, and I realized, that my complaining was nothing, and those people realy not pay attention for the Show. They just B-word about everything. And I'm sure that Lou CNN podcast going to be the same XD.
Suck spy story, 20 years mission, Mama B is not great spy, and bla bla bla, Even the proposal, becasue, that was not suprise, they don't want chuck and Sarah to be married, bla bla bla
    Why they Watching ?
And seriously. they not see that Mama B , stuck a crap situations, and How much dangerous Volkof really is.
last year they bitch about, too much drama, angst, now they want more Drama, more angst, I don't understood some people.
So far , except some really little thing, this is realy the best season. and I can't wait for the wedding, and hopefuly some Good Sarah and Elli, and Mama B scene. and based on the Interview with Chris and Josh I'm positive about the rest of the season :)

  19. I am told there was no Casey and Sarah hug, so people can move on from that. Apparently she just went over by him but didn't wrap her arms around him and cry.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Ooh, okey. Like I said, I don't have problem with the episode. and I don't want complaining about the season. I already told what I don't like, I won't repeat myself.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Post that in a spoiler article thread... that is kind of more spoilery than some reading this comment area might want to hear.

  22. Have you ever noticed that most of the people who bitch against the awesomeness of this Chuck season are fanfic writers? I mean, GOD! Have you ever read that stuff? It's like some weird trans-dimensional interbreeding of the penthouse forums and pre-teen bubble gum novels. If I could fulfill wishes, my second action after solving world hunger would be to ban all fanfic from the internet. Leave the Chuck writing to the professionals who work on the show, PLEASE!

  23. I sorry but i think this will be the last season of Chuck. Look at Heroes it went for 4 season as well. I going into this thinking this is the last. It will be better for everyone if they think it. People are just not going to watch Chuck and NBC not going to promote it. So let all just enjoy the last 11 ep and move on.

    ReplyDelete
  24. DR , you had a post at the beginning of the season that suggested that S4 should be the last and they should just announce it now . Do you feel that way now after seeing the first 13 episodes so far ? Or knowing what you know of the upcoming episodes are you hungry for more and want a season 5 ?

Also do you feel that if Chuck and Sarah are married in 4.24 that there would be enough story to tell for a 5th season ( if they get picked up ) that the casual fan would care enough about to tune in for ?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Zman, of course I have noticed it! I have been saying it for THREE SEASONS! Most of the people who complain the most are fan fic writers who think they are better than the writers. In fact, I would say almost ALL of the most well known complainers are well known fan fic writers/readers.

Anonymous, if that even is your name, I would still do it. I don't believe in lying to your fans and that is what they do every time they call to us to "save the show." I think it is cruel to give people false hope, or a false sense of empowerment, especially when you say one thing in public and another thing in private.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Magnus, I agree with you on the fanfic thing. There are a bunch of would-be critics/writers out there who think that they would do a better job than the producers of the show.

I disagree about the "false hope" thing. I think most folks are mature enough to understand that the show is going to end one day. But that doesn't mean we don't go down swinging. I don't equate asking fans to "fight" with promising them that the show will be back next season. If we get the show back for another season, great. If not, at least we can say we tried.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Great podcast, as always. Keep 'em comin', boss!

  28. Paul, "going down fighting" is one of those melodramatic concepts that people latch onto as some honorable way of losing. Losing is losing. So, if you want to win, DO WHAT WORKS. Don't tell people to just DO SOMETHING when they can do things that work.

  29. New " evil " corporation comes and takes over NBC . They end up canceling the show on the network with the biggest and bestest and loudest FANS . I sure wouldn't want to be the guy responsible for making that decision . lol

You know , if I was in charge and had to decide if Chuck was cacellation worthy . Depending if it was borderline . For PR sake I would renew it but say " it's getting X amount of episodes with a TBD air date ". Save it for when one of there new shows gets cancelled or as a mid season replacement OR if NBC has a banner year , air it in the summer of 2012 .

    One can dream ...

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't think any network executive is "afraid" of canceling a show. They might say stuff like that in the media to stroke the ego of the fans, but they don't care. They renew or cancel based on prestige, ratings, profitability, and need. Fear of fans is probably not high on that list.

Though, and I said this during season 2, I think that only a few hundred online fans make up the majority of the "save Chuck" movement, I am confident that if the show is ever canceled, there will be a huge response... and we probably won't even need to organize one. It will just happen.

Though, it would probably be too late since putting a canceled show back together (production wise) is costly. That is why I have always believed in striking early with those letters. I organized it in season 2 (and it got mentioned by the head of NBC at the end when they renewed CHUCK) and I brought it back this time while people were feeling safe (though the wegiveachuck crew is running it this time... we need some new blood, I am a tired old man now).

People keep asking me "Is it even necessary?! CHUCK is safe, right? Everyone says so!" They said CHUCK was safe halfway through season 2. Every time they say CHUCK is safe, the ratings tank.

  31. With the recent success of Fringe on Friday's , would NBC give it serious consideration moving it there next year ? Is Chuck a cheap enough show that it could manage a 1.5-1.8 Friday rating and still be profitable for the network ? Depending on the cost that the WB licenses the show next year to NBC for , I would assume that it could be a good fit .

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have been pushing for CHUCK on Fridays since last year. I know they have considered it (and considered Wednesdays) but the idea eventually gets shot down for different reasons.

I think NBC should renew CHUCK for a 5th season and move it to Fridays.... and she what happens.

A 1.5 on Fridays is considered a good rating. A 1.8 is a very good rating.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well that's good to know that they at least have considered it in the past . I just hope that they explore that option again this year .

Is there a difference in price that the production company ( WB) takes into consideration if a show airs on a Friday ? Like would the WB charge NBC more if it airs on Monday than it would if it aired on Friday ?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yeah. I mean.. Smallville's done pretty well on Fridays for a while now, and it's on the CW for goodness sakes. I don't even GET the CW through my cable provider, so I have to watch online, Haha.

I would love to see 'Chuck' move to Mondays. I always watch it live, but I also follow House/HIMYM.. and just catch those at a later date.

Anyway, I'd love to see a S5, but I'm not a fan who'd beg for it just for the sake of it happening, especially if the ratings/popularity outside of the hardcore fanbase is waning. I actually read some of the fanfics out there too, by the way, so hey. Not all of them think that the fiction is better than the real deal. I like how things wrapped up in the latest episode moreso than any of the stuff I've seen written. =P

    ReplyDelete
  35. Las Vegas initially aired on NBC for 2 and a half seasons on Mondays @ 10 ( 62 episodes ) , but got moved to Fridays @ 10 three quarters through its third season and spent two and a half seasons in that spot ( 44 episodes ) .

I don't know how successful it was , but at least there is a track record of NBC moving a show to Friday night .

  37. Magnus,
on your next podcast or Dear DR page,
Would you please give us an exclusive teaser/spoiler for 4.16? Something no one else is talking about?

  38. Dear wise and magnificent DR ,

Will there be a dancing scene involving Chuck and Sarah in 4.16 ? Or any other time for that matter ?

  39. I don't know if anyone will care but kind of a fun fact General Diane Beckman was in 2 episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer near the end of season 3.
