TV Line Talks to Yvonne Strahovski About CHUCK Finale

Yvonne Strahovski Surprised By Chuck's Series Finale: 'It's Satisfying, But Almost Tragic'

Funnily enough, her reaction is much like mine when I first heard about it.

  2. But I've been talking about this for weeks. It is not what I think a lot of people might have expected. They aren't going to spend 2-hours, or even one hour, with the perfect moment for every character. But somehow they are squeezing in A TON of stuff.

And yes, it is going to be very, very sad. Which is why I am not going to the NYC finale party. Because I plan on crying alone... like I do every night.

  3. Works for me.

My wish for these last episodes: To be left wanting more. In my mind, that's not compatible with all sweetness and light through to the end. I'd like a happy ending, but I want them to have to work for it.

  4. Commence shrieking and melodrama. OMG NOOO CHUCK AND SARAH ARE GOING TO BREAK UP!!11one!!1!

  5. Break up? They'll be lucky to SURVIVE!

  6. Please. Shaw will kill Chuck and Sarah will run away with him to have his babies.

No offense, but you starting to become very very annoying. :)

    ReplyDelete
  8. Why is it people say "No offense" and then still say something about as rudely as possible?

Chip, to each their own. If you don't like me being sarcastic, feel free to ignore my comments.

I am looking forward to seeing what they come up with, since they've done a pretty good job keeping things under wraps for the finale.

Considering we're so often spoiled for the major stuff in episodes weeks or sometimes even months in advance, it's a nice thing to be surprised in this case.

Granted, they've got two and a half weeks to spill the beans but I really hope they won't.

  9. "But somehow they are squeezing in A TON of stuff."

I hate that they always do this. Why have filler episodes during the season and then always rush, rush, rush during the finale?

    ReplyDelete
  10. They tend to do full of stuff episodes well. It's when they try to make episodes seem bigger when they fall on their face a bit. Like pulling out some contrived bullpoop like in Baby.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I find both to be hit or miss. My problem with the stuffed episodes is there is no reason for it. They could use the episodes leading up to their finales better than they do, but the writers seem to be so in love with twists and movie-like feels to the finale that it makes the story suffer. At least for me.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I usually associate "jam packed" storytelling with a sort of narrative ADD where nothing and nobody is well served, but you're probably right in this case, DR. The top episodes (Colonel, Santa Claus, etc.) are ones with a lot of content and generally several clearly drawn plots that tend to dovetail.

The notoriously bad ones (Muuurder, Business Trip, etc.) take a thin premise, surround it with largely irrelevant subplots, and stretch it out to an hour.

I do agree with Sue that sometimes I wish the narrative pacing could have been a bit more even, though. In my head, spreading out some of those beats a bit more might have led to fewer lousy episodes.

Granted, it's hard to say without being privy to the discussion in the writers' room. And then there's the argument of whether that might have made the fantastic episodes less great in favor of perhaps making the bad ones suck less.

Can't have it all. At the end of the day I'd probably rather have "Colonel" and suffer through "Baby" than have them both have been just middling episodes.

  13. Cor, I think it is because Fedak gets more involved in those scripts and so he cares more. The BS episodes where they are just messing about, like shipper episodes, they couldn't care less.

    ReplyDelete
  14. And that is why the show ranges from really good to mess. They can't be bothered to care about the in-between, which has held this show back just as sure as anythig else has.

    ReplyDelete
  15. DR, just checked the Wiki and you've got a point. Fedak tends to do the premieres and finales. I haven't loved the s3-5 premieres mostly because they spent so much of them dealing with the corners they got boxed into with the previous "series finale" cliffhangers.

But yes, Fedak knows how to deliver on a finale. I'd rank all his finale episodes as pretty strong.

I will be interested to see if the trend of the first of the two final episodes being the stronger continues, though. It wouldn't surprise me, since there's probably more freedom in the ability to ratchet up the tension in the penultimate episode than in the final one where you have to have the resolution.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm sad now. Doesn't look like I'll be getting the ending I wanted :( Oh well.

To be honest I just wanted Chuck/Sarah in that house at the end with their family. I'm totally scraping that now.

    ReplyDelete
  17. No worries, we get quiet moments too. Mind you, the stuff I have heard I thought was all in 5.13 but I'm told that info is about 5.12 and 5.13 so... it is not as crazy as I thought.

