  1. Ok, I needed longer entertainment while voting. ;)

I already posted how much I loved the episode in the latest teaser threat. So I just wanted to say thanks for the podcast and repeat, that you definitely did not overhype Timothy Dalton at all.

He was perfect in both roles.

  2. Yeah, I am really looking forward to seeing more from him. This show has NEEDED a solid bad guy and we finally have one that is a brilliant actor.

    ReplyDelete
  3. He is absolutely brilliant. And I am a little sad to not have him as Tuttle anymore, but as that´s the reason for an incredible "good" bad guy, it´s ok.

I also think to other things apart from Dalton being perfect set him up as a fantastic villain. One is the personal connection to Chuck´s mom and the other is, that ubertrusting Chuck spilled about everything that is important to him during the sheep truck ride.

So he now has a lot of personal information about Chuck and his relationship with Sarah plus a personal connection. At least Chuck kept mum about Frost being his mom. ;)

  4. Sometimes the writers create too good of a setup that the payoff means losing a great setup. I am sure Timmy will play the evil as well as he played the good guy. But I won't pretend that I wouldn't have loved to have kept the first guy around a little longer. But they didn't know they would have 24 episodes to play with when they did it.

  5. God so much is happening in each episode this year. It's ridiculous, but very fun to watch. I'm excited to see this play out. As always your teasers are fun to read. They give nothing away, but drive all the shippers crazy. I can't help but laugh my arse off at the responses you get. :)

  6. Will we learn anything about Sarah's past this season? Also will Carina be coming back for an episode?

    ReplyDelete
  7. There will be some Sarah episodes this season.

    ReplyDelete
  8. does anybody know and this includes Magnus if the laptop under elle's seat in the car at the end of the episode going to be apart of getting chuck the intersect back?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Love Timothy Dalton. He is so freakin awesome as a villian though I will miss him as the Tuttle character. He certaintly is a talented actor is one of the best guest stars to ever be on CHUCK. He was perfectly cast for this role. And on that note, do you Magnus have any idea as to whether or not Dalton will get more episodes now that we have a full 24 episode season? Also, why the hell is there not going to be a new episode of CHUCK next week? Is NBC crazy? I want more Timmy D.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Brittany, unfortunately they have some other program running that day so CHUCK gets a week off. And then we get a whole mess of weeks off in December. So, it is just the way networks utilize their schedules. They have their reasons for doing it.

    ReplyDelete
  11. As for Timmy D... I don't know if they added more episodes for him.

    ReplyDelete
  12. First of all chuck got a 2.0! Awesome! How do fans get the idea that the intersect is out of his head. Remember his moms last words before she showed him the device, your dad did not want you to see this, his dad was always against his kids being a part of the spy world, and so this has to be information that allows chuck to continue on his journey. I have a strong feeling that it contained some vital intel about what his dad did, it may end up being his dad's brain on a computer, hence chuck is now orion! All he has to do in the next 2-3 episodes is figure a way to reboot and get all intersects (which by now is about 5 of them) online, then a superhero is born!

  13. AWESOME EPISODE!!

Just want to point out...Did anyone notice the name on the box that Mama B pulled that PSP thing out of?? Eurybia...a clue, if you will.

I think that two of the earlier spoilers that Magnus posted are about to come true! The biggest is, I think, Mama B has been directing this the whole time and was totally running Orion ops. I think, in the end, we are going to find out she is good and that her and Orion were working together.

Whatever that PSP type thing was, I don't think it erased the Intersect. It doesn't make sense with what she said. "Something your father didn't want you to see..." I think it's data about whatever the BIG mission is, or whatever the BIG Bartowski 'secret' is. It has either temporarily overridden the Intersect OR enhanced it. It's just going to take time to work out the kinks, just like Intersect 2.0 took time to work out those kinks in Chuck's brain.

I'm really excited to see how the Mustang and Ellie are going to work into the big picture as well. And whatever 'tech' is in it. I also wish we would've found out who had been keeping care of the car, but I'm guessing since it was brushed off, it is of no consequence. I think it would've been nice to give the fans a little bit more to that. Oh well, maybe on the cutting room floor??

