CHUCK 4.14: Seduction Impossible - Reactions

Shot from the greatest scene in TV history - Property of WB

Since the podcast won't be out until WEDNESDAY (due to a late recording schedule tomorrow) I am creating another reaction thread for this latest episode.  What did you think?  Tell the world.

EXPECT SPOILERS in the comments section, so do not read it if you haven't seen the episode yet.

Oh, and my birthday is on the 15th so what are you getting me?

Why wasn't sarah whering her engagement ring? Why wasn't on her finger?! No even in the last scene that they're lying in their room... She should be wering the ring... =/

  5. I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! next weeks looks awesome as well!

  6. Besides saying "GREAT EPISODE" I'm speechless.

  7. So.. my brain's still recovering. That was the hottest I've ever seen Sarah Walker. Well.. Top 3 hotness.

As far as her backstory goes, wow. Some actual mention of Sarah's family? Out in the open? Sweet.

  8. Oh how awesome was Sarah in the belly dancing outfit?!! What a great episode and I am all kinds of excited for next week. Love it when Korina comes back to pay Sarah a visit. Can't wait to see how there weding is going to turn out. Great episode tonight. Thank you to all that make CHUCK happen,we fans love u like crazy. Thank you ROCK ON CHUCK!!!

  9. That was freakin' hilarious. I think this was one of the funniest they've ever done. The use of "Wind of Change" killed me. And it just got funnier everytime it came on. So much love for this episode.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Why are folks obsessing about small things like the wedding ring? Everyone knows they are engaged. No real need to wear it all the time (particularly on missions).

    ReplyDelete
  11. That was just fun.

Roan and Beckman were so hilarious together. I loved how they expanded on that. Roan at the Buy More was golden.

And this episode was a really great one for Casey. I loved how they had him hiding in a wall again, how he seduced the guard in his own way with guns and explosives and how he saved Chuck and Sarah with one hand tied up. The ending with him seeing Kathleen happy and being good with that was very touching. People who were complaining about to little Casey should be pleased.

Ellie and her mother was also great. It was a nice way to show her soften to her family being in the spy business.

As for Chuck and Sarah, I was sure that Chuck would get his way one way or another, because he always does. I thought it was quite funny that everyone was sure Sarah would get what she wants because of that hot hot dancing scene and that people were saying she would always get what she wants.

Because Sarah only gets what she wants, if Chuck wants the same. Otherwise she gets to realize that she secretly wanted what Chuck wants all along. And that mostly works out for the best.

I can´t wait to see them explore Sarah´s family or friends she had before meeting Chuck more. That was a nice setup.

    Really fun lighthearted episode.

  12. The episode was AWESOME!!! I LOVE ROAN!!!! They played his theme song with him again!! Continuity points!!

I HATE the guy who Alex's Mom is dating!

    Darth Razorback rules the world!!

  13. @Paul - Agreed, but you know how shippers can be. Plus I think it's just a prop that'd be used only for important situations, ala Sarah's bracelet and all that.

  14. I forgot to mention Chuck calling himself the future Mr. Sarah Walker and him overpacking for missions. Fun touches. And there only was one intel flash and no Chuck-Fu again. I liked that.

Him sneezing was maybe a little much, but on the whole this episode felt very season 1 or 2ish concerning the mission.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I also forgot about your birthday, but there is still time to think of something.

Another awesome Chuck ep one day early comes to mind, though. ;)

  16. You can create as many topics with Bellydancer Sarah in the header as you want, Magnus. She's just... ohlord. Brain shutting down again.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I wonder how much of the podcast tomorrow gets dominated by talk of the belly dance... since there will be two girls on with us. Hmmmm. Should be interesting. Right now, I don't plan on talking about anything else. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Good plan, Magnus. I for one welcome our new Bellydancing Sarah Overlord.

  19. So much love for the episode. It was a great comedic episode that still springled in some heartfelt moments.

The ball and chain conversation was great. Also loved how the trio was praying for a mission.

Amazed that Chuck was able to resist as quickly as he did.

Oh goodness Beckman stole the show. That RPG was almost as big as her.

Glad to see Naevia (Lesley-Anne Brandt) from Spartacus on the show.

  20. Sorry not to say it in my earlier comment but Happy Birthday. This episode must feel like a present specifically for you. If only they had cut out the middle man and just sent you an hour of Sarah dancing.

