I thought it was great and I think it will start getting better and better. Right now I hope it will be less about the chuck and sarah wedding and more about Vivian Volkoff I think her character will bring up the ratings and bring back the people that are watching other shows. I am really wonder what is going to be in the mystery room. This show is good at that don't you think Magnus.
The pacing felt weird to me. Some things just majorly dragged for me during this episode. The horse riding scenes in particular were boring. Plus I tuned out everytime the new girl or the random bad guys were on.
Chuck/Morgan were cute but again it went on too long. It felt like they had the same conversation twice.
Loved Sarah/Morgan, her playing with the toys was adorable. I felt like their should have been a scene between Chuck and Sarah discussing the move.
I'm glad it looks like Casey is finally getting a storyline. He deserves it.
Scruffy Awesome? Yes, please. So brutally hot even when grungy and exhausted.
And finally Chuck/Sarah, I'm pretty sure they'll just be high fiving pretty soon, as to not get the cooties.
@Sue: Yeah, not enough Chuck/Sarah action tonight, but my god Sarah looked gorgeous in..everything she wore, as always. No big V-day scene between 'em, though.. and while it's irritating, somehow, I get the feeling that they'll have some passion ate some point int he coming eps.
Fun episode all around. Intrigued in the Vivian plot more than I ever was in the MamaB one.
I've gotta say, I just wasn't overly impressed by this episode. There were a lot of funny moments, like Sarah/Morgan, Morgan/Alex, Casey walking in and seeing everyone in their Valentine's Day attire..but something just feels off lately. Like the characters are very out of character, if that makes any sense. All in all, I still enjoy the show, and it's my favorite, but the episode wasn't stellar. The promo for next week was just, for lack of a better word, 'meh.' I may be alone in thinking that, but it's okay!
Man tonights episode was good. I love it when the Casey is unleashed. Sarah looked great with the wings and when she had the mask on oh man she looked good. I'm looking forward to next week and to see what little V is going to do next. Work of the year Charah!! Lol. I'm stoked for next week. ROCK ON CHUCK!!!
Good episode here--more of a teaser foundation for the next arc, but it set up some great pieces. The thread of "growing up/moving on/finding your place in life" was pretty solid throughout all the storylines: Chuck/Sarah/Vivian, Casey/Bentley, Morgan/Chuck, and even Clara/Awesome/Ellie to some extent.
Vivian's got some intriguing possibilities and I look forward to seeing her more. Bentley, ditto; I suspect she's got an agenda, and her trying to lure Casey away made me think of the old NSA/CIA rivalry back in s1.
Glad to see Casey's hopefully getting a storyline (plus some action scenes here) because as Morgan and Bentley both observe, he's really been kind of background for a good while now. Also good to see he was sincere in what he said to Alex: he's not leaving her.
Some great char moments overall. LeJudkins have consistently delivered since "Tic Tac". They seriously understand all the chars and seem to take care to give time to all of them and their relationships. And they're great at little moments.
I agree with Sue on bout the new girl. Vivian, she was just I don't know a yawn. I didn't really like her. Kind of reminded me how lame Shaw was. But other than that I liked the episode.
Now Casey getting a storyline, I loved it. I can't wait to find out more bout it.
The part with Morgan and Alex, was freaken awesome then. Casey walking in on them during that, well whatever that was. Freaken funny. Couldn't stop laughing.
Also the part with Ellie and Devon and the baby that was awesome too.
I enjoyed the episode can't wait for the next Chuck.
"And finally Chuck/Sarah, I'm pretty sure they'll just be high fiving pretty soon, as to not get the cooties."
Heh. That would involve actual touching, and I'm not sure they're ready to take that step yet.
Overall, it was an alright episode. I know they're only jump-starting the new arc, so it was good for what it was. Not terribly exciting, though.
I think I'm gonna wait and see about Vivian, but she isn't all that interesting to me right now. But there is potential there, I think.
I am, however, interested in Casey's storyline.
I agree with Sue. Normally episodes are so full you kind of don't know what to do with yourself, but this one kind of lost me a few times. Especially during the horse-riding scenes.
To the people who didn't think this episode wasn't entirely and completely hysterical and awesome. Well your just *&$)(*@! nuts.
Sarah playing with Star Wars Toys = 50 points. Sarah picking up Chuck's bumbling and getting stuck = 25 points Casey barging in on THAT SCENE = 25 points Cool Volkoff heir storyline = 25 points Casey Super Sniper = 25 points I could go on and on and on.
Way better than Cat Squad. Loved the episode, one of the three best of the year and in some ways better than Push Mix and Seduction.
I think Sue wasn't complaining about having not enough time but rather how it was done.
It was a Valentine's episode, and from what I read, a lot of people (including me) were complaining about the lack of passion lately, especially regarding their kisses and I think with just kissing each others cheeks today they hit a new low.
So yeah, they're gonna high five sometime soon.
But tonight's episode was fun, I liked it. And finally a new exciting Casey storyline coming up.
Yeah, Ms.Givens was certainly the better of the two and with about 1/3 the screen time. I'm sad to say I'm not looking foward to this Vivian storyline. Hopefully Timothy Dalton will spark it or this girl develops a personality.
Rich, Sarah said she was kidding immediately following that comment--she does have a sense of humor sometimes.
I think Boris was a great 1 shot bad guy. He actually killed people...and looked awesome doing it. As for the other two newcomers, the setup was good. They seem to be a part of two different storylines, but I'm sure they'll converge at some point. Secret NCS mission meets the new Volkoff.
I won't say it was LeJudkins' best, Magnus, but compared to last week's so-so that definitely makes this one shine a bit more for me.
Bentley seems to have more mystery than Vivian right now. I agree I'm probably more interested in what her agenda is than what Vivian's life choices are.
I do think the sniper sequence was a nice followup to Morgan and Bentley both ragging Casey about him being off his game now but it was poorly executed. A world-class sniper shouldn't stand flatfooted in the open when surrounded by a half-dozen guys with scopes on him and somehow pick them off one by one. That was probably the weakest-executed scene of the episode for me.
