CHUCK 4.24: the Cliffhanger - Reactions

The season 4 finale was epic, for sure... lots of game changers in one episode.  So what did you think of it all?  From the ******* to the ********* and then of course the cliffhanger where **************.

Tell us!  And rate the episode from 0 to 100.

  1. Did anyone see the new fall schedule preview? let's just say they basically show you the cliffhanger/twist. and it is interesting. some people will love it some people will hate it.

  2. I'm sure glad I got to see this wonderful finale before the world ends on Saturday.
And damnit, think of all those wasted Subway sandwiches I ate just to get a season 5.
Do you know if WB shows reruns in the afterlife?

  3. GM15, you always come to this site as if you haven't read ANYTHING said anywhere on it. We have been talking about it in the other article threads. It is quiet idiotic of NBC to just spoil the cliffhanger like that the DAY OF the episode.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Camping, SPOILER! I am sorry to tell you that the world will not end on Saturday. It will not even end in 2012. Just like how people lie to you that CHUCK fans have saved the show, or that wasting your time tweeting to advertisers will get you more seasons, there is no **********.

  5. Magnus - I don't want to get into the spoiler obviously but can you comment on the names posted under producers? Ali and miller. If you can't I understand

  6. HT, I don't know anything about it.... for now.

  7. I'm going to predict an episode worthy of a 92/100

Will return post airing to see if I was correct.

  8. NBC has done idiotic things like that before so it's nothing new.

I must say that Magnus has done a terrific job of getting me even more excited for the finale and the cliffhanger.
Magnus should be in charge of promoting Chuck for NBC.

I can't wait to find out tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I agree... I should be... which is exactly why I won't be.

    ReplyDelete
  10. "Direct from #Chuck EP CFedak: "For fans, Act4 of tonight's S4 finale will be difficult. I want to plead w/ them to stick with us into Act5." "

    interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Dear Chris, no one knows what act 4 or act 5 means. So, no worries. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  12. After coming across that major spoiler for the finale, I sincerely hope the writers come to their senses and undo it. Are they so lacking in imagination that this is the best they could come up with?

    ReplyDelete
  13. well, what I think he means is:

like most plays have 5 acts, towards the end of this last episode (act4) things will be looking pretty bleak (like the wedding falls apart), but he doesn't want us to change the channel and not finish the episode (act 5, the cliffhanger)

I think he knows fans are expecting the perfect white wedding, and he wants us to know that that is not going to happen, and when they don't get married we shouldn't be angry.

    ReplyDelete
  14. all in all it seems like this could be a thoroughly annoying episode. at least Magnus said it would be emotionally satisfying, i hope that is still true.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Darn I was spoilered. I don't mind though because the cliffhanger? It's a zero. Magnus was right.

It's like it's something awful or anything like that...it's just...lame.

    - Jess

    ReplyDelete
  16. Sorry I meant "it's NOT like it's something awful or anything like that...".

    - Jess

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yeah... now people understand. My zero wasn't for being terrible, just for being... well... in the episode at all.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I totally understand now Magnus.

I have faith in the writers, so I won't totally pass judgement until I see what next season brings and with them knowing it's the last season, I expect them to plan things better but for now I rate th cliff hanger a zero like you.

    - Jess

  19. Why am I not surprised that Chris Fedak's description of the episode as "epic" is utter crap.

    Lucia

    ReplyDelete
  20. The episode IS epic. Tons of stuff happens in it. Plus, you should see the episode before deciding it is utter crap.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I didn't say the episode was utter crap, but that Fedak's description of it as epic is utter crap. His idea of what constitutes epic storytelling must differ from mine. The lame cliffhanger, plus a couple of other plot details that have been leaked, don't exactly have me on pins and needles.

  22. Tell it to me when you see the episode.

    ReplyDelete
  23. It's funny how posts and general feelings from others can alter your mood going into watching an episode. I already feel skeptical/off about what happens in season finale and I haven't even watched it yet nor really know what happens.

Still got 3 hours or so until I can see it here, looking forward to more Chuck either way ^^

    ReplyDelete
  24. NO ONE HAS SEEN IT. Even the worst sounding ideas on paper can be awesome in an episode.

    ReplyDelete
  25. ah they haven't? I'm from Aus so I don't know what time the show is actually put on over in US..just comments from people around the place you'd swear they have seen it.

    My mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Statica, just because the cliff hanger for me sounds lame doesn't mean I expect the episode to be ;) I'm still excited and think the episode can be epic. My views on the cliff hanger doesn't affect that.

    - Jess

    ReplyDelete
  27. Call the Russians, indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Think its a real slow show tonight. Agree its a 0

    ReplyDelete
  29. Also Statica, nice to see a fellow Aussie Chuck fan :)

My last post since until I see the ep, look forward to coming back on the site to read everyone’s opinions once I’ve watched.

  30. Ok, as a series finale, I would have been pissed. I'm hoping things are...rectified in the final episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  31. So after watching it.

How i feel about morgan being intersected will depend entirely upon how they execute it in season 5.

I love that theyre going into the spy business for themselves now though.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I said the cliffhanger was a zero, not the episode.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Great episode until the glasses went on. Hate that twist.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Is it bad that I find it disappointing that Morgan has the Intersect in his head? I'm bored line angry about it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I loved tonights episode It's going to be a blast w/ Morgan as The Intersect. I hope Josh does his own stunts.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Chuck was the intersect for a reason, because his mind is able to properly absorb the information. Morgan? I can stomach Chuck without it if I have to, but that?

    ReplyDelete
  37. -Chuck and Sarah got married
-Morgan is the new intersect (ugh!)
-Volkoff isn't a bad guy anymore

I'm sorry, but that's not an epic episode. The group will still be doing spy work even though they won't be working for the government. The Buy More remains, Jeff and Lester aren't dead, and Morgan is already back to being the obnoxious a--hole he was for the first two seasons. I'm sorry, but I was unimpressed.

    Lucia

    ReplyDelete
  38. And that is why I gave it a zero... because not only is Morgan becoming the Intersect lazy writing, but to re-use the EXACT SAME LINE from the season 2 cliffhanger... AND... a line you ALREADY REVISITED THIS SEASON.

Otherwise, I enjoyed the episode. Will watch it a few times before making a final decision on it. But man, thankfully we get another season because that finale was only satisfying on a Chuck and Sarah level for me.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I really liked the episode. I'd put the ending into two pieces. First, I love the idea of free lance spies. Who wouldn't want millions of dollars to fund your own private crime fighting team. Fantastic. I'm ok with Morgan getting the intersect, I think that's going to generate some laughs and I am a fan of most any decision that gets Morgan more airtime. I say that with the caveat that Chuck should get the intersect back within the first episode or two next season. I the entire 5th season is just Morgan with the intersect I'd give it a fail.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Morgan doesn't seem to fit the role...

    ReplyDelete
  41. I feel like I should really hate the direction they went for the 'cliffhanger' (which wasn't really a cliffhanger at all), but I just have this stupid smile. Idiot.

I'm more concerned about the main structure of the show and where they go from episode-to-episode next season. Time will tell if it works. If Chuck gets the intersect back, things should be a bit better. I'm not comfortable with the idea of Chuck suddenly being able to cope as an agent when he's been such a wuss in a lot of instances - although really he should be capable without the intersect by now.

The episode was fun, but had it been the season finale it could have been nasty.

    93/100.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I thought the general idea was they were going to be arrested, hence the need for new identities. But we jumped straight into wedding from the deathbed. I had a hard enough time with the others becoming part of the inner circle, I can't see this as anything other than ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Obviously the cliffhanger they needed to emphasize was Chuck's life being all a plan. THAT is MUCH more interesting than Morgan becoming an Intersect. Because... well, he's not Chuck. I don't even! And how exactly does he know that he knows kung fu? Oh, brother!

But seriously, that "all a plan" thing!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Wow didn't expect that ending! Gotta say I loved it! Morgan being the new intersect is gonna be so cool, hope he and Chuck can become something like an intersect duo during season 5!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I love CHUCK since the beginning, and the episode was fairly good, but the cliffhanger left me speechless, and not in the good way!, I mean...really? this has been done in almost every finale and now they involve *****n? I just have to say im dissapointed and it sucks for a show that has such potential. And this is hard to say, because im a huge fan.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I like Adam's caveat. I'm just rather miffed that this episode would have sufficed as a series finale.

    ReplyDelete
  47. He didn't even show that he knows kung-fu!

