  1. I don't expect Bo Derek to be a great guest star.

Other than that, I hope thing to be clearer about the final arc. We know that there is a "final four" bad guy. We know that there is a "final mission" that somehow lasts four episodes.

But, we know nothing about why that mission and bad guy are so important that it does last four episodes. Right now, it's just "a mission".

    ReplyDelete
  2. The "last mission" doesn't necessarily last for four episodes, it could be just the seed that sets the final bundle of unfortunate events into motion. Like the "one more day till retirement" cliche.

    1. Yes, it could be a series of missions with the same bad guy or a cascade of events, as you say. But, that still makes me wonder what it's all about.

Other than there being a hostage situation of a Bullet train, but synopses are very vague about that part of it.

  3. Yeah, right now I'm intrigued to figure out how the final bad guy factors into everything. There has to be a reason he shows up and a reason why he's going after Chuck and Sarah and Co., so I'm excited to get some more info on that.

  4. My second prediction for tonight:

At some point in the comments after the episode, there will be a discussion of Chuck & Sarah's sex life or lack thereof.

  5. Will people even remember they have a sex life after tonight? ;)

    1. Well, either way it means one week of incessant whining and moaning or two. The one constant is the whining. And the moaning. Where am I going to go to watch irrational freakouts when Chuck is done? That more than anything else really brings home that its nearly over. *sniff*

Apropos of nothing, I just watched a video of Yvonne eating raw herring with some annoying woman. Gotta love weird traditions.

  8. I'm not expecting much from this epi. It will probably be more set up.. Chuck and Sarah once again entertain the idea of quitting the spy life.. :P

  9. Yvonne really does deserve some major credit for the way she is promoting this finale. I just read the latest snippet over in EW, using words like "bold choice" and "disconcerting". I love it!

  12. If someone does lose their memory and it's permanent (even at the very end) well that would be stupid. It would take away from the whole 5 seasons of development for that character (and memories).

I hate memory wipe endings (poor Donna on Doctor Who). It's just as bad as the "it was all a dream".

    ReplyDelete
  13. I love the whole Bo Derek thing and I am glad the whole jeffester trying to find out about spies and everybody don't say anything about the ending we don't want to be jerks to people that have just started or is getting up to dated and starting season 5. ok

    ReplyDelete
  14. I guessed that ending.

  15. I have to say, I'm tired of everybody and their mother having the intersect.

    1. I heard it was a great episode though.

    2. I don't see how it is a cop-out. A cop-out is when you refuse to do something. This is the opposite of a cop-out.

  17. So what was taken away from Chuck & Sarah?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I liked the episode. Of course, I have known about Sarah becoming the Intersect since the end of last season and what would become of that whole story... but I liked how it was utilized in the episode.

HOWEVER, there were problems with this one as well. I will probably write my review of it tomorrow or much later tonight/morning. But I will likely give it an above average score with some comments about poor pacing, comedic timing, and one bit of melodrama.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The intersect.....and very funny whoever said there would be hotness. Fedak sucks yet again.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Love to read everyone's nitpicking here. Seriously fun. I, for one, completely LOVED this episode. But bring on the nitpicking!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Curse you lack of proper hotness. Curse you to all heck.

I liked the episode, though. I was sidetracked by Bo Derek a bit too (when I wasn't going agaga over Yvonne that is) but then.. they slam you in the side of the face with the bit at the end. Just wow. And it looks like the next episode has her getting the same sort of issues that Chuck had at the tail end of S3.. though it's odd Sarah gets them so quick.

Either way.. looking forward to the review, and.. is it next Friday yet?

    1. I know they have been all over the place in regards to the effects of the Intersect, but I always preferred the early assumptions. That is that different people have different receptivity to the Intersect. Chuck's is very high. Other people got exposed to it and got catatonic or insane or die.

Morgan's receptivity may have been moderately high. But, Sarah's could be borderline.

Either that or they will say that this is another Intersect with a flaw like Morgan's had.

      Delete
    2. i'm think maybe that's the point. having sarah deterierate so quickly further demonstrates how special chuck's brain really is. i don't know if thats the reason but it could be. i hope there's not a memory wipe out for sarah in the finale

      Delete
    3. Something tells me you may not get your wish. That would be "slightly tragic".