    ReplyDelete
  21. It's almost too bad that they played the belly dance for fun/humour rather for seduction. I was thinking that Sarah could have worked her magic on Chuck after their "impasse" over the eloping issue... [Scene]: after the disagreement - Chuck sitting on the couch, moping, eating cheeseballs - when the lights dim - music starts - and then Sarah pulls out all the stops!
Ah well - better to watched her dancing and laughed - then never to have watched at all.

  22. @Anonymous who hates Kathleen's boyfriend

Don't forget how and why Alex Coburn left her. He decided that a job was more important than the woman he supposedly loved. He also didn't seem to care about how much pain she would experience thinking that he'd been killed. I'm sure the writers will get them back together, but I really hope they don't. If they're going to give Casey a love interest, they should just bring Ilsa back.

  23. Yeah I loved this episode and I know that they are trying to soften casey via his daughter, but for me that is enough and also casey has to always be the john wayne, the james bond....the man who lives his life by way of the gun, the destiny of casey has to be to go down in a hale of gunfire, serving his country! Let chuck and sarah be the lovey dovey ones!

  24. This episode made me think of the possibility of an epically hilarious bachelor(ette) parties episode down the line. DR...thoughts, comments, hints, a yes?

  25. I feel sorry for Casey getting excited to see is wife or ex which ever it's and then being told that he can't. I had a single tear drop go down my face when seeing that. Yes Sarah sexy dance god damn sexy. love the little talk chuck and morgan have in the episodes. I am guess if the next episode is the charles angels episode then that will be a damn awesome episode.

    ReplyDelete
  26. You know Magnus in a wierd sort of way the look of slight fear on sarah's face when chuck say's he wants to get to know her a little bit better... I find to be very romantic. It is like to this day she still does not want chuck to know exactly how as casey would put it unpredictable and souless she was as an enforcer and that because she loves chuck she wants to hide that from him.....

    ReplyDelete
  27. just watched the promo 3 hotties next week and Chuck with flash problems cannot wait!!!!

    BTW OMG Sarah!!!
I had the same face like Chuck when she did this ''dance thing'' ahhh Sarah...

  28. It was delightful from start to finish. I laughed constantly.

Chuck really looked fine in that suit. I wonder, however, if Chuck will ever really have to "seduce" Sarah the Roan Montgomery way. He either gets the "Shut up and kiss me" or he gets outdone by Sarah trying to seduce him.

I guess Sarah was right in the first episode from Season 2. Chuck doesn't have to be the seducer. Chuck just has to be himself, "tall, dark, and caring."

    ReplyDelete
  29. I loved getting to see more of General Beckman :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. I also loved how readily Casey was going to cut his own arm off. No hesitation, so Casey.

  31. I loled at the rocket launcher...

    ReplyDelete
  32. The whole episode was just getting back to the more lighthearted madcap "spyjinks" that made s2 so great. Sarah bellydancing was great, of course. If there's ever a callback to that, I'm in favor.

Glad to see some progress was made on closure on the Kathleen front; bit of a downer but realistic. Although I doubt that one's done yet since the actual issue of Casey being alive and involved in Alex's life and Kathleen not knowing is still an open book.

Beckman needs to rock the heavy weaponry more often.

All in all, the humor plus the numerous callbacks and progress on unresolved issues, made for a really great episode.

  33. I think it is great how we can now tell kristen newmans dialogue after 2 previous episodes. The over packing and chuck wanting a big wedding was classic Newman! The action and casey dialogue was so fedak, a very good blend that makes this episode fresh and well executed, loved it!

  34. Dear Darth Razorback.
Am i the only one who thought that General Beckman shooting the missile launcher was a little too much? i actually enjoyed the episode and was glad they dragged out the belly dancing scene with Sarah but thought the ending was a bit over the top.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Perhaps there should be a separate podcast dedicated to the bellydancing. Was sure the bellydancing would shortout the governor.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I was surprize to hear 'wind of change' I missed that
I'm waiting for full action and more zac episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Funnily enough, the plan was to do one podcast just about the belly dance and then another one about everything else... but when Mike couldn't do it tonight, I had to toss that idea out.

