Giving the illusion that Sarah is dead, yet showing her alive at the bits of the next episode. Here's hoping she'll be alright.
Pretty good episode of Chuck, though. Better than last episode, even if we missed out on Mama Volkoff. Some real cute moments, and a couple hot moments for the Chuck/Sarah.
Ellie and her kiss on Jeff was just hilarious, though.
I always love the family stuff in the episodes - rehearsal dinner was nice with Jeff saving the day. I liked it overall, but will have to watch again. The promo did look good for the next episode, but we will just have to see how it all pans out. Thanks for sharing another season with us Magnus.
I know it doesnt matter that much... But at least NBC promoted the trailer for next week as the "Season Finale" Next episode is going to be pretty sweet. Chuck on a quest to save Sarah since she is usually the one that saves him. Cant wait for next monday, hopefully a season 5 pickup and a kickass season finale.
OMG! I totally loved this episode, for me the best of the season, but I guess next monday night episode is gonna be so much better. I had a feeling that something wrong was going to happen to Sarah but I wasn't prepared for that. Ellie kissing Jeff EPIC! Now I have to wait until next monday to watch the awesome finally, suffering and waiting for Sarah to be OK. Dame cliffhanger
Was a good episode but it was lame that they picked Sarah to be infetedf by that thing because for one how did they get her DNA?? should of been Morgan becuase of the blood from his arm in that room
I loved the references they made to star wars, terminator 2 and there was one more I just can't remember what movie. I loved Morgan's bad guy acting and the darth vader music before morgan went in. I didn't think sarah was going to be the one that was going down this episode but I am glad it wasn't chuck mom since chuck's dad is already dead.
Favorite Line of the night: "You guys go ahead, I'll catch up as soon as I get this guys pants off... (looks after realizing what he just said and sees chucks face)... Oh Shut Up!!!" I love Casey
If the test of a good episode is how many times I stop in the middle of it and rewind, this one was a 12. I think that's how many times I rewound. There were so many good moments/threads.
At random...
...the running theme of how Sarah doesn't know Chuck's movie references and how the Star Wars theme ran through it...
...Morgan's moments of heroism and Casey's almost fatherly protection of him...
...the running conflict between Chuck, Sarah, and Mary that intersected both their work lives and personal lives...
Even the thread about the special video worked out in the end with the surprise triumph of Jeff, of all people.
Add in a little romance between Chuck and Sarah and this may be one of my favorite episodes of the season.
I forgot to mention how cool it was for Chuck to defend Sarah's honor and punch out that guard for saying inappropriate things about her. No flash necessary.
Wow this was epicness at its best! Chuck doing back flips off the courtyard balcony; Mimosas; Chuck punching the guard for insulting Sarah; Sarah's "..everyone except YOUR MOTHER!", then Mama B's speech at the end; abundant Star Wars references! Loved it! Also, they must have been saving their entire musical budget for this episode- the combined Death Cab/Bright Eyes sequence at the rehearsal dinner practically had me in a puddle of emo/indie goo on my floor.
This episode was so incredibly awesome! And next week's seems even better. I really hope they make it to the altar, it would be a nice way to end the season (and the show? *fingers crossed for a 5th*). Anyway, I can't way for your podcast, it's gonna be great!
I wanna be the one to say the moments were Sarah is all happy and pretty in her wedding dress is part of a dream sequence so dont get your hopes up. -Matthew
Agreed with dkd btw I usually judge an episode by how many times I rewind scenes and/or how many times I quote it, and if that's the standard then this episode is a top ten!
i wonder if the wedding in the promo is a dream sequence - is that what you were referring to in your spoilers about sarah's dream wedding dress? Maddie
They might as well have just showed us the whole episode in that promo, Thanks NBC for ruining everything =( ...how can i be in suspense now? but still a great episode nonetheless. Italian reference (La Barba), breaking bad reference and of course Star Wars!!
Alot is editing for that promo I assume - almost looked like there were two wedding scenes. The one with them on the alter which I assume is from the dream and the other where they show everyone where you see brick walls. Who knows - can't wait! Good to see Carina and Zondra in bridesmaid dresses - hope they get decent screen time and not just a brief cameo.
Obviously the producers killed off the single character that kept bringing back male viewers week after week. It's only logical that they would do so. I mean, what better way to end the show than by killing the hottest (apologies to Hannah) female on the show. Clearly she has to die, because they've never pulled out a huge twist on the viewers...never EVER. Or, how about this. Everything will play out fine. Maybe *someone* will die. [WARNING: The above comment contains %100 sarcasm]
Was a good episode but it was lame that they picked Sarah to be infetedf by that thing because for one how did they get her DNA?? should of been Morgan becuase of the blood from his arm in that room
I don't think the promo ruined anything. I'm guessing the wedding scenes we see are just a dream sort of thing, and there may be a second ceremony with just friends/family.. maybe at the hospital? Hopefully it's not a 'at the deathbed' sort of wedding.
As far as other stuff goes.. the way they did the promo for 4x23 made us think that a car hit another car.. and that hurt someone Chuck cared about, so that wasn't ruined. They're pretty good at making *some* promos without ruining stuff.
Still loved the episode and super pumped for next week. Whether there's a S5 or not.. I'm gonna enjoy Chuck 4x24 as best I can.
Oh and as for why Sarah didn't immediately die.. we don't know whether the second Norseman is one made by the same scientist who did the first one or not, do we? I'm guessing maybe it was faulty, which is why it didn't carry the job out properly. That or the whole immediate medical attention thing.
