CHUCK RENEWED FOR A 4TH SEASON!

Yep.  It is true.  In case you didn't know.

It is a 13-episode order... reportedly returning in the fall (September).  If anything changes, I might post it here.  Shrug.

WOOHOO!

  1. TVBT#'s was saying yesterday that it's a fall 13 with a back 9 option if a new show or 2 flops.... Do you remember if season 2 was a full 22 order? or was it an excersized option by the network early in the proccess? Also, where did you get your art of animated Casey, Sarah, Chuck looking up? Can I get that somewhere?

  3. I'd be lying if I said it was not big deal. Like, OMG another season for Chuck and Sarah to make sweet love! *expels crazy shipper tendencies* I mean, expected and all.

  4. Season 1 was 13+9 that never got to the +9 because of the writers strike. Season 2 was 13+9 but got the +9 after shooting six episodes when NBC was super impressed by what they saw. Season 3 was 13 and then got 6 while they were shooting episode 9 when they decided to bring it back early. So, CHUCK has never gotten a 22 episode order right out of the gate.

  5. Wooohooo, time to open up the champagne! Now we can all finally enjoy the last few episodes and when that "To be continued" pops up at the end of ep 19, we can be confident that yup, it will be continued!

We all deserve a pat on the back. I'll keep my comments to myself to all the naysayers who said this show should be canceled. NBC has spoken for me!

There's nothing wrong with pessimism. In fact, it helps get people mobilized.

IMO, it's better to be pessimistic and mobilize your efforts then to be optimistic and get screwed. I've seen far too many "Save our show" efforts start AFTER a show's been canceled and that's the worst time to start.

I'm super pleased at the news and it's even better that I was expecting the worst.

  7. Diane, which is why I pushed for the renewal effort last year to start BEFORE it was canceled. Others in the fan base did not thing we needed to do anything until we knew for sure. And we saw what happened to those shows canceled whose fan bases tried to get them renewed. Failure. You have to be proactive. Eye on the prize at all times.

    I don't care about a 22-episode order as much as I care about season 5. :)

  8. Diane, I think that pessimism can be good. I was referring to those people who have watched maybe 1 or 2 episodes and have made their opinion based on that.

I, like I'm sure everyone who reads this blog, is a die-hard Chuck fan so when people who have only watched 1 or 2 episodes are calling for it to be canceled it gets a little upsetting to me. This show isn't for everyone, but how can they basically ignore all the loyal fans the show has without wondering, "Hey, maybe there is something there after all. Otherwise why would the show still be on the air."

This is coming from someone who drives at 80 mph to get home to catch the second half of the show and then re-watches on Hulu the next morning. :-)

  9. Yeah, if you just watch one or two episodes, you will probably not get why we LOVE the show so much. I truly think the best way to "get it" is to watch from the pilot until the end of season 3. Every single person I have shown CHUCK to has become a hardcore fan. We just need to get them to watch... and then we have them hooked.

  10. I'm hoping they extend to nine at the most. But yay I'm so happy

Very interesting - Chuck comes in the top 25.

  12. I'm not sure if the Pilot is the best place to start with introducing them to Chuck, becuase the beginning of season 1 isn't really the show at its best (I seldom watch those early episodes). I like to show people First Date and Best Friend to show them how great the show can be, then they can start from season 1.

  13. Gwindor, you can never expect that people will react to the show the way you do, or did. It is a whole process. Start them with season 1 and promise them beer, or food, or sex or something to keep them watching.

  14. Now i will enjoy the next episode of Chuck without stress and fear of cancellation!!!!
Remember Chuck vs the living dead is written by the writing team of Rafe Judkins and Lauren LeFranc which its gonna be an awesome episode!

  15. Yeah, Rafe & Lauren are the new Ali Adler. Guaranteed awesomeness. :) From what I have been told, the episode lives up to their standard.

  16. Another season is great news. I have lent out season 1 to several people they all fell in love with it and wanted to watch season 2. Season one is the hook season 2 lands them. There is a great interview out with Rafe & Lauren it is good to hear two writers who also love Chuck. They need to Change the Name to Chuck and Sarah like in Morgans dream. ZD

  17. Losing Ali Adler is a bit of blow...but the show will go on. I'm ready to spend my money on a season 3 Dvd set and posters and merch from NBC. If everyone takes that approach, there's no limit to how far the show can go. As hardcore fans of the show (and I do consider myself a hardcore fan), we are NBC's must effective promotional team. I wore Chuck t-shirts for 10 days straight and got asked about them all the time. People still don't know about the show. It starts now, introducing people to the show. I loaned out my season 1 and 2 dvd sets to friends and got them hooked immediately. My summer will consist of harvesting new recruits into the Chuck army. And I'm pumped about it too!

  18. I am very bummed out about the Ali Adler situation and... well, I will talk about it on the podcast. But I blame NBC for dragging their feet. WB asked NBC weeks ago to speed up the process because they were likely to lose writers on CHUCK and NBC didn't budge (even though they pretty much knew they were renewing). So, we lost Ali Adler and Matt Miller. Grrrr.

  19. Losing Ali Adler sucks big time. But we hit the jackpot with Judkins and LeFranc. Do you know how the contracts work with writers? Are they signed on for season 4 ?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Well, hopefully those two stick around. I think we have an excellent writing team for next season... provided we don't lose anyone else.

  21. Would you anticipate more EP's written by Fed/Swz? [and current writers ]
Or would they try to bring in new staff?

Sounds like Fedak has already plotted a course for Season 4...
I hope that creative differences in opinion regarding characters/plot was not a factor in AA deciding to move on...

  22. I am sooooo gald Chuck has another season I bet everybody from the cast to the crew to anybody that has something to do with chuck is happy and as one fan to another I hope the people that did the flash mob do another showing how much they are happy for chuck being around for another season

  23. Anonymous, if that even is your name, I would not anticipate more episodes written by Schwedak. They still have a very strong writing staff. Hell, maybe we get lucky and Rafe and Lauren write every episode. ;)

  24. As a huge sports fan, the only 4 shows that I follow religiously are Chuck, Family Guy, Lost and the Office. While I realize none of these are ratings monsters, I more often than not feel like these shows are making me do something I need (to laugh, to cry, to shake cobwebs from brain) and feel no shame for loving any of them.
That being said, Magnus, do you think NBC will ever give a WB production like "Chuck" a shot at a different night on their schedule. We all realize Chuck will never reach American Idol popularity at 8 p.m. on Monday. I would just like to see Strahovski vs. Margulies (just an example) and see if I am wrong or if America is missing out on something special.

  25. We will find out in 2-days (or less) where CHUCK will end up on the schedule in season 4.

  26. It's sad losing Ali, but I think she had an opportunity that she just couldn't pass up. I think Judkins and LeFranc will be able to step into her shoes though.

    Woohoooo! Season 4!!!!

  27. It should be interesting to see who they add to the writing staff. With the departure of Rosenbaum, Miller, Adler, and one more to be announced (Klemmer?) we lost the writers who wrote or worked on 8 out of 13 episodes (assuming Klemmer leaves.) If I lost over 50% of my staff, I would be concerned going into season.

We are left with Fedak, Schwartz (part-time), LeFranc & Judkins, Borrow, and Denby, outside of Schwartz & Fedak, only Borrow has a history with the show. The writing improved over the past 3 seasons, and I hope it keeps getting better with the new writers they bring on board.

Yeah heard now that Klemmer has left.
