Dear DR: Life is Beautiful (and remember how that movie ended?)

WARNING! SPOILERS WITHIN!

First, FOLLOW ME on Twitter by clicking this link.

Second, please do not copy and paste this blog on your site.  Please only write a short (couple of sentences) summary and then link to here.  Thank you.

OK... so CHUCK season 4 is just one gigantic love letter to the fans!  There is nothing that will actually get the shippers or crazy shippers going nuts because the Chuck and Sarah universe is perfect and baby bunnies are bouncing around in a field of paradise!  Everything is lovely! LALALALALA!

OR IS IT?!

Let's get to the questions!

Magnus! Love your blog and podcast! I thank you for the teaser spoilers too. My question is this... will Chuck and Sarah get engaged and/or married this season?! Thanks! -- Cuddles

Dear Cuddles, I am glad you enjoy all things me.  I am your hero.  As for your question, you will find out by watching the episodes.  I will say this, the whether Chuck and Sarah are going to be engaged and/or married story line of this season was decelerated when they got the extra 14 episodes.  So, that will not be resolved (for good or bad) as soon as originally intended.  Oh and please call me DR or Dear DR around here.  Never use my name!  Thanks.

What are the chances of a CHUCK movie? If you were going to raise funds as a fan base, what would be your strategy.  -- Larry

Larry, Larry, Larry... my friend until the end... great podcaster of Every1Talks... my risk management partner in crime... you should know my answer to this (I feel like you set me up on this one).  I will never, ever, nevereverevernever support a fan attempt to raise funds to make more episodes or a movie for the show.  Though, I will happily put together such an effort and control the PayPal fund to which everyone donates... and then give it all to charity!  Sure, it is shifty but if we are going to raise millions of dollars to make 1 or 2 extra hours of CHUCK, wouldn't it make more sense to save hundreds or thousands of lives instead?  That's just me.  I am weird.  AND EVIL!

Can we get the guy who legally changed his name to "Captain Awesome" on the show?! -- Anonymous Dippy

Well, he can be on my podcast any time he wants!  Open invitation!  Ohhhh, you meant on CHUCK.  Sure.  I will tell Josh Schwartz to make it happen... because he listens to me.  I mean, if you legally change your name to a character on the show, then you should really get a set visit and AT LEAST be an extra in a scene.  Anyone else want on the show?  I can make these things happen.

Is Chuck going to move beyond the Buy More? I really liked the possibility of the bat cave / Batman type scenario at the beginning of the season. Will we see him venture off to be an independent crime fighter? Thanks. Really enjoy your blog. -- Jedi

Independent crime fighter?  When was he ever on a path to be that?  You mean like the dude on BURN NOTICE?  Please, no.  Chuck is a spy for the United States of America.  He is the great American hero!

Dear DR, Linda Hamilton and Timothy Dalton are tremendous new assets for the show. Any idea if they will make appearances beyond the first 13 episodes? -- Diane

Yes, I do have an idea.

Will we be getting even a small game changing scenario at the end of episode 13, that will move the show into new direction? -- Harku

I think it has already been leaked by Ryan that Baby Awesome arrives in that episode, so that is an easy question to answer.  Yes.

Will we be getting some more Sarah and/or Casey centric episodes in the back 14 or maybe Sarah/Casey centric storyline?  I kind of miss their partnership.  -- Harku asking too many questions

Sarah will be getting some focus.  Casey?  Ummm... well, it is difficult to focus on someone who is ... never mind.

During Comic-Con Mark Christopher Lawrence spoiled that there would be a baby and a wedding in season four. We already know baby Awesome is coming in 4.13, but any info on the wedding? I guess if it happes in the next three, it's the Big Mike/Bolonia wedding that was set up in Cubic Z. -- vm

I have seen this discussed elsewhere by fans who have somehow convinced themselves that MCL was talking about a Chuck and Sarah wedding in season 4.  I am pretty sure that he was speaking strictly about Big Mike and Bolonia.  Unfortunately for them (sorry, Patricia, you know I have lots of love for you), the writers seem to have forgotten all about that setup, or moved it into much later back end of the story.

As we have seen this season Sarah opens up more and more of her emotional side. She is different without Chuck. She wants to spend her life with Chuck and eventually marry him. So with this huge and rather fast progression, is there any chance this will affect her life as a spy in a negative way? -- Oliver

Sarah is going to come to a realization very soon... one that some fans will not like.  Correction!  One that some fans will RAGE against.  Bring on Chuckpocalypse 4!  Or... 5.  What are we up to now?

WAIT! STOP! Are you saying that Sarah decides something that will affect her and Chuck in a negative way? But the writers said they would not break them up this season! You are just messing with us! -- Crazy Shipper Sock Puppet

I guess if someone ignores your phone calls, then you can't break up.  I think I am still dating this girl from six years ago because we never said we were broken up.

You are a liar! Sure, your spoilers have all panned out in the past but this time you are LYING! -- Mo Ron.

Yeah, you figured me out.  I decided that after 100% accuracy rate on these things that I would torpedo my reputation with this one lie.  That makes sense.  Now, am I giving you all the information you may need?  Nope.  But is this an issue that will not actually upset anyone?  Nope.  I DO think now that I have mentioned it, that some people will not react as badly to it.  But the Blame-Sarah-First segment of this fandom will certainly have massive amounts of ammunition.  Even I was like "Wait, she does what?!"  Then I laughed because the writers are evil... and I like evil because good is dumb.

Can you tell us if there is more to the intersect suppression-reacquisition storyline than was showed?  Mama B seemed to know a lot more than she should have.  That can't be it for that storyline, can it? -- Mamemimomu

It CAN certainly be it for that story line.  But is it?  Despite what fan fic writers like to think, the show writers are not idiots.

Will there be a chance of a musical episode? -- dsa

NO!

Is there any bigger crazy shipper TV critic then Alan Sepinwall?  -- Big Jake

Sepinwall is not now, nor has he ever been, a crazy shipper. He IS crazy... about TV.  But his love for Chuck and Sarah has not always been focused on putting them together or keeping them together.  He has actually complimented the writers for keeping them apart in previous seasons.  So, that automatically disqualifies him as a crazy shipper.

Dear DR, let me say once again that the latest podcast is great! I enjoyed it immensely and anyone who hasn't listened, should! My question is regarding the continued 'wussification' of Chuck Bartowski. Will we continue to see this trend or will Chuck the hero re-emerge? -- PeterOinNJ

Well, because you listened to the podcast and said it was "great," I will answer your question: Chuck will get one of those epic hero moments somewhere in the next 4 or 5 episodes.  Maybe even more than once... in the same episode.

Many speculate a Chuck/Sarah engagement by 4.14, and marriage by the end of the season. IF this scenario were to play out and IF the show was to get a season 5 (big if’s, I know), are you optimistic that with the backdrop of a married Chuck and Sarah, and Ellie /Devon with a kid, the writers could still conjure up compelling plot lines for 13 or more additional episodes? Great podcast by the way.  -- bg

I was going to mock this one but then you said the podcast is great so now I am conflicted.  Hmmm... well, IF all those things happen, and Chuck learns to fly, and Sarah gets invisibility powers, then I am sure the writers could come up with something for a 5th season.  Actually, I think having Chuck and Sarah engaged/married would create more story-lines for the show.  However, from a milestone point of view, I think a 5th season would be a nice finishing point.  Granted, I still think the show runners should announce they are doing that in season 4 and writing all their best ideas in the final 14 episodes.  Why chance it?  So what if season 5 suffers?  CHUCK would still have more awesome seasons than most shows.

DR, can you tell us something awesome about the coming episodes?  And I mean without hinting or teasing like you love to do?  An actual spoiler?  I do love your teasers but something like your Roan spoiler where there is no interpretation necessary?  I love you! I really do. -- SexyKitten

Well, since you love me... I will give you one.  But not right now.  Later.  When you least expect it.  And it will make everyone very happy.  And NO... it has nothing to do with proposals, engagements, or marriages!

I really hope for a Tron poster type moment this season. I think it was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen on any show. What is the chance of there being something like that? Oh and I donated via PayPal. I hope it helps. -- Dani

Thanks, Dani!  And thank you to all those who have donated.  You all rock!  For your kindness I will give you this one: I am told there will be a "WOAH!" Chuck moment coming soon.  I am very excited about it.  Very, very excited about it.

Illustrious Magnus, people should change their names to honor you! Any thoughts on the rumor that Phil Klemmer is returning to Chuck? -- Erica

NO NAMES!  But I like the sentiment.  As for Phil Klemmer coming back... first off, it is not a rumor.  It is true.  Second, he did write some great episodes so I imagine it is a good thing for the show.  Now I just want Matt Miller and Ali Adler back so we can put Team ER together again.  I tweeted that I wouldn't mind a one episode trade between NOF and CHUCK to get Ali.  She seemed to like the idea.