Now, I'm just wondering who the secret sibling might be...hrm...

And, to add, I LOVE how they are writing Chuck/Sarah now. I was getting tired of all the mushy stuff and I think it's so much better to have some sort of tension still between them. Kind of like, oh, I don't know, a NORMAL relationship ;)

  14. i realized this very ironic fact: when Tuttle was shot, he was shot around the same place where Bryce was shot. Ironically, there has been a dramatic intersect change with Chuck both times and they also met new bad guys. Tuttle and Bryce also gave Chuck an item when they were bleeding after getting shot. Also, something has been destroyed each time (when Bryce got shot, the intersect 2.0 was destroyed and when Tuttle was shot it was the Bartowski house that got destroyed...ironic haha

  15. Diane...

A lot of positives in the ratings. The show just missed a 2.1 by, well, St. Louis.

    There were season highs for:
Adults 18-49 (beating the premiere by a tiny amount, but I'll take it)
    Women 18-49
    Adults 18-24

Hopefully, this momentum can hold up despite the one week hiatus and if, just once, we can get a full slate of stations to run the show the way they are supposed to.

Magnus, you may not want to answer this question, but do you know if the Mama B/Timothy Dalton/Volkoff arc was supposed to last all the way up to 413 or was it going to end sooner than that?

I sense it is really catching people's imaginations.

    ReplyDelete
  16. This episode was very good. I think Mama B is good but is playing bad to protect Chuck and Ellie just like she told Chuck. Dalton made an excellent Tuttle but an even better Volkoff. I was pleasantly caught off guard by the Tuttle Volkoff twist. This latest episode they made Sarah Lancaster very stunning and her beauty stole the show.
So is the Split coming in the next episode? If it is then do not read the synopsis for episode 9.
Has anyone heard how they are handling the additional 11 episodes, treating it like season 2 or season 3?

  17. you know I agree with you on one of your podcasts where you said that the music made the film or series. My favourite series of all time for now at least is lost and the moments like locke realising he can walk or charlies death or even the series finally would not have been awesome if the music was not awesome and so I wish that when they do end this show they have an awesome scene with awesome music!

  18. Magnus a question....

Where did we get the idea that papa b was searching for mama b and never found her? At the end of season 3 he said that he has been working as a spy for the last 20 years and he did it all for her (mama b) he never said that she was kidnapped or mission. His file said that but he could have just been keeping her off the grid. I just think that chuck will have to take over his dad's work by the time the series ends. I think mama b and papa b worked together to use volkoff's money, power and influence to take out the worlds most dangerous organisations, they probably realised that the US government could not do it so they tried to do it themselves and that is why orion told chuck about his work so that he could take his place. Well that is my spec.........

    ReplyDelete
  19. You know what I would like to see, I think that chuck and ellie are headed for a real heated discussion when she finds out he is still a spy and I hope that he snaps. I hope that he tells her that the cia messed up his chances of being a billionaire back in college, he had to keep a physical and emotional distance from the love of his life for 3 years because of the cia, he cannot get a job because of the cia and the president, that his life has been put through the drama mill and that ellie should just back off and let him try and make the best out of a situation that he cannot control. I think that kind of drama would feel genuine and it would not be contrived because he must feel that his life has been put on hold since college and he needs ellies support not her nagging and disapproval. I really feel that this show needs that moment where chuck vents and shows that he is human and that this situation does get to him, that he is making the best life he can with what he is given but it does get to him!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Luke, you must have been watching the British version of CHUCK where Chuck is a bitter, angry, frustrated family guy who snaps at his sister because she has looked out for him since she was a teenager.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Magnus, I am not saying that chuck should live his life that way! I am saying that even as nice and gentle and sweet as chuck is and people like chuck are, they do have very bad days! it happens, and sometimes in a show like this the tension is contrived or can be thrown in just so they can throw it in. I really thought that a moment like that would seem genuine and a long time coming. I mean we have never really seen chuck angry at someone for more then 30 seconds! I agree Ellie has supported him ever since he was a teenager, but she keeps asking him to do something he cannot do and that is quit the spy biz!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Luke, Chuck doesn't feel the anger toward his sister that you feel toward her. He wants to make her happy. She is DEAR to him. He isn't going to explode out in anger at her because it isn't how he handles her. She is the parental figure he deeply respects.