And I will be talking about the Beckman rocket launcher thing, since it was my least favorite moment... maybe of the season. Though, I can also argue for why it works.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I honestly didn't get the rocket launcher bit - but oh well. Loved the episode, it was fuzzy and warm and note perfect Chuck and would have been my 3rd favorite episode of the season and maybe cracked the top 20 of all Chucks, but then the "scene" put it over the top so that alone makes it one of the best episodes ever. + Zach was funnier in this one than he has been all season, maybe he was as inspired by the belly dance as the rest of us! Of course all of this means that the ratings will fall right through the floor tomorrow. :(

  39. Really fun episode. Now that they appear to be going into Sarah backstory, I'm hoping Gary Cole is coming back.

Sarah's bellydance still has me in awe. I thought it was going to be a 10 second deal, but smart editors for keeping it going (though I could've happily watched that scene continue for the rest of the show).

I agree with everyone on the rocket launcher scene. Considering how low budget Chuck is, they shouldn't try stuff like that. It comes off looking really bad.

  40. I would elop in a second!!!
    Heck with the wedding!!!

  41. I thought overall the episode was great. Lighthearted, fun and obviously sexy. As has been discussed, it was a great palate cleanser from the arc of the first 13. A few minor nit-picks though to an overall really enjoyable ep.

    1) I feel at times they overplay the "gender role reversal" thing. The Elope vs. big family wedding dispute made sense. The "Mr. Sarah Walker" line I felt was a bit much.

    2) I didn't like how quickly it went from being about chucks family to being about Sarah's (lack of). I get that she was deflecting (and that this now sets up a bit of backstory for her, as well as maybe brings Gary Cole back) but Chucks family WAS being overbearing etc and it seemed like suddenly that wasn't a problem anymore.

    3) I have trouble understanding how the issues with Sarah's family have never come up between the two of them before. How he doesn't know the story(ies) at this point. As far back as "honeymooners" Chuck is asking "who her favorite band/live show was..." attempting to truly get to know Sarah. How in the year and a half (or whatever amount of time has passed on the show) has "20 questions" never gone from "whats your favorite band" to "tell me about your family"?

Again, minor nit-picks to an overall really good episode. Preview for next week looks great as well so looking forward to that.

  42. I love how Sarah goes from the belly dancing outfit to a turtleneck...talk about proving a point!

    ReplyDelete
  43. One thing I noticed on the rewatch: The very next scene in Castle after the almost successful seduction, Sarah is wearing a red, long sleeve turtleneck (as opposed to the sleeveless, deep neckline blouses she normally wears). It's like she punishing Chuck by covering up every inch of her body. Very subtle, but hilarious if you catch it.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Somebody thought that Gen-Becks and the rocket launcher was too much.... perhaps - but it was hilarious. Its too bad that they didn't have a closing scene with Diane and Roan... Roan - once again strapped to the bed in his Marvin Gaye jammies - the lights dim - we hear the castanets and we see Diane come into the room wearing the belly dancer outfit... fade to black! Now that would have been EPIC!

  45. Preliminary ratings = 1.7.

I must say that even though this is low, I kinda expected worse. With Fox getting a post-Super Bowl boost, NBC providing only slight promo support and HIMYM back with a new episode, a 1.6 wouldn't have shocked me.

But, Chuck's position relative to the rest of NBC's schedule wasn't great last week. It was 12th among all NBC shows in Adults 18-49 and only 10th in Men 18-49, where it usually does much better.

    ReplyDelete
  46. it was a fun fun fun episode! i had so much fun that i didn't notice the hour's over...

zach was hot in his suit and yvonne is hot in her belly dancer costume. <3

it's really sad though that chuck's rating stays low :(

  50. Final overnights (with a little detail*)

It came in exactly as a 1.70 vs. a 1.75 last week. Men 18-49 rebounded very slightly to a 1.74 vs. a 1.67 last week. Chicks 18-49 went down vs. last week (1.66 vs. 1.83).

Not great, but I feel it coulda been worse, as I said above.

  51. dkd, sounds like we are going downhill. Oh well. Thanks for the EXCLUSIVE! :)

  52. Do you think if chuck was released in different day it could get high ratings??

    ReplyDelete
  53. Shrug. I am not a network programmer.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Magnus,

The thing that concerns me is that we went downhill at a time of year(Winter) when TV viewing levels are highest. I fear what will happen when Spring comes around and people are watching less TV.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Addendum:
Another thing I'm concerned about it that the show has shed younger viewers at a higher rate than older viewers. The median age this week was 50. It was 45 at the start of the season.

While the 18-49 rating is lower than the start of the season the People aged 50+ rating is higher. That doesn't help.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I talked to an NBC source and while he didn't illuminate the prospects of the show returning, he did say that CHUCK didn't come up in a recent discussion of shows they are likely to cancel. So, for now at least, NBC has bigger problems.