What knocked Sarah out? I couldn't tell if she hit her head or not.
"I think Sue wasn't complaining about having not enough time but rather how it was done.

@Anonymous- It was especially jarring because of the kissing between the random baddies and then the married couple who just had a baby. I just think they shouldn't even address certain aspects of their life on screen if its going to be that lame.
@Sue - I actually don't mind the types of kisses Chuck and Sarah have been sharing. Why? Because those are the types of kisses that longtime couples casually give each other as signs of affection. We already know Chuck and Sarah have an active sex life....with each other. No tonsil hockey needed at all to show that they love each other.
@Paul- That is true but it shouldn't be 95% of the kisses they share. There are so many other ways to show simple affection. They don't have to go to the same generic kiss everytime. Then the good ones would stand out.
Now I will officially drop the subject as I can tell some people are...frustrated with it.:)
They have had a few good long-term-affectionate-kisses. Those work very well. The little lip-pecking? In the real world, I would feel sorry for that couple.
Wow, the reviews to this episode seem to be extremely mixed. There are some people who absolutely loved the episode and praise it highly and then there are those who, like you Magnus, who seem to be really negative on the episode. I have to rewatch the episode again before having a final opinion on it but I thought it was a good setup to the new spy story arc. I think that coming weeks will be better with Sarah wedding planning and becoming more of a real girl, and 418 with Sarah having a big emotional epiphany.
magnus i agree with you about most things but i actually felt that this episode may have been one of the best this season. can you tell us anything about caseys new mission in zone 6?
Chuck is acting like a grown man and a capable and competent spy during this mission, and I really enjoyed that. Morgan is getting the idea that he needs to grow up and move out of the house, which is sad, but also very mature at the same time.
I kinda feel bad for Chuck and Sarah, the bad guys get more action then the two of them!!! Lol,Other then that I really liked the episode good start to the new arc.
Interesting posts. Unlike most people I am not looking forward to more Volkoff storylines. I'm tired of it. They've gotten Frost back. I would've preferred more Orion storylines to be honest with you. Morgan moving out blows monkey chunks but I would like to see more of Morgan and Alex. I think more of Alex in general would be neat. Maybe getting Casey back with Alex's mom.
I don't trust Bentley and her secret doors...
I would like to see Chuck and Sarah babysit 'Awesome Jr.'
Pretty decent episode, I thought the Casey mission is an interesting twist [maybe leaves the team soon/end of season?] and the new director has an aura of mystery around her. I don't know and haven't heard spoilers so I'm only guessing here but the Volkov daughter and her seeing a video or whatever it was at the end gives a hope of seeing Tim Dalton some more so that's always good.
As a standalone episode it was fairly weak but I'm assuming the things at the end hopefully rise interest in the viewers and get them to continue to watch the rest of season.
I want to see some more passion with Sarah n' Chuck like most have said, if we have to wait til' the wedding to see something proper I'm going to be sad.
When I saw the promo for this episode I thought they ruined it by giving away, No I've been to those parties and they look nothing like this. Thankfully there was more to laugh at. Who didn't fall in love just a little bit more with Yvonne when she acted out playing with Han and chewy. Even if it was a little out of character for Sarah Walker. Looking forward to the podcast.
A fine episode. Over the whole season not stellar but compared with last week's turd a masterpiece.
Finally back to something resembling a story, good one-on-one character scenes and consistent character behaviour. And the fun returned. Good solid work.
Only the hidden passion should have a chance to come out once - too long ago now, the VDay and Masquerade setting promised a lot in that department but didn't deliver in the end. Hopefully next week.
Reaction: meh. Wasn't bad, but wasn't good either.
I believe everyone knew from the beginning that the key was her necklace - they just tried to throw us off by making Vivian put it on Sarah as if it were just a piece of jewelry.
How can Castle be a secret base if they keep bringing everyone there?
The wig Sarah was wearing looked less fake than the black one.
I'm gonna echo everyone and say: kiss on the cheeks? WTF!
Is it just me or is the "Bank of Macau" the same set of that bank where they recovered the triangular disk and Tuttle got "shot"?
The promo just didn't get my attention...it actually seemed like a somewhat lame episode... let's hope I am wrong.
And the glasses they are wearing on the promo are SOOOOOO Matrix-nineties-style....awful and tacky.
i was just a little disappointed with the sarah and morgan scene. sarah just annoyed me. morgan has done so much for her and chuck and sarah as a couple and all she could do was play with toys. i kept waiting for the scene take two where she thanks morgan or tells him how much she appreciates him. didn't really like the episode much at all - just felt a bit off. i really did like the ellie and awesome story line though! MF
Oh, and those were some of the worst action sequences on the show. Ever.
a) Gymnast Chuck? On a tree? Too much and weird looking. And why on earth would the "chasers" be dressed like that? In case TPTB don't know, one does not have to be dressed like that in order to be able to ride a horse... you can do that without the breeches, equestrian helmet and jacket. Do bad guys spend time grooming themselves to look like real horseriding gentlemen when all they want is to get the girl?
b) Casey, experienced sniper taking cover behind a small log, not being shot despite being in the middle of an open field and killig all the enemies, despite them being camouflaged and behind trees and branches. The look on ABs face seemed more confused than anything...not ABs best day.
I will give my opinion on the podcast... but this episode was much like last week's for me in that there are things I like very much (or love), and things I think either weren't up to the usual talents of the people on the show, or a total mess.