Ha you were definitely right Magnus about the tone of this episode being WAAY different than I expected based on the preview. I was expecting to like the episode due to the high drama but instead I ended up loving it cause of the comedy. Morgan was HIGH-larious. He pretty much made the episode comedy-wise. The end was nice (before the bad part) and then when "the bad part" did happen, it lasted all of about 3 seconds before the ep was over (not that I was shocked by that).
I need to watch the ep again but maybe someone here can explain it ... what the h*ll does that DNA-scrambler-thingy do again?? I mean I know it picks its targets based on their DNA, but how does it kill them? Does it scramble their DNA or what? And how the h*ll could a doctor fix that? Lol.
Oh and to the person who said "it was lame that they picked Sarah to be infetedf by that thing because for one how did they get her DNA??" I think it would have been quite easy for them to get her DNA from a strand of her hair. They were in direct contact with her a couple times throughout the episode.
@wyndzorz alternately, maybe it doesnt work quite as well at longer ranges. The other uses of it in tonight's episode were at close range. Or, maybe it worked exactly the same, and the others couldve been saved with immediate medical attention, but its not like any of the others got that, so there's no way to know.
@maryploppins who knows how it works, probably not worth worrying about... its sci fi tech, and just a device for making what they want to happen happen. There are sonic weapons (they do mention the noise they hear) but they just cause pain, i dont believe there are any that kill, and of course there arent any that target dna.
Did they need to get Sarah's DNA? It seemed to me in the beginning like the weapon worked sorta like a GPS where it just scanned for different signals so Vivian could have picked anyone at the party. Obivously, she picked Sarah for maximum pain purposes on the part of Chuck. Also, it seems perfectly logical that Sarah wouldn't die immediately. I mean Morgan survived in the same room as that thing for quite a few minutes so its possible if they got her to a hospital quickly, which it seemed like, at the end that the miracle Dcotors Woodcomb could keep her from dying.
well unless the wedding they showed was just a dream or Chuck just imagining it (which seems more likely now) then ya NBC ruined it for me. They shouldn't have shown Sarah at all in this promo except for maybe just in the hospital room.
If Sarah didn't die at the end because of some sort of explanation like it couldn't do such and such to her due to her being pregnant or something . I'm going to be uber PO'd at the show and I might have a puppy shot lol . Sepinwall said on his blog that something in the preview was related to the cliffhanger . I don't know what it could be , just not a pregnancy please !
I'm fairly certain that the wedding at the beginning of the promo is a dream sequence.
However, at the end of the promo, when Chuck says "Oh, boy!" there is writing on the window of the car in the background which appears to be part of "Just Married" with hearts.
The second one seems to have more spoiler potential to me.
How they got Sarah's DNA is one of those plot points you can either choose to worry about or stop worrying about. In the end, the writers would have made it so Vivian could have gotten it through any logical means possible. So, harping on it just means you want to have a problem with it. Stop.
Beckman's line about not being invited to the wedding was awesome, can't believe noone mentioned it yet, and so was Chuck's opening scene rescuing Morgan from the balcony because a ladder would have just been silly. Sadly I fell for the Mama B feint at the end of the episode, but in my defense I thought Sarah was too hot too ever die. Looking forward to next weeks Season Finale before I have to ship back out to sea next weekend. Perfect timing.
Did anybody notice the Mask reference when mama B. was in Volkoff's vault? Really? :-) Now I wonder if the final cliffhanger isn't Sarah in a flat line at the end of the episode: and as Magnus said, nothing that they can't solve in five seconds at the beginning of season 5 (just in case...) P.S. Sarah's DNA was hidden in one of many holes in Chuck's plot: so, stop worrying about it, ok? LOL
true. its just an expression in greek. i mean. do u know anything. anyway i believe u know but w8 for the official announcement. so do u know when its going to come out?
You don't need to ask me if the show is going to be renewed. When I know AND can share it with you, you won't be wondering about it. Everyone will be talking about it.
did anyone else notice in the promo on the wedding scene that casey and awesome were the best men and was it just me or was morgan the priest? - if so, pretty sure its a dream sequence... Maddie
I think that was the best episode of the season it had everything comedy, romance, action, drama (no hotness but we are used to that so it dosen't matter :D) i really hope we get a season5 after watching this ep. it would be really bad if they cancel it. (p.s. u where totally right about the penultimate ep of every season being the best Magnus :D)
I think it is easier to write the penultimate episode because you don't have the pressure of paying things off. You can almost pay things off but still be satisfying.
Something else... you have any ideea if the pictures used in the "VideoMontage" where photoshoped or anything ? cause some of them are from earlier season like one particulary wich was from chuck versus The Seduction (2.2) And wich Montage you liked the best ? Lester's ?=))
yeah sarah being pregnant has shot up to the top of my list as the possible cliffhanger. I really don't see any spy twist that would suck but male viewers 18-34 would not be big friends of a pregnancy
You will understand my problem with the cliffhanger when you see it, unless you are easily impressed. If you are easily impressed, then you will come here and say "HOW COULD YOU POSSIBLY NOT LOVE THAT?!?!?!?"
As I have said before, even if I can grow to like what the cliffhanger means, or brings, it is the manner in which they decided to do it that I have a problem with and why it gets a zero from me.
What an amazing episode! Really didn't expect that kind of ending, but this shows that the season finale will be one hell of an episode! I also liked the fact the Morgan had his first "solo mision" and how Casey shot all that guys having only the camera vision. I can't believe Chuck is in risk of not having a 5th season with such quality episodes.