You have to show and tell. I think Morgan's lying. The Intersect didn't register with Morgan, and he was just playing a joke on his pals.

He, he, ha, ha. See you in the fall.

    ReplyDelete
  48. It sounds from Fedak's post-mortem they're planning on keeping him as the intersect, so...I get the concept, but...no.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I can see why people are angry but unless you know how season 5 is going to be and what they are going to do with morgan you can't really hate the cliffhanger in my opinion.

Anyways I loved the magnet with awesome and morgan and when they did it near the end. I loved the spy stuff from the beginning to the end even when morgan put on the classes and made reference to season 2 end when chuck said the same thing. So in the end I give it a 95/100 and the only reason it's not 100/100 is because of tiny things that could have been fixed if they had more money.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Maybe I will warm to it in the next season, but so far, I hate the "cliffhanger". I´ve never been a fan of Morgan being too much integrated into the spy stuff anyway.

And what I did like was that his lack of fear despite any talents. And that´s gone now. :( They could have at least made that a 1.0 version.

I loved the flashback to Chuck and Sarah´s dry run and the church wedding was really beautiful, but the rest wasn´t really my cup of tea.

Sarah was hardly in the episode, which was expected, but still not fun. I loved Chuck having his own version of Phase Three, though. And I liked that he was just out of plans at one point.

But I really enjoyed Team Bartowski working for the CIA. :(

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sure, I can see how someone could be disappointed with the Morgan twist, but for something that you would give a 0, I would expect it to have absolutely no potential. I imagine that one worry about Morgan with the intersect is that he would become less funny (one of the best things about Chuck), but I don't think that will happen. I can see anger about using the same line over and over, but it does have some merit with just the absurdity of Morgan actually KNOWING kung fu.

Sure, it's a lot of change to take, but it has potential. Besides that, absolutely amazing, the shippers must love this episode, so much good Chuck/Sarah stuff. Particularly during the wedding, Schwartz's music taste was awesome again with some Sigur Ros. I'm curious to see what becomes of the whole 'big plan' storyline that the agent was mentioning.

    -Kevin

    ReplyDelete
  52. I guess that is why I don't check with you for my opinions, Kevin.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Enjoyed the episode didn't like the fact they gave Morgan the intersect kinda hope they give chuck a intersect also!

    ReplyDelete
  54. is chuck also an intersect or is it just morgan.. i only saw part of the finale.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I didn't mind the 'twist' at the end. (I hadn't been spoiled earlier, by the way. Was napping)

But yeah. I could see how this could turn out to be some fun stuff next season. Casey, Chuck, and Sarah.. training Morgan how to not fail and be only the magnet? Could make for some comedy gold. That and him calling Sarah "Mrs. B" made me smile so big.

This was a fun episode, though!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I would have given the episode a 150 but then i saw the end... The wedding was amazing, it was short sweet and perfect. I loved how Chuck refused to give some vows and how he was willing to do anything to save Sarah. I enjoyed seeing the good side of Vokoff or should i say Hartly. Then came the cliffhanger. WHY THE HECK WOULD THE PRODUCERS GIVE MORGAN THE INTERSECT????? the show is not going to be the same. and honestly i don't think i will enjoy it as much. The show is not called Morgan: the bearded wonder, the show is called CHUCK. and Chuck is what the show revolves around. How is it going to revolve around Chuck when the thing that made Chuck special is now in Morgan. I will now give the episode about a 75... its average but not amazing...the ending gave it away... sorry but this is the truth in my opinion. dont hate!

    Saday

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm just not sure what inspired them to go in that direction. How hard would it have been to have Chuck put the glasses on and re-intersect?

Next season we could have had Chuck the Intersect and his merry band of freedom fighters and it would have been fine.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I admit it... I squee'd a little on the inside when Morgan called Sarah "Mrs. B."

    ReplyDelete
  59. BANGISiridescent97May 16, 2011 at 9:18 PM

I thought that leaving Morgan with the Intersect was stupid, AT FIRST. Then I thought of all the comedy/ drama/ tragedy will happen next season because he does!! Imagine he's eating dinner, does a front flip onto the table. What happens with his relationship with Alex? What happens to Chuck? Is he Jealous? capital J? What happens to Sarah because of what happens to Chuck? How will this wacky A-Team set up end up? Will Chuck become his father and make an Intersect for himself, because he believes he needs one? Will there be a baby CHUCK!? Will there be a major plot center point as big as this in the next season? Can Chuck be a spy without the Intersect? Will he make his own Inventions? Will NBC get it's head out of it's, erhm, hands and keep the godsend show Chuck around longer? WILL THE SO MANY RUSSIANS COME BACK??!! All this and more will HOPEFULLY be answered in S5 (and please God more seasons to come.) They never said it wasn't possible that NBC would not make S5 Chuck's final season, and allow it to have a 6th. I loved it, and I love Chuck and IF Chuck does end, then can it be syndicated?

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think they use the intersect too much.

I didn't like Timothy Dalton being an intersect either because it has been done to death and he's not a bad guy anymore.

I think they will play Morgan and the intersect for more comedy next season.

What I would do is have Morgan not being able to handle the intersect and they remove it from his mind early on in season 5.

As an episode it was okay but not one of the best of the season or series.

I also rate the cliffhanger a zero as it depends on where they go from here.

    ReplyDelete
  61. "The episode was fun, but had it been the season finale it could have been nasty"

Sorry, that should read SERIES. Damn being British and getting confused with those terms.

Also, forgot to add: I sympathise with the zero (but I don't necessarily agree entirely).

    ReplyDelete
  62. Was Decker's comment at the end of the episode about Chuck getting the Intersect, his father dying, etc. all being part of the plan an important comment?

    ReplyDelete
  63. I wonder with Chuck if the intersect can ever truly be removed. If anybody could get it back in there, Ellie could. Maybe it's just wishful thinking. Chuck may be able to be a good spy without it, but it wouldn't be the same.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I didn't like that the CIA were bad guys in this episode.

I like that Chuck is now the new Orion and going into business for himself. I like that Chuck and Sarah got married. I love that Chuck and Sarah both survived.

I HATED that Chuck was called a traitor by Decker. He was only trying to save Sarah and fix the mess that his parents and the CIA made. Chuck wasn't being a traitor to his country.
I HATED Decker and his trying to put an end to team Bartowski.
And I HATED that Chuck lost the Intersect yet again, but at least he can always find or make another copy and download it again.
As for Morgan being an Intersect...we'll see how it turns out. I'm on the fence about it and I'm reserving my judgement about it.
Besides, the writers wrote the episode not knowing whether the episode would be the series finale or not. They were only baiting the network by putting a cliffhanger in the episode, so the network might consider renewing it.

    ReplyDelete
  65. "I know kung-fu!"

Prove it. Don't just lie there. Jeez.

    83/100.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Yes, that big conspiracy talk at the end is supposed to be important... which means they will abandon its importance in season 5. Chuck had the Intersect suppressed, not removed... so there is the obvious potential of him getting it back. And I have been saying for weeks that my rating of ZERO for the cliffhanger was related to concept over execution or the future. I think it demonstrates weak writing.

But could it be fun next season? Sure. But then again, you can only sustain the fun of Morgan's newness with the Intersect for so long, eventually you have to do something else with it, and probably very quickly. And that is where this might all go downhill... or uphill.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Hi Magnus, I loved the episode. I just wanted to know if the show's changing its name to "Morgan" now that he is the one who knows kung-fu.
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  68. LOL! Melwicker, after all this time of telling you how the networks work, you STILL think that the network renews shows based on how the season ended? Why would NBC care? They cancel shows ALL THE TIME with bigger cliffhangers and zero resolution.

No, that is not why they renewed it. And the network couldn't have possibly cared less about how it ended when they were thinking about renewing the show.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I liked the episode. I just didnt like the fact that Yvonne was comatoast for 80% of it. But I am really happy that wasnt the series finale. As for the cliffhanger, meh. But like Magnus always says it is in the execution. Bring on the final season.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Oh... I forgot to mention, I LOVED Casey taking out the CIA agents. That was probably my favorite part.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Decker laughed when Chuck said his father was dead.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Going into tonights Ep. I didn't think Chuck and Sarah were actually going to get married, I was pleasantly surprised to see that storyline get executed and we wont have to deal with the will they wont they again next season.
I think the set up for S5 was really good- with the exception of that last minute- I dont know, it wasn't all I hoped it would be.
Should be interesting to see where they take this...
Id give the episode as a whole a 93.
    -Shannon

    ReplyDelete
  73. I don't know. I liked most of it. The Vivian character has been a big waste of time, though. The end of that storyline felt like a copout.