Your spoilers say Sarah leaves Chuck for another man. But the show runners said Chuck and Sarah will not break up. I know your spoilers are true so I am not saying that won't happen, but can you please elaborate? Thank you and I am a huge fan of your podcast, blog and tweets. -- Ragerin

Since you said such nice and obviously true things about me, I will elaborate... to the smallest degree (you didn't say I was handsome or hawt or the smartest man on the planet... that kind of flattery would have gotten you more).  Sarah leaves Chuck to do very naughty things.  Chuck is not happy about it.  Sarah is kind of a b-word about it.  Minus the "kind of."  Though, she is also really hawt in her b-wordiness so it all evens out.  It is probably going to be the greatest episode ever.  Though, not for shippers or crazy shippers or blame-Sarah-firsters.

Sarah Walker rediscovers her old self.  Obstacles!

Watch this site for more teaser spoilers related to things in this Dear DR.  I may reveal more.

  1. Wow, you ARE evil.

In before all the crazy shippers go nuts. I, for one, can't wait to see how the storyline pans out.

  2. Yeah?

But seriously thanks for the info. It helps in dealing with the hiatus. Although I'm already kind of dreading the visceral and derogatory comments about Sarah that will surely be flung about.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I do have a question regarding character motivation. Is whatever she does understandable in terms of her character and the context of the situation itself? Like "OMG, I can't believe she did that but I totally understand why she did".

    ReplyDelete
  4. Sue, it depends on your temperament. I think we have always been able to find ways to explain why the characters have done what they have done. But it doesn't always work on the screen even if it can be explained. So, we have to wait to see if it works. If it is understandable.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Ok, I've pretty much always at least understood the characters reasoning in the past so I have hope that I will continue to do so in the future.

    Thanks for answering.

  6. Diane says...

You are a savior in this long hiatus. I'm looking forward to what's going to happen and, in particular, what Sarah is going to do.

I also can't wait to see what the crazy shippers are saying/going to say. It will make the hiatus go faster.

  7. Diane, I am your hero!

I may do another Dear DR in a couple of weeks. I am considering stopping the updating of the spoiler section and just writing those spoilers into future Dear DRs. Not sure if that will be as popular as the spoiler postings, though.

  8. Awesome blog posting dude, I'm so pumped for these upcoming episodes. Doesn't matter a lick to me whether Sarah is being all lovey-dovey or a b-word. The more Yvonne we get, the better.

Bring on season four, act two!

  9. Thank you so much this blog finally convinced me that spending another 14+ hours promoting this show is not worth and it is no longer fun.

Any people good at pulling HD video and posting YouTube videos the job is yours. So much easy to retire when your passion for a show you were once so passionate about is gone. It has taken you 4 years but you finally win and beat this crazy shipper. You and Diane will be really happy.

It's really a sad day when a show you used to be so passionate about doesn't have you excited for what is coming down the pike. Oh well change is inevitable.

Good luck in the future I am
sure you will win the war against Crazy Shippers. You beat me. :-)

  10. Stop it, R. You won't be going anywhere. Plus, you will miss so much good stuff. It will draw you back in.

You can't help it. You are in love with this show!

  11. Awesomesauce. :D

Very promising spoilers. I can´t wait for Chuck´s hero moments or Sarah rediscovering her old self. And I like her being a b-word about it the most. I love unapologetic Sarah. :)

But the most intriguing thing is that blurb about Casey. Could they really be killing him of or write him out in another way !? I have a hard time believing that, but then again you didn´t say that.

I very much prefer this to the asterisks spoilers, because there is at least some context given and I am bad at guessing.

However I am not looking forward to the comments from blame-Sarah-firsters. (Great term by the way. ;))

Thanks for the blog. It needs to be January the 17th now.

  12. Thanks for answering my question - although I hope Chuck will get one of those epic hero moments earlier in the next 4 or 5 episodes rather than later. I am also looking forward to the Chuck WOAH moment coming soon - yeah, I like those and it's been too long since we've had one. Hopefully it's soon since this Dear DR is for episodes 4.11 - 13, right?

I'm really curious about all the Sarah stuff you spilled, but most by the "Sarah Walker rediscovers her old self. Obstacles!" Is this the backstory you said we wouldn't expect?

i do try to pay attention.

  13. These posts are like the last Dear DR! in that they are misleading, magnus has said in his podcasts that he purposely makes things sound worse then they are and people should know that! yet here people are freaking out! all the fans went crazy on a split between chuck and sarah and it never happened how people thought it would. Whatever is written like sarah leaving chuck, that will probably be for like 2 minutes in an episode if that!

To be honest I loved season 3, I thought it was great how they put these characters through the ringer, I would love for sarah to actually pack and leave chuck! it is great character development, I thought it was great how he fought shaw in the only way he knew how, with words. But I know the powers that be do not have the guts to do it, they are too afraid of the crazy fandom who could torpedo their show ala mask..... too bad. The worse part is that not many people understood the characters journey, that is what it is a journey, I am confident it will turn out well......

    ReplyDelete
  14. Someone else came up with the blame-Sarah-first crowd. But I think they called it something else. Anyone remember who it was? It was on this blog but I am way too lazy to go through thousands of comments to find it.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Jake, this is not like the 4.08-4.09 deal. This is more like one of those Beefcake or Fake Name type of things. If you are heavily invested in Chuck and Sarah, then you will probably find issues with it. Some more so than others.

And others, like you, will have no issue with it, or wish they did more of it. Like I said, I am digging it. I was worried the writers were just going to roll over for the extremist element of this fandom. Instead, they show some guts!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Though I am a shipper, I believe it will be nice to see Sarah acting like a b**** for a while. She was a bit too Chuck-dependent in the last episodes and everything needs balance. She can't go from cutthroat Sarah Walker to loving wife so quickly without going to some identity crisis. It sure will be interesting to see that...

...as long as they end up happily ever after by the end of the season. Ok. I said it. Yep. Happily ever after lalalalala.

By the way, thanks Dear DR (not Magnus, nobody is mentioning any names now) for making this Chuck-less days less gray and empty.

    ReplyDelete
  17. If i remember, you didn't like the whole Fake Name scenario yourself. But for me it's not what she is doing, i don't mind Sarah not always being portrayed in super positive light, but what i wish that this time the writers give her proper screentime so we understand her motivations.

That was one of my mayor problems last season, they make Sarah do all this stuff, that for some ppl made her unlikable, but at the same time we didn't get much insight into her character and she got almost no screentime to sell her actions/motivations...which made all this stuff very confusing and sometimes annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think it was inevitable that Chuck and Sarah as a couple would have to face the more unsavory parts of the job. Especially since they had issues in the past with regards to certain aspects of the job.

I could actually see Sarah throwing herself full force into certain situations to prove that she can still do the job that is expected and maybe chaffing a bit if Chuck were to object.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh, they soooo could bring the Cole hotness back. Just some eyecandy for the ladies.

And I am wondering what will be going on with Casey...mistery... Why will it be difficult to focus on him? Will he be captured by Volkoff to be his man servant (just kidding)?

I don't think you are evil, you just look evil with those sharp teeth and gray skin tone. And please do not abandon the *** spoilers.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I never said I would stop watching I respect Zach and Yvonne too much for that but I am falling out of love with the show.

It's just when the show comes back I won't be going out of my way for it.

Someone who is not a crazy shipper can take my place.

    R

    ReplyDelete
  21. I know you love this show, to me, there is no place to hide from this statement though - "This is more like one of those Beefcake or Fake Name type of things" - what you don't get is the lack of joy in those words does not make me quit, it makes the borderline shippers quit - if what you say here is true, they will trickle away - merry xmas

    ReplyDelete
  22. We shall see how you feel about it in a few weeks, R. Remember, you tend to take these things worse upon hearing them than you do when you see them (save for one or two things).

    Sue, right on.

Harku, I didn't like Sarah revealing her name to Shaw. It felt like a misstep by the writers. Especially since the whole moment felt rushed. However, I also felt Fake Name had the ONLY romance moment between Shaw and Sarah that I believed. I actually like Fake Name otherwise and even publicly apologized to Ali Adler for my initial reaction to it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. sarah needs to have a identity crisis? what was season 3 if not an identity crisis! not only for sarah but for chuck as well. I mean sarah just standing there impotently and letting shaw make all the decisions....blow up castle with chuck inside, make him kill someone, ordering her food! going to find the truth about his wife without even considering sarah and her feelings, that was a crisis, she forgot who she was....Our sarah is the the one who stands up to rye when he is being crazy and gives him what for and controls and makes all the decisions for chuck. This is what I am talking about fans not noticing the characters journey! sarah has taken 3 1/2 years to go from cut throat spy to a semi-normal girlfriend who is only now admitting that she is not afraid to go for what she really wants, a life outside of the conning and spying. Now throw in a word like relapse and that is understandable, as they say a leapered never changes it spots, sarah has always had heart and wanted a normal life (crown vic) but for her to slip, now that would be normal and not contrived.....again do TPTB have it in them to go all the way.... I so hope so.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jason, people are always telling me how people will quit after some blog posting of mine or how the ratings will tank and you know what? It has never happened. In fact, following my last two Dear DRs that created a Chuckpocalypseseses, the next episode had a HIGHER rating.