Remember when he got mad at his dad in Dream Job? That is still one of my favorite scenes in the series. "I don't want to hear what you can't do! I've SEEN what you can't do!" And that was after YEARS of built-up frustration. Same with his mom (though, on a lesser scale).

But Ellie has always been there for him. She never left his side. He sees her as the one person in the universe who has every right to say whatever she wants to him, and who can have every expectation in the world of him. And he also wants to live up to her expectations.

However, his outburst, or what you want to see, is demonstrated in the form of his continued work with the CIA. He realizes that he needs to do what he needs to do. But he doesn't for a second feel Ellie is unjustified in wanting him to quit. At least not yet.

That is not to say I wouldn't like to see Chuck stand up to Ellie and tell her that he is going to do this because he wants to do it... but I accept that Chuck is not the type of guy who would do that naturally. That would be OUT of character for him. It would take something very big to make him do that.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I do not feel anger towards Ellie, I just feel bad for chuck sometimes that is all. I mean through all of season 3 (it was my favourite, season 4 could take it's place) the worst part was when he was on a date with sarah and she say's if you do not kill perry we cannot be together if you do then you are not the same man and so we still cannot be together. I mean he is screwed if he does and screwed if he does'nt and this feels the same. If he quits for ellie he probably goes to prison or lives a life unfulfilled but if he does not quit then he risks hurting her and it just feels like one of those moments wehre as an audience your like wow! this is such a crappy moment for him. He gets put in these no-win situations all the time because people expect so much of him and I get that he can handle it because that is who he is and we love him for that but still a small part wishes that he stand up for himself a little more, I fogot to mention in the rant I proposed he could also mention he lost his best friend in college and saw him die because of the cia, life does suck for chuck sometimes!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Don't feel bad for Chuck. He is a fictional character. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Chuck´s life may suck sometimes, but that is really not Ellie´s fault. People always wanted him to rant at Sarah as well, but I´ve never really seen her as responsible for all of Chuck´s problems either.

For example in Final Exam, she clearly didn´t want Chuck to kill someone, but she knew he wanted to be a spy and she didn´t want him to get killed himself by going into this red test scenario with the knowledge, that not killing the mark might let him be with Sarah and therefore being even more unsure of what to do. So she was kind of in a no-win situation herself.

Ellie just wants Chuck to be safe, because he is immensly important to him. And it´s not like she has all the facts. She has been abandoned by both parents as well and been kept in the dark about the reasons even more than Chuck.

It´s not like Chuck is the only one put in tough situations while everyone else´s life is just peachy. And Chuck is really not the type to just lash out at everyone. He is also extremly caring and forgiving.

I am looking forward to more conflict in Chuck´s relationship with the CIA as a whole. That sounds very promising.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I do not think that it is because chuck has it worse then anyone, my point is he does not really demand much of people. Sarah, casey and morgan want to be with chuck because he is so understanding and accomodating and not that judgemental. The thing with Ellie is that she has the most perfect husband in the world (morgan and I would have him if he let us) and she has chuck as well, but at times she comes off as a spoilt brat, that is all. It is her nagging personality that I am sure a few other people have complained about, if I had awesome and that life I would not complain about anything! Well there is no point in complaining it is just a tv show, with regards to chuck having conflict with the cia, good luck I am still waiting to see sarah's conflict after they made her kill eve shaw and never gave her a proper reason or proof that she was actually bad. I think with chuck the show you just have to let that go, they can put 12 episodes of contrived material together and it will be splapped together in 42 minutes like season 3, and then give you one awesome episode like honeymooners and it seems like it was all worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Josh, if that is your assessment, then please quit the show... and this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  28. yeah man josh that is a harsh assessment. I know that parts of early season 3 were off, like the train incident, shaw, the name reveal and others but to say that the first 12 episodes were contrived is very harsh! Also sometimes a show like this does move the story along really fast and parts do get glossed over, but if they were glossed over did they really matter in the first place. Like does it really matter why the cia had sarah kill eve shaw? in the long term no, not really because it does not contrubute to the overall mythology of chuck.