    ReplyDelete
  18. As long as the finale doesn't resemble fan fiction, I'm happy.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I do like that she mentions it foucses on Chuck & Sarah's love story.

I wonder where the tragic part fits in.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The happy ending probably resembles fan fic, the lead up to it, most likely won't.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Just please tell me that the finale doesn't start with like a " 2 days ago " or something like that . I can't stand that plot device .

    ReplyDelete
  22. ...or end with those "two years later" fast forwards.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think Chuck and Sarah are going to break up. I heard something from another source through the A.V. Club.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh I love those years later fast forwards. It's cliche and fanfic but who cares. I like being able to see where the characters I love are (though it also depends on the show, some shows it's better to imagine instead of see). For this show I'll take a fast forward. I wouldn't have wanted a flash forward before but since they've introduced certain discussions this season (the house, talk of family for CS, CS wanting a life outside of being spies, Casey wanting more) it makes sense to have a flashforwad.

Razorback on paper from what you do know, did you like the finale?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I went from feeling little anticipation for the end--because we have so little information--to being ultra-excited just from reading Yvonne's comments.

The last thing I wanted was a predictable ending. I disagree with Jim, though. I don't want to have an ending that leaves me wanting more. I want an ending like a good dinner where you say "no" to dessert because dinner filled you up so damn good.

BSG had an ending like that. All the great endings are like that.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Since Casey never seems truly satisfied unless he's involved with the spy life in some capacity, I could see him being the one to die. I also predict that Chuck and Sarah will fake their deaths and begin a new life with new identities. I'm way off, aren't I?

  27. Since Jeff is super smart now . I bet $1000 costa gravan pesos that Jeff sacrifices himself somehow , like being trapped in a room with a bomb or some type of scenario . Lester will get jealous and find someway to join him and they do a Jeffster performance in a closing montage type thingy - then they die . Everybody else lives apply ever after . The END. lol

    ReplyDelete
  28. "I disagree with Jim, though."

    (Just kidding)

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  29. On paper, I love the final moments of the finale. But that's on paper. The final two episodes sound like they could be great but I am apprehensive based on Baby being such a massive piece of poo-cake in so many respects.

    ReplyDelete
  30. But wasn't the major issue with Baby that it pooped on the show's established canon? If you haven't heard about the final eps doing that, and if what you have heard is executed well (acting, direction ect) it shouldn't be bad like Baby (not that I hated Baby mind you).

    ReplyDelete
  31. I haven't heard any of those things... I haven't NOT heard any of those things either.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You claim not to be scared of anyone who worked on Chuck. So prove it and post a big spoiler that actually means something.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but I can't imagine Fedak writing something like "Baby" even though as showrunner he technically was in charge and approved it.

I just can't imagine that script coming out of his laptop.

There's enough people out on the interweb fretting. I'm not going to be one of them.

    ReplyDelete
  34. "You claim not to be scared of anyone who worked on Chuck. So prove it and post a big spoiler that actually means something."

    Got to love these trolls.

I've never said any such thing. And I will never give out a big spoiler for ANY show. I consider it highly disrespectful to do so. It's not my place unless Fedak or Schwartz tell me to do it. And even then, I probably wouldn't.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The only fretting I'm doing is the part where Yvonne expected certain things and it didn't happen. It just sounds like she wasn't that thrilled with the finale. Though she's probably referring to what most of us thought the finale would be and that's most of it dedicated to good bye character moments without so much action and drama.

    ReplyDelete
  36. "It just sounds like she wasn't that thrilled with the finale."

I didn't get that sense in the slightest.

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  37. Jim, it was obvious she hated it and regrets all 91 episodes now. COME ON!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I was the one who wrote that about Yvonne and the finale. I probably read too much into it, and let my own worry for the finale influence how I read her words. I just want a great finale for my favorite show. Sue me.

    ReplyDelete
  39. "Sue me."

Give me your name and address and I will.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I am going to cast a spell of foresight...

In order to save Sarah, or the world, or something. Chuck will download the Intersect 3.0 (The writers on this show LOVE to repeat themselves, so this will repeat the epic moment in Chuck vs. the Ring)

He will know going in, that this intersect cannot be removed, ever. So when he does it, he is stuck as a spy for the rest of his life.