And no, I am not saying that my blog caused the higher rating. I have no way of proving that. However, it didn't have the projected negative effect. Because at the end of the day, the few thousand people who read this site are either not Nielsen viewers or not quitting. I have been hearing people threaten to quit this show over and over... always the same people. They are still around.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Jake, by "go all the way" what do you mean?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am a fan of this show for many reasons! the first is they move the story at a brisk rate and are not afraid to throw everything into an episode and then pull back, it is like a person who tells you what you want to hear and then never follows through, it is good in the short term but sucks in the long term.

That being said I am a fan of chuck being competent, sarah being herself, and I would just love for our characters to go all out doing the opposite of what they should and be the better for it. I want chuck to be able to kill and not just when he needs to but like enter a building on his own and fight his way to the big bad at the top of the building in the penthouse and on the way killing loads of people and being badass, being the classic hero! Sarah the same, she should do whatever it takes to protect what is hers !

Will it make our characters do things that we do not like? yes! does it raise the stakes? yes! would it be all out epic awesomness? yes! do the powers that be have it in them to let our characters fly out of control? sadly no! some people are destined never to leave the buymore ....physically, mentally, emotionally, metaphorically, you name it they won't do it. That is what stops this show from being great, they are afraid to let these characters reach their epic potential!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Jake, you are the only thing preventing the show from being great.... for yourself, by defining its ability to be great by your fan fic version of it.

This show has progressed its characters more than most shows would, in a much shorter time. It doesn't need to make Chuck a killer to be great. This is just not that kind of show. And real field agents can go their entire career without ever firing a shot. So, why can't Chuck be one of those agents?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ok the whole field agent not killing in a career is probably true, but this is tv and so killing is not an issue, in that all it takes it some fake blood packs. Secondly fedak keeps saying he wants chuck to be a hero or as you say a superhero, the cold fact is that as soon as they define him as a hero they raise the stakes that he will have to do more then any average agent would ever have to....what i do not get is what is wrong with chuck killing, I mean it is a double standard to let casey and sarah do all the killing and let chuck keep his hands clean, yet stay on the same level as them. I mean ala james bond. Chuck now has the looks, charm, charisma and looks really great in a suit. Chuck can dance, fight, speak multiple languages, why not kill? there is no reason for him not to, this is why I am in favour of a chuck and sarah split! let him be awesome without worrying what sarah will think! To be honest what I really want is an all out war between chuck and volkoff! guns, bombs, grenades, knives, flash bombs, etc. Will deaths happen, yes, but chuck is trying to free his mom and destroy volkoff so it would be so worth it. To be more honest I just love competent chuck who shot shaw when on that bridge he tried to start a war with him!

I know deep down you are right magnus, chuck will never break free of the buymore and will always be limited in what he can and cannot do because of fan reaction and writers being scared to break chuck free and go on an epic journey, but for a moment it was good to vent on your blog, thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thanks DR. I do enjoy reading your stuff (sometimes ;) ). But seriously I am very excited about the Laptop/PSP story possibly not being finished. I really think there is a lot of meat there to savor over still. I also still believe that Mary and Stephen were in contact over these last 20 years and that he was her link to the outside.
I would call myself a shipper but I am very excited to see the future journey because I'm very confident about the final destination and the more rocky the road, the sweeter the finish.

But don't agree with you about Fake Name, still hate that episode lol.

This is a great season and can really only be improved by getting Carina and Jack Burton back!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jake, it is not a double standard. Sarah and Casey have different methods. Plus, Chuck was willing to kill. He just doesn't want to kill and will do anything to avoid having to kill. So, the show already went there. Chuck is never going to be the guy who kills people needlessly. And in his mind, it takes a LOT for a kill to be necessary. Sarah and Casey (and maybe even Morgan), think their enemies are the disease and they are the cure.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Jason, it is all supposition. We don't know what drives people away. And the viewers the show started with this season are still pretty much the viewers tuning in now... and were tuning in for most of last season. This belief by fans that their discontent is shared on some macro level is, with all due respect, delusional.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think jake it would be awesome but critics such as mo ryan and alan sepinwall love that chuck can defuse bombs by knowing porn viruses and beating games of missile command and basically being a lovable geek/nerd who they can identify with. As soon as you turn chuck into bond, you defeat the whole purpose of the show, that is a normal guy being extrodinary in his own way on his own terms.... that being said an all out war between him and volkoff would be damn good tv and fast paced action at that...

Having said this you do get a sense that when yvonne says things that her dream for sarah would be for her and chuck to run off like mr and mrs smith, that she would like for and chuck to do said awesome things. She maybe joking but as they say in every statement their is always a colonel of truth.....

    ReplyDelete
  33. Also Jake if you want them to make chuck so awesome that he basically can work without sarah, casey and morgan then you are asking the writers to do something very dangerous! Fans seem on the whole seem to love that sarah compliments chuck and works with him not for him. That whatever he lacks in the spy business, she makes up (let me handle the deception) and vice versa. Also fans enjoy that sarah calms and controls chuck and find it adorable and great. So although chuck being super competent would be great tv, it would rub a lot of fans up the wrong way.......

    ReplyDelete
  34. First of all i must say im looking forward to the B-wordiness of Sarah, cause she needs a B-boost, she became a little bit to soft.
Sarah's character was the one that actually gave up the most of her life, so no wonder she needs to rediscover herself.

Secondly obstacles & bumbs in the road, will make the relationship interesting and probably causes some laughs along the way for the viewer (i hope), because it is still a comedy.

But can we still talk about a relationship?
Is Chuck so dissapointed he actually breaks up with Sarah? Must say that would make me wonder about Chuck's sanity, but well after 4.09 he probably suffers from brain damage...
Or is it Sarah breaking up with Chuck, now then the whole 4.09 epsiode was uncalled for...

Hmmm the writers can go so many ways since we almost have a 5th season attached to the 4th season, i am really excited for what they have in store for us.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I doubt they'll be killing off Casey, but it does sound as though he will be sidelined yet again. Maybe the writers agree with me that he's become a useless character. Oh well.

    X

    ReplyDelete
  36. Chuck_a_holic says "Sarah's character was the one that actually gave up the most of her life, so no wonder she needs to rediscover herself." er what did she actually give up? did you see what she was like in season 3 when she was not with chuck? she was just a spy or a person who was subservient to a crappy man (first dad then shaw)! what does she need to rediscover? oh right her old self! so she can go back to being alone and a killer whose only purpose at best is to serve a governmental organisation that kills whether or not it is right or wrong (eve shaw) and she ends up bitter and alone! Have you missed phase three and fear of death! she kicked ass she told chuck off, she stood up for herself and chuck she was very empowered! Also where did magnus say that chuck or sarah will break up with each other, he just said they will or sarah will do something that will upset chuck, realise it was a mistake and atone for it, where is the break up?

Oh and anonymous x if you really think casey is a useless character then maybe you should have the phase three treatment as you are seriously way off base man!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think some of you should go back and re-read what I have written about ten times before posting. That way you won't misrepresent what I have said.

    Thanks. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think that sarah leaves chuck to do naughty things has got fans in a tizzy! first of all chuck has seen sarah shoot a guy at point blank and kiss three guys with his own eyes and yet how long does he stay upset? one episode at the most! no matter what sarah does chuck will forgive her very quickly, why won't certain fans?.........

    ReplyDelete
  39. Sarah is very naughty in that episode. A bad, bad girl.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh and by certain fans, you mean the ones who continue to this day to complain about season 3.0, the ones who missed the whole journey part!

So what if sarah is naughty, even if and I do say if, at worst if she cheats on chuck with another guy, that would make it 2 - 2. Chuck had hannah and jill, she can have shaw and another player to be named later. I knew there was a reason chuck slept with hannah and that was to give sarah a freebie for a later storyline, maybe that story is now muwahaha. Or am I wrong and she slept with bryce when he stayed with her in break up, hum, I forget that would make it 3 -2 in sarah's favour and chuck would have to find another girl to even it up, maybe jessica alba can guest star!

  41. Quote" he wants to spend her life with Chuck and eventually marry him. So with this huge and rather fast progression, is there any chance this will affect her life as a spy in a negative way? -- Oliver

Sarah is going to come to a realization very soon... one that some fans will not like. Correction! One that some fans will RAGE against. Bring on Chuckpocalypse 4! Or... 5. What are we up to now?" /Quote

What realization is Sarah going to come to? You can't be a spy in love, marriage is for suckers, You can't sleep with a Mark and not have your boyfirend think you are cheating on him. I guess sleeping with a mark is not cheating if your ordered to do it. Heh! You say fans will be in rage then expect us to calm down.

