  1. The 'Greta' aspect of the show seems like it would be confusing to the casual viewer. Do you know if the show-writers plan on explaining this any more thoroughly at any point in the season?

  2. On twitter, you said the show might be taking a two-week break after episode 406.

While any break is unfortunate, IF that does happen, is it a good time story-wise to take a break or bad?

    Diane

  3. If there is a 2 week break , would mean they would only get 10 eps ( maybe 11 ) before Christmas with 3 left over eps unti January . Do you think that means that NBC has already decided on a pick up and are stretching out the schedule ?

  4. Will Ellie have her baby this season?

  5. I read an interview that Ryan McP did where he mentioned that they would be finding out either this week or next whether Chuck will be getting extra episodes for the season have you heard any more rumours about NBC negotiations?

  6. I've seen the recent screenshots of Timmy D with Zac, he appears to be not at all what I was expecting, have the writing team gone away from the obvious explanation of who the character is or are there some extra twists and surprises to come first.

  7. Last one promise. After episode 4 do we see a little less focus on Chuck and Sarah's issues for a few episodes to give the other characters a bit more screen time before everything kicks off with Mama or will their issues continue to be front and centre?

  8. Hi Magnus,

I wonder what you think about the edition's team of "Chuck".
Are they really bad ,or else, they like to spoil all the great scenes? ... I cannot understand some decisions ... Did they see the results of their work before the episode goes to air?

    Sorry my poor english,
    Greetings from Portugal.

    Fernando

  9. Fernando, I don't understand your question. Can you go to Google Translate and try it, please? Thanks.

  10. Sorry,

I was asking your opinion about the people responsible for editing the scenes of "Chuck"...

  11. Hi Magnus,

What made you post you latest comment clarifying the break up/split up debate under your Dear DR Blog. I thought it was cool that you said split up and let fans just freak out that it could mean break up, I knew kinda what you meant by split up when you posted it so I was not worried but it was fun watching some fans try and start a war with you, why stop?

  12. How long will it take for team b to actually be together working on cases, I mean it is cool that casey and morgan are together and so are chuck and sarah but enough with the buymore and put morgan back in the field and the team as one, I miss casey.

  13. Do we get to see the baby Awesome and the Big Mike/Balonia wedding before the finale (or 4.13)

    Thanks,

Will there be funny scenes with Sarah and Morgan like there was in season 3 besides the one scene in the first episode?

This might be a stupid question but do you know what song jeffster is going to sing this season if they do at all?

  16. Will we see any past character returns? I'd love to see Harry Tang return.

  17. One thing that I liked about this episode (I liked all of it) is that when chuck said to sarah after his cuddling/silence comprimise "see these excercises are working" I think yvonne was only supposed to smile but she actually started lauging (maybe she could not help herself). I think in the first 3 seasons they would have edited that laugh out, but now they are letting sarah's character really loosen up and I have noticed that yvonne this season really looks like she is having fun, so I enjoyed that and am thankful they are giving these moments. sorry for the long post.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think a lot of people and critics may have missed that sarah was practicing a technique from the book at the end, the technique about telling your lover stuff while they are asleep, even though when chuck suggested it she said it was stupid, it was good to see that she made an effort to try it because she loves chuck. Also Magnus do you think that the show runners missed a chance for ellie to say to chuck that i see what you are like as a spy and you should go back.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Really fun episode, the most well constructed in season 4 I think.

The relationship stuff though is kinda to much though. While I don't mind it, lots of people find it boring. If they do not push it more to the background and feature more action soon I'm afraid the ratings are going to start to slip. I fear we will see a drop today already.

  20. Hi, magnus

Do you think "generalissimo" played the best role of "villain", so far this season?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Fernando, I think the Generalissimo is one of my favorite guest characters so far. He is a blast. Though, Timmy "Emmy" Dalton will likely win that fight. ;)

twr, I don't think the general public, or CHUCK fans who don't frequent the Internet, think like people who post on websites. I don't know anyone in the really real world who even talks about having a problem with the relationship. It isn't until they end up online where I hear it. And Internet fans are not abandoning the show. They keep threatening and keep posting about it... 2-years running.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I hope so.