That is the "almost tragic part"

    Just call me "Carnac"

    ReplyDelete
  44. I doubt CS will break up after getting married and talking about children and quiting the spy life. it wouldn't make any sense confirming the writers pay no attention. them dying on the other hand is highly plausible. lol

    ReplyDelete
  45. " I want an ending like a good dinner where you say "no" to dessert because dinner filled you up so damn good."
I couldn't have said it better myself! (not a manner of speaking, I really couldn't...)
But I am a simple guy, I am confident that I will be satisfied... :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. What ever happens in the finale doesn't matter to me . But it will be an
EPIC FAIL if at the end when everybody is hunky dory that there is no HOLOGRAPHIC images of BRYCE and Papa B exchanging smirks with Chuck and Sarah . EPIC FAIL !!!!!!!!!

    lol

    ReplyDelete
  47. She does use the word "slightly" tragic so whatever it is can't be THAT tragic.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Except in Australia, the phrase "slightly tragic" means "horrendously painful."

    ReplyDelete
  49. Magnus, does the "horrendous pain" only happen in 412-413 or does it start earlier? Obviously, I know you won't answer that if it gives too much away.

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  50. Just go watch 412 and 413 right now to find out.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hey, didn't season 3 premiere exactly 2 years ago? Happy memories! :)

And on topic.. almost tragic.. hmm, maybe someone like Casey has a tragic accident and almost dies but instead he loses a leg? It's bad but not too bad. I'm pretty sure Verbanski would still take him.

Chuck and Sarah dying would be very interesting too. I just want something more original and shocking than just them getting all domestic and having intersected babies, lol.

    S.

    ReplyDelete
  52. She is a pro... I think I would have said pretty much the same thing. :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Something is taken away from Chuck [played by Zachary Levi] and Sarah, and in that sense it becomes slightly sort of sad and tragic.

That's not good. Some are speculating miscarriage or them being unable to have biological children. Maybe that's why Molly was so randomly introduced, they adopt her in the end?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Maybe Chuck loses hist P.A.N.T.S.

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  55. Is the last two episodes ever really the right time to explore tragedy for Chuck & Sarah? God I hope they don't fu*k it up.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Is this like Baby where some are going to assume the absolute worst and it was nothing like that?

"I think audiences will be sitting on the edge of their seats wondering how this is going to get resolved"
I can't see it being pregnancy related because why would the audience be on their edge of their seat for it to be resolved? There's nothing to resolve about a miscarriage (or not being able to ahave kids) because in both situations they can still have kids in future. So unless the episodes skip ahead and Chuck & Sarah's child is kidnapped it sounds like it's something else though what could be taken away from them that is considered tragic I don't know.

A death would be tragic but also technically really wouldn't lead to exploring the Chuck & Sarah love story as Yvonne hints (unless it's a miscarriage).

Hmm what else, Chuck has amnesia and forgets Sarah?

    ReplyDelete
  57. That kinda fits the clues and Yvonne's reaction, Anon. Robert the Bruce goes to deintersect Chuck permanently (maybe he got it back?) and he ends up losing the last five years worth of memories. Show ends with Sarah getting him to fall in love with her again.

Although, that sounds REALLY tragic and not just slightly tragic...

    ReplyDelete
  58. maybe in the end Chuck regains all his lost memories?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Eccch. I really hope they don't go the "Chuck has amnesia that will be cured by Sarah's love" route. We already had that and it was called "vs Phase Three".

Tongue firmly in cheek answer to the "slightly tragic" loss? They lose their dream house because the realtor absolutely refuses to sell to a couple of crazy vandals. ;)

Real answer? I'm declining to speculate too much since I'm enjoying the surprise of it.
    Cor

    ReplyDelete
  60. We are way off base aren't we? LOL

Well Razorback did say we would all be satisfied with the finale and Yvonne said it as well so no matter what this tragedy is, I'm sure by the end of the show we'll all still be happy in one way or the other. But if it is them not being able to have biological children, that will be extremely sad and even if they do adopt in the end, I'll still be sad for them.

    ReplyDelete
  61. So long as they don't pull the fake-out where they have Chuck wake up the morning of his 27th(?) birthday all ready for Ellie's party of awkward misery, and telling Morgan he just had this CRAZY dream involving spies, I'm sure I'll enjoy the finale.