Some of you may love it, and that is cool, but it won't make my top 20 list anytime soon.
is it bad of me to say that i kinda prefer the story lines where chuck and sarah are fighting or in the earlier seasons where the thought of them together bought out all this sort of tension. I understand character growth and all that but im just curious for your opinion Magnus on the direction they have taken with chuck and sarah. i sort of assumed that chuck and sarah getting engaged would be the final seasons finale. i just thought it was too soon and they could have had more fun with those two just dating. Do you have any ideas of what they will do with chuck and sarah in the future? Whats your take on it all as them as a couple? Thanks Maddie
the CS passion is being teased the way the CS relationship used to be, so we see belly dancing, we see victoria secret wings, but we get no passion or consummation - a new age Wt/WT strategy - seems to have some pretty riled up - I think it is hilarious
About the kisses, if we count how many times magnus has said that there are hot kisses shot but he does not know if they will make the final edit.....well lets put it this way, it seems that either the editor or show runner is punishing the auidience there sounds to have been at least a few good kisses that would have been fine by the audience that has been left on the cutting room floor...
Here is a lesson, never bite the hand that feeds you crazy shippers! or the rest of the audience who are reasonable and constructive in their critism and praise suffer....To be fair if I were a show runner and I got abuse, I would do the same, lol!
Will you give us an exclusive teaser/spoiler on CVT A-TEAM?
These last two episodes ... just didn't measure up somehow. It seems to me that Vivian will be Alexi's mole now like Frost was to the CIA. This should build up to a great season end cliff hanger.
I am looking forward to the podcast. Definitely wasn´t one of my favorite episodes either.
There was some funny stuff and I liked the setup of Vivian and whatever Casey is in for, but the V-Day setup was extremly silly and I didn´t like the lack of substantial Chuck and Sarah interaction and not just regarding hotness between them. Chuck´s shirt didn´t really work for me. And even though it´s nice that Chuck is that confidant in Sarah´s abilities, it would be nice for him to show some concern for her well being from time to time. She isn´t invincible and if Casey wouldn´t have gone all super sniper again, she could very well have been killed. I´d like for Chuck to at least be aware of that danger once in a while.
Also somehow the Morgan/Chuck stuff seemed forced. I didn´t see Morgan playing the child to Chuck and Sarah in the past at all and Morgan and Chuck haven´t been living together that long and were just as good friends before that. Additionally Morgan kind of already had this particularly revelation when he decided to move in with Anna in season 2. And he did grow a lot since then.
I am wondering what you expected differently, because it didn´t necessarily feel that much like a game changing character study to me.
I also expected the Chuck/Vivian dynamic to be somehow different. With all that talk about her having something in common with Chuck and Chuck being able to protect her, I thought she would be a little more helpless. However she kind of reminded me more of Sarah than of Chuck, with her being trained since an early age and having no real qualms about shooting that Boris guy.
But I didn´t really mind that she turned out different than I expected, because so far I quite like how the set her up.
They aren't punishing the viewers, since you shouldn't know that some of the kisses were shot hotter. And it is the show runners who make the final decisions, so we shouldn't blame anyone else. They just seem to think lame kissing is the way to go. At least they seem to get the relationship stuff right... for the most part. Unlike a show like SMALLVILLE where I am shocked at how poorly they have handle the Clark/Lois stuff this season. 10 season buildup for meh?
I think the Casey and Morgan feeling like a third wheel storyline would have played out better, if Chuck and Sarah would have been portrayed more as a unity in this episode.
Casey has been sidelined quite a bit in the past. So I think that worked better than the setup with Morgan. I can´t really think of that many scenes where Chuck and Sarah´s connection was shown to make Morgan feel excluded. Especially since he started dating Alex.
Please dont get me started on Smallville and Clois. Season 10 sucks to me and to much stuff going on and their throwing way to much stuff in their cause it the last season. But this web blog is about Chuck. So hey let put Chuck in some real danger. Lets make him like almost die like die on a hospital bed.
I didn't dislike this one as much as I disliked Cat Squad, but it wasn't great either.
I just get this underlying feeling that the show is winding down toward ending very soon. The "Morgan needs to move out" stuff kinda reinforced that. Honestly, Chuck's "hero's journey" concluded in 413 and it seems to be in "epilogue" stage.
Vivian was okay, but her transition from innocent to embracing her destiny in one episode seemed a tad quick for dramatic impact.
I guess she'll be doing a "Tuttle" with the team for a while until they realize what's up.
One last comment: After all these weeks of trying to trend various Chuck phrases on Twitter, it's ironic that "Charah" started to trend last night after Casey said it on air.
Hola Amigo - Well - Liked the episode - but I get the feeling that this was another chop job from the creative team. [ write + re-write then edit + re-edit] Meaning = It would be my suspicion that they had a really fun / romantic Valentine's episode all planned out... Fun in the apartment - Fun at the party... and then CHANGED THEIR DIRECTION.... Now, of course I have no proof - but it just seems that the tone and pace seems cut and pasted together a little too much. My guess - it started as a really fun and "shippery" Valentines episode + Ellie,Devon, Clara, with the Buy More gang and then add drama with the whole Morgan move + Casey situation.... BUT, Then added Vivian.... Then added more to the NCS.... and the tone gets mixed up too much. hmmm... seems kind of counter to their own mantra - Journey vs Destination - in a way that they need to get too much "STUFF" packed because they are in a hurry to get somewhere... [sigh] Still - I really liked the story and spy elements.. However, we are on the verge of a less is more situation here. cheers ~ The Gringo Chuck Fan
Gringo, yeah.... I would call what you just said their wild supposition. I haven't heard anything to suggest that the episode was constructed any differently than any other episode. The only difference may be in how much time they have to write the script and have it ready for shooting.
"Also somehow the Morgan/Chuck stuff seemed forced. Additionally Morgan kind of already had this particularly revelation when he decided to move in with Anna in season 2. And he did grow a lot since then."
@Awelle- I agree, not to mention they didn't get that freakin' maudlin when Morgan moved to Hawaii. Thay are still going to see each other everyday, still going to be best friends. So over the top.
I agree with Mariene for the shot part or maybe slightly injured, but fatally wounded...that's a bit much...all in all I liked this episode it kind of reminded me of a past season episode for some reason, which is good. the opening scene was hilarious minus the shooting part. I found the shooting part to be gorey for Chuck, but compared to other tv shows it wasn't that much. they had some good sub plots for ellie and awesome and chuck and morgan. I, personally, enjoyed seeing Sarah "hang" with Morgan and then continue to play with his collectibles.