I guess Sarah will go from being my favorite character to the Jill B**ch category and that is not a good thing. Chuck forgiving Sarah for any infidelity just means he is more than a wimp than they make him out to be.

I guess if you had to jump the shark might as well be in season 4. Will anyone really buy into a marriage between these two. I sure as hell won't.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Anonymous even when they indicated that sarah slept with shaw, they did it in an implied way, where with chuck they were explicit, they showed them in bed the morning after and with hannah she said you slept with me, it was out and loud told. When are fans going to realise that fedak and swartz will not ever do anything to make sarah less then pure or if they have to they will skirt around very carefully the subject. Also they are very wary not to ruin their characters at worst last season when swartz got the oc/gossip girl/chuck confused they made mistakes with their characters but have said they have learnt. Also they said with papa b he will always be ellie and chucks dad, they would never imply volkoff was, they would never do that, papa b is too awesome, same with chuck and sarah, they will not destroy her character. With regards to chuck being a wimp, no he lets things go, that is what makes him great.... too bad you never get that, you do not really get the show do you........

Welcome to the crazy shipper mentality. Where Sarah has to be an angel in paradise who saved her virgin self for Chuck... OR ELSE SHE IS A WHORE!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm really interested in the reason "Sarah rediscovers her old self". Working on assumptions I'm thinking this will be the episode that compliments Phase Three so I suspect it has something to do with Chuck himself as that is usually her raison detre. Is she somehow protecting him or maybe even pushing him away for his own good? Or is her reason something completely different?

Regarding the naughty thing I know people have been taking it sexually and you very well could mean it that way but I was thinking maybe in terms of brutality. I was thinking maybe her darker side gets amped up as the stakes get raised and the noose tightens, so to speak. Chuck has never been entirely privy to the full malice Sarah seems capable of.

It's possible my boredom has made me think too much on this.

Heh. I don't think you are exaggerating. I'm just more intrigued by what causes the naughty things. Judging by the way they've portrayed
her character and without knowing anything definitive about the upcoming episodes I can only come up with a few scenarios that might fit, and number 1 is she might be doing this for Chuck. Maybe to protect him or something else having to do with him.

  55. Magnus:
I'm not a crazy shipper (or maybe I'm, I don't really care about it) and I wouldn't mind Sarah and Chuck splitting up for a while, or else a cheating scenario. but I'm going crazy for all the thing that people have said and you keep saying she's a very bad girl naughty and all those things and nothing people say seems to be right.

this is what I understand from what you say:

Sarah is a bad girl and nothing people say is the right thing for the nauhty thing so.... Sarah is a Slut and will have sex with every guy around her... That's what your saying right?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Is that what you think I am saying?

  57. OMG do i need to be offended again?

Really can you guys actually imagine a girl being naughty without being a slut, please say you have more brains then that.

Sorry if i come on to strong, but seriously!

  58. I think it is the preconceptions of who sarah was as a person before chuck not the fact that she is a girl... that bothers some fans. As Carina says in wookie you try a guy on and if you do not like him throw him out or kill him, or some words to that affect... it is like a james bond mentality and I personally think that james bond is a dirty sad old man.... but I think fans do not want to see that side of sarah or to be honest a bad side of chuck, there are still some fans who want him with intersect 1.0 who is lovable and stays in the car.......

    ReplyDelete
  59. Imagine if they did a Sarah back-story episode where we find out all her sexy secrets, where she is revealed to have been all the things crazy shippers feared?

DON'T YOU THINK THAT'S TOO MUCH? Like Chuck would say "DON'T FREAK OUT". Everything it's going to be fine. Your are just about to cry. Sarah is not a Slut and even if she have sex with somebody, she will have her reasons... Like Magnus said. She having sex does not make her a Whore.

BTW: Magnus I'm just knowing this page and it's freaking awesome man. Keep up the Good Work.

The only sluts around this fandom are the crazy shipper. They slut themselves to any falsehood that follows their moronic train of thought. They whore themselves to anyone who will back their stupidity. They attack me at every turn with their hyperbole and negativity and do everything in their power to demonize me and for that I am going to pay them back.

I am going to start calling out the individuals who do it and point people their way. So far I have mostly just stuck to calling out a group of them but since they make it personal about me, I am going to do the same about them.

So, SlickNick and Richard are my first targets since apparently they are partners in crime. Who is next? I am making a list. Just post their names. Then I will put together a nice little thing just for them and we can break down their mentality in full. :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. That would actually be quite interesting and now my scenarios are complete rubbish if that is what happens. What could possibly make her revert to form in such a way? Does shame make her push Chuck away? Does she have to reconcile who she was with who she is now?

    ReplyDelete
  64. I am not going to detail what happens but just know that sometimes a girl has to do what a girl has to do. And a boy has to deal with it like a man.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Thanks for answering my question, it confirmed some guesses i've made for upcoming eps.

It is funny how much you can "know" about an episode by just listening and read what you are saying. And I really like this when you watch an episode and it feels like someone already told you what will happens next, but you don't know either why, how or when its coming.

I also like the fact that some say that found "your pattern" in your teasers, which would make it even more funny when/if you decide to reach out to a new group of people:)

Life is beatiful, that not even fair! I was 10 or11 when I saw it and it damaged my really manly feelings...

  71. This is a viscious circle is it not? magnus says something and people react, magnus reacts then they react and it goes insanely crazy and everyone blames sarah! Yet after 4 seasons sarah to our knowledge has only slept with two guys apart from chuck and chuck has only slept with two girls except sarah and in reality that is normal for people who are that good looking like chuck and sarah and me! So where is the beef people? these attitudes from our characters are not unacceptable in any means or form, they are normal. If the character does or says something is it not human to see where the journey goes before reacting to it, and if it does turn nasty and makes them look less then perfect who are we to critize them and deem them anything less then perfect? it is as gary jules would say a mad world........

  73. Life is beautiful is a wonderful movie. Amazing mix of tone (not sure if that is the right word).

I really love all those spoilers. The only thing, that could have made the post more awesome would be more talk about Timothy Dalton. ;)

And I am pretty sure, Chuck will be able to deal with whatever gets thrown at him. Because unlike crazy shippers, he is a kind, trusting and forgiving guy. Which is incidentally what makes him beautiful on the inside and what makes Sarah love him.

So it always baffles me, when people seem to think, he needs to man up by acting horrible and thus force Sarah to beg for him back. As she loves him for not being that way, she logically should just stop loving him, if he acted the way some people want him to. So Sarah wouldn´t need to beg for him back.

I think your comment about crazy shippers wanting to believe, that they could get someone like Sarah, if she could just see the beauty inside, without realizing, that they miss that beauty, was spot on. Otherwise they wouldn´t constantly call for Chuck to stop being that way.

(Hope I didn´t mangle that comment. I am not sure in which post you made it.)

  74. Amrit, the biggest difference between them and me is that I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. Yet they consistently attack my legitimacy, even though anyone with half a brain can see I have been distributing ACCURATE and FACTUAL spoilers since the end of season 2.

Mind you, when ChuckTV posted a spoiler, at the end of season 2, that Ellie would find out (in the finale) that Chuck was a spy, I told Mel directly I had never heard that from my insiders. You know why? BECAUSE IT WASN'T TRUE. When did anyone call ChuckTV out for dishing out false info? How about their spoiler about the "Elders" at the end of SEASON 2. They were wrong about that. None of that stuff was used until season 3.

I called it right. Yet crazy shippers call me a liar because I make them look stupid.

  77. All I meant is that crazy fans first response to something they do not like should not be all out war and character assination, I was pointing to the fact that nothing our characters have done (even at their worst in season 3) was anything to be concerned and angry about because it is a journey. I suppose you know when people have taken it too far when an actor in the series (Zach Levi) has to come out on television and tell fans to calm down it is only tv, that is a sad state of affairs, because some fans must be sucking the fun out of the show for them as well as casual viewers........with all the negative media attention (mask apocolyse) etc......

    ReplyDelete
  78. No doubt. Or when Yvonne has to say that she doesn't appreciate when people involve themselves in her personal life. And that is the EXACT SAME group of people. The crazy shippers are always, always, always the ones who go on the attack when something doesn't go their way, posting threats and tweeting hateful messages.

And they are the ones who stalk every Yvonne video on YouTube and post disparaging messages about her personal choices. It isn't really any other group of people who do it. And they hate me the most because I point them out. Until I came along to do it, they were roaming freely around being douchebags.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Ok I think I already know what a Crazy Shipper is. Read those comments helped me to figure it out.