      Delete
    4. I actually like the idea of Sarah loosing her memory. Then Chuck can win her over without the intersect and prove that Quinn guy wrong. Although there isn´t really enough time for that.

      Delete
  22. I really liked that twist a lot, particularly with the preview for next week showing where it is going. Good episode. They seemed to pack a lot in.

The Buy More stuff was really funny. "Big Michele" indeed. I liked how they interwove Jeff and Lester throughout, had them find out the secret, and then gave them an out. But, I sense, we haven't seen the end of those two being part of a mission.

I have to say, I wasn't totally sold on the Nicholas Quinn character. I think his motivation is interesting. But, the actor didn't own his scenes the way that Timothy Dalton did.

I could get caught up in plot holes. Like, why is a display they put up in November still there? In the real retail world, it would have been replaced by several others by now. But, that was so small a part of the episode. So, he hid it. Whatever.

Bo Derek was better than I thought she would be.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Sounds like you forgot about the Buy More laziness. ;)Safecodes aren´t changed and displays are only switched out twice a year or so?

The gender switched Buy More stuff was funny.

  23. The lack of hotness has already commenced. After all the episodes already this season, people are still going into episodes expecting hotness? The ship sailed long ago folks.

I am excited Sarah has it, but it would have been far more better and shocking if like it's already been stated "everyone and their mother seems to have had the intersect now".

Also if it was in the works for Sarah to have the intersect since last season, why in the world give it to Morgan? Morgan should never have had it in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah.. not sure why give it to Morgan either. I think it was like "Let's see how many cast members we can give the intersect" Haha.

Still.. I'm curious as to why Sarah was basically already experiencing the pains that Chuck went through at the end of S3. I guess that's just a way to show Chuck's truly special enough to have it.. that or just a plothole of sorts to make sure she's not as overpowered as she really could be with the intersect on full time. It's just like Superman movies and all that. Have to weaken him somehow, or he'd just run train over everyone. I guess they did that with Sarah in 4x11.

Still.. I'm pumped for next week.

      Delete
    2. Because they ran out of story lines.

I'm not kidding about that. So, they went for "let's just do the craziest stuff this season" route.

      And they did.

      Delete
    3. "Lack of hotness" complaints. I called it.

Seriously, at least they were in bed at the same time for a few minutes, albeit with Chuck fast asleep.

      Delete
    4. Yeah but seems Sarah getting the intersect was going to be their main drama for the end, so why de-value that by already doing Morgan in the earlier part of the season. Just lazy and poor. Also if they ran out of story lines, why not have more self contained episodes and just more CS sex, simple! LOL

      Delete
    5. I actually think the way they used Morgan's time in the Intersect kind of made up for some of the mistakes earlier in the season.

      Delete
    6. Perhaps, but I still think it cheapens Sarah having it.

  24. This episode was just pure FUN.

  26. What is really funny is that I posted two kind of big spoilers way back in the summer and people dismissed them (I think even that douche over at ChuckTV commented on it, telling her readers that her super secret BS sources denied it).

Yet again, even when I'm NOT posting spoilers, I prove that my sources are deep inside the production.

    4. Seriously. With all the boxes and titles in Orion's basement, they ran out of story lines. Now we really need a movie to start the series over from start to finish correctly.

  27. Jeff and Lester were great once again. Hopefully their upward trend continues through the finale.

    If Casey dies, I'll cry.

  28. Ha. I just completely missed the big spoilers you may have posted because I sort of extracted myself from the fandom during the hiatus/break thing.

Still.. I didn't mean to sound like I was complaining about the 'lack of sexy times' because let's be honest.. we all know that's in the past anyway. Was more of a joke based on what DR said.

As it were, I'm still anxious to see where they go with this crazy storyline of theirs if they did indeed run dry on ideas. Didn't your ninja say 5.11 was a really solid one? Or are we past those he'd seen. I can't remember.

    1. I am pretty sure the ninja who "reviews" episodes for me loved 5.03, 5.07, and 5.11 the most.

And before someone asks about 5.12 and 5.13... I may talk about them on the next podcast, whenever I do one again... which may be never at this point.