I am kind of hoping that Vivian Volkoff is just doing what Alexei Volkoff did when he first came into the show acting all helpless around them and then POW she is evil and decides to go after chuck, sarah and Mama b for getting her father arrested. That would be awesome!!!
I would say I thought that the first 5 minutes was one of the best opens of the season, and possibly the series. The physical comedy, with the air pattycake and catching the strawberries before they hit the ground, and the interplay between Chuck and Sarah while watching Morgan and Alex was top notch. I thought the rest of the episode was setting up the arc for Season 4.1 and I was ok with that as well. Obviously, it wasn't a top-10 episode by any stretch, but you can't have the great reveals and episodes that we've become accustomed to without the occasional exposition.
ok maybe 'fatally wounded' is a little bit too much. But at least let them have some injury. It's always Casey that gets shot or thrown off a building. The only time, that I could remember, where Sarah got hurt is during season 2 where a car exploded. (can't remember what episode, Bryce was there)
I think it was a solid episode and it had potential to be better but some things were off. But I like very much Chuck and Morgan's scene with the star wars dolls. To sum up I think that Rafe Judkins & Lauren LeFranc are the best writers right now but they had a bad day just like you said.
This was the first time that a Lejudkins episode didn't end with a Charah scene like other times and it ended with a cliffhanger.
The ep was pretty good. Sub-par. I would give it 2 and 1/2 out 4 stars. However, because of that freakishly hilarious scene with Casey walking in on Chuck and Sarah with the chocolate strawberries and Alex and Morgan doing whatever that was they were doing (those two really freaked me out) I would give the ep 3 out four stars. Oh! And did anyone else laugh their arses off when Sarah started playing with the toys. By far the funniest Sarah scene EVA!!!! OMFG lol I thought I was going to die laughing. By the way, watching Casey blow everyone to bits was well, AWESOME. Fan girl heaven here. the only thing bad about Casey is when he refered to Chuck and Sarah as "Chara." They are two different people peplz. UGH! All in all, the ep was good, not great. Not my fav. but it had bits and pieces like Cat Squad did that made the ep worth while. Oh! And wasn't this supposed to be a V-day ep. Where was the freakin' passion. I wanted to see the "love machine." ;) Brittany
While it wasn't the strongest ep of the season, I did think that the opening segment was hilarious. The look on everyone's faces at each person's discovery was incredible. Even the look of horror on Alex's face when she realizes her dad just walked in on them was great.
And who knew John Casey was a shipper? He called them Charah at the bar.
Much better than most of the pre-Push Mix episodes this season. It didn't (although, if you do break it down and analyse it a bit, it seems to be in theory) FEEL anywhere near as rushed as all the four or five episodes leading up to 13. It wasn't trying anything too spectacular, which is good since spectacular doesn't work on this show. There's always boundaries you know it has to play within and that is why the big Volkoff story didn't work for me.
I am getting fed up of some of the locations they try to shoehorn in (although Vivian's place was passable). Since their budget is so low and their CGI so terrible it would make sense to write those out. What happened to the great locations in the first couple of seasons - the docks? The pier?
Anyway, for ME, this sort of episode is much more enjoyable than any attempt at a big-scale finale thing, because I enjoy Chuck for its characters and their interactions. Chuck and Morgan, in this episode, epitomised that.
I think they've toned down the "hotness" possibly because they want to make a clear difference between Chuck and Undercovers which got cancelled. "Sexpionage" didn't work for that show, so my guess is they are trying to avoid it on Chuck otherwise they feel that Chuck might suffer the same fate.
Hey, I actually thought this episode was great. Set up the next story arc very well. I'm really curious on what Vivian will become. I'm curious what's happening with Casey, though. What was behind that door at the end? I don't wanna wait! Regardless, I'll only watch Chuck (or any of my favorite shows) in HD on DISH Network. As a DISH customer/employee I can tell you that DISH has more HD channels than any other provider, and the quality is amazing. Should check it out. Oh, and one question... where has MamaB been?
I loved that episode but wanted to comment on something else.
Once of Chuck editors posted a movie about post production process in latest episode...and you can see there that the scene between Morgan and Sarah was longer...they were playing Duck Hunt or something like that...pity it was cut :(.
OH MAN! I was upset about the kissing, but now that I know there was a scene that involved sarah and morgan playing video games and it was cut! OH MAN! This is a huge moment in chuck history, I mean we have all seen chuck and sarah get hot and heavy... so the fact we do not get it who cares! (go and watch your dvd's) but sarah now a gamer! she is now one of us..... a nerd! it was always going to happen....you live with two nerds and sleep with one of them... you become a nerd!
I guess the Roar!! bang bang scene was funnier. I thought it was hillarious.
Also not be a debbie downer but Josh's last tweet about finding the .2 in ratings has me worried. I don't think Chuck will regain those demos and sadly I think this is it for Chuck. Hard to get a S5 when the demo keeps dropping.
Why didn't they shave a minute or two off of that 5 minutes long Chuck/Morgan scene to make way for the amazingness that could have come from the Sarah/Morgan video game bonding? What is up with these editing decisions?
Ha and you also saw that Sarah was killing Morgan too! Thats really disappointing cause that could of delivered some comedy gold. And only the whole cut scenes make the DVD, not the cuts right?
Why is morgan going to live in the buymore, he is manager of a buymore and a spy, both those paycheques combined should give him more than enough cash to live in chuck/awesomes/casey's apartment complex.....how is morgan broke all the sudden? I mean he does not lead a life beyond his means I do not think? and did he and chuck not split the cost of all the furniture, does he not get half? but it is a tv show..... so ce la vie!
I have just subjected myself to pain for you buddy (mamemimomu) but like the characters in the show...we have to stick together...the answer is...drum role please....1.29! My head hurts!