    Cor

    ReplyDelete
  62. Yvonne Strahovski to get the scoop on his character, Nicholas Quinn, a former CIA agent-turned-mercenary. "He takes something away from Chuck and Sarah, and it may not necessarily be something physical." For a guy who used to have a supercomputer in his brain, this could be really bad news.

Yvonne said the above also in an interview. So nothing physical well that eliminates a miscarriage since a baby is physical. That kinda also eliminates a death. What's considered not physical? Their love for each other? Maybe Chuck does get amnesia afterall.

    ReplyDelete
  63. He takes away Chuck and Sarah’s ability to procreate and since they can’t have sex anymore Sarah moves on to Shaw or Cole. That’s it isn’t it.

    ReplyDelete
  64. "He takes away Chuck and Sarah’s ability to procreate and since they can’t have sex anymore"

Anymore? Wait. They've had sex recently?

    "Teehee.... *giggle*"

    diabolical.

    ReplyDelete
  65. "Teehee.... *giggle*"

    diabolical.

What your evil giggling? You think the spec is evil? Your laughing at the spec? I don't speak Razorback.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I'm entertained by it. It goes to something I said recently. But I can't clarify it right now.

    Speculate away.

I will give you all a kind of hint just to give you more to speculate:

The show may be named CHUCK...

And that's all you get. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Chuck "dies" but not really. He just assumes a new identity. Allowing him and Sarah to go off somewhere and live a spy free life with their 48 perfect looking babies.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Razorback I think you're so happy because you know everything about final episodes... and this is torture for us...we know nothing...

    ReplyDelete
  69. You only have to wait 16 days to find out.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Thank goodness it's only 16 days. The torture part is thinking up all the worst possible case scenarios - even the ones you know are ludricous.

    ReplyDelete
  71. It's not torture for me. I've been told in the past exactly what was going to happen and speculating a few hints at a time is a whole lot more fun.

The problem I'm seeing is that a lot of people have very specific "wants" for what they need to see in the last episode. I've even seen people talk about that stupid house being a "must see" at the end. Ugggh.

I think Magnus warned us about that long ago.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I thougt a lot of things about final episodes but When I write that things, nobody will say: You're right or wrong...

    ReplyDelete
  73. I think its rather funny that the fandom is stuck on this idea of a miscarriage.. has anyone watched this show over the past 5 seasons??

    JT

    ReplyDelete
  74. I have to confess that I love this part of a show like Chuck and this fandom. I love reading the crazy speculation, the smart speculation, the rants, even the crazy trolls so I'm glad I get to experience that one last time going into these final episodes.

Right now I'm definitely leaning towards something to do with Chuck's memory and the Intersect. Way back at the beginning of this season I had thought about Chuck willingly putting the messed up Morgansect Intersect into his own head, but then shelved it when they just removed it.It could be kind of tragic but heartfelt for him to rely on everyone else to remind him of who he really is, especially if he went in knowing what the consequences were when he did it.

    ReplyDelete
  75. i think the loss is either the buy more/carmichael industries. or that ugly ass house that they want

    ReplyDelete
  76. If Sarah gets the Intersect, I swear to god...

    ReplyDelete
  77. ...she would be the best intersect ever!

    ReplyDelete
  78. "I think its rather funny that the fandom is stuck on this idea of a miscarriage.. has anyone watched this show over the past 5 seasons??"

It always amazes me how wrong people who claim to be fans are about the characters and the show, over and over and over.

    ReplyDelete
  79. As long as Morgan or Jeffster don't get the Intersect.....

DR, I may not agree with you all the time, but you always entertain! ;) thanks

    S.

    ReplyDelete
  80. People seem to latch onto the most arbitrary things (Sarah has to be pregnant before the finale, they have to get the house with the red door, etc.) and work on them like a terrier on a chew toy. Then, when those things don't come to pass they've worked themselves into enough of a lather that they can't enjoy the good stuff that actually happens. Oh well, only a few more weeks and everyone can finally shut up about all of this :)

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  81. Absolutely true, Jim.

Except for the part about shutting up. There are some endings, e.g. Lost, The Sopranos, that people never shut up about.

It seems its the shows that have pretty good endings that people don't constantly talk about.