  29. I really liked this one. It made me laugh quite a bit

Bo Derek was a good sport about things. I enjoyed the groundhogdayification of Jeff and Lester. I'm glad Chuck was actually cute instead of annoying in this one. I also dug the bad guys backstory and why he's after Chuck.

My only real problem was the flashbacks dragged on a little too long for me.

  31. Not bad, not great, kind of a reset/set-up kind of episode again. I honestly enjoyed the Jeffster stuff more than the main storyline. And Quinn feels kind of like yet another sudden villain from left field. I'd kind of preferred if they drew on an existing villain like Shaw for the final showdown.

But then the last five minutes...hooboy.

  32. Gonna add to previous comments that I thought the Chuck/Sarah/Bo Derek stuff was really cute. Sarah cracked me up with her reaction to Bo Derek's accusal of what Chuck may have been doing with the poster.

    1. It is complicated... one, he hasn't seen them edited. Two, I need to kind of talk about it to explain his position on it and mine (based on everything I've heard).

He and I both agree on the potential reaction by the fans. Essentially, what Yvonne's been saying is to keep the fans from shooting their television sets with a shotgun before the whole thing ends.

    2. I don't understand this part,

"Essentially, what Yvonne's been saying is to keep the fans from shooting their television sets with a shotgun before the whole thing ends."

hasn't what Yvonne's been saying (by calling it "tragic") doing the opposite effect? Also, both you and Yvonne said the end is satisfying. Do you stil stand by that?

      Delete
    3. "He and I both agree on the potential reaction by the fans. Essentially, what Yvonne's been saying is to keep the fans from shooting their television sets with a shotgun before the whole thing ends."

That's hilarious and interesting given people have been throwing hissyfits already just from what she's been saying. OMG, if she's actually softening the blow I think some people are going to need to be put on suicide watch.

      Delete
    4. Intersect Sarah forgets Chuck and hooks up with Shaw resulting in a Shaw/Sarah baby that Chuck has to raise. Now that would cause the fans to shoot their TV's.

      Delete
  34. And in my usual ways... when someone guessed that Sarah would get the Intersect, I told them they were right.

  35. I liked the episode but i've never liked how this show has the intersect involved in everything they do.

That's my one major criticism of the show.

I don't think they needed to use the intersect as a plot device this season or even last season.

  39. There was lots of funny stuff in the ep, but it was a bit strangely paced and somehow managed to turn a little boring in between.

Loved the ending. It made complete sense, that Sarah would take that risk when she didn´t have any lead on Chuck. She tends to go a little crazy when she loses him.

I guess they will have her experience problems right away. And with all those different versions and different consequences of people having the intersect, whe have seen, they certainly can play it that way.

Looked more likes Chuck´s problems in season 3 than Morgan´s virus issues or the Greta´s turned off emotions, but we will see. Shaw didn´t seem to have any problems strangely enough.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well, perhaps there is a reason why Shaw didn't have a problem. Or why Morgan had it for a while and didn't have a problem. Or why Sarah has it for a short time but has a problem.

      Delete
    2. Agreed on the pacing, awelle. There were good moments in there, but it didn't engage constantly and flow naturally the way a great episode does.

It could be derived from the s3 version rather than the emotional-suppressant GRETAsect or the Trojan Horse Morgansect. There's so many versions running around now that there's a lot of effects they could have chosen from for Sarah.

Shaw didn't have problems because according to the crazy shippers, he's a block of wood that has no emotions.

      Cor

      Delete
    3. In regards to Sarah having a problem.. part of me just wants to say "Plot Hole Device ahoy'. Really really reminds me of how they treat Superman in movies/comics.. they've got to have him have a major crutch or he'd just wtfpwn everything in sight. Give the intersect to Sarah Walker and not have it have side effects? She'd run bullet-train (see what I did there?) on everything.

Then again, I'm sure I'm 100% wrong and there's some other 'mythology related' reason why it's messing up for her.

      Delete
    4. There definitely could be. That´s what I meant by they can play it in lots of different ways and throw in some explanation, that could make sense. Can´t really judge if it does, before they give it.

