  7. You are Right, just like Always. But I still think is gonna be Suck, I did not like the 5.08 and 5.04, but those episodes was more filler type, less Important episodes in my book, that is why I worry about the finale, the Series finale not should have to be slappy.

The only thing that I really gonna missing is Yvonne on my screen every week :(. CRY
I really wish the best for Her, but I'm Selfish, so Yeah I want to Her on my Screen every week, YEAH especially an HBO show, OH MY GOD.

Now going back watching, my Cara in Legend of the Seeker. XD.
Ohh how I love Her almost as Yvonne.
Tabrett Bethell also Australian Hottie :)

  9. Very true. As disappointing as I found the cliffhanger in the season 4 finale, it would have been much worse had you not given us the heads up to brace ourselves for the suck. Much appreciation for the info you've given out to the fandom.

    2. Good pod cast i am glad you touched the "oh if they only knew in time" issue that has surfaced at every weaker episode
Your way of looking at it is also pretty logical with them working it as they go being better then a fixed pre game plan

One thing i don't agree with you is your season4 commentary.. for me the first 13 episodes of season4 where far better then season5 from all points of view(besides Verbanski who's pretty awesome)

Oh and what you said about Lester is false you forgot their "moment" in season1? when she's scissoring him on the Wienerlicious desk? a guy as infatuated as Lester probably thinks he can still "have" her : )

  11. I’m someone who thinks Mad Men is genius, who loves the writing on BSG who hates those stupid CBS comedies...but I also enjoyed Baby because I want those character beats (and wish for them in the finale, in all their fanfic glory) and I’m a female shipper who’ll want to cuddle after, where does that put me?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You may like those things and think CBS sucks, but there is no way you think Baby is one of the best episodes of the series. You may have liked the emotional beats but if that's all it takes for you to enjoy the show, then you are very easy to please and we should date. ;)

      Delete
    2. I don't think Baby is one of the best episodes of the series and I did have issues with the writing, but it didn't bother me as much as I thought it would thanks to the emotional stuff. Heh. I guess I am easy to please. Let me know when you visit Australia and I’ll take you up on the offer ;)

As for what I said about season 4, you pea-brained tosser, when did I say season 4 was or wasn't better than season 5? I have to see the whole of season 5 before I can compare it, you nitwit mamma's boy.

  14. Great podcast as usual! I know your ninja hasn't seen the last two episodes edited, but your discussion about the finale episode does not make the episode sound very promising! I know you said that the finale episode concerns you, but based on what you have heard will happen, do you think that 5.12 can be a great penultimate episode like the series has given us in the past? One thing that this show can usually deliver on is great penultimate episodes!

    1. Did I cut out the part where I talked about 5.12? I know I cut some stuff out because we had a problem 3/4 of the way through but I didn't listen to everything I cut.

I'll just say that 5.12 could end the trend. But the ninja expressed to me that he has been on set for episodes he thought wouldn't be very good and then turned out great in the edit. The edit is the most important thing. Followed by the performances, then the writing (I know, some would disagree and put writing ahead of acting, but I don't).

      Delete
    2. Thank you for that! You kinda grouped both 5.12 and 5.13 together when you were talking about the finale! I really don't know how this finale will turn out now, but I guess we only have two weeks left until we find out!

  16. I had that same attitude towards the Conspiracy angle where i thought it was going to suck really bad.

Then when they actually did explain what it was it wasn't all that bad.

It didn't ruin the show for me like i thought it might.

Although if you say the shippers will love it that means i'll hate it.

If the series finale does suck it won't be a big deal to me because i don't have huge expectations for series finale's.

A lot of fans go into series finales expecting these great episodes but the thing to remember is that most shows don't have the creativity at the end to make one.

or if they do have the creativity they just don't deliver.

Their are some exceptions but for the most part finales aren't thought as the greatest episodes of most series.

As long as they don't do a big retcon i'll be happy.

Although i get this feeling that they'll kill off a character at the end and it will be Casey.

I've liked season 5 with the exception of a couple lazy episodes that have already been mentioned.
I even feel those episodes could have been great with more effort put into them.