Hey Arsimo you have another link for the C&S montages ? cause i can't watch it on the nbc site (because i'm not from usa) so if it's put on youtube or something pls link it up :D About the cliffhanger .. if it's really a pregnacy that would make sense but i don't think it's the kind of thing you want in a show like chuck (if we didn't had hotness till now ... now it is deffinately doomed :)) ) that of course if they don't do a montage with Sarah breathfeeding(THAT's just sick!) =))))))))))))
So I guess no wedding.... Last night's episode was amazing times to times. My favourite funny moment was with Lester when he said What is this garbage? and sad one was the end of course. You keep telling us about the cliffhanger for a month, cannot wait to see what's happening and made you rate it 0/10;))
This is was a great Chuck episode that filled with the things everyone loves about Chuck! I personally choose to overlook the hoaky, green, and spinning DNA weapon.
Great episode - kept me awake way to long for my 5:00 am wake up call. Interesting seeing the variety of opinions about the episode across the web. The episode caused a surprising amount of rumination out there.
Will you be putting out a podcast tomorrow Magnus? Really looking forward to some more nuggets.
Obviously someone hasn't been listening to the podcast since Amrit and I talked about Sarah being downloaded and put into Chuck's brain in season 5. ;)
from spoilertv Elsewhere, NBC remained out of the competitive loop as a result of Chuck (#4L 2.8/ 5), The Event (#4: 2.8/ 4) and Law & Order: Los Angeles (#3: 3.6/ 6),
This was the best freaking episode of season 4, I swear sarah better not be dead O.O But considering she said on some type of gossip website? Im not to sure what it was that theres a good chance there will be a season 5 and if theres no she would be rather surprised. Meaning she will probably end up getting some type of cure or maybe alexi volkoff will kill him self for sarah? All just random things im thinking that might happen. I look forward to it!!! CHUCK FTW
It really seemed to me like this episode had just the right amount of the things that we all love about Chuck. At least the things that I really enjoy… - Chuck/Sarah moments - Morgan comedy - Casey action and grunting - Buy More crew craziness Really a quality episode. Instant classic status in my book.
Hell, anyone who'd followed the spoilers that were out knew sarah was going to be taken out. So i was surprised by how much effect that scene still managed to have, a credit to the writers and Zac\Yvonne.
Obviously to be taken with a huge grain of salt but on TVBTN, somebody named Pinker just reported that “Chuck has not been picked up for 2011-2012, SweDak were informed over the weekend. Sorry ”.
Don't know if this corresponds with what you have been hearing from your resource.
So chuck drops to a 1.3 according to tvbtn, but its one of the lowest % drops of the night for all networks (everyone took a hit... great weather right now might be a factor)
Event and LOLA get a 1.1 and 1.2 respectively, so chuck still won the night in that regard.
@vlad, where are you seeing this? Not seeing it in the comments for last night's ratings, so if it was posted there its been deleted, which might say something about the accuracy of that..
@vlad yeah, the comments section of tvbtn, in general, will just bring you frustration. I dont get why people openly cheer for Chuck (or other shows) to fail.
Also, magnus, does your source say snything about renewal? /s
@melwicker- look at across the board ratings. A bunch of shows dropped. A lot of good weather likely got a lot of people outside and away from their TVs last night.
Ultimately I'd expect to hear a leak about renewal cancellation at the end of the week. If we don't hear at the upfronts on Monday then thats actually probably not a bad sign as it means that negotiations/horse trading with WB are hopefully ongoing. I'm disappointed but totally not suprised by a 1.3 this week either. Still on pure numbers we'd be toast, it's sort of laughable that we still managed to have the highest number on NBC on the night
Surely this means Sarah and Chuck get married in a church like normal people, and Sarah isn't that sick at the end as they show the wedding scene. The cliffhanger must be more of Chuck, Sarah and Casey in trouble with the CIA for exposing the truth about Alexi Volkoff being Agent X.
I just rewatched this and I have to say the writers did a good job of making me feel really bad for Sarah at the end. She was so happy at the beginning, and all through the course of the episode all she wanted was to get married. Her little whispered "no" when she realized what was happening to her, kind of broke my heart.
In my role of "ratings nerd", I just want to remind everyone that the final ratings aren't out and whatever percentage drop that is reported on TVBTN is not final.
Last week's rating in the hundredths was a 1.38. If this week's ends up a 1.34, it's a different percentage drop than if it is a 1.26. Both round to a 1.3, but one would be a 3% drop and the other a 9% drop.
Preliminary total viewers were really close to last week's. Maybe the actual 18-49 drop wasn't so bad.
Plus, the truth is that NBC is not making its decision based on what happened yesterday or next week. Its renewal chances are going to be based on what has happened. Unless CHUCK suddenly went to a 2.0 or a 0.7, the number isn't going to change much, nor its chances of renewal.
Plus, it's also much more interesting to talk about the episode than its ratings. It was a fabulous episode full of great quotable lines and scenes, and I can't wait to rewatch it tonight.
Probably the biggest surprise for me, though, was Jeff's video. Where did THAT come from? I also enjoyed the Sara vs. Mary dynamic, and how it played out with Chuck's actions. Morgan & Casey were great together as usual. Lester hit a new creepiness level.
They will take whatever number they want to take to determine whatever they will determine THAT YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT so go back to talking about the episode. :)
It was very small detail, but I liked the scenes of the party. The little snippets of Chuck and Sarah enjoying themselves and each other were really cute and heartwarming.
It was an episode with a lot of nice little details like that. Another example is the very brief shot of Mama B doing pull-ups, ala Sara Connor.