    ReplyDelete
  57. based on the last minute of the episode, i get the feeling that Sarah's family isnt what we should origionally think. are her relatives some sort of villains? what can you tell us about Chucks flash in the next episode?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Magnus does it help that chuck manages to seamlessly (most the time) plug so many products into their show? I mean advertisers must love that chuck being a young cast who are into the latest products that young people want to buy keep on promoting wet wipes, food, beverages, cars, computers, phones, etc. On NBC side the chuck people can do this and also use the money to make a better show then NBC actually pays for, that must be a benefit! Or am I being naive and all shows do the same thing but I do not notice it! Doh!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I am a sorta slightly a little bit of a casey and chuck shipper…..I have always loved their banter (nacho sampler laser pen scene and best friend before they go to the car show room scene, both come to my mind as great banter)…did anyone notice how casey grabbed chuck’s arm gently before the went into the tent….oh casey who hates touching maybe just easing up a little bit! All together now AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! how adorable!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Loved Morgan's reaction to the eloping idea:
"Is she trying, TO KILL ME!"

Also loved the awkward moment when Chuck threw in the "...Woman." Though for an insane second I swore I thought the series was going to end with Chuck's murder...

Turtleneck and Ponytail. So subtle. So brilliant. Though she lost her hair extensions.

What's up with the gender role- reversal thing? Wasn't the last monologue a Chuck comforts Sarah moment? A little?

Finally, does Morgan really yell close encounters at the beginning of the next promo? Love that man.

Oh and Mr. Awesome spoiler god Magnus/ Darth Razorback... Happy Birthday. :)

    Happy Birthday Magnus!

  62. The last scene with Sarah and Chuck for me was a downer, until I thought through the whole thing.
Sarah's dad is a con man living on the run, her mom's family ran a restaurant. What if her mom was still a waitress in the restaurant. Then here is Chuck, his dad was a great scientist, mom a super spy, sister doctor married to a doctor. What if Sarah is embarrased of her family and thinks Chuck will think less of her? Chuck did put her up on a pedistal, Mr. Sarah Walker??? Yes Sarah was super sexy in this whole episode, but Love makes everyone sexier.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'm wondering if Sarah has a whole extended family of con artists on her Dad's side that she's afraid to expose to the Bartowskis.

Down the line, we know Volkoff will probably be back to seek revenge on Team Bartowski. It would be a cool idea to interweave Sarah's con artist family in with the spy plot finale the way they did in DeLorean.

I could see Jack Burton trying to con Alexei Volkoff. That would be fun.

(Okay, I'm speculating too much on very little information. Gotta stop that.)

    ReplyDelete
  64. BJ I think that would be the better storyline than everyone speculating that Sarah comes from a rich, snobby family, or a family of jewel thieves or spies. It makes sense given the flashbacks we already have of her being awkward and bullied in school and living on the run with her con man father that her mother and sister et. may be real blue collar or even poor. She was the ugly duckling that became a swan and doesn't want Chuck to see what that her family isn't super smart, heroic, or successful like his. That would be so much cooler and test Chuck in a different way than we have seen yet. New territory is always more exciting than chewed over cud, and I have faith in these writers!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Also how can they have a wedding with all of sarah's friends (millitary/law enforcement) and family (fugitives and criminals) together. Also would'nt chuck flash like crazy if they were criminals......Maybe Sarah just wants to protect chuck from her family like she tried to protect him from her father, because chuck is hers and the giant blonde shemale does not like people messing with her man meat!

    ReplyDelete
  66. rich says...
OR she had a difficult childhood and thinking of either of her parents letting alone reconnecting with them makes her anxious?

    ReplyDelete
  67. I can only imagine how much of a headache Chuck would have if he flashed on every member of Sarah's family.

Maybe Sarah's mother abandoned her father, and Sarah chose to go with him instead.

    ReplyDelete
  68. After rewatching the episode I realised that the belly dancing scene is funnier than I first thought....it is when chuck enters the apartment that had me LMAO, first things first he is wearing sunglasses at night, he is wearing a trench coat in southern california when it is normally a hot place and he sprays aftershave into his mouth. Chuck maybe a charmer and sweet but he is still adorable and a doufas and I love him for that, he is just not a seducer like roan....his best qualities are his sweet innocence and he has his geeky charm that I love and I guess sarah loves! Never change chuck, NEVER EVER CHANGE....