I do hope that Chuck has the latter and not the former. But, we won't know for 16 days.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I worded that incorrectly. Didn't mean to imply that I think Lost and Sopranos had bad endings. They had endings that people debate about.

Some people really liked them. Others hated them.

But, then there are endings like last year's "Friday Night Lights" that everybody that I know of liked, but, afterwards, there is little else to talk about. You move on quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Some Chuck fans will never stop discussing season 3.. that brings a smile to my face. :D

Wouldn't oppose to the big finale to have some of that. I want people to talk about it, to have some type of impact.

    S.

    ReplyDelete
  84. BTW--
I don't know how many people listen to Sepinwall and Feinberg's "Firewall and Iceberg" podcast, but they are planning an "all Chuck" podcast and are taking questions. You have to email them with "Chuck Podcast" in the title. I don't have a URL, but I'm sure you are adept at Google if you are interested.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Sepinwall also tweeted earlier this week that he had completed an interview with Schartz & Fedak about Chuck that he would publish the week of the finale. I think he said it would look at the series as a whole.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Also Google Talks is going to have a chat with Fedak and Schwartz, send in your questions here: http://www.youtube.com/atgoogletalks

    ReplyDelete
  87. Oddly, no one has asked the "why no sexytime" question, that I've seen.

    ReplyDelete
  88. People seem to latch onto the most arbitrary things (Sarah has to be pregnant before the finale, they have to get the house with the red door, etc.) and work on them like a terrier on a chew toy.

The thing is though, the show didn't make them arbitrary. They introdued the house plot early on in the season and keep going back to it and now they've showed how much Chuck & Sarah want kids and that damn house. I honestly wouldn't have cared that much if I had seen Chuck & Sarah with kids or living in that house, but since the show has made it a point to show how much those things mean to Chuck & Sarah and since I love those two sexless but adroable love birds I want them to reach those dreams. So I can udnerstand why the fans are worried and latching on to the house/kids, its because the show has made them important to Chuch/Sarah's journey.

    ReplyDelete
  89. How can they have kids when THEY NEVER HAVE SEX?!

    ReplyDelete
  90. "How can they have kids when THEY NEVER HAVE SEX?!"

What?! But they do it like rabbits!! :D

Seriously, looks like they've been married for many years now. I've been married for over 10 years and even our kisses are hotter! lol

    S.

    ReplyDelete
  91. The "non-physical thing" that is taken away might as well be their relationship: like, one of them does something "tragic" without the other knowing, the villain reveals the misdeed, they pass an hard time, but at the end love prevails, happy ending and tra la la...
Just as they did before, but seriously, this time...
Does it makes sense? Not too much, but not less than a miscarriage...

    ReplyDelete
  92. Yes we get it, as been stated over 1 million times Chuck/Sarah don't have kids.

Well they can turn off the lights and close their eyes and try and do it once in the missionary position as quickly as possible with no foreplay because I've heard nothing all season but how much they want a normal life with kids, so if the show has said this is what they want well nothing should stop them.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Yes we get it, as been stated over 1 million times ****Chuck/Sarah don't have kids***.

***Meant Chuck & Sarah don't have SEX.

    ReplyDelete
  94. If I was married to a hot chick for 20 years, I'd still make out with her every day!

    ReplyDelete
  95. I think its rather funny that the fandom is stuck on this idea of a miscarriage.. has anyone watched this show over the past 5 seasons??

Yep stuck on miscarriage and infertility. It's like last season with the wedding and if that would happen.

I don't blame those who want to see it happen because they just want (well I want) Chuck & Sarah to get everything that makes them happy but I'm ready to sit back and just enjoy the finale, whatever happens.

    ReplyDelete
  96. If I was married to a hot chick for 20 years, I'd still make out with her every day!

Chuck always seemed to prefer brunettes, maybe blonde Sarah just doesn’t do it for him. Maybe she could dye her hair to spice up their sex life.

    ReplyDelete
  97. "Chuck always seemed to prefer brunettes, maybe blonde Sarah just doesn’t do it for him. Maybe she could dye her hair to spice up their sex life."

Hmm, you have a point! I really liked his chemistry with all the other girl, btw, especially Jill. That bed scene was the hottest!

Chuck and Sarah seem more like a Dysney couple. ;)

    S.

    S.