  29. Hi Magnus,

On the assumption that mama b added information to chucks brain (i.e. another intersect of data based on orions complete lifes work) would that make the governor obsolete? I mean would chuck not need to build a govenor for the 2.0 and also orions intersect so that his brain does not fry? BTW if that is what happens, I think it is a smart move by the writers, because it means that chuck can flash on bad guys outside of the intersect and it can provide more story and mission, great thinking..........

    ReplyDelete
  30. Charles, I can't answer suppositions that people have now accepted as fact without giving something away. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I don´t know why so many people seem to be sure, that MamaB put all of Orion´s information in Chuck´s brain. Maybe because Old Darth said that and he often makes his specs sound like facts.

I think it is definitely possible, that she did that, but there are lots of other possible scenarios. I feel like her mentioning that Chuck´s father hadn´t wanted him to see whatever was on that PSP thing, could mean it might be something dangerous. Although she could have been lying about Orion not wanting Chuck to see it.

It could be some kind of upgrade, that for now is blocking Chuck´s flashes and some dangerous action is necessary to pass that block. It is also still possible that she really erased the intersect. I highly doubt that she turns out to be evil in the end, but with all we know for now, that is still possible, because she might be one of the bad guys and still want to protect her children.

A backup for Orion´s files could be on the laptop in Ellie´s new car or it could contain intersect technology. Many possibilities.

Maybe a well fed bunny will tell us more soon. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I guess OD's proven record of being right has people buying his spec. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  33. From a story perspective it makes sense, we all know that they are building up chuck to become a super hero, if what mama b showed chuck is in fact orions life's work it makes sense that the final scene of the series would be chuck walking off into the sunset hand in hand with sarah and his team ready to take on the most toughest challenge he has ever faced, and if we get a season 5 then perhaps we could see him fight these unknown powerful people till the bitter end............one word .........awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hi Magnus,

Love your podcast and love chuck. I am loving season 4, and I like that chuck and sarah are partners and morgan and casey are partners. With chuck and sarah these are two characters that with their history are perfect because sarah's life where she she lived multiple alias and learnt how to decieve people meant that she could go pretty quickly up the cia ranks, chuck due to the intersect and his intelligence means he can do the same go quickly up the ranks, so they are perfect partners. Morgan like casey will take longer, we know that casey did not qualify for traditional milliatary special ops and so he had to go the nsa black ops route and he took longer to get where he is, even he said that at 23 he was an idiot who ty bennet had to train for a long time. Morgan people can sometimes say he is an idiot too, and I think it will take like casey years too get to the awesome level that casey is, and because casey knows how difficult it is when you do not qualify the traditional route will help morgan get to where he needs to get! I am so looking forward to how this develops, this could be the season of the beard. I really hope that morgan's progress is fast and awesome, he already grunts like casey, he is very perceptive, he brokered a deal with mama b and he has his nerves of steele and he is so loyal and will risk is life to save his friends and partners, Sorry for the ramble, I just love this show and where they are heading, they are in a creative peak at the moment and it is coming to that part of the story arc where things just go and go and I am so looking forward to the white knuckle ride they put us on.

  35. You know one thing that I did notice in this last episode was that chucks mom was a lot colder to him then ellie. I have a feeling that mama b's relationship with chuck will be the same as jack had with his dad in lost. His dad said in order to make jack the man he was the surgeon he needed to be he had to sacrifice certain elements when he raised him for his own destiny. Is that mama's b's role for chuck, does she have to sacrifice being a mom that chuck deserves so that she can prepare him for his ultimate destiny, it certainly sends chills down my spine. We always wanted chuck to be the super hero he always was meant to be, but who gives him that final push? it is not casey (red test saver), sarah (she loves him how he is, that is sweet and kind), ellie (she wants to protect him) or papa b (he never wanted chuck to be a spy in the first place. So that leaves mama b, is that her role for the season and series, to force chuck into the role that makes him the worlds saviour? if this is the way the season goes, then I agree we have just witnessed an episode that could ulimately change the landscape of the series and the fate of our beloved characters, I for one have high hopes for what lies ahead...........