  80. well I am suprised that the actors even know about personal attacks on youtube or tweets, etc. Well maybe zach because he seems the kind of person like fedak to read all the message boards and youtube videos and all other media (I think he says he reads them at wondercon 2010). But I thought yvonne said she does not use the internet much and only watches project runway....But still I get your point, if some random person critised my life I would be not happy at all, also I would not appreciate photographers, people stalking my home and any invasion of my privacy...... the sad thing is that media outlets also attack personal lives too and there craziness reaches far more people, I was speaking to a sports photographer on my flight to qatar and he said even if a newspaper slurs a famous person with stuff that is made up and get sued they have already made millions of pounds and can afford to be sued, they do not care......it must be harsh being a celebrity......

  85. OK: speculation in long form. Bear with me.

Sarah has been forced to open up more than she would be due to natural developments. For three entire seasons Sarah has been very slowly adjusting away from being a spy first and nothing else. Come season four, things began to accelerate at the beginning. Sarah warned against this. She told Chuck quite clearly that he needed to take it slow, and flipped when Chuck was reading a relationship help book with rings on the cover. However, from 4.06 to 4.09 (4 episodes!) all we have seen are events that have forced Sarah to expose deep emotional ties to Chuck, starting with the Aisle of Terror, through the First Fight, but most importantly Fear of Death and Phase Three. She was ultimately forced to reveal to Chuck that she wants to marry him. But there is a crucial element here: want vs readiness. Chuck is seems to be interpreting Sarah's confession as both, but it will become crystal clear that she really only wants, and is throughly not ready.

Therefore I believe now that we are at a crucial sort of point of inflection, where Sarah will be asked by Chuck, via proposal, to truly put her emotional openness before anything else, including her role as a spy. Sarah will go berzerk with the confusion of two conflicting identities, the needs of the spy world and the needs of Chuck.

As for Chuck coming to terms with Sarah's reaction, that is where I think the writers have huge potential to mess it up. They must stay true to the character of Sarah and make it not look too easy for Chuck to overcome. Within that framework they must have Chuck recognize yet again the extent of Sarah's emotional instability, understand that Sarah was pushed too far, and know that although Sarah does want to marry him, she is nowhere near ready. I have faith, though, that JS and CF really have learned from their mistakes. Although many have interpreted their statement during comic-con as “Chuck and Sarah have a straight, smooth road to marriage bliss”, I believe they really meant that they will consider the bumps in the road they do make much more seriously, and will not, as DR has said, make another critical mistake like adding episodes for a romantic interest even after seeing that said relationship has no chemistry. Hopefully this promise is realized as a clear and understandable resolution to Sarah's newest expression of baseline emotional incompetence.

I also think that JS/CF's semi-admission to botching some of the shaw arc indicates a recognition of not having stayed completely true to the characters, and a promise to do so in the future. And what could be more unlike Sarah than suddenly accelerating toward marriage after 3 years of snail paced emotional development? This current pace needs radical adjustment to stay true to Sarah's character, and DR has indicated that we will see it soon.

    Kevin

wild WILD speculation: Casey death ends her spat of regression. This would be the perfect vehicle for Sarah to realize her own mortality (especially as a spy), the finiteness of her existence, and ultimately the necessity of allowing her role as a spy to forever come second so that she can be with Chuck. Such a development is what could push her to become the woman she needs to be, the one that can love and be loved openly without any part of her past to tell her otherwise.

Furthermore the loss of a common friend that few other understood is what could realistically bring Chuck and Sarah back together, and believably allow Chuck to put Sarah's recent actions behind him.

If I am right about ANY of this, I think we are in for one of the most awesome insights into what runs under the hood of the enigma that is Sarah.

  86. Richard... always the victim. Never the combatant. I feel bad for anyone who buys this act.

  87. Wow, what are people saying about Yvonne's personal life? Sounds creepy.

Anyway, great blog. This season I've felt it would be interesting for them to do a storyline where Sarah and/or Chuck has to seduce someone, but because of Chuck, she's gone soft and is having trouble suceeding. Over 3 seasons, seducing someone has been such a massive part of spying, so I've long felt it's something they've needed to address since making them a couple. How would they deal with their partner having to seduce someone?

Reading these spoilers, Roan being back etc, I'm starting to think that the writers had the same idea. Should be a cool arc hopefully.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Thanks for the spoilers. It's always good for info and entertainment reading some of the comments.

Sarah's story sounds like it should be interesting. Probably not as extreme as some are suggesting. Could Sarah do some things that I might not like? Sure. Alot of times the best character driven storylines can make the viewer feel love, hate and every other emotion towards the character. As DR mentioned in this post, this show has had its characters make so much progression in such a short time. The only show I can think of that made progression like that was a show called Everwood where every season at least one character was angering fans for a few episodes only to come out better in the end.

What's the alternative have characters stagnant like Bones? Or make changes at the flip of a lightswitch like Smallville? Both shows I enjoyed at first however, the former show I only watch if nothing on is better or the latter that I quit midway through the seventh season.

So as long as the why makes sense, I can't wait to see what happens.

Can't wait to see what you have for us next DR.

  98. Diane says...

As I read others talk about the Chuck and Sarah relationship, I am surprised no one acknowledges the context in which it is operating.

    Volkoff.

This is a guy who is so dangerous Chuck's mom left her husband and her kids.

They are going after this guy. If that doesn't put the Chuck & Sarah relationship through some extraordinary challenges on the way to getting the guy (or not), I would be shocked.

This is not a regular relationship. They are spies. That requires them to deal with stuff that normal couples don't have to deal with. And that is what this show is about.

I don't know exactly what that stuff is, but the hints I'm reading indicate it's going to be very interesting.

In case anyone's wondering, I am a shipper. I just like my 'ships to have a good story and to be interesting. Chuck and Sarah are going to be together in the end. It's all about the journey.

I couldn't care less when the proposal is going to be or how it happens. That's the least interesting part of it. Proposals are a dime a dozen.

I want to see how they manage to go after Volkoff when Volkoff so easily can use your loved ones against you.

    ReplyDelete
  99. "It still stands that they are going to have to make the reconciliation believable, or else I, for one, am not going to enjoy it."

The what so the what is what?

    ReplyDelete
  100. Sarah will probably come to the realization that she can't be a cold blooded spy and a "normal" girl at the same time. This could lead her to accept a dangerous mission thus leading to friction between her and Chuck. She ends up doing naughty things (killing, torture, stealing, ect.) to prove to herself that she is still a spy.

I don't think that the issue that has Sarah being bitchy to Chuck will be a seduction mission. She would have to go very cold very quickly to dismiss Chuck's concerns about seducing another guy.

What has me curious is the teaser saying that Chuck is horrified by how easily Sarah seduces her mark. I am guessing that this occurs in seduction impossible but have no way of knowing that. Roan's presence leads me to believe that Chuck will need more tutoring but where does that leave an opportunity for Sarah to freak Chuck out? Maybe the mark is a Lesbian so it is impossible for Chuck to seduce her and Sarah must step up. That would definetly freak Chuck out but it sounds a bit too racy for NBC at 8.

DR. Is there any way that you could give more details about Sarah leaving Chuck for another man? How long will she be gone? How does the other man know Sarah.

    Thanks
    Sam

    ReplyDelete
  101. I think people are really facinated with Volkoff's arc, but I really want some answers to Mama B and her actions. I mean she say's her mission is to take down Volkoff's network, but mission for who? the cia think she is rogue, MI6 was a lie from her, who is she taking down volkoff for? It seems that she has been by his side making volkoff industries stronger not weaker over the years, especially since she helped sell nuclear weapons to costa gravis and the underground weapons pipeline and prisons that she runs....20 years and she does not appear to have taken down his network at all. Then there is the psp and what that actually did to chuck, I wonder what that was all about as well as why she pushed ellie to the car....

The one thing is worrysome is that they have set so many balls in the air that I do not know if they can solve all of them....the one thing that they do have up their sleeve is a chuck and sarah wedding. so if they were to half ass the tie up in an episode where chuck and sarah get married, fans would be on such a shipper high that noone would notice or care....lol. the most likely scenario would be chuck and sarah's limo to back end volkoff and mama b's car at the airport on the way too their honeymoon and they get arrested, lol...... that would be funny.

  104. Snips, you haven't realized, after all this time, that what Sarah said to Cole wasn't the truth? Why do fans always think every word spoken by a character is CANON?!

Sam, I think Mask is a much worse moment for their relationship than any of those.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Thank you, DR for mentioning what Sarah said in Beefcake wasn't the truth. I always took that as one part flirting with the mark (Cole) and kind of a dig at Chuck who had just ended their cover relationship again. However, after that ep, people constantly used that as gospel and saying that Chuck needed to be more aggressive, bad boyish. People seem to forget what Sarah said in Seduction.

On a different note, you mentioned the Baby Awesome, is there anything big storyline in store for Ellie and/or Awesome after the birth?