According to Jack TVBN who has been really quiet he has this: Chuck and Outsourced both get 13 Event and LOLA done. Thoughts. He has been pretty reliable in the past.
Poor Chuck. I really felt bad for him when Sarah got hit by the Norseman weapon. I hope he goes on a roaring rampage of revenge to take down Vivian Volkoff.
Thanks for reminding me dkd, I liked the party scenes a lot too. Actually, I thought all of the interaction between Chuck and Sarah was so good - they were happy, they were true to who they are (Sarah: Why are you calling him Chewy? Chuck: Don't you get the St ... I love you.) they are so in relationship. I've always thought that relationships are the heart of this show and last night it was tangible.
And Magnus - too spoilery? and it was evident in the episode? They are - I dunno - foreshadowing maybe? Man, if you don't tell us now, please make a note (you keep saying you have to start writing things down)and let us know in your post mortem please.
I totally agee about those party scenes. I've always felt that the less restrictive the script or direction, the better the chemistry. At times I've found some of their moments slightly awkward and stiff but in this episode they seemed really natural.
I read a few comments about how the last scene was still really emotional, even though we knew it was going to be Sarah. And I have to agree. I knew, but my wife didn’t, and her reaction was a classic NOOOOOOOO.
Last Details is a brilliant episode, very funny with some wonderful comedic and poignant moments sprinkled through out, with a nice gut punch at the end.
This season has been a bit odd! Over the first 15 eps I enjoyed them well enough, but only had five eps I really really loved. The second segment of the season has been much much better for me. I think overall I still prefer S3 warts and all but I might have to flip a coin on S2 (Chuck's whinyness got to me) and S4 after next week. Who doesn't love Streethawk/Knightrider? Plus Tuttle + Streethawk style goodness = nerdgasm!
Weird... should be interesting to see what happens next week with the demo (not that it will matter) since last year we were going downhill at the end, not uphill.
Is it wrong that every time I read someone saying they went "NOOOOO" during the Sarah bit, I heard Yvonne's "Naoooouuuuooo" in her accent with Zach imitating it? Rofl.
Thanks for sharing those ratings details, dkd. I guess young females just love weddings. ;D
I am eagerly awaiting the podcast and I hope you share the bit you really liked about this episode, that could be spoilery. It might make the speculation more fun.
I really loved the episode. I hadn´t expected it to be so funny. Ellie kissing Jeff had me gasping. And I loved his montage.
We are going to do the next two podcasts a little differently... should be interesting. Tonight's might be short of us talking and more on the show talking for us.
Next week, for the finale, we will go back to how we started.
There is something different in this episode. Dialoques were warm and funny I loved it... I liked chuck and sarah's opening scene and they are so natural during the party scene. That's the moments we would like to see!! more romance and kisses. By the way I love the jeff's video so sweet. Why they made us waited so long I don't know.
I don't have last year's ratings available at the moment, but the season ended later in the Spring when TV viewing levels are even lower than now.
Also, they combined the last 2 episodes together. So, the cliffhanger between 318 and 319 was buried inside a 2-hour episode.
IMO, this cliffhanger is very strong. While I'm skeptical of wedding planning as a viewer draw, weddings can bump ratings. They, at least, hint at a wedding in the promo.
Unfortunately, HIMYM is pumping a wedding too on the same night.
I guess I'm a little bit more optimistic about next week's ratings. I don't think they'll drop.
It doesn't matter to renewal, but I still like to see more people watching rather than less.
i know it does not matter at this point in time but it always feels better when the ratings are adjusted up. and a 1.4 just feels alot better than the origional 1.3 for this episode
If Sarah doesn't end up coming back to life? Or whatever really happened to her. And if they don't end up having some good happy ending. Or if they decide to not show anything then for some odd reason show us sarah back alive in season 5? if there going to continue that is. But yeah back to the main point if sarah is dead im going to stop watching chuck she makes this tv show. With out her. Or Yvonne Strahovski for that matter it wouldnt be as good. (L) Yvonne Strahovski (L)
Regarding the podcast...I also noticed Sarah Lancaster showing in particularly "awesome" areas other than the belly region. That was actually something that bugged me earlier this season while Ellie was pregnant. It's a mistake that every TV show seems to make. Not that it really takes away from the show - and certainly not the story line - it's just one of those minute details that always gets lost.
I started watching this show because of Sarah. If they write her out of the show i will boycott the $h!t out of it. Dont get me wrong i love all the characters, especially "The Casey"!
Hey, Necrosadist, please don't disparage or insult working women when they get pregnant. If an actress like Sarah Lancaster wants to have a baby, it is her right to choose whether or not to have a baby. And having children should never be a detriment or obstacle for a working woman in her career. Lots of working women have kids, and it shouldn't be something to be ashamed about. Besides, Sarah Lancaster is a grown, mature woman...not a little girl. She is old enough to be able to make her own decisions wisely.
Magnus, I'm not trying to be baiting or trolling here. I'm just defending Sarah Lancaster's decision to have a child during her career as an actress.
Giving the illusion that Sarah is dead, yet showing her alive at the bits of the next episode. Here's hoping she'll be alright.
ReplyDeletePretty good episode of Chuck, though. Better than last episode, even if we missed out on Mama Volkoff. Some real cute moments, and a couple hot moments for the Chuck/Sarah.

Indeed I thought that weapon was 100% effective, but maybe because she got immediate medical attention (Devon and Ellie) that she could survive.
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible hour of Chuck, What a sad ending to the show.