The Chuck/Sarah stuff was pretty sweet and I loved her vows and his non-vows.

Morgan as the intersect...it feels wrong to me. It undercuts the whole show and I usually don't even pay attention to the mythology.

This whole "plan" business isn't even exciting to me right now. Given the slapped together feeling the writing had during most of what was supposed to have been planned all along and what just happened on my television screen. I have very little doubt they are writing a check their butts can't cash.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Chris - I was pretty curious about that, too. Either Decker's the biggest **** on the planet, or...we'll see, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  75. "In real life, you just make a fist and hit him as hard as you can!" -- Captain Awesome being awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I didn't say that I thought that the network cancels shows based on how they might end.

I said that when the writers wrote the episode, THEY thought of writing that cliffhanger in the episode to bait the networks into renewing the show. I distinctly remember reading an article online about why the episode had "Cliffhanger" in the title.

    ReplyDelete
  77. They know the network can't be baited by such tactics. If they say that is why they did it, they are just saying it because gullible people will believe it.

    ReplyDelete
  78. The network didn't care about how the show would end. They only cared about potential syndication profits.

    ReplyDelete
  79. OK Magnus I thought I guessed for myself why you put down a 0 ... well I was wrong good thing I didn't state it publicly! ;D

Well first of I LIKED THE EP. - with the ending thing I just have to sleep on it first though I get why you put down a 0 for the Cliffhanger itself ... I think that with the knowlegde of a S5 coming it's not so bad but thinking about that that cloud have been the end END I wouldn't have liked the it to much quite frankly. Again I have to sleep on it again and watch it a few times to make up my mind.

What concerns me a lil bit what this "gamechanger" will mean for S5 is mostly something Fedak said in an interview with TVLINE: "...Season 5,... wasn’t exactly designed to be the final season, ..."

Oh well I will go now to sleep on it! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  80. The writers were also baiting the fans, too.

    ReplyDelete
  81. No, melwicker, they are ONLY baiting the fans.

    ReplyDelete
  82. You guys seem to now like the cliff hanger but I thought that it worked as both a potential series finale and ultimately season finale. It was a fun way to end the season. I went into this episode (having not read any spoilers) absolutely thinking that they were going to kill someone off or at least put us in some type of suspense that someone may die (that was one sick funeral joke :P ) so I was really happy when they ended it on a fun and exciting note.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Sorry if my comment seemed rude...didn't mean for it to be. I guess I just don't feel as down on the cliffhanger. Chuck is a show that is so great because it doesn't take itself too seriously and is just generally fun, and I think Morgan as the intersect will be fun. The finale built up the idea that Chuck didn't need the intersect, that he had progressed past the reliance on it to be an effective spy on his own.

    -Kevin

    ReplyDelete
  84. @Torgee

    series finale ... Nope.

season finale ... Meh ... I guess, though ... Meh.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Kevin, I didn't rate the episode. I rated the cliffhanger... which is a zero and will remain a zero for all time... because they reused a device and a piece of dialogue not for the second time but the third... and twice in the same season.

    That is lame and lazy.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Did I miss the explanation of why Morgan was the minister?

    ReplyDelete
  87. I really like the idea of them working together outside the CIA. With as many times as they've defied the CIA, it's an easy transition to make it official. It's also a really nice way to get Ellie and Awesome involved.

Morgan as the Intersect...I'm still not sure about that. Maybe they can wrap that up in one or two episodes, and then Chuck can get the Intersect back.

    ReplyDelete
  88. @DorkaliciousD what kind of finale do you want?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Apparently he is one. What explanation do you need? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  90. I can agree with that from the dialogue standpoint, I guess I just put too much weight on your rating since that was all I saw about the cliffhanger.

Just curious, if they had used a different line of dialogue and still gave Morgan the intersect, would you have given it a 0?

    -Kevin

    ReplyDelete
  91. Kevin, nope. It would have gotten a 5. And I am surprised only one person in the past month noticed something about my answer. Someone asked me to rate it from 1 to 10... which is why I gave it a zero. I didn't rate it.

And the only person who noticed it also pegged why I gave it a zero. So congrats to you.

    ReplyDelete
  92. You are right, apparently Morgan is now all things.:)

    ReplyDelete
  93. Next season, Morgan is the Intersect, a minister, the Buy More manager, and the father of Casey's grandchild?

    ReplyDelete
  94. In California people can be ministers for the day. Do not ask me how, but it is possible. I liked the episode, but I am with everyone else that thinks the cliffhanger was lame. I think the Decker speech was off...it just does not track with what we know about the CHUCK mythology. I did love the wedding and everything with Sarah. I liked Chuck's speech, although I would have loved him to also say that Sarah is the love of his life and she makes him a better man (which lets face it is true). Overall I would give this a 90. I take a chunk out for the cliffhanger and the Decker speech.

    ReplyDelete
  95. The reason that the latest renewal of Chuck is only because of the potential syndication rights makes me think of what David Gerrold said about syndication in his book about the making of "the Trouble with Tribbles" episode of Star Trek.

David Gerrold called syndication the "joker in the deck" of the television industry. He says in his book that a syndicated series really isn't profitable enough unless it has FIVE YEARS worth of episodes. But eighty episodes would have been enough for a show like Star Trek. This was in the Sixties, though.

There really isn't a magic number for syndication, but, according to David Gerrold, you really need more than just one or two seasons to have it possibly be profitable. That's almost as true today as when Star Trek was filmed.

So a series that that has five seasons and has been on the air as long as Chuck has is really a good candidate for syndication whether or not it reaches the 100 episode milestone. When Chuck finishes it's 5th season it will be a good choice for syndication.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Well Magnus in the interview with Fedak it seemed that that Morgan indeed downloaded the intersect but quite frankly I'm not sure that this works for my logic ... the intersect has always been this big thing - the glasses on the other hand have always been simple updates or in Manushs (or whatever his name was) case skills for a short period of time.
Also The "bad" dude said to Chuck he would suppress the intersect so its still there in his head right? And since the glasses were actually addressed for Chuck I thought this was to unlock the intersect ... dame I just confused myself! ;)

  99. @Torgee I really have to sleep on it I haven't made up my mind though I felt kinda uncomfortable with the cliffhanger but I'm kinda ok with it since its not the end END! Thats just how I feel about it its very subjective perhaps oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Meh, with the Fedak interviews I like the setup for season 5 even less.

I really enjoyed Team B working for the CIA and that Sarah and Casey had a lot of experience with that.

Additionally the Morgan/Chuck bromance is my least favourite dynamic on the show and it sounds as if it will be front and center now. I love the Morgan/Casey dynamic, though. So hopefully there will be more of that.

And Chuck in charge just reminds me of Muuurder, which I really didn´t enjoy much.

Maybe they should have let Sarah die and have Chuck and Morgan get married.

I really didn´t like the way Morgan became intersected, either. It was so repetitive, but way less amazing in execution than Chuck getting the intersect 2.0.

I am also not interested in watching Morgan going through all the stuff Chuck went with the intersect. Although maybe they just completely scrapped any possible problems with it, like the governor, having to be in control of ones emotions or having to have the right brain to be able to hold it.

Actually I kind of hope they just ignore all of that, because I am not very interested in watching all of that again with Morgan in the starring role.

I did love Hartley Winterbottom. I think I would rather watch him next season. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  101. I still can't decide on a rating... Overall, it was pretty good, very happy about their wedding because I was freaking out thinking it wouldn't happen. I like the whole "conspiracy theory" dealio, wondering where that's going. The comments made by Decker will help keep suspense for people to watch S5. NBC should have let the writers know that Chuck would be on for another season, I found the twist of Morgan having the Intersect LAME. It would have been fine if there was not another season, but I've just got a feeling that he's going to get really annoying or not be able to handle. Get the Intersect back to Chuck, please. I'll watch the final season because I've been a fan since the very beginning (and plus for Zachary Levi. Love him. :-) ) but so far I'm thinking that it'll be one of, if not, THE least enjoyable season. Please prove me wrong. I'm begging you.

    ReplyDelete
  102. There is really no reason to get up in arms about the mythology anymore since it's just gotten ridiculous but that doesn't stop me from enjoying it for one more season cause of the characters, relationship, and the comedy. 88/100 great ep till the bad ending - where they rehashed S2 and ruined the idea that Chuck was "special" now that everyone can get the intersect. Oh well still solid

    HT

    ReplyDelete
  103. Fedak thought the reuse of the "I know kung-fu" line was amazingly clever and witty. He probably thought us fans would enjoy it the third time around and become extremley giddy.