    ReplyDelete
  98. That happens on most shows, the main couple get less sexy time compared to when they were single and doing it with other people. Ha.

The finale says that Chuck has to protect all he loves or something along those lines so whatever is taken away from him and Sarah has to threaten that. They want to leave the spy life and be normal, so maybe something is taken away that hinders that goal.

So I'm going with something connected to Chuck's brain as well.

    ReplyDelete
  99. In the new Chuck clip for Friday's ep Sarah says *spoiler alert* she wants to quit the spy life and Chuck says funnily that theyc an't go shooting the paper boy, lol.

So yeah, now I'm sure whatever it is stops Chuck and Sarah quitting. I'm now also sure that all this lead up has to be an ending where Chuck and Sarah do end up getting that normal life OR if Fedak throws a last minute wench that keeps them in the spy game even in the end and that's the suprising end.

You know even if Chuck/Sarah's ending includes them quitting for good, I still want to see them with jobs that keep them professionally fulfilled. I mean I just can't picture Sarah as a housewife 24/7. There always has to be some kind of adventure element to their lives.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Anonymous--
The the clip gives a pretty good idea of what they envision the new company mission to be. It actually makes sense.

The preview for the next ep and synopsis for the episode describes why they don't quit immediately.

    ReplyDelete
  101. "OR if Fedak throws a last minute wench"

    Jill? :D

    ReplyDelete
  102. Sarah has the intersect, that could be her secret. The press release did say harrowing mission and I think that's why people are saying miscarraige. But I'm going with intersect. Though why that would be a big deal is beyond me since everyone and their mama has had it at some point. Unless the intersect is also affecting her the way it did Morgan.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Chuck vs Sarah. The intersect turns her against him. Okay now I'm reaching.

    ReplyDelete
  104. "Chuck vs Sarah. The intersect turns her against him. Okay now I'm reaching."

    OMG! YOU FIGURED IT OUT!

    ReplyDelete
  105. OMG! YOU FIGURED IT OUT!

LIAR! LOL. You would have not said so if I did, or erased my comment.

“I hope that NBC isn’t mad at me for promoting the final episode like that,” she said, laughing. “It might get people watching.”

Yvonne comment above. Smart cookie she is. It's certainly got people talking. Something this show needed. Plus it wouldn't be Chuck if the fans weren't stressing until the curtain call.

  107. Yvonne's been reading this site to get pointers.

  108. She's learnt well. Aren't you proud?

    ReplyDelete
  109. Hehehe... sure. Though, I am always proud of Yvonne. Well, except for that one video she did where she dressed up like Bieber.

    Oh, the horror!

    ReplyDelete
  110. Yvonne's doing a great job this week. I'm of the camp that if what's ahead doesn't get people stirred up, it's not worth it. I'm actually staying up for Kimmel even though I normally would be going to sleep.

Apparently, "Zachary Levi" has been trending tonight based on his appearance on the People's Choice Awards. When I examined the messages, a lot of them were about his hair and beard and whether they liked it.

Maybe Chuck should have grown that facial hair.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Horror indeed. Though you gotta give her points for having the guts to do that.

    ReplyDelete
  112. They should have had Yvonne doing a lot more press for the show early on. I know they probably didn't because she was so new to the industry but they missed out on that opportunity.

She now has to go out there and make a name for herself, apart from CHUCK, and this is that push. Her people know they need to get her out there.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I can only imagine if the sobe skin suit stuff was like 3 years ago not to mention the upcoming spread in the 2012 SI swimsuit would ave helped the ratings at all . So they wouldn't ave had to worry about getting cancelled every half season .

    ReplyDelete
  114. I think it all depends on how well I Frankenstein does if she stays around or maybe not. Usually it all depends on what roles they take after or during the series they are in. Look at Steve Carol. He got 90 year old virgin. I think Yvonne though and Zach as well will make it though. I know all the Chuck fans will follow them.

    ReplyDelete
  115. How crazy would it be if the last remaining Chuck eps skyrocketed in the rating. I know that a a slim chance but what if it did. NBC and who ever does the Chuck promotion stuff will be kicking themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  116. There is zero chance that the ratings will skyrocket or skydive or anything. They will likely stay right around where they are now no matter what.

But if the ratings suddenly skyrocketed, in some fanfic version of reality, that would be nuts and interesting. But like I said, no worries. It won't happen.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Well yeah i know. i was just doing a what if thing.