    ReplyDelete
  106. Kirby, and that is an essential problem with most fandoms. They think every word spoken by a character is immediately logged as part of the show canon and seared into the show bible with melted gold bars.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Ohh Dear DR.
Come on my friend I was kidding. okey it was a bad joke I admit it :)

    ReplyDelete
  108. If chuck were more like cole a bad boy with attitude then why sarah would have left with bryce, cole or shaw? If chuck were a bad boy with attitude then that would force sarah to be subdued like in season 3 and that is just not acceptable, I like my sarah kick ass and an equal partner to chuck, nothing less.......

    ReplyDelete
  109. Jake, please drink less vodka when you come to my blog. Thanks.

Snips, just take it down a notch. :)

    ReplyDelete
  110. Ok Magnus will do....

A question, Phil is coming back to write for chuck, does he really want to do that? I have nothing against him as a writer and think there were a lot of excellent episodes that he did but he did take a lot of personal and professional flack for mask and american hero and to an extent role models, where fans (some crazy) thought that apart from subway his episodes were the weakest of season 3 and why would he come back after that? I still think fans consider mask the worst episode that was ever produced by the chuck people and that responsibility fell squarly on his shoulders since he was the only writer of note on that single episode. So is it wise for him to risk his career again especially since you have put up spoilers of a shipper melt down, god only knows what will happen if he is the unfortunate writer to get that episode in the rotation!

    ReplyDelete
  111. William, how does anyone discount the great episodes he wrote? And I thought while Role Models was a weak episode, that it had my favorite Chuck and Sarah dialogue. So, the only one he really bombed on was Mask. Everyone gets a bad episode.

As for professional flack... he did? Where did you hear that? Or are you counting what some people on a fan forum say about him as professional flack? Because professionals don't. :)

    ReplyDelete
  112. Oh, nothing like some craziness to start the day on a cheery note.

    ReplyDelete
  113. If people really gave it a thought they would realize that seducing someone is not the same as sleeping with someone.
A person can be seduced by using the right looks and glances, if that is not enough, the right words should do it. Seduction is much more about subtlety than action.

I am not ruling out that Sarah would use some action, but that is not necessary.

BTW, I loved "Life is beautiful" too. What about the ending? Chuck's dad is already dead, is he getting a tank? :)
(Or is he going to be reunited with his mom? I know it is to early for such an ark, but since you mentioned the end of the movie...it got me thinking. I would love the tank though).

    ReplyDelete
  114. That movie was awesome and ended on the saddest thing ever while somehow also ending on an uplifting note.

How the heck did that movie do that?!

Season 3 was like that. It ended on a downer but was also uplifting.

I just went with the title for this posting because it made me laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I guess Chuck is not getting a tank then. :(

Nice season 3 ending parallel...it did end in this bittersweet manner.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Every time I watch the ending to season 3 I think about how sick Yvonne was when she shot it. Poor thing. You can see they tried to cover up her sickness with extra makeup.

    ReplyDelete
  117. She was sick? I didn't know your blog back then. What did she have?

    ReplyDelete
  118. I am not sure if I ever talked about it before... I may have. I forget sometimes what I edit out of the blog and podcast. ;)

I don't know what she had but it was bad enough where she felt she might not be able to shoot her scenes. In the end, she was a trooper and finished the shoot.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Oh, poor thing, really.
This show has an amazing and dedicated cast.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Wow, poor Yvonne :(

    ReplyDelete
  121. She had Bronchitis she said it in an interview.

How can your initial proclamation that this will be the greatest season ever and Sarah will show Chuck her love in all kinds of ways to her having issues with him and being a bi**h. Intially you managed to have me so pumped for season 4 now you are saying we are going to have Chuck fan freak out. Now I am wary of what is to come and my excitement for what is to come is tempered. You started a blazing flame pre season 4 and your blog managed to throw a bucket of water on that fire. Now I feel like as a shipper all I have to look forward to is a flame that once was so bright and warm but now is so damp and cold. Sorry for the metaphor but I am currently standing by a warm fire. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  122. I have given this "little thought" actually, but after having watched every episode and dropping in here from time to time...i get where the show is headed...and it should be awesome. Sarah said she doesn't like who she is without chuck. But that doesn't mean she wants to completely give up who she is and what she has accomplished as a spy/cia agent. So I see the rest of the season reconciling how the 2 characters work out their feelings about how they will be as a couple. Sarah will never be a happy house wife with 2 kids and a dog going to PTA meetings. She needs to some degree that personal life and intamacy with chuck, but not the way we picture it based on how we live our life. Chuck and Sarah will be very different. chuck needs to accept that too. so getting from where they are to both accepting how this thing can work will be great. long way to go on both sides of the coin really. Can't wait for the new year!! My guess is...baby episode or actual proposal happening will freak Sarah out and begin the "I need to step back and think this through" process..this should be awesome...hope the writers are up to the task...jedi

    ReplyDelete
  123. UVA, I never said ALL fans will freak out. Just the crazy shippers and blame-Sarah-first types... and some shippers won't be happy but they will be able to deal with it. The rest of fans will likely just consider it part of the flow of the show.

I think many people will love the episode, actually. They might not love some parts of it... but even crazy shippers won't be able to resist falling for some things. But I also think the usual suspects will crap on Sarah.... because that is what they do. They claim to love her but then drag her through the mud the first shot they get.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I just wish people would enjoy Chuck for what it is i.e. great TV on a Monday night
I've read most of the comments here and I think some people looking into these spoilers too deeply (do you think the writers are having these kinds of discussions?)
Whatever will happen with Chuck and Sarah will happen.
Just enjoy it while it lasts, because I know I will miss the show when it's gone.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Kalhoun, all the writers do all day is talk about the characters. But at the end of the day, it is Chris and Josh's show and they decide where it will go. So, their discussions probably sound a lot like our discussions. Except they are creatively brilliant and most fans are just delusional about their creative abilities.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Magnus,
I agree with what you say about the writers discussions being creatively brilliant, as they are trying to push the show in interesting directions (which is always a good thing).

If fan fiction was in charge then Chuck and Sarah would have been married in Season 1 and they would have at least 4 Kids by now :)

I just know that people are going to feel worse if the show gets cancelled especially if the rest of the season is as awesome as what you have been told.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Kalhoun, I have little doubt that many people will miss CHUCK terribly if it ends after this season.

Fans will think it needed one more season.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Magnus,
Sorry I didn't make it clear in my last post. By "people" I actually meant fans of the show.

Your right though that non fans won't care to see it go.

Thanks for providing the spoilers and teasers to make us intrigued for the next episodes. Keep up the good work!

    ReplyDelete
  129. you are describing the upcoming sarah scene(s?) much like you described the fake name episode last season - if it caught you off guard, I can only imagine?

    ReplyDelete
  130. Jason, it surprised me because I thought the writers were going to wussy out this season and not do anything like it. So I did a... double-take, or something. They are really going to do that? I love it!

I hated the Fake Name thing.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Thanks for taking all this time, I know you have very low tolerance for us shippers, but I gotta ask, after the level of commitment to chuck the story portrayed sarah with in 4x9, will the upcoming 'double-take' scene seem consistent?

something as simple as 'you want to marry a spy then deal with it chuck' seems to lessen the effect of you're my home, lets go home, I need chuck, where's chuck, etc, etc, etc?

    ReplyDelete
  132. jason, if you want to find a way to lessen the effect of greatness because something happens that you don't like, then you will find such a way. It won't affect my perspective on 4.09, or any other episode, in any lasting negative way.

As much as I hated the name reveal in Fake Name, it hasn't tainted any other moment in the show for me. But then I am not a drama queen.

And ONCE AGAIN, I don't have any problem with shippers (well, other than the fact that they seem to ignore large portions of the show). My problem is with CRAZY shippers. Maybe I should make it one word so it is more clear. Crazyshippers?

    ReplyDelete
  133. Man I wake up and see that shippers/crazy shippers are still going nuts about sarah and what sarah might do! I posted half a page up about the journey of characters and the fact that it is ok for them to do bad things because that just makes them normal. But here we are, people just skipped past my comment and continue on their crazy merry way! Wow how entertaining...........and a little sad......and a little entertaining....no sad......

    ReplyDelete
  134. In all seriousness Magnus I do no know why they just leave chuck and sarah together happy and fulfilled? My arguement is that they can get away with so much! they can make some plot points contrived, they do not have to give a satisfactory ending to the spy story or plot points or mama b's story or even volkoff's arc. I know they should, but if they do not the majority of people will not mind because chuck and sarah are together. I was speaking to some fellow chuck friends the other day and literally all of them say they are fans are nerd referenes, the spy plot, etc and not really chuck and sarah. Yet when I went to speak to them about some of the stuff I did not like about the buymore and the lieing between chuck and ellie4, they just were happy because chuck and sarah were happy and did not care about anything else, you see where I am going here......this show has never been great with the spy story why do they not just play it safe and keep the consistent 2.0 who only want to see chuck and sarah happy and are more then likeley to get them a 5th season then rock the boat and cause another fan melt down?