    No, no, no.
    It was lame.
    COME ON. GET REAL.

    80/100

    ReplyDelete
  104. I agree with anonymous if that's their name that I actually like that cliffhanger more if it was the series ending cause I would have just laughed

    HT

    ReplyDelete
  105. HT, that is how I reacted to the season 2 cliffhanger. I laughed because we had no clue if it was the series or season finale. And I thought "What an absolutely ballzy way of going out." And I meant in a real douchie kind of way.

The cliffhanger in season 2 became better once the show was renewed. This time it just doesn't have the same feeling. My opinion hasn't changed since the day I heard about it.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Let's call the Morgan twist,in fact they are the same kind of glass as manouch made so it's only a kung fu upload intersect , a tool that the new free lance team will use , a gift from Beckman. Chuck is the center of this show and will remain so dont worry before then end of first episode he will get it back. What concern me the most is the sarcasm of Decker about that conspiracy . hmmm

    John

    ReplyDelete
  107. Please tell me what I missed. Why in the bloomin' onion would the CIA leave the "glasses" in the box? I just don't understand. And, I also found it really lame, that Morgan would just unwittingly put the glasses on ... hasn't he been around long enough to know better?

    KJ

    ReplyDelete
  108. the first 50 minutes 99/100
the last 10 minutes mehh 50/100.

    96 overall

    ReplyDelete
  109. FYI, I delete any comment that references "saving" the show or "getting" more episodes. We have no power to do any such things. Stop being delusional and wasting time writing that crap here.

    Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I hope I can warm up to the cliffhanger and the setup for next season. And that´s definitely not out of the question.

And they definitely could still do something great with this next season, but right now I can´t really see it.

Right now, I think I would have prefered Chuck and Sarah on the run with new identities. Although I never thought that was a realistic option.

Anyway my initial reaction was extremly negative and I usually am not that vocal about the things I dislike. I am also happy for everyone, who loved the setup.

And Josh Gomez is great and he already has made Morgan much more likeable than he was in season 1. So maybe they can do something cool with this setup.

I am looking forward to your podcast in any case. :)

    ReplyDelete
  111. The thing with 'i know kung fu'.

I can see why you'd think it lame to reuse that...

At the same time, Morgan is supposed to be Chuck 2.0. He's already showed many parallels. The two have always shared similar humor and movie references. So it makes sense that Morgan would say the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Alex, did Morgan watch the episodes or something? Because he wasn't there for either time.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Wouldnt have to have been there... when the same thing happens, theyre enough alike (especially in regard to pop culture references) that they might say the same thing.

Though... as compared to when chuck said it the first time, Chuck said it after he actually used it.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Alex, your attempt to make your fictionalization of events work is worse than the actual concept of the cliffhanger.

    Negative 10.

    ReplyDelete
  115. That cliffhanger...WHY?!...WHY?!
The evolution of the intersect story has become trite and painfully lame: intersect, de-intersect, undo, suppress, repeat, etc.
Intersects: Shaw, Volkoff, random GRETAS, and now the little bearded man.
I understand that they wanted Chuck to save Sarah without the intersect, which was poignant, but come on!!!
No more rinse and repeat, please.
Loved most everything else, but that damn cliffhanger was lamer than I could have imagined.
    - Charlotte

    ReplyDelete
  116. @John yep the glass thing seems kinda strange I did make the same point a lil further up your post so I get what you mean or perhaps we are nitpicking, *wink*.
As for the Decker thing at the end I found it kinda ominous at what part he suddenly cut of ... makes me wonder if we should get surer about the theory that PapaB was saved the same way as Shaw and will come back in S5 ... just as Awesome once said - You can always come back as long as there was no decapitation involved (ok I'm paraphrasing here).-

    ReplyDelete
  117. Loved this episode besides the fact that Sarah Walker was barely in it. Well no kicking ass anyway. Then the freaken ending. Morgan of all people seriously? For one, what happened to not all people can handle that much into the brain. I'm pretty sure if Chuck started to die from it slowly (Going crazy until the watch)then Morgan would nearly instantly die. Not sure if I'm looking forward to this at all. I love Chuck and I love Morgan, but sorry. There is only one real true intersect and that is Chuck.

    Dakota

    ReplyDelete
  118. Since Morgan/Alex and Mogan/Chuck are actually me least favourite dynamics on the show I can’t say I’m thrilled that this might mean both will be more in the forefront next season.

I’ve already seen Chuck go through this the past 4 seasons, I don’t need to see it a re do in Morgan.

    - Jess

    ReplyDelete
  119. @Dakota this has been discussed in 2 or 3 post above yours so check them out perhaps you might find them a lil helpful if even just in the knowledge that you are not alone in your line of thinking. Though don't be to negative about it lets first see what the writers are actually going to do with it in S5. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  120. @Jess I will just say it again ... negativity doesn't help wait for what the writers will be doing and if you don't like it then, ok. Though lets wait with my mothers favorite pastime I like to call "advanced dressing-down". ;)

    ReplyDelete
  121. Once again Magnus you are correct. THIS WAS A TERRIBLE EPISODE. Everything i though was corny and predictable and it might be one of my least favorite episodes this season. I understand that Morgan and the intersect can easily be fixed yet in all honesty, if the series ended like that i would have been furious!
Another thing to point out: Sarah's Dress? That was definitely not the same dress she picked out in the other episode.
Magnus, what do you think, considering i will never doubt you again after calling all the events that went on in the past week, will be the direction in the 5th season of this series? Will we see Morgan as an intersect for long? Will Chuck get it back and will Alex play a bigger role in next season?
Dont get me wrong I do love Chuck but this episode bothered be for several reasons and i completely understand what you have been saying for the past few weeks regarding the finale.

    ReplyDelete
  122. The initial reaction is going to be positive or negative. Over time, as people either accept the problem and start thinking of how it can work, or those who initially thought it was positive begin to see the problems... either way, we will likely meet in the middle in a few weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I loved almost the whole episode, for me it worked just fine(i got what i wanted : Sarah still alive, Chuck being the hero , Volkof de-intersected, buy-morons still in the picture , some nice moments between Chuck&Sarah, Casey kicking ass and being marked by the multitude of russians! and last but for sure not least The Weading) I think we can't really complain about anything except for the lack of hardcore honeymoon material :)))
So... for 42 minutes out of 43 i will give it a 100/100 for the last minute (involving Morgan being Intersected :| ) i go as far as 1/100 (i'm not as harsh as Magnus to say 0/100) :)
Overall a good ending to season 4 , but i think it wouldn't of served a good ending to the series ;)
p.s. I REALLY REALLY REALLY HOPE that the producers & writing staff are aware of the fact that Morgan while being very funny and a great supporting character it's good for the show in small dozes and a season 5 axed on Morgan the super-spy would be ridiculous and that's for sure not the way to end a great show like CHUCK. I hope what Fedak meant by "You should wait for act 5" translates in : he will have the intersect for 1,2 episode and then he'll be de-intersected and Chuck will be the only one who has it ;)

    ReplyDelete
  124. @DorkaliciousD Oh don't get me wrong I don't like the ending at all, but hell I've been with Chuck since the start, I'm not about to give up on it now. Till the end till the end.
Besides I stayed with it during the whole Shaw trainwreck. I'm pretty sure I can handle this. lol

    Dakota

    ReplyDelete
  125. Patrick, seems like I wasn't right since I only thought the cliffhanger was bad. There were other weak spots but I loved or liked a majority of it.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Adrian, I said 0 out of a 1 out of 10, not 0 out of 100.

    ReplyDelete
  127. the problem is that im going to have to stick with this ending for several months hoping and praying that the writers will get things set back on track. and there is no doubt i think they will but maybe they wanted to put some humor in it. i am hoping that they do something like season 3 opener where it has flashbacks and this season will flash back on how morgan lost the intersect before we get into the good episodes of the season.
so will u be doing podcasts over the break every once in a while or will it start up again near the beginning of the next season

    ReplyDelete
  128. here's my 2 cents. i'm not a shipper but i thought the wedding and chuck and sarah moments were the best part. the suppressed intersect in chuck or it not working i have seen enough. chuck having an army come in has now been used twice this year. not fond of the death bed to wedding but i can understand the time constraints. now apparently anybody can get the intersect. at least the greta's had to be picked, so i guess they did some testing. knowing morgan will get even more screen time does nothing for me at all.

over all rating 40. the end killed it. i hope what ever they were thinking works out.

can't wait for the pod cast. thanks for all the work you do.