  118. Hi,
I just wanted to say thank you for your site. I read it, and have posted a handful of times. I found you to be funny, clever and most importantly, honest. I'll miss reading this site after Chuck is no more, but mainly, I'll miss your comments. You were always loyal to this show. Thanks for a great time. As a shipper, I'm one who wants the fanfic ending, but now I'm just going to hope for a satisfying one. Thanks again. It's been a pleasure reading you :)

  119. Just watched Yvonne on Kimmel & shook my head. Poise, grace, beauty, humor - why didn't Schwartz, & nbc take advantage of that? I get she was new to the industry, but damn, they missed it - just plain missed it.

Think I'm going to ask that in the YouTube interview questions.

    ReplyDelete
  120. She was really good on Kimmel. Plus, he was good with her.

She's also doing a great job promoting the finale in her various interviews around the web. I know some people are freaking out about what she's saying, but she's getting people talking and buzz is good.

    ReplyDelete
  121. She was nice in Kimmel

But Yvonne is to cute, shy and innocent for Hollywood. I Actualy realy suprised with this Sobe thing. Part of me is Happy part of me is Sad, and part of me is dissapointed, for a twisted reason, XD.
I guss no matter what she gonna do next, this was her reach of limit. Nothing is gonna be hotter than these photos , unless if she do some Hot sex scene with some nudity, but She won't. :)

But I wish the best for her. :)

    ReplyDelete
  122. I watched Yvonne on Jimmy Kimmel and was suprised that she went to do that shoot where the body painter saw like everything. That tells us that she is very confident and does not mind doing things that are racy or whatever. So that ends it once and for all...CHUCK could have had more sexiness but Fedak is a tool.

I have seen Zach do racy things on other projects that are not CHUCK. We have/had two actors that do not care about being naked or doing hotness but we had Fedak the moron.

Awesome! Looking forward to the finale.

  123. AdraiN'S

How do you know that Yvonne is now the better known actor? Zach has been doing these interviews on late night for years! He may have chosen not to do all these interviews and stuff like that because he has a reason that is his business. Zach maybe doing certain things at certain times as a setup for the future. Like when he did the nerd machine at comic con and he got friends to guest panel...that was for charity and it also got his company publicity. Maybe he is trying to advertise for his company now. Do not forget that Zach has a company, directs, acts, etc. Doing Chuck interviews may not be the only thing important and so he lets other people do it. In no way or form does that mean Yvonne is more important than Zach or Zach is more important that Yvonne. People have lives to balance and remarks like this are unfair and incorrect.

Well I guess, for half million dollar, it is not realy a big deal :) If the rumors are true, there was an telefon interview with her on the german RTL.

  125. "Well I guess, for half million dollar, it is not realy a big deal :) If the rumors are true, there was an telefon interview with her on the german RTL."

I don't understand what the problem here is. If the number is accurate (which is a big if given some random rumor), then she was paid what the market will bear. There's nothing illicit or underhanded about it. By non entertainment industry standards, I'm sure she was well paid for Chuck too, although probably nowhere near what she deserved compared with others in the industry.

None of this matters and bringing any of it up undermines one basic fact: she's a professional actor. Once she takes a role, she does what the role requires in whatever way the person running the production dictates. Period.

    Jim

    ReplyDelete
  126. Money is important but so is reputation, the fact is actors are not going to say we will not do something because word then spreads that they are difficult and Hollywood is a small place where rumours go quickly and it can tarnish a reputation. Besides what happens on Chuck is PG stuff anyway, I mean in FOD Sarah was laying on top of Chuck and they were both near birthday suit.

Whether they get paid half a million dollars or 60K...Actors do what they are told and when they are told.

This is a Fedak thing for sure, someone leaked that last season (I think it was Magnus) that a hot bedroom scene from the finale was shot and then suprise, suprise, suprise cut.

    Fedak, Fedak, Fedak!!!!!!!!

But nevermind...I guess we can leave it to our imaginations it one is inclined to do so :)

    ReplyDelete
  127. If you type into Google American Actor contracts they come up. If one reads it (a friend in the business read one and told me) it says that an actor is a obliged to do everything (including nudity) except sex. So every professional actor knows this when joining the industry and so it is not an issue.

    Fedak!