ReplyDeleteSARAH! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
ReplyDelete...Seriously, kill Frost instead. She's not as special as Orion.
I got your teasers Magnus and you made me laugh even more thanks!!!

ReplyDeleteGoodbye Sarah! It was a nice run for her. But at least now they can bring back......... HANNAH!
ReplyDeleteBoo on that Magnus.
ReplyDeleteFavorite Line of the night: "You guys go ahead, I'll catch up as soon as I get this guys pants off... (looks after realizing what he just said and sees chucks face)... Oh Shut Up!!!" I love Casey

ReplyDeleteWe'll finally figure out where Jill's been!
What a twist! I <3 Chuck!

Next week looks intense.
wow... I had to stop and rewind the episode at least four times. I don't remember doing that more than once this season. So, yeah... totally.
ReplyDeleteI loved this episode. Jeff's montage was awesome. Loved the Star Wars reference and Chuck brought out the big guns with the Imperial March.
ReplyDeleteVivian is a royal [redacted].

Nothing warrants kissing Jeff, ever. First those ugly strippers and now this. I have never been more worried about Ellie's decision making.
ReplyDeleteMorgan looked cuter than he has ever looked, in that black suit. I actually found him...hot.
This episode was way better than the last one for me. So much funnier.

ReplyDeleteMaddie
I have to watch the episode a few times before I get a good handle on my overall feelings. I enjoyed it a lot. I am ready for the finale.
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't Sarah die? Those other guys died pretty quick. Is there an explanation or are they just going to gloss over it in the next episode?
ReplyDeleteThey might as well have just showed us the whole episode in that promo, Thanks NBC for ruining everything =( ...how can i be in suspense now? but still a great episode nonetheless. Italian reference (La Barba), breaking bad reference and of course Star Wars!!
ReplyDelete" I have to watch the episode a few times before I get a good handle on my overall feelings. I enjoyed it a lot. I am ready for the finale."
ReplyDeleteFor some reason that doesn't sound good to me :( ( like in a ' I'm ready for the series to be over ' kinda way )
Wow! Awesome episode! Poor Chuck, having to almost lose Sarah.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the chances for Chuck being renewed now?
Did they ruin the episode in the promo?
ReplyDeleteOr do you just think they did?
Alot is editing for that promo I assume - almost looked like there were two wedding scenes. The one with them on the alter which I assume is from the dream and the other where they show everyone where you see brick walls. Who knows - can't wait! Good to see Carina and Zondra in bridesmaid dresses - hope they get decent screen time and not just a brief cameo.
ReplyDeleteHT
I loved this episode.
ReplyDeleteNow Vivian Volkoff has got to die.
Ok theres alot of stuff in that promo, I have no clue how their gonna fit an actual wedding in 60 minuets, but What do I know.
ReplyDeleteObviously the producers killed off the single character that kept bringing back male viewers week after week.
ReplyDeleteWas a good episode but it was lame that they picked Sarah to be infetedf by that thing because for one how did they get her DNA?? should of been Morgan becuase of the blood from his arm in that room
ReplyDeleteYou don't need to get someone's blood to get their DNA. You can get DNA off lots of things.
ReplyDeleteSARAH! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
ReplyDeleteI don't think the promo ruined anything. I'm guessing the wedding scenes we see are just a dream sort of thing, and there may be a second ceremony with just friends/family.. maybe at the hospital? Hopefully it's not a 'at the deathbed' sort of wedding.
ReplyDeleteAs far as other stuff goes.. the way they did the promo for 4x23 made us think that a car hit another car.. and that hurt someone Chuck cared about, so that wasn't ruined.
ReplyDeleteHa you were definitely right Magnus about the tone of this episode being WAAY different than I expected based on the preview.
ReplyDeleteI need to watch the ep again but maybe someone here can explain it ... what the h*ll does that DNA-scrambler-thingy do again??
ReplyDelete@maryploppins who knows how it works, probably not worth worrying about... its sci fi tech, and just a device for making what they want to happen happen.
ReplyDelete-OPD
well unless the wedding they showed was just a dream or Chuck just imagining it (which seems more likely now) then ya NBC ruined it for me. They shouldn't have shown Sarah at all in this promo except for maybe just in the hospital room.
ReplyDeleteIf Sarah didn't die at the end because of some sort of explanation like it couldn't do such and such to her due to her being pregnant or something . I'm going to be uber PO'd at the show and I might have a puppy shot lol . Sepinwall said on his blog that something in the preview was related to the cliffhanger . I don't know what it could be , just not a pregnancy please !
ReplyDeleteLook forward to CYT !
I'm fairly certain that the wedding at the beginning of the promo is a dream sequence.
ReplyDeleteHowever, at the end of the promo, when Chuck says "Oh, boy!" there is writing on the window of the car in the background which appears to be part of "Just Married" with hearts.
The second one seems to have more spoiler potential to me.
I'm still curious on where and how did they get Sarah's DNA ?
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved it!! Reminded me of everything thats great about Chuck!
ReplyDeleteHope to share a season 5 with you guys!!!!!
Caz
How they got Sarah's DNA is one of those plot points you can either choose to worry about or stop worrying about. In the end, the writers would have made it so Vivian could have gotten it through any logical means possible. So, harping on it just means you want to have a problem with it. Stop.
ReplyDeletedo we know anything about renewal?
ReplyDeleteIf "we" knew anything about renewal, you wouldn't be asking about it.
ReplyDeleteWe would have already told you.