    TW0073

    ReplyDelete
  129. Oh... yeah, no... they are not taking this back that quickly. Morgan will be the Intersect for at least a few episodes, unless they really feel the fans don't like it (but I doubt they will change anything anyway).

    ReplyDelete
  130. @Dakota :D good I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on their future Friday night entertainment. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  131. Uh , that means i'm more harsh then you ?:-s =))
cause in my book repeating a thing again and again and again ... is the worst thing that happens to a tv show (i just hope i'm right about Fedak's statement and there will be no MorganSuperSpy for long :P)
btw. just out of curiosity how would you rate the episode per total ? for me it's like 97/100 overall (i can't cut that much from the rating for 1 predictable minute:P)

    ReplyDelete
  132. I will rate the episode on the podcast. I still want to watch it a few times.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Morgan is a good supporting actor like adrian said but for him to take almost a piece away from Chuck is really frustrating. Well i guess on to the positives: The wedding was great and all but my favorite scene was the "prep" wedding in the pajamas. The whole scene from what they were wearing to Chucks book(he would) and for some reason Sarahs vows really got to me because it almost seemd as if she didnt really understand how powerful her words were and acted as if she was just doing what she was supposed to do. The lines were perfect and i loved that scene.
Was your reason for not liking the cliffhanger if u can even call it that just that morgan became the intersect or is ur disapproval greater than that?

    ReplyDelete
  134. Ok ok .. one more question new hair Yvonne (Sarah) or Kristin Kreuk (Hannah) =)) ? :-?

    ReplyDelete
  135. Man... Kristin Kreuk or dark haired Yvonne? Tough call. Though, Kristin Kreuk has never recorded a special message saying hi to me. Yvonne has. :)

    Yvonne wins.

    ReplyDelete
  136. In my book the only true and sincere answer to that question is ... : STACY KEBLER (gotta love the gretta, i really think she's like the best looking girl that was ever on this show :D) And from those 2 Yvonne when she's blonde :D P.S. you should like really make a poll on who was the hotest girl that ever appeared in this show :D:D:D i think you'll have multiple options to pick from :)

    ReplyDelete
  137. Magnus, you are right it is a zero. Ambivalent about it. And that is telling that with this cliffhanger am not going hell yeah, let's go there. More like, gotta think about this.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I would never run a poll like that because I find it disrespectful to the ladies to rate them by their looks in such a discriminating manner.

It is one thing to have a discussion about whether Yvonne is prettier than Kristin Kreuk as a brunette, but another thing entirely to put it to a vote. It just isn't my kind of thing.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Geez. The show needs a new energy.

Morgan with the Intersect, Chuck back to S1 without it, Chuck buying the BUYMORE, them going against the CIA, is the new shot of energy the show needs for a final run.

    ReplyDelete
  140. It is set up so perfectly. The new independent Bartowski Industries vs the CIA.

If this whole talk about the CIA grooming and playing Chuck to mass produce the intersect and if this really does turn up being Team Bartowski vs CIA, then this has got to be a great twist. Not one person could predict that.

So many things make sense. The CIA 'detained' Manoosh. That would reveal how the CIA got Manoosh's technology.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Everything up to Morgan getting the Intersect is a nice shot of energy. Morgan getting the Intersect is where I cringe. We shall of course see how it plays out...

    ReplyDelete
  142. And I think you guys need to go back and read the note near the Intersect glasses.

Also, did you guys ALREADY forget Chuck Vs. the Break-Up?

    ReplyDelete
  143. I was laughing, I was cheering, I was full throttle enjoying that episode (so many Russians), and then came the ending. It was a literal pin in my happy Chuck balloon. If my power had gone out right after Chuck said 'oh boy', my rating would be up in the 90s. I've read the interviews and reactions of others and I'm starting to think I'm not the audience it was written for. What I love about Chuck is those moments that make me cheer regardless of their basis in reality, but Morgan having an intersect feels to me like the 'cousins replace Bo and Luke' season of the Dukes of Hazzard. Granted, I was a child at the time it aired and that show was pure sugar (elementary school me thought it was brilliant), but I knew I wasn't watching it to see a random blond and brunette drive an orange car.  I love Chuck being the intersect, especially when being the intersect meant something. Morgan already got his parallel. Chuck became a spy. Morgan became a rocking store manager. Potential realized, congratulations. I am not pleased with the new development. It has left me feeling a giant 'meh'. I guess I will have to see.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Three things I didn't like about the episode.

The Vivian Volkoff character wasn't fleshed out very well and the ending to that storyline was weak.

Morgan being intersected at the end.

Timothy Dalton wasn't as funny as he was in First fight.
The writers didn't give him as many funny lines this time.

    Everything else worked for him.

What Decker said about the CIA setting Chuck up from the beginning could be a great storyline for season 5 or the moment this show jumped the shark.
It depends on how well this storyline is written and executed.

    Magnus,

During the next podcast are you just gonna talk about the final episode or your thoughts on season 4 as a whole?

    ReplyDelete
  145. We will talk about this tomorrow on the podcast, I bet to some extent, especially since we have an old friend back on the podcast who is an expert in the field... but the SMALLVILLE finale was a spectacular disappointment, in my opinion, to the point where I am thankful I only wasted TWO seasons on the show. Had I been watching that piece of crap for 10 seasons, I would want REVENGE!

And yet the fans who have been sitting in the choir of the church of craptastic story writing were gushing about it. OMG! SOOOOO GEWD!!!

It was crap, apart from the final few minutes. It was a cop-out at best and worst of all, they treated their main characters with such disrespect that it made LOST and BSG finales that much better for at least giving closure to most of their main characters.

So, I look at CHUCK like this... I am no longer watching for continuity. I am no longer watching for quality story telling even. I am in it for the characters. And tonight, they nailed most of that (the main characters, at least). So, as long as they don't punt the characters into stupidland, I will keep watching.

But had this been the series finale, I would be far more disappointed by them ending on such a lame writing note.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Magnus what do you mean about chuck vs the breakup that was ep 2.3..... care to explain?

    ReplyDelete
  147. 2.03 to be accurate... and it should be obvious.

But since some of you don't pay attention to the show you claim to love... Chuck updates his Intersect via sunglasses that Bryce gave him. So, they have had similar tech for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I failed to read the comment considering i wasnt really in that conversation. When does the fall season start. O and i know that it was renewed for a final season does that mean it will only be 13 episodes long or can it be extended to a full 22?

    ReplyDelete
  149. I am also going to give the cliffhanger a 0, but not for the same reason as Magnus.

The Morgansecting and last line were weak in the extreme, but I'm not overly bothered by that. If anything, what bothers me is the implication that Chuck isn't necessarily as special as we've kind of been led to believe (see Agents Oldspice and Stacey Keebler for reference). Again, I can learn to live with that, and I hope they make this new turn of events work next season.

I'm giving the cliffhanger a 0 because it wasn't a cliffhanger. Sure, there's a looming conspiracy (or something), and we have yet to see how the Bartowski & Bartowski detective agency works out, or even how Intersect Morgan works out. However, there is no sense of imminent danger or uncertainty. That's not a cliffhanger.

That said, the rest of the episode was great. The wedding and flashbacks, as cheesy as they were, were also all kinds of awesome. As were Awesome, Casey and even Morgan. And we got a glimpse of Chuck without the intersect but with 4 years of immersion into the spy world on top of his natural smarts and good heart. That more than anything else is a sign of good things to come, at least to me.

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  150. I just feel like the basic truth of the show has been stripped away. Chuck = Intersect, even during all of the retcons about why and how, I bought into it because it was basis of the show. I feel sort of foundationless and kind of detached now. I'm hoping that will change. I don't know if I'm making any sense.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Hey Magnus,

I definitely get why you're not into the Morgan intersect thing, and the usage of the same line at the end did make me cringe a bit. Also the first thing I thought of when he said "I know kung fu" was that those glasses didn't HAVE the freaking kung fu piece of the intersect in them ... or at least not last I checked. Unless they were upgraded at some point and I forgot.

I'd say I'm much more excited about the prospect of them running their own agency than the Morgan thing, but overall I'm still fine with the ending. I agree that we'll have to see how it plays out, but I think both of these stories have potential. I also like the idea of Chuck REALLY losing the intersect because that is bound to create some comedy as well.