And just to give everyone something to moan about, maybe the intersect goes haywire at once in a pregnant woman´s brain. ;)

      Delete
    5. I think these writers have established that a woman's mind is more delicate than a man's and that she needs to make babies and breakfast to feel complete. So, getting the big bad Intersect in her head make blondie head hurtz!

      Delete
    6. Awelle--
What an evil thought. I think they laid the pregnancy scare to rest, but they never did explain why Sarah thought she might be pregnant and her symptoms.

      Delete
    7. Ok, reading this hurts my head. I wish Ellie had at some point had the intersect and been just as good at processing it than Chuck is.

      Delete
    8. My head hurt comment is directed at DR´s comment not at MediaSavant´s. I felt that the pregnancy scare was just a scare as well.

I know that DR is very much exaggerated, but I really hope they don´t go in that direction in the slightest.

      Delete
  40. Yeah, I never caught you answering yes to the Sarah having intersect thing, otherwise I'd put more stock into it.

And yeah.. the fans who paint this doom and gloom portrait are probably just trying to think *so* negatively, when something good/positive happens, they can be 'pleasantly surprised' by the whole ordeal or whatever. For me.. I'm just excited for whatever we get because any of the "Chuck" drama has never really been *too* dramatic.. only as dramatic as some of the fandom chooses to think about it. I've got hopes that it'll be a fun ride though!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's actually a pretty sad ride from here on in. Like I (and now Yvonne) said, it kind of surprised me when I heard about the finale because I thought they would go for a more... Lord of the Rings type ending. You know, lots of sweet or sad goodbyes (which I think is appropriate for a show like this).

How fans will absorb that will be interesting to see.

      Delete
    2. I say sad ride... but there are definitely uplifting and funny moments. But generally, it's not what I think anyone would have expected three months ago.

      Delete
    3. Well, fans like myself who visit here will be well-prepared.

      Delete
    4. I expected that as well, but I also like unexpected endings. So I am looking forward to just watch it unfold.

I still wouldn´t have minded the last 10 minutes or so to be quieter and more emotional. Don´t like the "edge of the seat until the very last minute" idea. But maybe they manage something like this with much less time devoted to it.

      Delete
    5. Well, LotR didn't exactly end happily for Frodo, so there's precedent right there.

I honestly would have expected something at least mostly conventionally "happily ever after" since, with a few moments like Papa B's death excepted, Chuck is generally a very low-stakes show when it comes to inflicting lasting damages. If they're pulling the unexpected it'll be interesting to watch.

      Cor

      Delete
    6. It does get "quieter" but I probably would have done it differently.

And there is the potential that... if the actors aren't totally on their game, that it will suuuuuuuuuuuck like MISFITS season 3.

And I'd imagine for the finale and thus the last statement you'll ever make as an actor on this show, that's even more incentive to be on your A+ game.

I have the feeling that if they have the house and kids, it'll be a quieter future that feels justifiably earned by the ordeal of the finale.

After all, to bring up the LotR comparison that DR started, the hobbits all got to go back home to the Shire like they dreamed, but it doesn't mean it was all warm and fuzzy after they went through utter hell.

    2. That actually sounds pretty good to me. But I enjoy drama a lot.

    3. Agreed with Cor, we've spent too much time focusing on the dream home/baby talk for that not to factor in somehow.

Still hoping we get there without having our heroes stripped out of their memories of each other and having to re-learn them or other such nonsense... but I'm not so sure at this point.

    5. But, the house talk kind of reminds me of Orion's basement in Season 4. A lot of fans thought that would continue to be an important element of the the show.

The writers blew it up a third of the way through the season. Maybe NOT getting the house is part of sadness at the end.

    3. Went back and re-read it also. That was so long ago I forgot about it. Reading some of your comments then and now knowing where they filmed some of the finale is also very interesting.

I've said this before, but you are brilliant. I found something else while I was looking that was also interesting, but I think I'll just file that away until the finale.