Hmmm I liked this episode, despite the lack of coupl-y stuff (agree w/ Magnus here - in real life I'd feel a little sorry for them - newly engaged couples are usually much more hands on, but I'll call it a PG-13 show and be done with it) - that said, people like couples. I mean, viewers like seeing couples being... well, couples. Maybe showing affection isn't strictly necessary, but it makes for good TV darn it!
Loved this episode on the whole. The bromance was at an all time high, and the Casey subplot makes a nice set up for the next arc. Vivien's character seemed a bit here, there and everywhere, but I'm excited for what she does next.
Sarah thinking that an appropriate way to bond with Morgan was to play with his and Chuck's TOYS? (Is she 8?) And then actually PLAYING with the toys? I just died of hilarity and went to comic heaven. Her support of Chuck and Morgan's friendship was adorable (in as non-patronising way as possible).
The Ellie and Devon scenes were enjoyable, and their plan was hilarious.
I think that rafe and lauren are romantics......they are shippers, but the kind that likes the conversations and sweetness that exist between the adorable chuck and sarah and not the debauchery that certain neanderthal fans love and demand....why not just go and watch po**o instead....the dialogue will be crappy but it will satiate your needs....
RJLL, some of you seem to think we want tongue hotness in the kisses. I just want the type of kisses that people give each other a year into the relationship. They aren't little lip-pecks, unless the relationship sucks.
It bugs me because every now and then, like in the 4.11 scene in front of the massive green screen castle, they had a perfectly subtle but believable kiss.
But I get it... some of you are such hardcore fanboys and girls that anyone criticism has to be met with hardcore counter criticism. So, you pretend we are all demanding for hot sex kisses. It is cool. I know the strategy. But it doesn't work with me.
PG-13?! Really, this is the excuse ?! XD I mean, it was 11 murder in the episode , just saying ..... LOL Casey himself killed at least 8 man. I counted. XD. as Magnus said, i think in the Other Guy podcast, when someone said, it was good that they show the Blood, when Shaw died. and He was like : " Well yeah it's a Family Show, you need to show the Blood ".
But they afraid to show some passion and hot kiss. ? :S . Intresting
My friends just turned me onto parks and recreation the other day and basically I watched all 30 odd episodes in one weekend....lets just say I never knew that I would be such a fan of dead pan delivery comedy, but I am and I love the show....this is a preamble to me saying that I was joking about the "debauchery that certain neanderthal fans...." I was trying a dead pan delivery because I have been doing that this week because I found it hillarious in P & R. Nevertheless I see why fans want the passion back, but when the first kiss between two characters in WTWT situation is one of the hottest tv has ever seen....every kiss becomes kinda lame.....I mean how do you top that? it never probably will be topped....
I now realise that doing dead pan comedy does not work on the internet, you need to do it face to face....we live and learn!
Oh and if you have seen parks and rec and you are a fan then I really advise you to go to youtube and watch their paley center interview in 2009 especially when aziz talks about his character....you will cry it is that awesome!
I remember one of your earliest podcasts just before season 3 aired and when you and jess were talking she said to you that she wished that chuck and sarah did not always attack each other when they kissed....LOL! oh how times have changed.....at the time I fully agreed with her, my reasoning being that I wanted something more intimate and meaningful instead of pure lust and passion...now I know I am an idiot....bring back the lust and passion Schwedak, please!
@Amrit: I just watched it! Thanks! It was soo quick, how did you even see it? I had to pause several times, but it was worth it... it did seem awesome. It is a shame they had to cut it... I just wish they put it on the DVD.
Obviously I need to read some of these comments more thoroughly before approving them. You got me this week because I have been sick... but in the future, if you get all creepy, I am popping you in the spam box.
Furthermore and this happens to a lot of series not just chuck...every time a fan is not happy about the latter part of a series they lash out and complain. Listen to episode 34 of chuckyoutuesdays and what lou had to say about the lost finale, just because some fans did not think it held up you cannot just forget about all the great moments terry, michael emmerson or any of the other actors gave earlier just because the story is not panning out. The same with what zach and yvonne and adam have done in this series, you may not like where the story is heading or what you may see as something terrible, but you cannot go and rubbish all the great moments they had before and minimise them like fans do. It is disingenous and not fair to the actors.
It all boils down to the writers and show runners, for me jack became a little annoying in the middle of lost but the writers made me love him again later in the series..it is the same with chuck and sarah, the looks she gives him, the chemistry is still there and it always will be, it is the writers and show runners not getting it right right now, but that can always change. In short have faith and be realistic and fair when posting something, things are not always what they seem!

ReplyDeletecan't wait to see sarah's explanation of "I've been to those types of parties and they don't look anything like this"
its sad to see morgan move out...but yea i guess he needs to 'grow up'. and what was casey looking at when that agent opened the doors??
ReplyDeleteFun episode! It had a very Season 2 feel to it. I liked the underlying theme of "growing up" that played throughout all of the subplots.
ReplyDeleteSo I guess Vivian is going to walk in her daddy's footsteps.
ReplyDeleteHi, Magnus!!=D Well, I think this was a really great episode, actually!! I guess it was some kind of set up for next episodes, right??
ReplyDeleteI loved the moments with Morgan and Chuck/ Morgan and Sarah!!!=D And Vivian... well, I don't trust her...=S
Btw, I watched the promo for next week's episode and I think that that is gonna be a really AWESOME and funny episode, I'm I right???=D
Thank you for your podcast. I hear it every week and I really enjoy it!!=D Great job!!!=D
The pacing felt weird to me. Some things just majorly dragged for me during this episode. The horse riding scenes in particular were boring. Plus I tuned out everytime the new girl or the random bad guys were on.
ReplyDeleteChuck/Morgan were cute but again it went on too long.
ReplyDeleteFun episode all around.
ReplyDeleteMan tonights episode was good.
ReplyDeleteGood episode here--more of a teaser foundation for the next arc, but it set up some great pieces. The thread of "growing up/moving on/finding your place in life" was pretty solid throughout all the storylines: Chuck/Sarah/Vivian, Casey/Bentley, Morgan/Chuck, and even Clara/Awesome/Ellie to some extent.