ReplyDeleteDaniel
Did anybody notice the Mask reference when mama B. was in Volkoff's vault? Really? :-)
ReplyDeleteNow I wonder if the final cliffhanger isn't Sarah in a flat line at the end of the episode: and as Magnus said, nothing that they can't solve in five seconds at the beginning of season 5 (just in case...)
P.S. Sarah's DNA was hidden in one of many holes in Chuck's plot: so, stop worrying about it, ok? LOL
true. its just an expression in greek. i mean. do u know anything. anyway i believe u know but w8 for the official announcement. so do u know when its going to come out?
ReplyDeleteYou don't need to ask me if the show is going to be renewed. When I know AND can share it with you, you won't be wondering about it. Everyone will be talking about it.
ReplyDeletedid anyone else notice in the promo on the wedding scene that casey and awesome were the best men and was it just me or was morgan the priest? - if so, pretty sure its a dream sequence...
ReplyDeleteMaddie
Maybe Morgan became a priest online!
ReplyDeleteI think that was the best episode of the season it had everything comedy, romance, action, drama (no hotness but we are used to that so it dosen't matter :D) i really hope we get a season5 after watching this ep. it would be really bad if they cancel it. (p.s. u where totally right about the penultimate ep of every season being the best Magnus :D)
ReplyDeletethat would be so epic!
ReplyDeleteM
I think it is easier to write the penultimate episode because you don't have the pressure of paying things off. You can almost pay things off but still be satisfying.
ReplyDeletei know but its the final week. its must be near...
ReplyDeleteOf course it is near... that doesn't change anything. When I can tell you something, I will.
ReplyDeleteMind you, I still think it is getting renewed. And I am about the only one. :)
ReplyDeleteSomething else... you have any ideea if the pictures used in the "VideoMontage" where photoshoped or anything ? cause some of them are from earlier season like one particulary wich was from chuck versus The Seduction (2.2)
ReplyDeleteAnd wich Montage you liked the best ? Lester's ?=))
Some of the pictures were from earlier in the series. But I think all or almost all of the video stuff was recorded recently.
ReplyDeleteLester's montage made me laugh.
By the way, both Lester's and Jeff's version of the C&S-video are online at nbc.com.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nbc.com/chuck/video/jeffs-vision/1326006
http://www.nbc.com/chuck/video/lesters-vision/1326037
yeah sarah being pregnant has shot up to the top of my list as the possible cliffhanger. I really don't see any spy twist that would suck but male viewers 18-34 would not be big friends of a pregnancy
ReplyDelete*fans
ReplyDeleteYou will understand my problem with the cliffhanger when you see it, unless you are easily impressed. If you are easily impressed, then you will come here and say "HOW COULD YOU POSSIBLY NOT LOVE THAT?!?!?!?"
ReplyDeleteAs I have said before, even if I can grow to like what the cliffhanger means, or brings, it is the manner in which they decided to do it that I have a problem with and why it gets a zero from me.
ReplyDeleteHey Arsimo you have another link for the C&S montages ? cause i can't watch it on the nbc site (because i'm not from usa) so if it's put on youtube or something pls link it up :D
ReplyDeleteAbout the cliffhanger .. if it's really a pregnacy that would make sense but i don't think it's the kind of thing you want in a show like chuck (if we didn't had hotness till now ... now it is deffinately doomed :)) ) that of course if they don't do a montage with Sarah breathfeeding(THAT's just sick!) =))))))))))))
So I guess no wedding....
ReplyDeleteLast night's episode was amazing times to times.
My favourite funny moment was with Lester when he said What is this garbage?
and sad one was the end of course.
You keep telling us about the cliffhanger for a month, cannot wait to see what's happening and made you rate it 0/10;))
nena
Death Cab For Cutie = best episode ever.
ReplyDelete"Hey, Casey. How's the Sunshine Band? KC and the Sunshine Band? Has no one ever done that to you before?"
This is was a great Chuck episode that filled with the things everyone loves about Chuck! I personally choose to overlook the hoaky, green, and spinning DNA weapon.
ReplyDeleteJulie M......
Great episode - kept me awake way to long for my 5:00 am wake up call. Interesting seeing the variety of opinions about the episode across the web. The episode caused a surprising amount of rumination out there.
ReplyDeleteWill you be putting out a podcast tomorrow Magnus? Really looking forward to some more nuggets.
Just read my post and I hope you don't count off for bad spelling and grammar! I need to quit posting before coffee!
ReplyDeleteJulie M.
Early ratings are in. Man those are bad. Such a sad way to go out!
ReplyDeleteI don't see any early ratings so...
ReplyDeleteHere's an interesting cliffhanger for ya... ]
ReplyDeleteCan whatever puts data into the brain, also be used to take it out?
What if, because Sarah was going to die, ellie used it to 'backup' Sarah's brain?
Maybe a little too 'Caprica'
I don't see any ratings either....
ReplyDeleteObviously someone hasn't been listening to the podcast since Amrit and I talked about Sarah being downloaded and put into Chuck's brain in season 5. ;)
ReplyDeleteHow about Morgan with the Italian accent(s).
ReplyDeleteMorgan was very funny the entire episode.
ReplyDeleteEarly PFI Feedback ratings. 2.8/5. No demos yet but that's not a good sign.