But I do hope they are done with the relationship problem of the week stuff thay have going for a while. It would be nice to have one episode of them being just a happy couple. As Sarah said: "Why can't we just be?".

    ReplyDelete
  23. Pretty much every show took a hit last night in the ratings due to football and baseball playoffs. Oh, except CHUCK!

    Dear DR wins again. :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. I know this is speculation but based on the promo pics and twit picks of morgan in millitary gear it looks like morgan may actually save the day next week! He may get shot but he could save our beloved trio, Magnus could I be right! That is why in 4.06 he is on a mission with our team b! Morgan could rock even harder than usual!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yeah, promote chuck get 3.0 do not get a 2.0, solid numbers indeed, well solid for NBC! This is good news in a way because I really expected them to fall but chuck fans are loyal, so happy days, keep fighting chuck!

  26. Jack from TVBN has not changed his tune on the back order.

    As of this morning.

Back order for CHUCK will be soon but renewal discussions happen in spring.

Well based on last nights ratings NBC knows what they have in Chuck. So they need to keep it there and fight battles elswhere.

Chase and Undercovers are as good as gone.

    CR

    ReplyDelete
  27. I have not heard yet that the back order is a lock, but I have heard the decision is going to be made very soon. It seems like a no-brainer to me... but then I am a fan. I am sure CHASE is gone but THE EVENT is still doing better than any other show on Mondays on NBC. So, I could see them hanging on to it unless it drops to a 1.7 or below next week.

    ReplyDelete
  28. A barely promoted show beating out a high-concept show with a blitzkrieg marketing strategy halfway into its first season......is that THE EVENT?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hi Magnus,

How come there are a lot of sites that are blaming chuck for the event and chase decline in the ratings? I mean if NBC promoted chuck and it still was bad and could not get high ratings then that would be one thing, but chuck is still outperforming chase and will probably out performing the event next week with no promotion ! What is the deal? Other networks promote their shows around the clock and get 3.0, chuck has proven with promotion it is a 3.0, so what gives?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Luke, what sites are blaming CHUCK for declines?

Stan, no... Chuckfest2 is THE EVENT.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I do not like to name and shame usually because that shows a lack of class imo but I will mention one site because I love chuckL spoilertv.com keeps saying that chuck is not a strong enough lead in to the event and chase! that is so unfair!

    ReplyDelete
  32. How does it show lack of class? THEY ARE OPENLY SAYING IT. It is not like they privately said it. Stop being silly.

And SpoilerTV is a spoiler site, not a TV ratings expert site. Talk to me when TVByTheNumbers.com says it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Marc Berman for starters but he does that all the time.

Jack said that NBC already made the decision to give the back order to Chuck and the Event last week. So I guess it is just a formality at this point. I say by this Thursday or next we can see news.

  34. fair enough magnus, oh about ZLP's post regarding Morgan, I agree if morgan does save our trio then that could make things between him and casey a little better, as casey would reluctantly respect morgan a little more, not much but enough for him not to kill morgan for dating his daughter! especially if he takes a bullit for casey in the arm and as well as breaking his thumbs! good times ahead!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Marc Berman has been predicting CHUCK's cancellation since 3.01. He seems to have some personal beef with the show. EVERY TIME he posts the ratings he says something bad about the show. THE EVENT has to survive on its own, not on its lead-in. Plus, CHUCK is delivering exactly what NBC wanted, the male demo.

CR, like I said... last time I heard about it, NBC had not made a choice. But Jack hasn't been wrong before so... I would not be surprised by a back 6/9 pickup. Production winds down in November, so they have to make a decision by then.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The only place I've seen 'Jack' make a comment is on TVByTheNumber and I think he just said the backorder would be soon not that its a forgone conclusion. Unless I misunderstood the emphasis.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Great that Chuck are at least are holding steady, hopefully we will see a 6/9 oder soon. :-)

I agree that the talk down was kinda lame (and they something similar last season). I would have liked that they would have fought them instead. If they wanted the tie in with C/S they could just used it to reconcile Goya and his wife after they had disarmed them.