ReplyDeleteVivian's got some intriguing possibilities and I look forward to seeing her more.
Cor
I agree with Sue on bout the new girl. Vivian, she was just I don't know a yawn. I didn't really like her. Kind of reminded me how lame Shaw was. But other than that I liked the episode.
ReplyDeleteNow Casey getting a storyline, I loved it.
I think Vivian worked for me at least as a setup. Though, the NCS director was the better new character in the episode.
ReplyDeleteAs for the episode as a whole, even the best writers have a bad day.
"And finally Chuck/Sarah, I'm pretty sure they'll just be high fiving pretty soon, as to not get the cooties."
ReplyDeleteHeh.
Well your just *&$)(*@! nuts.
ReplyDeleteSarah playing with Star Wars Toys = 50 points.
Sarah picking up Chuck's bumbling and getting stuck = 25 points
Casey barging in on THAT SCENE = 25 points
Cool Volkoff heir storyline = 25 points
Casey Super Sniper = 25 points
I could go on and on and on.
Way better than Cat Squad. Loved the episode, one of the three best of the year and in some ways better than Push Mix and Seduction.
Zman
@Wyndzorz
ReplyDeleteI think Sue wasn't complaining about having not enough time but rather how it was done.
Tom
Yeah, Ms.Givens was certainly the better of the two and with about 1/3 the screen time. I'm sad to say I'm not looking foward to this Vivian storyline. Hopefully Timothy Dalton will spark it or this girl develops a personality.
ReplyDeleteZman, it is cute that you have an opinion... even if it is dumb.
ReplyDeleteRich, Sarah said she was kidding immediately following that comment--she does have a sense of humor sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI think Boris was a great 1 shot bad guy. He actually killed people...and looked awesome doing it. As for the other two newcomers, the setup was good. They seem to be a part of two different storylines, but I'm sure they'll converge at some point. Secret NCS mission meets the new Volkoff.
-Sleep Sheep
I won't say it was LeJudkins' best, Magnus, but compared to last week's so-so that definitely makes this one shine a bit more for me.
ReplyDeleteBentley seems to have more mystery than Vivian right now.
Cor
What knocked Sarah out? I couldn't tell if she hit her head or not.
ReplyDelete"I think Sue wasn't complaining about having not enough time but rather how it was done.
It was a Valentine's episode, and from what I read, a lot of people (including me) were complaining about the lack of passion lately, especially regarding their kisses and I think with just kissing each others cheeks today they hit a new low."
@Anonymous- It was especially jarring because of the kissing between the random baddies and then the married couple who just had a baby. I just think they shouldn't even address certain aspects of their life on screen if its going to be that lame.
" No flaming, baiting, trolling, expletives, or racism allowed in the comments section. AND NO MORE STUPID COMMENTS ABOUT SEASON 3! "
ReplyDeleteHow about adding NO MORE STUPID COMMENTS ABOUT THE LACK OF PASSION BETWEEN CHUCK AND SARAH OR THEIR KISSES .
- Frustrated
@Sue - I actually don't mind the types of kisses Chuck and Sarah have been sharing. Why? Because those are the types of kisses that longtime couples casually give each other as signs of affection. We already know Chuck and Sarah have an active sex life....with each other. No tonsil hockey needed at all to show that they love each other.
ReplyDeletePaul, I am glad I am not dating you.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a very fun episode. LeJudkins did a great job balancing the many plotlines. It left me intrigued for the rest of the season.
ReplyDelete@Paul- That is true but it shouldn't be 95% of the kisses they share. There are so many other ways to show simple affection. They don't have
ReplyDeleteto go to the same generic kiss everytime. Then the good ones would stand out.
Now I will officially drop the subject as I can tell some people are...frustrated with it.:)
They have had a few good long-term-affectionate-kisses. Those work very well. The little lip-pecking? In the real world, I would feel sorry for that couple.
ReplyDeleteWow, the reviews to this episode seem to be extremely mixed.
ReplyDeleteAB
I was "really negative" about this episode? I haven't even defined my problems with the episode yet.
ReplyDeleteI didn't mean to say that you absolutely hated the episode, but based on what you said above, it sounds like you overall didn't like the episode.
ReplyDeleteAB
I loved it. I stand by my opinion you C-word! I mean that in the most British of ways too.
ReplyDeleteZman
I'm intrigued by this Bentley character. She seems to know a lot about Team Bartowsk. I'm thinking maybe Casey isn't the only one she has plans for.
ReplyDeletemagnus i agree with you about most things but i actually felt that this episode may have been one of the best this season. can you tell us anything about caseys new mission in zone 6?
ReplyDeleteI loved this episode.
ReplyDeleteChuck is acting like a grown man and a capable and competent spy during this mission, and I really enjoyed that. Morgan is getting the idea that he needs to grow up and move out of the house, which is sad, but also very mature at the same time.
I kinda feel bad for Chuck and Sarah, the bad guys get more action then the two of them!!! Lol,Other then that I really liked the episode good start to the new arc.
ReplyDeletehey magnus , gr8 site you have here :)
ReplyDeletehope you can answer me if sarah & chuck will still have "hot" or at least "warm" momments in the future ... :/
Interesting posts.
ReplyDeleteUnlike most people I am not looking forward to more Volkoff storylines.
ReplyDeleteAs a standalone episode it was fairly weak but I'm assuming the things at the end hopefully rise interest in the viewers and get them to continue to watch the rest of season.
I want to see some more passion with Sarah n' Chuck like most have said, if we have to wait til' the wedding to see something proper I'm going to be sad.
Love ya work on the site Magnus btw, good job!
ReplyDeleteA fine episode. Over the whole season not stellar but compared with last week's turd a masterpiece.
ReplyDeleteFinally back to something resembling a story, good one-on-one character scenes and consistent character behaviour.
ReplyDeleteI believe everyone knew from the beginning that the key was her necklace - they just tried to throw us off by making Vivian put it on Sarah as if it were just a piece of jewelry.