ReplyDeletefrom spoilertv
ReplyDeleteElsewhere, NBC remained out of the competitive loop as a result of Chuck (#4L 2.8/ 5), The Event (#4: 2.8/ 4) and Law & Order: Los Angeles (#3: 3.6/ 6),
This was the best freaking episode of season 4, I swear sarah better not be dead O.O But considering she said on some type of gossip website? Im not to sure what it was that theres a good chance there will be a season 5 and if theres no she would be rather surprised. Meaning she will probably end up getting some type of cure or maybe alexi volkoff will kill him self for sarah? All just random things im thinking that might happen. I look forward to it!!! CHUCK FTW
ReplyDeleteId listened to those podcasts, guess i didnt put 2+2 together.
ReplyDeleteWhen can chuck\ellie build their own 'cylon' for her brain to go into? One that mananges to look exactly like yvonne strahovski.
I don't respond to HH numbers.
ReplyDeleteIt really seemed to me like this episode had just the right amount of the things that we all love about Chuck. At least the things that I really enjoy…
ReplyDelete- Chuck/Sarah moments
- Morgan comedy
- Casey action and grunting
- Buy More crew craziness
Really a quality episode. Instant classic status in my book.
Easily one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteHell, anyone who'd followed the spoilers that were out knew sarah was going to be taken out. So i was surprised by how much effect that scene still managed to have, a credit to the writers and Zac\Yvonne.
1.3 Demo, tied series Low. Meh
ReplyDeleteIt is what I expected.
ReplyDeleteNext week it will hit 1.2.
Magnus,
ReplyDeleteObviously to be taken with a huge grain of salt but on TVBTN, somebody named Pinker just reported that “Chuck has not been picked up for 2011-2012, SweDak were informed over the weekend. Sorry ”.
Don't know if this corresponds with what you have been hearing from your resource.
Just reporting. Don't shoot the messenger.
Vlad
So chuck drops to a 1.3 according to tvbtn, but its one of the lowest % drops of the night for all networks (everyone took a hit... great weather right now might be a factor)
ReplyDeleteEvent and LOLA get a 1.1 and 1.2 respectively, so chuck still won the night in that regard.
Wont matter if its a 1.2 or an 8.2 next week, the call will already be made.
ReplyDeleteVlad, I doubt they were informed over the weekend. If they were, they would have told their people since they need to find new jobs.
ReplyDeleteMagnus,
ReplyDeleteYou are the ever calming presence in the raging storm that is the Upfronts Week.
Vlad
@vlad, where are you seeing this? Not seeing it in the comments for last night's ratings, so if it was posted there its been deleted, which might say something about the accuracy of that..
ReplyDeleteI have as good of a source as anyone and he says it is untrue. I trust his word.
ReplyDelete@Alex,
ReplyDeleteIt was actually on page 8 of yesterday's post about Chuck's potential ratings for last night:
http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2011/05/09/chuck-vs-the-foregone-conclusion-do-tonights-ratings-matter-for-renewal/91924
I really should learn to stay off of TVBTN on Tuesdays (or any other day for that matter). It would do wonders for my health.
:)
Does your source say anything about renewal?
ReplyDeleteHaven't I covered this already? When I can talk about the renewal, I will talk about it.
ReplyDeleteWhy did the ratings drop when they had risen in the previous episode?
ReplyDeleteBecause they did.
ReplyDeleteHasn't that been the pattern after a hiatus? The show usually rises the first episode back and then goes down the following week.
ReplyDelete@vlad yeah, the comments section of tvbtn, in general, will just bring you frustration. I dont get why people openly cheer for Chuck (or other shows) to fail.
ReplyDeleteAlso, magnus, does your source say snything about renewal? /s
(im so banned for life)
@melwicker- look at across the board ratings. A bunch of shows dropped. A lot of good weather likely got a lot of people outside and away from their TVs last night.
ReplyDelete@melwicker
ReplyDeleteprobably for the same reason they rose last time when they had dropped the time before
Ethan
back from the Mog
Ultimately I'd expect to hear a leak about renewal cancellation at the end of the week. If we don't hear at the upfronts on Monday then thats actually probably not a bad sign as it means that negotiations/horse trading with WB are hopefully ongoing. I'm disappointed but totally not suprised by a 1.3 this week either. Still on pure numbers we'd be toast, it's sort of laughable that we still managed to have the highest number on NBC on the night
ReplyDelete@Alex
ReplyDeleteIt's on the "'Chuck' vs. The Foregone Conclusion: Do Tonight's Ratings Matter For Renewal?" topic on the eighth page of discussions.
KJ
Surely this means Sarah and Chuck get married in a church like normal people, and Sarah isn't that sick at the end as they show the wedding scene. The cliffhanger must be more of Chuck, Sarah and Casey in trouble with the CIA for exposing the truth about Alexi Volkoff being Agent X.
ReplyDeleteDaniel McFarland
www.danielmcfarland.co.uk
I just rewatched this and I have to say the writers did a good job of making me feel really bad for Sarah at the end. She was so happy at the beginning, and all through the course of the episode all she wanted was to get married. Her little whispered "no" when she realized what was happening to her, kind of broke my heart.
ReplyDeleteHow does NBC like the new pilots?
ReplyDeleteAnd some people are really mad about what happened to Sarah. I just feel sorry for Chuck, who is possibly going to lose his fiancee.
In my role of "ratings nerd", I just want to remind everyone that the final ratings aren't out and whatever percentage drop that is reported on TVBTN is not final.
ReplyDeleteLast week's rating in the hundredths was a 1.38.
Word... wait for finals.
ReplyDeletePlus, the truth is that NBC is not making its decision based on what happened yesterday or next week.
ReplyDeleteProbably the biggest surprise for me, though, was Jeff's video. Where did THAT come from? I also enjoyed the Sara vs. Mary dynamic, and how it played out with Chuck's actions. Morgan & Casey were great together as usual. Lester hit a new creepiness level.