  50. Pretty great episode. I laughed quite a bit at the early parts and I definitely didn't see that ending coming. To me that was the "never in a million years scenario" since why give Sarah the Intersect? She was already a super bad ass spy? But I give the writers mucho credit for going with it. It certainly threw a monkey wrench into the plans and I think it will make for some great moments next week. I also liked a lot of the Morgan stuff and the Jeff and Lester bit was at least well integrated into the episode. Looking forward to but also dreading the finale push next week :(

  51. You've made it known that it's more of a sad ride to the finish line and have expressed that you're interested to see how the fandom will react.

But how do you like the way it's going to end?

  52. Cor, in the book, the hobbits return and the Shire has been taken over by Saruman. So they have to fight a final war to take it back. That is something Jackson cut from the movies because he felt it was to heavy of a subject for the audience to absorb after going through so much.

And he may have been right.

I'm not saying that the CHUCK finale is the Scouring of the Shire, but I guess it is somewhere between the two ideas. It's never as sweet if there is no pain getting there.

    1. I'd actually feel 'meh' if it was all horse rides and happy times. I like when characters work hard for something and it's not just..given to them. I'd like to see them earn their own sort of happy ending, even if we don't really *see* said happy ending flesh out completely. That leaves for the audience's imagination!

So I'm all good for whatever's to come.

      Delete
    2. DR, I've read it and yeah, the Shire storyline Tolkien wrote really was a massive gut punch. But even Jackson's movies did a pretty good job of hitting the WWI-inspired theme of "You can never go home again" fully because the ordeal's changed you so much.

And Wyndzorz, agreed. If they get the house and everything after that, it'll be far more meaningful than all the recent complaining and fretting about how they want out of the spy game and thinking in this episode they'd just gracefully step right out of it into "normal" life.

  53. Sarah??? intersect???? At the begining of the season The show should have called "Morgan" and now should called "Sarah".
It's ridiculous... Whole season was built up on other's stories...
    First Morgan was the intersect...
    Casey and verbanski..
Sarah and shaw and torture and baby and her mother and her handler, pregnancy and now intersect...

Chuck became a funny character like jeff and lesster.. He is in most of the scenes but the story arc wasn't about him directly...
Please watch this season again you'll see what I mean...

We'll see sarah in a hospital ??? because in the promo she hurt again... (like in last season )or she'll lose her memory???
Yvonne said something will taken away from them: their past or her memory???

or casey will shot again or anybody except chuck????

    1. You did see that Chuck was abducted in the end of this episode, didn´t you? Chuck being lost to her and her being left with no way to get him back was the only reason Sarah used the intersect glasses.

  57. Yvonne Strahovski says that she read her script, and said "She (Sarah) keeps a secret from Chuck" (The secret being the intersect) and that beyond that something else happens, which made her react "OMG how will they every get through this?" I'm thinking something happens or she does something under the influence of the intersect, that causes a rift in their relationship, or at least makes things hard for them.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I don´t recall Yvonne talking about Sarah keeping a secret. I thought that was from the description of 5.12. And that would mean the secret can´t be the intersect, as Chuck finds out about that in 5.11 per the promo.

And the 5.12 description mentions Sarah returning from a mission with a secret. So whatever happens on that mission could be what you describe, but that would then also be the secret.

  58. Great episode! Just caught it on DVR after work scrape jaw off of floor after last few minutes!! Loved the Jacklyn Smith reference - hilarious! Jeffster hijinks also were also great. Loved the Vail anti-Buy More.

I am really hoping for more payoff from Decker's episode at the end of last season. He seemed to allude to a MUCH bigger back story than what we have seen so far, linking a whole bunch of early episodes in a new way.

  59. I'm thinking something happens or she does something under the influence of the intersect, that causes a rift in their relationship, or at least makes things hard for them.

Maybe she kills someone they know? Whatever it is though it's not in her control, so it can't cause that much of a rift. Her actions aren't her own.

  60. After Yvonne's comments, surprisingly many people guessed *the loss* would be memories, and it sure seems possible Sarah is headed that way.

I still think Chuck and Sarah will get their (at least relatively) happy ending, but I've never been a huge fan of memory-loss storylines and so I certainly hope that if it happens it will get dealt with long before the finale is over.