I think the rest of the episodes have all been solid and i'm curious as to where it's heading.

We agree on the show's best seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  17. If you have liked season 5 up until this point do you think they will like the finale?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I just thought of something and I forget if you pointed this out or not but did it Chuck download the Intersect 3.0 into the computer in castle during the Shaw episode this season. So if Chuck really wanted to he could have the new version and then Chuck and Sarah can be the Intersect couple. Right?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I am one of those who discovered Chuck very late, just two months ago. I watched seasons 1-4 within a week or so, and now I'm suffering due to having to actually wait between the episodes.

I don't know if it gives me a different perspective or anything, but I imagine I wouldn't have liked certain parts too much(such as the darker times of season 3) had I watched them at "normal" pace. That is probably true for other periods of the show as well, I suppose watching it all at once makes it easier to see the big picture.

My own favorite so far is season 4 - Timothy Dalton was brilliant, no more wt/wt, and the storyline was quite strong overall.

At this point, I'm not expecting season 5 to top it. All the teasing about tragic finale, losses and sadness doesn't get me too excited. I always enjoyed the more light-hearted, heartwarming elements of the show.

Then again I'm one of those idiots who liked "the Baby" so who knows?!

    1. I love how it has turned into "idiot" when it was clearly "stupid."

  20. My condolences. we have the same custom in Greece by being unshaven for 40 days and women also wear black for 40 days.

Anyway I don't know why the writers always try to erase Bryce's arc, I mean there was Bryce in Sarah's past before Chuck we all know that but the writers keep telling us the opposite.
Second, I like Sarahsect and everything involves the Intersect and I hope to have a great execution...
Third believe that Verbanski is the second best guest star after Timothy Dalton
can't wait for the final-three episodes of Chuck

  21. Its interesting what you say about Sarah downloading the intersect. If it wasn't just happenstance it begs the question why he wants her intersected. For his control? To control Chuck? Was she the agent that was really supposed to be intersected? The bad guys angle right now is the most interesting part of the story to me right now. I hope its not completely stupid.

  22. The Bo epi had some funny jokes. Morgan's "Who wants to party with the freakin' Intersect" line was HILARIOUS!! I didn't hate the Morgansect epis like I thought I would. Sure, I think it was a dumb move by the showrunners, but it wasn't so bad. The Baby episode is worse for me. Overall, I like season 5 more than season 4. At least it isn't boring.

  24. So THE big bad of all 5 seasons is someone who is upset he never got the intersect? Boo hoo. Is that it or did I miss something crucial? Because if that’s it, it’s a good thing I don’t watch the show for plots and to get questions answered.

Also is it just me but did he seem enamoured with Sarah? Even in the promo that was him holding her chin. He probably did all this to get in her P.A.N.T.S. Literally.

What is realy scary , there are peoples who will love these poop. 5 year carachter progression just throw away, for poop like this, and these people call themself shipper pff. disgusting and unfortunately most likely these things will hapen.

However , we so invested in these Sarah lose her memory story, that may be it will be something different , or May be Chuck is the one who will forget who he is. if I would be a bad Guy I would want Chuck on my side, not Sarah or Casey just saying

I dont know but either way its cheap and lame and not good TV.
and the sad thing, they coudl be better, They can be better.
It was so hard to creat a scenario where Chuck and Sarah fight together for their Future, instead of some love melodrama?!

    1. Well, I consider myself a shipper and a lover of sappy things but I would absolutely *loathe* the finale if it has any kind of permanent memory loss/having to learn to love each other again elements in it.

Considering how Sarah has evolved throughout the series and especially during the last two seasons I certainly don't want them to throw 5 years of character growth out of the window. The whole idea is so absurd to me that it gives me some hope the writers aren't stupid enough to do it.

    2. And then I remember "Gobbler" and a few other specific "Durr.. we're writers, we can write this any way we want, durr" moments.. and it makes me think they could actually pull this off. Le sigh.

  39. Actually I stole this Idea from you, I don't really remember, wich your podcast, you said, afte Lou left the show , that you will gonna be Brave and will quit before the show over or something. :)

obviously i will stick until the end , but I think you understand my concern.