NBC will take the ratings from the entire year right ? Not just the last 7-8 episodes ?
ReplyDeletedean
They will take whatever number they want to take to determine whatever they will determine THAT YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT so go back to talking about the episode. :)
ReplyDeleteIt was very small detail, but I liked the scenes of the party. The little snippets of Chuck and Sarah enjoying themselves and each other were really cute and heartwarming.
ReplyDeleteIt was an episode with a lot of nice little details like that. Another example is the very brief shot of Mama B doing pull-ups, ala Sara Connor.
I am considering mentioning something on the podcast that I really liked about this episode... but worried that it may be too spoilery. We shall see.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Jack TVBN who has been really quiet he has this: Chuck and Outsourced both get 13 Event and LOLA done. Thoughts. He has been pretty reliable in the past.
ReplyDeletePoor Chuck. I really felt bad for him when Sarah got hit by the Norseman weapon. I hope he goes on a roaring rampage of revenge to take down Vivian Volkoff.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me dkd, I liked the party scenes a lot too.
ReplyDeleteAnd Magnus - too spoilery? and it was evident in the episode? They are - I dunno - foreshadowing maybe? Man, if you don't tell us now, please make a note (you keep saying you have to start writing things down)and let us know in your post mortem please.
I totally agee about those party scenes. I've always felt that the less restrictive the script or direction, the better the chemistry. At times I've found some of their moments slightly awkward and stiff but in this episode they seemed really natural.
ReplyDeleteI read a few comments about how the last scene was still really emotional, even though we knew it was going to be Sarah. And I have to agree. I knew, but my wife didn’t, and her reaction was a classic NOOOOOOOO.
ReplyDeleteWent home for lunch and watched about the first half hour again. How about Sarah “I finally watched Mannequin”. Hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI saw Jack's comment... I didn't take it as a statement, more of a prediction. He might be right, though.
ReplyDeleteThe Final rating had Chuck at a 1.36. Rounds up to a 1.4. Only .02 behind the last episode.
ReplyDeleteThe Event had a 1.11 and LOLA a 1.23.
Chuck's Male 18-49 was a 1.21, while F18-49 was a 1.31.
There was an 18% increase in the Male 18-34 rating vs. last week. Highest rating for that demo since episode 418.
Thanks for the info. Nice to see that demo tune in.
ReplyDeleteLast Details is a brilliant episode, very funny with some wonderful comedic and poignant moments sprinkled through out, with a nice gut punch at the end.
ReplyDeleteThis season has been a bit odd!
You are welcome. I'm always glad to share here.
ReplyDeleteI just noticed that Females 18-34 were up 23% and Teen Girls (12-17) doubled vs. last week(+118%).
I don't know what THAT'S all about. Teens are a demo for Chuck that is very volatile. It can spike one week and drop back again the next.
Weird... should be interesting to see what happens next week with the demo (not that it will matter) since last year we were going downhill at the end, not uphill.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the ratings insight dkd. I'm sure it will be ruminated by "the believers" ;-)
ReplyDeleteHmmmm.... maybe dreamers is more appropriate.
ReplyDeleteIs it wrong that every time I read someone saying they went "NOOOOO" during the Sarah bit, I heard Yvonne's "Naoooouuuuooo" in her accent with Zach imitating it? Rofl.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing those ratings details, dkd.
ReplyDeleteI guess young females just love weddings.
ReplyDeleteNext week, for the finale, we will go back to how we started.
There is something different in this episode. Dialoques were warm and funny I loved it...
ReplyDeleteI liked chuck and sarah's opening scene and they are so natural during the party scene. That's the moments we would like to see!! more romance and kisses. By the way I love the jeff's video so sweet. Why they made us waited so long I don't know.
I don't have last year's ratings available at the moment, but the season ended later in the Spring when TV viewing levels are even lower than now.
ReplyDeleteAlso, they combined the last 2 episodes together.
ReplyDeleteI know it's not what Chuck would do, but he should use the Norsman device they captured to kill Vivian.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see what Alexei will do in the final episode.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the podcast...I also noticed Sarah Lancaster showing in particularly "awesome" areas other than the belly region. That was actually something that bugged me earlier this season while Ellie was pregnant. It's a mistake that every TV show seems to make. Not that it really takes away from the show - and certainly not the story line - it's just one of those minute details that always gets lost.
ReplyDeleteI started watching this show because of Sarah. If they write her out of the show i will boycott the $h!t out of it. Dont get me wrong i love all the characters, especially "The Casey"!
ReplyDeleteYou go ahead and boycott it.... not only will no one notice, but you may be boycotting a cancelled show.
ReplyDeleteI hope the show isn't cancelled.
ReplyDeleteAs for Sarah Lancaster's pregnancy, I wish all the best for her and her baby in the years ahead.
You surprise me, melwicker. I figured you, of all people, would want to see CHUCK cancelled!
ReplyDeleteMagnus, you know I don't want to see Chuck cancelled. I have said it many times before.
ReplyDeleteOf course, if we do get a season 5, they will have to work around Sarah Lancaster's pregnancy again.
frost cant die noobs SHE's SARAH CONNOR!!! xD
ReplyDeleteand wtf this girls get pregnant during their best time in their career... even famous n rich ppl dont know how to properly use condoms... noobs xD
ReplyDeleteMagnus, I'm not trying to be baiting or trolling here. I'm just defending Sarah Lancaster's decision to have a child during her career as an actress.
And who said Frost will die?
ReplyDelete