    ReplyDelete
  128. "You mean why did they used the better known actor to advertise for the show? this question is somehow not self explanatory? : )"

Hey, I take nothing away from the "better known actor" but always subscribe to the two is better than one rule.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Anyone who ever watched the Larry Sanders Show knows that it isn't entirely up to the actors or their publicists if they get booked on a talk show.

Sure, NBC may have had some pull with the NBC Late Night shows and WB may have had some pull with their talk shows, but the bookers at the shows themselves have some say in who gets on and who doesn't.

The late night shows are concerned about their ratings too, and would prefer the better known person. Zac also had a proven reputation of doing "good panel". But, even with him, most of his appearances were either on NBC or WB talk shows.

That Sobe photo shoot probably got the attention of Kimmel's bookers in a way just being the co-star on a competing network's show probably didn't. I can't remember Zac even getting on Kimmel--unless it was before I got into Chuck.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Actors are REQUIRED to do a certain amount of press. But sometimes they can't get booked. And the reason why Yvonne is getting this attention is because Sobe is an ADVERTISER. Guess what networks love?

    Advertisers. They pay the bills.

Very smart move by her people.

As for how much she got paid... she SHOULD get paid that much. Hell, more. Time to start dropping stupidity into the spam folder again?

    1. She has a different management team now than she did back during the first two seasons, I know that much. There is a story about her old handlers that I may have talked about before but I don't remember so I will keep it to myself for now. Let's just say that she is wayyyyy better off now.

  131. Switching gears slightly, has anyone ever actually tried this Sobe stuff. I don't mean the one Yvonne is advertising since that's new but any of it. I walk by it in the supermarket all the time and it never once occurred to me to try it. I may actually grab a bottle next time just to give it a shot.

Hey, look at that. Advertising works. Go figure.

  133. The Yvonne interview was good. Don't know if she will make it big, but I'm pretty sure she'll find more work; she's very pretty and is a fine actress. But you know, Hollywood isn't always fair. Lots of crap actors make it bigger and you wonder why. Mostly, I hope she's happy.

  134. Crappy male actors have a much easier time in the biz than crappy female actors... UNLESS... that female actor is young, dumb, and really attractive.

But once those ladies hit around 26, they burn out into obscurity.

  135. "I am not sure your rules apply to TV actors Magnus"

I love how you have now transformed yourself into the useless counterpoint.

It's true of ALL types of actors. Just because you can find a handful of actors who made it, that doesn't cover the vast number of TV actors who didn't.

  137. Hollywood is a very tough place. Very few make it big. You see them over and over in movies, many times playing themselves. And they aren't always the most talented. They just got lucky with a role that got them attention, or have great management. Most actors (men and women) just are lucky to find constant work doing what they love. That sounds good to me. As long as my fave actor is out there playing a good/meaty role in a quality project I'm happy.

  141. I adore Yvonne and will follow her career and support her. Even the first time I saw her in that god awful Aussie show Headland that I actually watched when it was on (I'm an Aussie), she stood out to me. Never have a bad word to say about her.

  142. I know some like the way Yvonne is promoting the finale and it sure has people talking, but I don't know when people ask if she likes the finale she says "it's not what she expected" and throws the word "tragedy" around a lot instead of saying it's great, the fans will love it ect. It might get people talking but it also has the fans worried too that the finale won't be so good. Maybe some won't watch live and prefer to wait and hear what happens before deciding to watch.

    HA!!!

Actually if i was to be honest I think Yvonne will get work of course but i not sure she ever get past being know as the girl from Chuck. I could be way off. If I Frankenstein takes off witch i doubt it will then maybe but i do not know. Does anyone know if Yvonne moving back to Aussie or staying in LA.

    1. It's funny that people are fretting over Zac. It's only been five weeks since they stopped filming and, in that time, he's hosted the VGA's, presented at the PCA's, and is featured in the Betty White special that airs next Monday. Those aren't acting gigs, but some people are acting like he's been sitting around waiting for his iphone to ring.

I have no doubt he is going to be doing something.

  146. Interested to see what plans Zac has for the Nerd Machine, I doubt just an internet community and a merchandise store are all they have in mind. Yes I know about the NerdHQ in Comic-con, but I believe that was mostly for charity so the only benefit for the business was the positive exposure in media.