  36. Sometimes fan speculations can be right on the money. Usually they are way off. And once in a blue moon they are better than what was written. We shall see by the end of the month where it all fits.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Random thought......I know that chuck's new hairstyle is really nice and I as a girl am digging it, but for 3 seasons we have seen sarah kiss chuck and run her hand though his hair, does she not miss his longer curlier hair? I know on a tv guide video interview yvonne said she liked zach's hair (that was when it was season 1/2 longer) as well as his eyebrows that frame his face nicely and his olive skin that just glows! lol!, I wonder if sarah misses it too? hum........

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think Yvonne was just being nice. ;)

I don't think Sarah plays with hair.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yeah hence my lol, but I love zach's response......I really find her personality sexy, now don't get me wrong a great personality is awesome, but if I looked like yvonne I would expect eyes's as blue as an ocean, a smile that lights up a city, eye lashes that go forever and hair of silk, lips that are like that first sip of fine wine......but I love zach's personality line, very funny......But although she was just being nice, he does have the most beautiful olive skin.....

    ReplyDelete
  40. do not forget that he has the most gorgeous smile ....... I love his smile, he is so attractive! The tall, dark and handsome combo that I find so attractive..... Sorry Magnus I know creepy, but he so handsome. I do not even know why it was ever a competition between his chuck and the other PLI's he is street's ahead of them, throw in the charm and charisma and you got me my perfect man!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Gina and Jess... OK. We get it. Zac is hawt. Now let's get back to what is important.

Getting Kristin Kreuk back on the show!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I know, I just got my blu ray disks and watching her with zach in high def was a new experience. I mean they had an explosive chemistry that was bubbling underneath the surface, I just wish they mimed that for a few more episodes..... they made an adorable couple....bring back the kristen kreuk, but for who....or is she just a kick ass agent.......I can go along with that.....

    ReplyDelete
  43. People have commented on this site as to why chuck never get's really angry and throws sarah or ellies fault back in their face. Here is the thing when it comes to the balancing act I do feel worried for chuck at times. There is a train of thought that when someone does you wrong you have two choices:

    1) Swallow your anger and let it eat you up and make you bitter, or
    2) Throw it back in someones face.

But with chuck there is a third option and that is to let it go, and when he does that he is truely free and manages to remain the same person deep down. I think this why sarah has always loved him, it is not only about him being smart, inventive, brave, kind or sweet. It is deep down he finds a way to let it go and be the man she loves. In the long term that will be what keeps chuck and sarah together, but in the short term that allows people like mama b to hurt him. The perfect example of this is when he had shaw by the throat, he could of gone through option 1 and hated himself for causing his fathers death, or option 2 killed shaw. But no he chose option 3 and let it go and that is what makes him great! No matter what happens I can always route for this type of hero who tries to balance everything and everyone and no matter what happens will wake up the next day look in the mirror and be happy with man he is and do the same thing again, now that has to be admired………

    ReplyDelete
  44. I totally agree with this analysis, it is beautiful, introspective and the reason I love chuck. Another great moment is when he say's to Ellie about papa b, we can either hate him or forgive him.....When you put into words what makes chuck great it makes sarah's fear of losing her chuck in season 3 all the more powerful! As fans we want to see this man succeed because he does things his way and never loses his humanity in the process, it makes bryce's actions at standford all the more understandable because he must have known what the cia would have done to chuck. As a fan you want to see chuck succeed but like sarah never at the cost of who he is and how people like mama b act will be provide a precursor or keyhole insight into where our heroes destiny ends, it is so intriguing yet suspenceful, I wait in awe to see how chuck navigates his way to his ultimate desination while remaining our chuck/our hero/our avitar.

  45. Who is in charge of operation bartowski? I know chuck has a level 6 security clearance (beard) and now he is a special agent and the team is still called team bartowski, so is chuck in charge or more famously is charles in charge? Does all the paperwork sent to washington have casey and sarah as team members and charles carmichael as their supervisor? he does seem to have high clearance. Interesting.......

    ReplyDelete
  46. Amrit, these are great questions. While the writers may actually talk about that, I don't think we are going to see it addressed much on the show. HOWEVER, it would seem that Chuck has authority over his team.