    ReplyDelete
  135. Jules, play it safe? These people are creative types. They are artists telling a story. Play it safe? HELL NO! Don't play it safe. Play it UNSAFE. I beg of them.

    ReplyDelete
  136. And risk a fan meltdown again? is the price not too high for a series that flirts with cancellation every season and needs every fan they can dredge up crazy or normal? The sad truth is that people like fedak and swartz can tell sepinwall that they do not give a rats ass what fans think and it is their story to tell but in the end of the day it is the fans who watch, who buy subway sandwiches, who buy every product that sponsors chuck...it is them who will help the show carry on! so why not just take it easy with one element of the show, just one!(chuck and sarah) and throw the rest of it up in the air if they feel they need to be creative. I am not a shipper or a crazy shipper or really into chuck and sarah (since I have a boyfriend and a stable relationship and am under 30) but I do love the nerd references and john casey and want the show to continue, I just say give some crazee's what they want if that helps us survive....because the way nbc is now a 2.0 could very well end up being their best drama or hour long series and could get us a 5th season come end of the season.......

    ReplyDelete
  137. Fan meltdowns are good for a show. They create passion.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Not if we lose viewers... I mean think about it, last season we went from a 3.0 to 1.7 because of shaw and sarah, plain and simple! We lost almost half our key demo because fedak and swartz wanted to dance with the devil..... No show has lost that much of a demo and survived, but we have, why tempt fate again and again? because this is a prediction I can make without even knowing the intricies of television in the US, if we lose half our demo again and go to a 1.0 because of fans losing faith again, we are just not coming back, plain and simple, we are dead, just a thought.....

    ReplyDelete
  139. Also if they had put chuck and sarah together they probably would have a 2.5 and above and cruising right now....fans just lost faith in the show and left when they tuned in and did not see chuck and sarah together. As they say you want to make a deal with the devil be ready to pay the ultimate price!

    ReplyDelete
  140. Jules, there is no evidence that we lost viewers due to Chuck and Sarah not getting together. You are just riding a massive wave of conjecture. Why didn't the ratings shoot through the roof once they were together? And why did the ratings actually increase, with little to no promotion from last season, coming into this season?

Last season, once Chuck and Sarah got together, we started our biggest decline in ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Don't alot of shows lose steam in the spring ratings wise? I just assumed people start outside activites (sports ect.) and with the days being longer just don't sit down and watch like they do during the fall & winter.

    ReplyDelete
  142. I going to sit this one out and wait till what people say. All i can say is that i not to excited for the upcoming episode now. I glad that you are Magnus. But i siting it out. Thank you for the spoilers though

    ReplyDelete
  143. that is not true, thw time we got to tic tac we were at a 1.9! we were on our knees! by the time that chuck and sarah got together a lot of fans just did not give a rats ass because they hated a lot of the first 13 and never felt the payoff was worth the material given.... With regards to why we increased in the beginning of season 4 from end of season 3, well you said it yourself...that if chuck ended after the first 13 you would not care if it came back because it sucked the fun out of it for you, that the back 6 restored some of your faith, and I think maybe fans heard about the back 6 and some came back to check out the state of affairs, but as I said once bitten twice shy.....if fedak wants to be smart do not do this again, the price is too high!

    ReplyDelete
  144. Jules... the episodes are written and shot. Get over it.

    ReplyDelete
  145. I love when you guys pretend you are quitting the show. It is so cute.

Especially when you are quitting the show over supposition.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I never said I was quiting... I just think that if they screw with the crazy fan base...viewers like me will lose out because the show will be cancelled....

    ReplyDelete
  147. Are you done with your temper tantrum now? Because if you can't stop whining, then I must ask you to GET OUT OF MY HOUSE.

    Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  148. No please do not ban me..... I am done...... I thought I was making a reasoned arguement not a tantrum, but yes I am done....thanks for letting me post on your site....

    ReplyDelete
  149. I wasn't going to ban you... but you called Chris Fedak, who appeared at Chuckfest2... so obviously he and I are best friends in the whole wide world, and Josh Schwartz, a guy who follows me on Twitter... so clearly we are bestest buds foreverevers, the dumbest show runners ever.

The dudes who make one of your favorite shows OF ALL TIME and you called them the stupidest show runners ever. My bestest friends in the whole multiverse.

    That hurts me personally.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Will 4.15 Chuck Versus The Cat Squad be an episode where we learn more about Sarah past as spy? Will this episode show her doing things that we haven't seen in the series? Was Sarah a member of the Cat squad?

    Thanks for any answers
    Sam

    ReplyDelete
  151. Also think you Mr Mangus for letting us know. Now the 5 week break not going to be so bad for me. I not really worried about missing out cause i can go back online and watch it or record it on my DVR witch it already set to do. i like to add to that if you think the Chuck and Sarah shippers are bad you should see the Lana and Clark shippers. I was one of those at a time and let me tell you i used to this kind of thing. I don't get upset about it cause their not point in it. I mean their not way that the Sarah and Chuck drama could ever get as bad as Lana and Clark. Man those where bad times and everyone knew in the end they do not end up together in the end.

    ReplyDelete
  152. I know all about the Lana and Clark shippers. But that show is so different from CHUCK. On CHUCK there is only ONE "ship." There aren't multiple factions of different shippers who hate each other. Hell, I wish this show had that. Then they could just kill each other off.

    ReplyDelete
  153. I don't know about that Mr Magnus. I seen Chuck and Jill and Chuck and Hannah shippers and also Sarah and Byrce. I actually kind of liked them together. I even seen Chuck and Morgan shippers. I can actually get on board with that to. Who i would love a Ellie and Sarah relationship. Sorry me mind got nasty their

    ReplyDelete
  154. Please link to me the shipper groups for anyone but Chuck and Sarah.

    ReplyDelete
  155. You want websites. I did not even know their was Chuck and Sarah shipper websites. Is their a Chuck and Sarah one.

    ReplyDelete
  156. A whole 19 episode season of chuck and hannah (zach and kk) ..... dreamy .... like a mcflurry ....... I would definately ship that ..... too bad she is gone ...... something just clicked between them, I do not know what .... but something did and they just hit it off conversationally, intimately, physically, spiritually. That kind of relationship would have raised blood pressures across the world it was that chemistry laden hottness.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Is this a Chuck and Sarah website?

    ReplyDelete
  158. This is not a CHUCK website. This is a blog.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Mike... they missed the boat with Hannah. She should have been Morgan's girlfriend.

Chuck's one true love is actually Jill.

    ReplyDelete
  160. " "It still stands that they are going to have to make the reconciliation believable, or else I, for one, am not going to enjoy it."

The what so the what is what? "

I think what I meant was that because Sarah is going to treat Chuck very badly, the process of rapprochement should not be taken lightly. Reconciliation should be earned with character and ultimately relationship development between the two of them. If Sarah treats Chuck badly, and then they have a cheesy fountain chat and all is better, I won't be particularly happy.

What had me worried is that you originally said that Crazyshippers, "blame-sarah-firsters" AND shippers are likely to be repulsed by this upcoming development. You have always seemed to define the shipper-crazyshipper line at rationality, and that comment made me think: "even rational viewers could be upset?" But you more recently qualified that comment and basically said that onlyshippers could find a way to understand the storyline within the larger universe of the show, finding it within them to understand that arc, however short it may be. SO, all is well

    Kevin

    ReplyDelete
  161. So chuckmemondays is not a Chuck and Sarah fan. Yea but you do have a website right Mr Mangus. This is part of it right? I thought Jill was evil. She was fulcrum wasnt she. Although i love to see Jill come back that be great and I love me some Jordan Brewster

    ReplyDelete
  162. See, Kevin, this is what crazy shippers do ALL THE TIME. They misrepresent what I say and then pass it around as FACT.

I never said shippers would be repulsed. You couldn't possibly quote me saying such a thing. Nor could you even find a sentence where I say "repulse" and "shipper" in the same sentence.

Here IS what I said (since I obviously have to do your research for you):

"It is probably going to be the greatest episode ever. Though, not for shippers or crazy shippers or blame-Sarah-firsters."

So, a great episode for everyone who isn't heavily invested in Chuck and Sarah, or in blaming Sarah for all things that go wrong between them. Where did I say that shippers would be repulsed?

Oh wait. I didn't! So, why do you say I did?

    ReplyDelete
  163. "So chuckmemondays is not a Chuck and Sarah fan."

    When did I say that?

    Are you all mental?

    ReplyDelete
  164. No i didnt say you where not a Sarah and Chuck fan. I was asking if you where.

    ReplyDelete
  165. That was a question? It lacked a question mark, so it was a statement.

Here are three videos I made... you tell me if I am a Chuck and Sarah fan:

Chuck and Sarah - Skinny Love
Chuck and Sarah - Signs of Fear
Chuck and Sarah - The Signal Cloud Lament

    ReplyDelete
  166. wow magnus, its one word. maybe I chose the wrong one.