ReplyDeleteMF
Oh, and those were some of the worst action sequences on the show. Ever.
ReplyDeletea) Gymnast Chuck?
ReplyDeleteSome of you may love it, and that is cool, but it won't make my top 20 list anytime soon.
totally with you on that one magnus
ReplyDeleteis it bad of me to say that i kinda prefer the story lines where chuck and sarah are fighting or in the earlier seasons where the thought of them together bought out all this sort of tension.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Maddie
the CS passion is being teased the way the CS relationship used to be, so we see belly dancing, we see victoria secret wings, but we get no passion or consummation - a new age Wt/WT strategy - seems to have some pretty riled up - I think it is hilarious
ReplyDeleteAbout the kisses, if we count how many times magnus has said that there are hot kisses shot but he does not know if they will make the final edit.....well lets put it this way, it seems that either the editor or show runner is punishing the auidience there sounds to have been at least a few good kisses that would have been fine by the audience that has been left on the cutting room floor...
ReplyDeleteHere is a lesson, never bite the hand that feeds you crazy shippers! or the rest of the audience who are reasonable and constructive in their critism and praise suffer....To be fair if I were a show runner and I got abuse, I would do the same, lol!
Magnus,
ReplyDeleteWill you give us an exclusive teaser/spoiler on CVT A-TEAM?
These last two episodes ... just didn't measure up somehow. It seems to me that Vivian will be Alexi's mole now like Frost was to the CIA.
This should build up to a great season end cliff hanger.
TS
I am looking forward to the podcast. Definitely wasn´t one of my favorite episodes either.
ReplyDeleteThere was some funny stuff and I liked the setup of Vivian and whatever Casey is in for, but the V-Day setup was extremly silly and I didn´t like the lack of substantial Chuck and Sarah interaction and not just regarding hotness between them.
I enjoyed the episode very much, and am looking forward to seeing where this setup takes the story.
ReplyDeleteThey aren't punishing the viewers, since you shouldn't know that some of the kisses were shot hotter.
ReplyDeleteI think the Casey and Morgan feeling like a third wheel storyline would have played out better, if Chuck and Sarah would have been portrayed more as a unity in this episode.
ReplyDeleteCasey has been sidelined quite a bit in the past. So I think that worked better than the setup with Morgan. I can´t really think of that many scenes where Chuck and Sarah´s connection was shown to make Morgan feel excluded. Especially since he started dating Alex.
are we getting a season 5 yet?
ReplyDeletePlease dont get me started on Smallville and Clois. Season 10 sucks to me and to much stuff going on and their throwing way to much stuff in their cause it the last season. But this web blog is about Chuck. So hey let put Chuck in some real danger. Lets make him like almost die like die on a hospital bed.
ReplyDeleteprediction for ratings is 1.5 or 1.6. I think
ReplyDeleteI didn't dislike this one as much as I disliked Cat Squad, but it wasn't great either.
ReplyDeleteI just get this underlying feeling that the show is winding down toward ending very soon.
(My Twitter trends is set for "United States".)
The episode was ok for me.
ReplyDeleteI actually wanna see an episode where either Chuck or Sarah gets shot or fatally wounded. But I doubt that this will happen at all.
Mariene, fatally wounded? The two main characters? Hah.
ReplyDeleteHola Amigo -
ReplyDeleteWell - Liked the episode - but I get the feeling that this was another chop job from the creative team. [ write + re-write then edit + re-edit]
Meaning = It would be my suspicion that they had a really fun / romantic Valentine's episode all planned out...
Then added more to the NCS.... and the tone gets mixed up too much.
hmmm... seems kind of counter to their own mantra -
Journey vs Destination - in a way that they need to get too much "STUFF" packed because they are in a hurry to get somewhere... [sigh]
Still - I really liked the story and spy elements..
However, we are on the verge of a less is more situation here.
cheers
~ The Gringo Chuck Fan
Gringo, yeah.... I would call what you just said their wild supposition. I haven't heard anything to suggest that the episode was constructed any differently than any other episode. The only difference may be in how much time they have to write the script and have it ready for shooting.
ReplyDelete"Also somehow the Morgan/Chuck stuff seemed forced. I didn´t see Morgan playing the child to Chuck and Sarah in the past at all and Morgan and Chuck haven´t been living together that long and were just as good friends before that. Additionally Morgan kind of already had this particularly revelation when he decided to move in with Anna in season 2. And he did grow a lot since then."
ReplyDelete@Awelle- I agree, not to mention they didn't get that freakin' maudlin when Morgan moved to Hawaii.
ReplyDeleteI am kind of hoping that Vivian Volkoff is just doing what Alexei Volkoff did when he first came into the show acting all helpless around them and then POW she is evil and decides to go after chuck, sarah and Mama b for getting her father arrested. That would be awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteI would say I thought that the first 5 minutes was one of the best opens of the season, and possibly the series.
ReplyDeleteok maybe 'fatally wounded' is a little bit too much. But at least let them have some injury. It's always Casey that gets shot or thrown off a building. The only time, that I could remember, where Sarah got hurt is during season 2 where a car exploded. (can't remember what episode, Bryce was there)
ReplyDeleteI think it was a solid episode and it had potential to be better but some things were off. But I like very much Chuck and Morgan's scene with the star wars dolls. To sum up I think that Rafe Judkins & Lauren LeFranc are the best writers right now but they had a bad day just like you said.
ReplyDeleteThis was the first time that a Lejudkins episode didn't end with a Charah scene like other times and it ended with a cliffhanger.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, watching Casey blow everyone to bits was well, AWESOME.
I wanted to see the "love machine." ;)
Brittany
While it wasn't the strongest ep of the season, I did think that the opening segment was hilarious. The look on everyone's faces at each person's discovery was incredible. Even the look of horror on Alex's face when she realizes her dad just walked in on them was great.
ReplyDeleteAnd who knew John Casey was a shipper? He called them Charah at the bar.