Lets play the idea . So Sarah goes Evil, try to kill the Team B and Chuck. obviously Chuck will not fight back, so probaly Sarah beat the crap out of him. than may be se escape or whatever, and the second half of the finale is try to stop her fix her whatever . And for some lame miracle , she may be get back her old self, and everything is forgiven. Or she won't remember anything at all so everything is forgiven.

My problem is the redemption. I mean some reason I sould belive that is everything is fine. I not see right now how will i feel myself satisfying and not feel Meh, like after Other Guy. And there is no "honeymooners" after this one what is give me some short of redemption.

My english is realy suck, so I can't realy express myself.

Its similar what they did with my Cara from the Legend of the Seeker.
    little Spoiler Here

Cara gets captured before the finale 2 episode. and tortured and eventually She end up in the Dark side again, Ohh my poor girl :(.
You know what was the solution? They use some magic and actually these whole scenario never happened. In the final episode of the series, All that happens is not even happened. They back the real reality and move forward.

I love Seeker my new Favorite, but this was lame :)

So I don't know how they make it in Chuck for me, to be an Acceptable finish, with this scenario.
Ofcourse I tend to be overreact, but .....

  42. The depth of love Sarah has for Chuck is the one thing that keeps me going through all the plot holes and weak spy stories. I mean you take the first scene with the laying in bed next to each other. Did anyone notice that Sarah snucked up on Chuck’s side of the bed did that to be closer to him. Colonel she did the same, during the night she just wanted to be closer to him and moved over onto his side of the bed. Last Details she moved over his side of the bed and woke him up and cuddled upto him. End of honeymooners in the bed she moved over and laid on top of him. End of suitcase she took his hand and moved her whole body into him. End of coup D’Etat she did something similar.

That is what draws me in the fact that she feels safe and happy to want to be closer to him and this last scene is a great continuation of that theme. The fact that she always stands close to him, always grabs his hand (even when they are getting married), smartens his hair, caresses his face, etc. These things do play the romance perfectly.

Love will win in the end! Doh!

  45. That TV guide article made me even more excited. I thought earlier that the Wienerlicious in the finale might be related to that alledged memory loss plot, but now they directly say that it's a Wienerlicious in Berlin where Chuck AND Sarah are tracking Quinn (to kill him).

So whatever the "Chuck versus Sarah" is about I think much of that is resolved in that episode and not carried over to the final hour.

In the retcon, she stopped in Berlin before she returned from Hungary.

    4. How would that make any sense. Sarah had a mission in baby, remembered her mother. So what Sarah was already married to Quin pre-pilot. Sarah had amnesia for 5 years? This is is not Alias. If they try to claim Sarah had amnesia this whole time I am calling BS on that.

    5. Or would it be chuck with the.amnesia? ??

  48. Fedak said something interesting in that very same interview, this show is about an average guy getting the girl of his dreams or similar words. They are not going to deviate from that, not for one second. If they did then they would be risking their legacy. I know probably when this show started the plan was probably not that, it may have been Chuck's journey to super spydom but with uncertainty and reduced budgets, etc. The best continuity on this show is the chuck and Sarah relationship. They will get it right, I can bet all the money on that.

  50. So guess I failed with my attempt to stay away from spoilers this season.

Santa suit, just overall good episode. And of course Shaw is back, and defends that there actually was at least a potential for the character and not just bad acting from BR. Found it a bit amusing that same sound effect was used to the knock out shaw got that was used back in S3.

I must say I found Vs. Baby very funny (as a father from 4 months back perspective) but, well still so lazy written. Also Yvonne handled the unexperienced baby caretaker scene really well.
Dont know how this will play out but feels there is a reason why theres been so much talk about babies, once a woman gets the idea its no stop until that idea is fulfilled... (genes, genes and well genes). But overall really stupid episode.

Kept man. Not really much to say, Carrie-Anne Moss best guest star this season (yet?) not that it says so much. And not to forget "Everything, ... it's all wrong"

Bo, nice twist at the end. But as you mention Magnus it is hard to make Sarah look more bad ass. As they tried in S4, the only difference I saw back then was more black clothes/hair and some leather...