It the show ends with Sarah still having a fuzzy memory I think I'd throw something at the tv and then try to find something to erase the last 5 years of Chuck from my brain. :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. Sarah will get corrupted by the intersect. She will be forced to take on Chuck in episode 5.12 and forget they are married in 5.13. That sounds like something up Fedak's alley. Am I am warm?

    1. I'm not going to confirm or deny that but I will say that it is at least a logical way of seeing the current setups. However, it could be even worse than that.

    2. Worse than that, that is about Angsty as I can take. What the hell is Fedak's thinking?

    3. "Worse than that, that is about Angsty as I can take. What the hell is Fedak's thinking?"

I'm not sure either. I don't mind drama or moderate amounts of angst but hopefully things stay faithful to the mostly light-hearted tone of the show.

I'm really bothered by the memory loss thing because it's a plot device I've never seen used successfully. Or at least in a way that *I* would have liked.

I can only hope it's not a permanent thing, and that it will get resolved long before the finale ends but based on what we've heard it doesn't sound like that.

      Delete
    4. Worse than that? Worse is like her killing Ellie or something, or thinking she's married to Shaw.

I too don't mind angst and drama and I don't want their happiness to be achieved without some battles, but this is still Chuck not some dark and twisty show. Good needs to defeat evil, dreams need to be realised, and of course there has to be some emotional consequences in getting to that but there's also a line.

      Delete
    5. Unless worse means she could die. But that was the set up for last season's finale. No one believes anyone named Chuck or Sarah will die. So most likely it's something she does that is shocking.

      Delete
    6. There's still that promised death (or 2). So, "worse than that" could be Sarah's being the one responsible.

      Delete
  62. That does sound likely. But even if Sarah is corrupted by the intersect I don´t like the idea of being supposed to root for Chuck against Sarah in any way. And it will be for her own good of course.

This might turn out to be a new and elevated way of the "take Sarah out for the finale" approach.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Some wanted Chuck to worry more for Sarah in Santa Suit. I can see now why there wasn't much of that there, they were leaving it for these episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Chuck has the intersect in his P.A.N.T.S. Eps. 5.12 /Chuck vs. Sarah. They take on each other like him and Morgan did and he has to get her memory back. Then Beckman has to come in and erase both their memories. She gets killed by Quinn which causes all of them to get out of the spy business. They all move away. Happy ending.

  65. As long as the show ends up with Chuck and Sarah married & together and their memories intact (very important!), I can accept multiple ways of how they get there.

However if the above isn't where the show ends, I know I will be disappointed by the finale, and it would undoubtedly ruin the show's lasting legacy for as me well.

    2. Completely agree. I can handle some major angst/drama as long as we have that solid ending point. If not.. it'd be like going to a wonderful movie, only for the ending to be terrible leaving that lasting impression of "Wow.. this could have been so much better."

    3. They can always make new memories.

  66. Worst than that??
Nicholas Quin can make sarah hurt chuck?? This is the secret??
Sarah can erase chuck's memory to protect him??

    ReplyDelete
  67. Perhaps, through the intersect malfunction, Sarah loses the love, but also reveals to Chuck that all along she was following a mission. To handle him, in any way, to have the control of the intersect or the family that can make/handle the intersect, including convincing him she loves him, insert herself into his family/friends and marry him (this would explain showing us her conversation with Graham before meeting Chuck, as well as Decker's comment that this goes waaay back). Chuck realizes he was betrayed and Sarah, who will of course be returned to normal, now has to convince Chuck that despite all this she does in fact love him.

  77. Casey will die. His death will bring Alex and Morgan together for good. It will also be the reason why Morgan leaves the spy business (Alex doesn't want to lose anyone else that she loves). Speaking of losses, Sarah's memory will be wiped because of the intersect. She and Chuck go into hiding, with him now serving as her protector. The series has come full circle. It ends with a flash forward where Sarah and Chuck are a happy couple with children. Then an email will be sent to Chuck by..........John Casey. It will be the latest version of the intersect. Casey has been doing undercover work for years and has adopted a new identity. A global threat has emerged that only the human intersect can stop. Unfortunately, one of the Bartowski children opens the email and.....

I sincerely hope that nothing I wrote actually happens.