The one and only piece of this episode that DID annoy me was something that didn't seem to annoy anyone else haha - and that is the the weird cut between an almost dead Sarah and then BOOM: wedding and everything is fine again. I know it made for a funny gag with the funeral/wedding thing, but I still found it really jarring and I had a hard time getting my head into the wedding scene at that point. I kept thinking it was a dream and that they'd cut back to Sarah dying right at the end and that would be the cliffhanger. :-P

    Overall I think I'd give this episode like a ... 94.

    ReplyDelete
  152. You can bet your foshizzles that Chuck will have the Intersect back working at some point in season 5. Otherwise, why make a point to have a line of dialogue that calls it a suppression device?

I can't say more about it because I have an idea of where this is all going. But it is fun to speculate while I still can. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  153. Heh, I just looked at my post and it reads sooo melodramatic. Such a loser.

I'm glad you're sure he'll get the intersect back. I just need to keep an open mind about where they go from here.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Don't beat yourself up over it... we all get melodramatic about the things we love. :)

    ReplyDelete
  155. where do you think it is going?

    ReplyDelete
  156. "I am in it for the characters. And tonight, they nailed most of that (the main characters, at least). So, as long as they don't punt the characters into stupidland, I will keep watching."

You read my mind because this is EXACTLY how I feel.

Oh and Smallville finale? OMG crap! If this had been Chuck's finale it would have still >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Smallville's finale.

Thankfully though we have another season to wrap up Chuck and I expect the writers to take full advantage of it.

4.24 I would have been fine with as a finale and I would have still looked back on Chuck as one of my fav shows, but with 13 eps to finish up I'm now expecting them to deliver more. But as long as the main characters all get a happy, satisfying end I will be happy (and it would be the icing on the cake if we saw little CS running around with a super hero cape in the finale flashforward LOL).

    - Jess

    ReplyDelete
  157. You know with a cool billion (more or less) in the bank, that Hart to Hart dream of Morgan's is quite literally coming true. Morgan can be Max (he even called Sarah "Mrs. B") and Casey can be the dog.

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  158. I get the feeling that their $800 million, or whatever, will disappear quickly in season 5. The writers couldn't possibly miss the opportunity to make the Buy More an important revenue operation to the team. That would be a great way to go back to the core elements of the show. The Buy More becoming a bigger element of the show should bring back young men who love electronics and have crappy jobs.

    ReplyDelete
  159. LOL loved the episode except for the first time ever i am judging what the hell the writers were thinking giving Morgan the intersect??? WHY :)

Oh well good ending to a pretty good season. Definitely gonna miss Chuck over the break! Best start learning to deal with it being gone after Season 5 :(

    ReplyDelete
  160. Excellent episode until Chuck was at Sarah's bed with the antidote. Chuck is closing his eyes and (almost?) praying that it should work. Okay. But then the next scene is the church with the wedding. No wake up of Sarah, no releave at Chuck, Ellie, Devon etc? Strange. And then at the church with Morgan as the priest, afterwards as the driver and most of all as the new intersect? And the enormous amount of money from Volkoff? The weird Decker speech? The freelance-agency idea? It felt forced and off to me, too much quick (re)solution deus ex machina stuff, not enough making sense after all what happened this episode and season. This load of tricks wouldn't mind so much if it would have been the series finale, even Morgan as the intersect would have made sense in a way as a kind of reboot of the whole series. But now all those tricks will going to hurt season 5 I'm afraid.

I know I sound silly saying this but it was just if Chuck felt asleep at Sarah's bed after arriving with the antidote and dreamt the whole wedding and everything after. I know this scenario is nonsense and is not meant like this but if Schwartz & Fedak want an easy way out of this lame Morgan-as-intersect stuff next season then there is the easy solution: wakeup Chuck-with-the-antidote at Sarah's bed, Sarah recovers, again the wedding and continue with a better setup for the last 13 episodes. A lame trick to correct a lame trick.

And by the way since when can those Intersect-suppression/recover glasses also putting the intersect into someone new? And if it can why wouldn't Chuck, Sarah and Casey use it too and become also intersects (again) ? It only needs new batteries perhaps (talking about lame).

    ReplyDelete
  161. Chuck's college dream has come true. He's can now be a rich semi-retired software millionaire selling Intersect based video games exclusively at his Buy More franchise because contrary to the canon and mythology established at the beginning of the show, anyone can downlaod the software. The person is not important, the software is... and whatever happened to the occular identification feature of the glasses from Season 2?

    ReplyDelete
  162. @maryploppins
I thought the exact same thing for almost the entire wedding scene, that it had to be a
dream. I couldnt even sit back and enjoy the scene because I kept waiting for Chuck to wake
up next to Sarah in the hospital or their own bed.
As for the rest of the episode, i'm kind of wondering when Chuck and Sarah had their little
practice run. I know it said 5 days ago but that didnt really line up with everything that
happened in the last episode. But a minute into the episode i didnt really care anymore,
it was the perfect excuse to keep sweet and sexy Sarah in more of the episode. This episode
definitely had tons of stuff happening from one moment to the next. I liked the introduction
to Decker. "You know how I said the CIA would send someone to kill us if we knew about agent X.
Well this is the guy who killed that guy." Hopefully he'll work out as a worthy villian.
Thorian, Iridian-6, and the Norseman. Not even gonna touch those. Timothy Dalton was great as
as always but not Awesome. As someone else said he didnt have as many hilarious lines.
I guess Volkoff was the funny and sadistic one. And that explains why Winterbottom signed
up for the project in the first place. He was a geeky scientist who wanted to be cool.
Now the ending, I think the giant conspiracy thing angers me more than morgan getting
the interesct. But both subjects intrigue me greatly and i'm all ready for a season 5.
But the reason the conspiracy makes me so angry is because I have seen every episode
so many times and gone over every detail of the mythology. (and before you say it
i'm not obsessive, my job just gives me way too much time to think.) And I dont see how
the writers can pull this one off. There have been so many loose threads and plot holes
throughout the story of Chuck that I was just happy to let them all go and enjoy the
show til it came to a happy ending. But now the writers have basically promised to tie
everything up in a neat little package, and I doubt that its even possible. And then I
think what if it is possible, it would be the most awesome thing ever. It's a treacherous
    path you walk Chuck staff.
As for Morgan I think im still in WTF land here. I immediately thought of Bryce's
glasses. Were they set for only one use then they burn out because I didnt see them do
that, and why wouldn't you put a retinal scanner in them Beckman. All in all I give
the writers credit for having balls on this one. Now lets see if they have the skills
to pull it all off. 85 out of 100 with a right to change my score next season.

  163. I enjoyed the episode. It made me laugh I awed at the appropriate parts. The Morgan sect was one of those moments when I groaned and laughed at the same time. If it had been the finale episode I would have been fine with it, since it's not I have big concerns about S5.

My concern really is that the last time Chuck lost the Intersect he turned into a three year old, I'm not sure I want to see that S1/S2 guy again. S1 is actually my least favorite season and it definately feels like they want to go more towards that kind of feel, hapless, bumbling goof being aided and protected by an experienced spy.

Which would work but for one MAJOR issue, how can Chuck protect Morgan now? That suppression device better get unsuppressed real quick or we see Chuck has actually been working on his physical skills otherwise this feels like S5 might end up being a retrograde step in Chuck's progression/capabilities. Which I don't want to watch, I've seen that before.

  164. I suppose I'm one of the few that don't mind Morgan the Intersect. Yeah.. going with the kung-fu line was a bit weak, but I didn't go "OH MY GOD NO!" or anything. In fact, I laughed at how he just fell backwards. Makes me look forward to the next season and what sort of storylines they can write for this.

Also, I guess I'm one of the few who doesn't mind that Chuck has no intersect. Yeah... I'm sure he'll get it back next season, but I just always felt like it was a crutch, and in the big, 'hero' moments he's had over the course of the show, he's done so without huge usage out of the intersect. So meh. If he gets it back, he gets it back.

Loved Morgan calling Sarah "Mrs. B" and the whole vibe of them as a married couple, even if it was only for a short amount of time. When Chuck flashed the wedding ring to Jeff and Lester.. that was cool too, so as the small shipper side of me, that part was satisfied.

And Decker.. holy crap what a big, dumb meanie head. (Don't want to curse here!) But seriously. So evil. I could see him coming back next season for sure.

Overall.. I'd say.. a 95 I guess? There weren't any parts that I disliked.. well outside of Vivian, and a shame they couldn't kill her off. =[ But I liked Dalton's performance a lot, even if he didn't have many funny lines, and I loved Casey in the ep too. He had some awesome moments.