I guess I should say I am sorry, if it angers you that much

    Kevin

    ReplyDelete
  167. Ok so that cleared up then. But you kind of all over the place man. I just trying to understand where you coming from. So you like Chuck and Sarah but you hate their fans. Am I wrong or right?

    ReplyDelete
  168. I actually like chuck and jill, but the reason I liked Hannah more was because unlike jill, she would never have hurt chuck like jill did. Lou was good too, but there is something about kk that just gets the pulse racing, as I said I do not know what it is, but something classy and untouched about her that is .......pure..... dreamy.....the kisses between her and chuck were very intimate and loverley and as I said it would have been a great 19 episode romance.....and as for her and morgan, kk is wayyyyy toooooo attractive for jg, it would not have worked.....

    ReplyDelete
  169. It is amazing how some of you think... god help us all.

Kevin, it is not ONE word. You insinuate that I said shippers will feel the same way about the episode as crazy shippers. I didn't say that. All I said was that those three groups I mentioned probably won't think the episode great.

Anonymous dippy, what is your glitch? I don't hate Chuck and Sarah fans. I would the have to hate a majority of the fandom. I have a strong dislike for CRAZY shippers. That is a group of shippers who seem to lack enough intelligence to comprehend the simplest concepts, and who run around threatening to quit the show if anything goes wrong with Chuck and Sarah, and who send threatening messages to people who work on the show (specifically producers/writers if they can find them) when they don't get their way.

  170. Anti-Crazy Shipper JohnDecember 18, 2010 at 6:24 PM

I am guessing he does not hate their fans, just the ones who attack the actors personal lives, the fans who messaged Ali Adler and were out and out rude, the ones that write derogatory remarks about youtube videos of the characters and other websites comment sections that go over the line and keep on attacking their personal choices.....those fans....

    ReplyDelete
  171. Mike, Jill saved Chuck's life. Hannah was saved by Chuck. I think Jill wins. :)

But man... Hannah... wow... soooo purty.

    ReplyDelete
  172. John, how DARE YOU pay attention to words I say and then be able to intelligently type out a coherent explanation of what I think without using hyperbole or erroneous information?

    I am deeply offended!

    ReplyDelete
  173. Your kidding me people actually do that stuff. That messed up. That reminds of the time when Firefly got canceled Fox got so many Death threats it crazy and stupid. No ones life is worth a TV show. I see why you give them a hard time.

    ReplyDelete
  174. I know you cant give any info or tell us what going to happen but can you tell us what episode all this will go down or you cant do that either or is it over a stretch of episodes

    ReplyDelete
  175. Well, I CAN do whatever I want. I CHOOSE not to.

But I will be revealing more over the coming days and weeks. I have more spoilers to tease. Maybe even bigger ones.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Wait, people actually send threatening messages to the people who work on the show? Really? That's just scary.

    ReplyDelete
  177. With all this chuck and sarah concentration people are forgetting about the beard! Magnus any news on the development of our little buddy? how is his relationship with Alex? will him and casey continue to be comedic gold? will he still demonstrate the qualities that make him best friends with chuck and that all people wish they had in a best friend? so much love for the little bearded one!

    ReplyDelete
  178. ok, I see. It was unclear to me what you meant the first time around and I took the liberty of inferring what turned out to be incorrect. Sorry about that, and it all makes sense to me now.

  179. With regard to the Sarah/Chuck spoilers in this post,

    1. Are they through ep 13, or beyond?
    2. Have they always been there, or are they referring to changes made after the back 11 order?

    Thanks for the spoilers!

  180. I think the best thing this season with chuck and sarah is that no matter how much of a super hero chuck becomes, how better looking he gets from season to season, how many awesome suits they put him in, how many intersect versions he gets, how many times he saves the day....when it comes down to it sarah is in control of their ultimate destiny and the show is better for it! Sarah being assertive and ass kicking is great for the show, you take season 3 where she was with shaw and she just let him make all these decisions : I am going to blow up castle with chuck and morgan inside, you have to make chuck do his red test, I will order your foodand fine wine, I am going to sacrifice myself and you just have to accept that it how it is ...she just stood there each time impotently accepting it and that is not the sarah we all love, not by a long shot, and so you see the journey from that point onto honeymooners she speaks up and says I want a home in Burbank with you and your family, to going to the Dr in tooth, to snatching papa b's wallet, to telling chuck in anniversary that he should have told her about his search for his mom to fear of death and phase three where she is unwilling to let chuck get himself killed....having sarah refuse to let anyone even agent rye or general beckman tell her to let things play out and stand up for what is hers - being her chuck - this really has made her journey all the more enjoyable.

I know some fans will say that she can be too much into chuck's business and should at times let him just make these decisions and be the hero but I am reminded of an everybody loves raymond episode (when robert leaves amy on ray's ranting) and he say's this about marriage/relationships "you go to sleep she is there, eat she is there, wake up ...there and I know it sounds like a bad thing...but it is not, not if it is the right person" and one thing we know from this show, sarah is the right person for chuck, that we do know.......no matter what sarah does and how naughty it is do not worry, it will be ok......

    ReplyDelete
  181. Oh I forgot Raymond also said that sometimes when you are asleep you can stop breathing and she is there to nudge you back to life....see there...chuck will always have sarah to nudge him back to life if he stops breathing....lol

    ReplyDelete
  182. Chuck needs to wear more suits instead of his casual clothes and that buymore rag because girls will go and girls will come but there's only one absolute, every bro on the go needs to know that there is no accepted substitute for a suit.... chuck man suit up and sarah will not try and seduce another man, word! you know what you have to do bro....where a suit and she will be putty in your hand!

    ReplyDelete

  185. I wish the crazyshippers would rant on youtube, like that Britney guy. Putting a face on craziness is always a treat!

    ReplyDelete
  186. I support a crazyshipper rant. Some 38 year old bald guy with a baby crying in the background and his wife screaming that she made a mistake ever marrying him.

    ReplyDelete
  187. I've been hoping Sarah's past involvement with Graham gets some screen time along with YS getting to do more psycho Sarah. Mainly because Chuck hasn't seen that side of her and I want to see how he handles it. Is there the remotest chance of getting something in that general ballpark? Or does it come off a bit more random, like the crazy switch has gone off?

    ReplyDelete
  188. Nah Kevin, I don't care about chuck and sarah, I was joking about him wearing better clothes would help him get more girls. 194. Snips, there are certain words that are not kids friendly and I won't let them be posted here. We are surfing a close line by saying bitch, slut, and whore... but the p-word is a bit much for me.

I know kids hear all kinds of things and blah blah blah. And I know violence is worse for kids than the words they hear. And yet these are the rules and everyone follows them. So, just use different words.

Oh and while I am at it (this is not just specific to you, Snips) I should add this rule... if you attack anyone working on the show, I will first attack you, then start dumping your comments in the spam box, and then outright ban you.

It is fine to criticize the creative people on the show for specific episodes or for things they do that annoy you. But calling them dumb, stupid, idiots, or talentless and the like, will not be tolerated. Some of the people who work on this show are my friends and I like them a hell of a lot more than I give a pooh about your right to complain.

This is not a democracy. This is my blog.

  195. I think after all my comments , it is clear now, I have a Blind spot about Chuck as a caracter. I know I have unrealistic expectations about him.

But first , I'm a guy, and Yvonne in her underwear is always hot well Yvonne is always hot so :). But One thing is probaly will bothering me , This probaly going to be much much more Hotter scene, than what we got, between Chuck and Sarah, in the last two season XD. Now seriously. In my book It is all depends on Chuck!. How he will act, and deal with this,. Please do not make him again that guy how was in the Beefcake. My only problem with the episode is not the Cole and Sarah. More like how was treated Chuck. This was Chuck weakest apisode as a Carachter like ever, and may be his best episode was the Fake Name. But of course because I don't know anything about the Context or what and how will happens, I do not know what I would love to see from Chuck

    And second,
if there will be any consequence of Sarah's behavior?!. I mean, personally I'm not the "blame Sarah first", type person. But at the same time, I don't like, when the people see Her as some perfect woman who never make, mistakes, and actualy she never get some slap in her face, because of her behavior and act. and Its just not realistic, that she actualy never do anything wrong and she never need to face it. And I'm not talk about, "oh my god, I lose Chuck because he gets kidnaped, and may be he is dead " and other Death - life situation, when she realized that she not tell to Chuck this and this and blah blah blah . :) let be honest, like Chuck need all the time. and some times, of course he make himself situations. But i think you al probaly know what I mean. and BTW at the same times, its not fair those people who actually blame just one part of the relationship. There is people how always blame Sarah, and others who always blame Chuck. But as I said, let bring it, let do it, just give me some Balance. 
Thanks you for your patience DR.