As a general for the season, I really can't understand those fans who said that Sarah has taken a backseat this season. Do these people actually watch Chuck? Morgans relationship with Alex just does not work for me. Alex deserves someone so much better than Morgan. And Morgan on the other hand should at best wake up with Lester in drag...

As for the remainder of the series I think I'll mostly be overall satisfied, this season really need some altering towards what Fedak would call "Mythology of Chuck".
Just a little sad it won't end like an older swedish soap that were really loved by swedish families, basically after 123 episodes decided to gather every single character in a room and blow them up. Imagine the reaction that ending had:)

And not to forget, thank you Magnus for keeping on what you are doing and the things you have given to this fanbase. Always good to have a complement over my own viewing, I tend to miss some really good things in the episodes.

(Sorry for bad english, not all to well experienced with the language)

Answer this if you don't think it's too spoilery. Do you think that whatever new revelations we have in the three remaining episodes are consistent with the show's canon? Or will there be "baby-like" revelations/retcons that require too much work from the viewers to work?

Your ninja said the same thing about 5.08, right? I read there are going to be flashbacks in the 5.13 so I hope that doesn't mean that they will mess with the timeline again.

    7. I'm not reading what DR said the same way anonymous is. If 512 is a "redemption" of 508, it makes up for its sins, so to speak. But, there are people out there that don't see anything wrong with 508, so I don't know how they will react to 512.

If 513, like 508, splits fandom in half, stupid people will like it, but discerning viewers won't.

It's almost a shame that there won't be 7 days between the two episodes. We'll see them back to back and one will bleed into the other and we'll miss out on full-blown discussion of 512 all by itself without knowing what happens in 513.

What if Sarah can't control whatever She wants or not want to Flash. And may be she is like the Greta Agent, can't control her body. These can be lead she may accidentally Hurt or shot Chuck or whatever, She even think she may killed him.

I watched Chuck vs the other guy tonight and in the beginning when Chuck is telling Casey about Sarah killing shaw's wife he says " it was part of her Red test 5 years ago " . In final exam Sarah is telling Shaw she remembered everything about her red test and how that made her feel at the time . Then in vs the baby the " 5 years ago " , Sarah is a stone cold assassin that can wipe the floor with 11 bad guys ?

I kinda defended that episode when it aired , but now re watching certain episodes and the time line that was already established before vs baby is so frustrating now ! Sorry to beat the dead horse

    1. that part at least fits. 3.13 happened in 10 so 5 years ago would be 05. 5.08 was supposed to air in 12 when they wrote it so the 5 years ago would be 07. two years after her red test.

  63. Splitting the Fandom. Lets see lets make some people mad so they refuse to buy S5 on DVD. Brilliant! I found that you cannot judge anything based on different peoples perceptions. Some love a certain episode, some hate it. Some think it is EPIC and some think it is LAME. If they dissapoint me and undo 5 years of character growth then it's quite easy. Watch the finale and pocket the $60 that I would have spent on S5 and turn the page on Chuck. Looking back will it have been about the show or the fandom?

    2. Very true. I know I can't speak for all fans but If I watch the finale and I come out it saying WTF then to me Chuck will be like the crazy ex. 3. As I always say, the "hardcore fans" who post on the Internet and project their "power" represent a tiny minority of the entirety of those watching. So, they don't matter in the grand scheme of things. Which is why you don't write for them unless you like what they are demanding.

There is a reason why network executives ignore Internet polls and the like. They never translate to revenue. EVER.

    2. Could be... but at least to me telling viewers that they've been lied to for 5 years feels like an incredibly stupid move. Not bold, not shocking, just stupid.

And lets be honest, there's been no foreshadowing whatsoever.

    3. There was no foreshadowing that Sarah saved a baby and gave it to her mom either.

    4. (Not saying the spec is accurate but...)
If memory serves, there was some comment by DR back in "Business Trip" about how we may eventually learn why Sarah passed the lie detector test so easily.

I don't think that comment was ever followed up on, unless my memory is faulty.