Also, I wasn't spoiled about the Morgan thing before it aired as I actually took a nap early in the day and missed the hubbub/blunder by NBC, so hooray there. Also.. did I see Ali Adler in the list of writers for next season? If so.. that's made of win.

  165. I just finished watching the episode a few times online (being in australia and all and only getting chuck on cable) and I got to agree with magnus on the cliffhanger. 0.
I mean, I guess I kinda get why the writers would want to repeat the dialogue (chucks first reaction and all the such) but as magnus said earlier, it is laziness on behalf of the writer's in my opinion.
Tuth be told i'm not sure how i will react with morgan as the intersect, i admit that it goes against chuck Lore and i've always seen morgan as the comic relief with a few notable exceptions.but it will be interesting (I guess) to see what direction the writers take it
For the episode I would give it a 80/100. it lost points for the cliff hanger, decker's last speech and honestly would have liked to see more casey in the episode. watching him beat up the CIA agents was the best bit.

  166. Seriously, I love almost the entire episode!! So much twists, so much things happening at the same time...Oh, and in the ending, the Morgan thing, I was like "Are you kidding me??"!!=) And the Chuck and Sarah montage, after the wedding, was very very cool - it reminded me the old times!!=D Oh, and the Funeral/Wedding thing was VERY clever!!!=D
I have to agree with what you said before, Magnus - This episode could be a movie!!! It has so much to feel and see... For another words, I LOVED IT!!!=D And I'm really curious about next season!!=)

And that is where this might all go downhill... or uphill.

Thanks Magnus, for calming me down. I quote 100% what you said. I have to watch the episode again a couple of times, before I can rate it, and the ending gave so many open possibilities, that we can only hope that TPTB won't waste it. And of course, being spoiled of the cliffhanger pretty ruined the whole thing to me, but... let's be confident!

  168. Hi Magnus

So the writers finally went there after coming close a few times to giving someone else in Team B the intersect, or at least a basic version of it.

    Hmmm...

Everything else was great... I didn't mind the instant transition from Sarah in hospital to Sarah in her wedding dress either, they had a lot of stuff to cover in a short space of time as they were not sure if they would be renewed.

    Rating 95/100 not including cliffhanger.

I will wait and see what happens next season in regards to the cliffhanger, they may have something really cool up their sleeve.

  169. That is why I am careful with spoilers. Some people can't help themselves but spoil anyone and everyone around them. I feel that I have my finger on the pulse of what people will find interesting without having the episode ruined.

Though, every now and then I sneak a big spoiler in there... but people think they know me so they imagine it can't be correct or big since I don't normally do it. It allows me to spoil big without people realizing it. ;)

  170. For the first time I am disappointed after an interview with Fedak. I don't want to spread negativity here but his ideas how to proceed in season 5 are not for me. Chuck-without-insersect being the handler of Morgan-with-intersect. I understand that this is back to the S1/S2 roots but why do that? If I want to see S1/S2 I have my DVDs. What does it add to story?

Moreover, the story is foremost Chuck's saga and is founded in the real world (kind of) and told with comedy, action and romance. No superpowers, magic or other imaginary/fantasy stuff, the only trick is the Intersect but we were told over and over that it only functions properly with Chuck (all other temporary attempts of bad and good guys failed every time) and even more important the intersect was developed by Chuck's family and so forming a Bartowski legacy and in a way Chuck's birthright to successfully use it. Also we were told that Chuck was very special to withstand the stress of the Intersect (even as a child) and it is only possible to withstand on the long term with the assistance of a device also made by Pa Bartowski ("Governor"). A special story four years in the making and delivering!

And now out of nowhere sidekick Morgan will be the intersect - gone is the exclusivity of the device and so undermining the fundamentals of why the story is (was?) so great IMO. Morgan's involvement in the spy action this season was sometimes already too much for my taste but now he will become even the pivot of the story and action. Again, I like the character but as the side kick, the best friend of, not as an over the top anti hero (which even Chuck in fundamentals never was). It starting to feel as a soap-opera-with-slapstick and that hurts.

I sincerely hope I am too pessimistic and that the creators and writers are capable to make it work (again). But I don't hold my breath. Ah well, one advantage, it will be more easy to pass the summer months than I expected...

    ReplyDelete
  171. I've always felt I was into Chuck for the hero's journey and that journey has been concluded for a while. They did a great job in this episode of actually adding a little extra mileage to it by removing the Intersect and having him come through when it really meant something.

I'm not feeling, like others, that Chuck, the character, or Chuck, the show even needs Chuck to have an intersect anymore. It would actually be much more satisfying to me for Chuck to improve his fighting skills the hard way, like Sarah,Casey and his mom did.

The "cliffhanger" was dumb, but I can deal with it. I can also see, in the context of the Chuck's journey being done, that they went in this direction to try to recapture Season 1, but with another character. Whether it works remains to be seen.

If anything, it all reinforces why the "nine episodes and we're done" doesn't upset me at all. I welcome it.

Like Magnus, I'm in it for the characters at this point. If I worry too much about the logic or the timelines(which I quit worrying about in Honeymooners) or the arc, I would have quit the show a long time ago.

I just hope that Fedak doesn't do something like this is 513. Just have an ending. Tell us where the characters are in a few years, like The OC did. That's my favorite way for shows to end.

(Oh, and the Smallville finale WAS crap.)

  172. @dkd

Thats just it, I'd be ok with the idea if I thought they'd have Chuck improving his physical skills the hard way (or if they'd kept his Krav Maga training as a throughline) and thus being able to handle and protect Morgan competently the way that Sarah used to for him. I just don't seem to be getting that vibe from Chris Fedak at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  173. The solutions felt too easy, and the Morgan things -- as minister, as limo driver, and as Intersect -- were both lame and Too Much Morgan. As many others have said, this show is not about Morgan. He's like an Ewok -- too much of him and its cloying and cute.

I felt the episode had a lot of potential, but missed. Why not have Sarah wake up after the antidote, smile, and reference back to the end of The Other Guy? Why did she look perfectly health in the wedding -- you'd have thought she'd be at least a little weak. In fact, I kept waiting for the wedding and car ride to turn into a dream, and then have the real wedding in the hospital.

Why did Alexi regain his courage to come in to see Vivian? Again, too easy a resolution.

Overall, I enjoyed it, and I'm very glad they got the two protagonists married. That can now be a backdrop to Season Five. But, lose the stupid Morgan as Intersect thing fast.

  174. Really? You wanted Sarah weak at the wedding?

I always find it funniest when someone criticizes the writing and then suggests an even worse idea. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  175. @Razorback

No, I didn't want Sarah weak. But if she's just gone through the Hell Of The Norseman, and barely recovered, and there doesn't seem to be a big passage of time until the wedding, you'd a thunk that there'd be some sequellae to that Near To Death episode. So, if they'd given us a "One Week Later" or something, or even a "she wakes up and smiles" transition, it would have worked far better.

  176. Food for thought:

    - the wedding was paid with money coming from scams (by Sarah's father)

    - the Buy More, new equipment and probably more was/is bought with money made by selling illegal arms and other very criminal activities (coming from Volkoff industries)

Hmm... Pecunia non olet. Or doing good with bad money?

2.03 to be accurate... and it should be obvious.

But since some of you don't pay attention to the show you claim to love... Chuck updates his Intersect via sunglasses that Bryce gave him. So, they have had similar tech for a while.<<

The important word in there being "update" which implies an upload of the complete system beforehand. Perhaps I'm not really imaginative ... scratch the perhaps I probably am ;D though I can't just yet wrap my mind around a complete upload of the intersect via those glasses (I want Chuck keep being special)and maybe Morgan just got a bare-bone (OS) so to speak just including skill-sets or so...

Can't wait for the podcast Magnus! ;D

  182. I enjoyed the episode a lot more than I expected I would, but the set up for Season 5 strikes me as too much like fan fiction. Chuck and Sarah getting their hands on a ton of money and buying the Buy More? Chuck's entire spy career being masterminded by some unseen force? I think I've read those plots before. I am intrigued by seeing their version of the "A-Team" played out on the screen.

I hope we don't look back at Morgan getting the intersect as the show's "jump the shark" moment, but right now, that is initial reaction. It doesn't make me look forward to next season, it just makes me groan and roll my eyes.

OK guess I will have to start wrapping my head around it now. Hmmmm

    ReplyDelete
  184. @DorkaliciousD, I don't worry at all about Chuck's intersect-lessness. I don't mention it even in my posts! On the contrary that is one of the developments that I like.