I liked the new writer, and she got the mix of comedy/action/romance well. Having said that I agree with twr that we don't need to see C/S discuss their feelings/problems every week and just have some episode of them as a couple. Though from the promo for next week it seems we are getting that.

    ReplyDelete
  38. loved the episode, I really like that they are trying to open up sarah emotionally, no she has not said her feelings in a free flowing conversation just yet, but what we saw in the last scene was her willing to meet chuck half way at least and tell him in her own way that she loves him and would marry him. awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! I also think looking at this season based on the episodes and interviews that yvonne is having a lot of fun with her character going in this direction so that is nice and it makes some of the moments genuine.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Diane adds...

...a word about Marc Berman. I've been reading this guy since he was the only daily blog about ratings.

He has biases. He loves, loves, loves reality shows and even comments on what happens in them.

He has never really been kind to any show that is "scifi" or cultish.

He can say all he wants that "Chuck should have been canceled" but he never quite says what it would be replaced with that would do better. (A reality show, perhaps?)

He's not a decisionmaker for NBC and never acknowledges that a show's placing in its time period isn't the only factor to what gets renewed on a problem-ridden network like NBC.

He loses my respect when he constantly harps on it.

Since NBC doesn't have a lot of other shows they could have made the lead-in for the Event, I think Chuck's audience is a good demographic match for who they wanted to watch that show. What other choice did they have? The Event's ratings problems can't be laid on Chuck's shoulders. It got good ratings the first week.

I've needed to rant about Berman for a while. Thanks for letting me.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Berman reminds me of a lot of people who have a very narrow view of things. He would make for a terrible network executive. "KILL IT!" seems to be his mentality. Also, he constantly grades shows on how they performed based on their lead-in. So a cheap show that has no promotion doing 0.3 less than an expensive show with heavy promotion is somehow the loser.

    He has no logical perspective.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Now that we know that chuck is one of NBC's lineup that will more than likely pull a 2.5 - 3.0 with promotion and nothing else they try does in a competitive timeslot, why not promote it? It basically could compete in the key demos with other popular shows on different networks, and maybe they should also give it more money!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Wooooaaaahhhhhhhh.... easy! We know with $30 million worth of promotion it will get that. NBC is not spending that kind of money on promoting it with the POTENTIAL of getting that kind of rating. CHUCK is in season 4. Going into season 3 there was HUGE buzz about the show. We have lost a lot of that now. The fandom isn't even as motivated anymore.

Now, might NBC begin to promote CHUCK more than it has been? Sure. But unless they move the show and put it somewhere on the schedule where it had a lead-in and had less competition, we are not going to see that kind of rating. And NBC is not moving a season 4 show they don't own at this point to a winning slot in the schedule.

Or if they do, I will be shocked. Live in the really real world. Focus on what can and will happen, not some fantasy that is never happening.

    ReplyDelete
  43. ok fair enough magnus, fair enough, but surely with a little promotion they can get a 2.1 - 2....... whatever, basically a show that is still cheap can outperform series that are getting loads of promotion and are getting killed, I mean undercovers, the event, outlaw, chase, etc are just not doing it, so why not take some of their promotion and give it to chuck, even if they get a 2.3 for example that is still better than a 1.5 chase and undercovers are getting?

    ReplyDelete
  44. I would rather have a 1.9 or 2.0 with no promotion than a 2.2 with promotion. Why? Because with promotion, that probably gets it canceled. Without promotion, it might get moved to Friday nights for one more season.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I did not know that, cool, I understand, cool.

    ReplyDelete
  46. heya, really enjoyed the podcast this week.

i loved the episode, but I feel like the chuck and sarah relationship is starting to become like the "chuck and sarah issue of the week" and it feels kind of forced...

otherwise this ranks up with the best of season two for me (aside from the little speech at the end of course)

    ReplyDelete
  47. The only thing that felt forced was that rehash of 3.02 with Chuck talking down the bad guy with talk of love.

Otherwise, the Chuck and Sarah relationship issue was well executed and well within character. Plus, it gave Yvonne a lot to play with.