Also, as part of my "best episodes" re-watch, I saw Chuck vs. The Truth yesterday. In that episode, pentathol didn't even work on her.

If she WERE a double agent, she'd be pretty good at covering it up.

    5. 'If memory serves, there was some comment by DR back in "Business Trip" about how we may eventually learn why Sarah passed the lie detector test so easily.'

True... granted, that may have been one of those story lines they abandoned. OR... she is a double agent!

    6. "There was no foreshadowing that Sarah saved a baby and gave it to her mom either"

True, but while the execution of that revelation might have been lacking (due to failing to explain wth Sarah's mom was doing when her kid was running around with a conman father), it really wasn't that bad idea.. just poorly done. This double agent thing would destroy the character as we know it.

      Delete
  67. It wouldn't be the first time they--or any other TV writers--abandoned a story idea. In hindsight, it WAS an odd thing to be in the episode. It's presence could have been to establish that the lie detector device could be fooled at all and explain why the assassin could fool it, also.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yup. It could have been that simple.

    Theory
This Nicolas guy, somehow forced Sarah to work for Him. 5.12. We lead to belive she Turned, she even may shot at Chuck. May be everyone think Chuck is dead
everyone think Sarah is bad. then 5.13 kind of like in the Other Guy somewhere between the first 10-12 minute, there is a secret meeting between Chuck and Sarah, wich involve a hot Sex scene, and it revealing for us, that THIS is a Chuck and Sarah Game, This is all theirs master plan.
Proving that these two realy trust only just each other. May be even a litle comfort for Sarah, from Chuck, after the hot Sex of course, for the obvious reasons. and the rest of it is Action. including Chuck and Sarah vs everybody, the super Spy couple, may be Chuck even get back the Intersect somehow.

and the ending, how know ?!
I would love to see a flashforward, where they already have kids. or Sarah just telling Chuck she is pregnant?! but for me the flashforward would work better. I'm guilty as a Crazy Shipper I won't denied. But listening and another Yvonne interview, I'm not sure the kids or the flashforward , may be realy she just telling Chuck she is pregnant. for a kind of open ending for us imagination.
But as i said Crazy Shipper here, so I want to see their kids :)

  78. My 2 cents of the seasons, if you don't mind. :)
S1 & S2: I think what made seasons 1 & 2 so darn compelling is the plot wherein the bad guys (Fulcrum) were in search for the lead character. It only strengthened the mythology and interest behind the Intersect's importance. You could tell from the very 1st episode of Fulcrum's appearance (Vs The Nemesis)that Team B and Fulcrum were headed to a collision course. We felt that sense of danger for the lead character.

S3: S3 was compelling in that Team B were out to destroy the core of Fulcrum, the Ring, which was only enforced by Team B's history of dealing with Fulcrum.

S4: S4's overarching plot sucked because they just came up with the Volkoff arc out of nowhere to connect to the Mama B storyline. The 20 year mission thing was just stupid and pointless. Would've preferred a darker turn where Mama B was a complex character that went away because she truly did become a dark spy mastermind.

Or it would've been great had S4 been about Team B targeting Orion's villain files under his basement to piece together why Orion himself was so concerned of them. And then, they could've worked in the Mama B storyline with those baddies.

S5: It had potential had the Shaw conspiracy foreshadowing been a lot earlier to give us the feel that there was an overarching baddie not some stupid made up conspiracy.

    1. I always thought that the S4 plot would have been better if Mama B would have been agent X and the big bad and she was just using Volkoff to hide the fact . That would have explained the 20 year absent thing due to the personality shift or even a memory issue of the old intersect download . Other than a handful of enjoyable eps that season , the outline for it was a mess .

  79. Just an observation about the Quinn character after watching again last night...

They said he worked for Fulcrum, The Ring, and Volkoff. But, he also said he spent over a year captured after the Intersect was put into Chuck. Unless they are sloppy, that implies he didn't really work for Fulcrum until about halfway through Season 2. By then, they had their own Intersect, albeit one they could only get to work well in Chuck.

I'm presuming that if he worked for volkoff, he had dealings with Frost.

I wonder if any of this becomes relevant.