What I don't like, and worry about, it that Morgan has the intersect. IMO to be consistent with the story so far is that Chuck has the (functioning) intersect or nobody has.

    ReplyDelete
  185. Ok, I slept on it and rewatched and I still really enjoy the episode minus the cliffhanger and the setup for the next season, which I still hate.

    Too much Morgan!

I actually love Chuck without the intersect and I think I can really warm up to the freelance idea. Sarah´s past working cons could be fun in that context and Casey not working for the government any more could also be great. I loved him with the russians.

But for the same reason I love the idea of Chuck not having an intersect, I hate the idea of Morgan as an intersect even more.

Chuck having all these abilities without ever training for them sometimes felt like cheating, but at least he had to go through a lot to have that actually work for him. And all his growth and sacrifices made it feel earned in a way.

I don´t want to see Morgan going through all that stuff at light speed at all, but him having any abilities without any of that feels so so unearned.

And I get the feeling that Sarah and Casey are now just there to marvel at the intersected wonders (especially if Chuck gets his working again). I really hate that setup.

    ReplyDelete
  186. I'm not sure why, but the finale didn't click for me. It's been easy to suspend reality until this episode. Rather than seeing Chuck, Sarah, Casey, etc... I was watching Zac, Yvonne and Adam.

Maybe it was Zac's reminder of Jumping the Shark in interviews for quite awhile. Chuck on a motorcycle with obvious green screen background made me look for a shark tank. Maybe it was Fonzie's leather jacket he was wearing.

Morgan as a Priest. I don't let my own religious beliefs affect my TV viewing, but that is nonsense -- too much to suspend.

And perhaps it was an intentional reference, but I felt the entire ending was from an episode of Heart to Heart with Morgan as Max the chauffeur. I understand the story lines are very analogous with Chuck and Sarah now owners of Charah Industries, but it would have been better comedy if Chuck would have called Morgan "Max" to show us he was also in on the joke.

Maybe I should go eat some sugar and be happy to have a S5... =]

    ReplyDelete
  187. Thank GOD I'm not the only one that hates Morgan getting the intersect...Morgan is the bumbling friend. He's not the hero. But I loved pretty much the whole episode up to that point. What a treasure Timothy Dalton turned out to be for the show.

  188. I didn't like morgan's was an intersect!! The show's name became from CHUCK to MORGAN???? I didn't like it!!!! if the show goes on MORGAN I don't think I will watch it.
I didn't like the final episode. I think we have to accept chuck and sarah are brother and sister!! There weren't any passion kisses even in wedding!!
The cliffhanger wasn't satisfying. Whole cases in final episode was like pressed and gone so fast.I didn't like all!!! I was expecting more!!

    ReplyDelete
  189. is it true that the finale had 10.10 mil. viewers?
its not that i dont like morgan having the intersect. i dont like chuck dont having it. the show is about chuck. not morgan. they should really give it to him soon.

    ReplyDelete
  190. In response to FiveG's comments. They didn't say "one week later", but it's pretty obvious it wasn't the day after she got the antidote.

They would have missed their original reservation at the church while she was in the hospital and Chuck was flying around the world. Getting a new ceremony scheduled and informing their invitees when and where to go would have taken at least a few days.

They didn't have to say "one week later". It just wouldn't be the next day in any regard.

Eaglemoomin is probably right that they probably won't make any big deal about Chuck's lack of fighting skills. It may be another one of those things they made a big deal about in the past that gets glossed over ala Ellie's quick acceptance of Chuck as a spy a few week's ago.

At any rate, we know from "Last Details" and other episodes that Chuck can throw a good punch when he wants to (or the writers want him to).

    ReplyDelete
  191. I do have one request for the next 13 that Chuck finally gets his own ground transportation.

That motorcycle would be nice. I'd love to see that again.

    ReplyDelete
  192. The last cliffhanger was awful. I stopped the episode when Morgan put the glasses on. I was chocked and i was crying of despair. I watched the few last seconds left, hours after, and i can't believe how lame it is to re-re-use this line again.

I have barely borne Morgan this season. I prefered when he was one of the Buy Morons. I mean come on ! Buy Moron => Assistant manager => manager => Intersect. WTF IS THIS ???!! The show is called "Morgan" or what ??!

Anyhow... i like the idea of "freelance Team B." and the fact that Chuck is now the owner of Buy More. I hope writers will use the Buy More more often in the last season.

ps : i'm French so excuse me for grammatical mistakes if there are ;)

  193. DR,
I give all but the last min of the show a 98.

As much as I love the show they really jumped the shark tank this time.
I could live with the team being a private spy firm.
I could live with Chuck having to spy without the intersect.
But Morgan being the intersect just jumped the shark tank. Do I take the red pill and watch season 5 or the blue pill and quit now.

  194. Maybe I'm weird, but I loved the cliffy - can't wait to see what they do with it next series.
I pretty much cried the whole way through the episode, the wedding was beautifully done.
The only problem I had was: Why didn't Sarah wear her "perfect" dress?

  195. Even though someone is bound to say, "the ratings don't matter anymore", I'm still curious.

It's nice to see Chuck get a 1.5 for the finale in the preliminary numbers. I'll give some credit to last week's good cliffhanger for that and, perhaps*, NBC's willingness to promote the wedding. It was a tough night competitively with both House and HIMYM having good nights.

    * because I don't know how many times their promo actually ran and in what shows.

    ReplyDelete
  196. Without the final "twist" i would rate the episode 95, really loved it, like the idea of freelance spies, even posted a while back i would like to see something like that. But with "Morgan twist" the rating goes down to 85...i really really disliked it and will be sorely disapointed if they move Morgan to front and center of the story next season.

  199. Magnus,

you really are the god of this fandom... All over the net people are gushing over the last episode, but around here there is like 90% negative comments about Morgan intersecting. Just because you decided not to rate the cliffhanger, one that you didn't even dislike completely, but because you had issues with the dialogue. Would be interesting to see how these comments were if you had hyped the ending... I seriously hope you have fun with your little experiment you are doing on us, but too that you do realize how much "power" you have and how your view influences people, so please be responsible with it...

I think i understand your reasons for grading the cliffhanger the way you did. As far as twists to the story go, they have done some pretty amazing ones in this show. But for me, this one feels far from being up to par with these. But all in all i'm pretty indifferent about Morgan being the Intersect. The Intersect always was a plot device and so is Morgan having one. I have faith in the writers that they won't overuse it to the point where it becomes annoying. But in a way i'm looking forward to it too, because one of the reasons i really enjoy this show is its silliness, and with that scenario the really have a lot of potential for silly stuff to happen.

Besides that i'm really happy with where we are at now. In a way we are in a similar position like at the end of season 3. They are on their own, they have a mystery to solve and the means to do it. At the end of season 3 i so much hoped that Sarah and Casey would leave the agency and join Chuck in starting some sort of freelance security company operating out of Orion's secret bunker. They could have done some work like the "Trace Cell Mission" in Tic Tac, fool proofing security for banks, companies and maybe even the CIA (keep Beckman around?). And besides that secretly work on their own projects and side missions. I'm thinking stuff along the line of Sneakers or maybe with a little stretch even the Ocean's Gang. That would be a good platform to show off their different abilities. But unfortunately by about ten minutes of the first episode of season 4 they reset everything back to the status quo. So I really hope that this time they go through with it.

It would be nice to hear, on a scale from 1 to 10, how you would grade not the "cliffhanger" but the potential, this new setup for the final season has in your opinion? Also i would be intrigued to learn which scene in "last details" you think was the one that made you think, it could make the ending work a little better? Was it the "imperial march" scene? I tried to figure it out but couldn't...

There are two things i'm still not sure what to make of it... When Sarah is in the ice-tub she says "don't worry we're already further than that". Does she refer to that they are already at the "till death do us part" point, or is there something else? And why does Decker laugh when Chuck talks about how his father was killed? Is there a remote chance he's not actually dead?

    Boris

PS: - "By season's end, Chuck will pretty much solidify his desire to be a Buy Moron forever." - Expected something completely different, so that was really a nice one LOL

PPS: What can we do to save the show, get a full season order and a season 6??? Sorry, couldn't resist that one

    ReplyDelete
  200. Boris, you must be very selectively reading comments elsewhere because I have seen negative comments about Morgan being the Intersect all over the place. And if I had as much power as you seem to think I do, then why am I not filthy rich from this "experiment" yet? HMMMMMMM?!