Gambs
Much better than most of the pre-Push Mix episodes this season.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't (although, if you do break it down and analyse it a bit, it seems to be in theory) FEEL anywhere near as rushed as all the four or five episodes leading up to 13.
ReplyDeleteHey, I actually thought this episode was great.
ReplyDeleteI loved that episode but wanted to comment on something else.
ReplyDeleteOnce of Chuck editors posted a movie about post production process in latest episode...and you can see there that the scene between Morgan and Sarah was longer...they were playing Duck Hunt or something like that...pity it was cut :(.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJGk5E1-kdM
I was most disappointed that they cut the scene with them playing video games. It was the scene I was anticipating more than any other...
ReplyDeleteOH MAN!
ReplyDeleteJudging by Josh's tweet and the fact that we probably won't go back up, do you think season 5 is just a dream at this point.
ReplyDeleteI guess the Roar!! bang bang scene was funnier. I thought it was hillarious.
ReplyDeleteAlso not be a debbie downer but Josh's last tweet about finding the .2 in ratings has me worried.
ReplyDeleteHa and you also saw that Sarah was killing Morgan too! Thats really disappointing cause that could of delivered some comedy gold. And only the whole cut scenes make the DVD, not the cuts right?
ReplyDeleteJg
Why is morgan going to live in the buymore, he is manager of a buymore and a spy, both those paycheques combined should give him more than enough cash to live in chuck/awesomes/casey's apartment complex.....how is morgan broke all the sudden? I mean he does not lead a life beyond his means I do not think? and did he and chuck not split the cost of all the furniture, does he not get half? but it is a tv show..... so ce la vie!
ReplyDeleteI loved that episode. But I have something to say:
ReplyDelete1-I loved chuck and sarah's valentines day scene. But they are not friends Where is the big romantic kiss??
2-Chuck was so hot in his mask I loved it!!
3-I didn't trust vivian. I think she'll betray chuck.
After all she is her father's daughter!!
4-I would like to see Chuck's life in danger. shot or something else.I think vivian will do that!!
5- What is behind the zone6 door?? intersect3.0
6-What is behind the vollkof's door?? Other intersect!!! Vollkof has an own intersesect??
When in the editing video does it show the scene of them playing videogames? I watched it but couldn't find it... too... many... images....head hurts.
ReplyDeleteI have just subjected myself to pain for you buddy (mamemimomu) but like the characters in the show...we have to stick together...the answer is...drum role please....1.29! My head hurts!
ReplyDeleteHmmm I liked this episode, despite the lack of coupl-y stuff (agree w/ Magnus here - in real life I'd feel a little sorry for them - newly engaged couples are usually much more hands on, but I'll call it a PG-13 show and be done with it) - that said, people like couples. I mean, viewers like seeing couples being... well, couples. Maybe showing affection isn't strictly necessary, but it makes for good TV darn it!
ReplyDeleteLoved this episode on the whole.
ReplyDeleteRJLL, some of you seem to think we want tongue hotness in the kisses. I just want the type of kisses that people give each other a year into the relationship. They aren't little lip-pecks, unless the relationship sucks.
ReplyDeleteIt bugs me because every now and then, like in the 4.11 scene in front of the massive green screen castle, they had a perfectly subtle but believable kiss.
XD
ReplyDeleteI mean, it was 11 murder in the episode , just saying ..... LOL
Casey himself killed at least 8 man.
I counted. XD.
as Magnus said, i think in the Other Guy podcast, when someone said, it was good that they show the Blood, when Shaw died. and He was like :
" Well yeah it's a Family Show, you need to show the Blood ".
But they afraid to show some passion and hot kiss. ? :S . Intresting
If the show was PG-13, we could see naked people and hear a few curses. So, obviously it is NOT PG-13.
ReplyDeleteWhy was Sarah wearing that outfit for Valentines day? She routinely wears hotter/skimpier outfits than that.
ReplyDeleteMagnus,
ReplyDeleteMy friends just turned me onto parks and recreation the other day and basically I watched all 30 odd episodes in one weekend....lets just say I never knew that I would be such a fan of dead pan delivery comedy, but I am and I love the show....this is a preamble to me saying that I was joking about the "debauchery that certain neanderthal fans...." I was trying a dead pan delivery because I have been doing that this week because I found it hillarious in P & R.
They need to start doing something. Cause People this is it. With Chuck getting 1.7 in the demo now it a goner. They need to wrap it up.
ReplyDeleteOh and if you have seen parks and rec and you are a fan then I really advise you to go to youtube and watch their paley center interview in 2009 especially when aziz talks about his character....you will cry it is that awesome!
ReplyDeleteI remember one of your earliest podcasts just before season 3 aired and when you and jess were talking she said to you that she wished that chuck and sarah did not always attack each other when they kissed....LOL! oh how times have changed.....at the time I fully agreed with her, my reasoning being that I wanted something more intimate and meaningful instead of pure lust and passion...now I know I am an idiot....bring back the lust and passion Schwedak, please!
ReplyDelete@Amrit: Thank you so much!!!!! I'm gonna watch it again now!
ReplyDelete@Amrit: I just watched it! Thanks! It was soo quick, how did you even see it? I had to pause several times, but it was worth it... it did seem awesome. It is a shame they had to cut it...
ReplyDeleteI just wish they put it on the DVD.
Morgan and Sarah playing a first person shooter. Your welcome. :-)

Obviously I need to read some of these comments more thoroughly before approving them. You got me this week because I have been sick... but in the future, if you get all creepy, I am popping you in the spam box.
ReplyDeleteFurthermore and this happens to a lot of series not just chuck...every time a fan is not happy about the latter part of a series they lash out and complain.
ReplyDeleteIt all boils down to the writers and show runners, for me jack became a little annoying in the middle of lost but the writers made me love him again later in the series..it is the same with chuck and sarah, the looks she gives him, the chemistry is still there and it always will be, it is the writers and show runners not getting it right right now, but that can always change. In short have faith and be realistic and fair when posting something, things are not always what they seem!
